In rural Missouri, Crawford County has had more than its share of wildlife problems. Not even a year earlier the woods were home to a vicious killer brought back from extinction.
In "The Wolf's Moon", Mark Lansdowne and his pal, Warren Skruggs, sent them back...but at a cost. Now something is haunting the rivers in Crawford County.
The Missouri State Water Patrol must solve the deaths of several residents who died in "The River", but can they stop this menace before more people are killed?
Pat Jones was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. His special interests include the science of paleoanthropology and archaeology.
Woodworking is one of his favorite hobbies, with special emphasis on the unique grains and textures of various species of trees. He and his wife, Sandy, thrive on designing and creating a flower garden of perennials, second to none! Constantly evolving, the garden began as a way that he could surprise his wife on her birthday. The rest is history! The garden now spans one forth of an acre!
When their children graduated from school, the couple relocated to rural Missouri where they now reside with their four dogs. The love of the area, in combination with the uniqueness of the people, provided the impedance for "The Wolf's Moon".
The sequel is already in the works and proves to be yet another suspenseful page-turner! Pat believes that there is a story in everything. Everybody that he meets has their own special story; one simply has to take the time to listen. The story then writes itself.
I loved it ! Gives fishing a new meaning. I loved this authors first novel. So much I've read it twice. This novella is every bit as good. I usually find novellas lacking in content, just not enough length to tell the full story. Not this one, you get the whole story with all the excitement , plot and energy I want. All I can say is... next please!
This book is an ok read. I recommend this book to young adults. Not scary but interesting. I just didn't feel any excitement from this book and guessed right away the cause.
I love fast paced books with characters that draw me into the story to share the action alongside them and this latest one from Patrick Jones did not disappoint. However, I don't think I'll ever go fishing in The River in this part of the world... After reading his first book, The Wolf's Moon, I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to Beta Read this latest great story from Patrick Jones and have no hesitation in saying I LOVED IT.
I found this short book to be exciting and a fun read. I managed to read it in one sitting and then had difficulty getting to sleep. The story is tense and the plot well developed. The writing was so descriptive that it was almost as if I had experienced the adventure myself. Hense the difficulty with sleep. Patric Jones develops the plot and characters to the point where the reader is both drawn in and also a bit fearful of what is to happen. In The River, there is something big in the water and as the story unfolds it becomes clear that something just shouldn't be there. Patrick keeps us guessing and in the end we are satisfied that the thing is now gone. Or is it? Since reading the River, I have not felt the same about fishing and I'll tell you one thing I will never go fishing with Patric Jones ever. A great read and recommended for anyone who likes thrills and action.
I have yet to read Jones' first book, as The River's occasional references reminded me. And yet, I feel that I've lost nothing. Jones is a fine writer indeed, with a style eerily reminiscent of Stephen King's - and read this as the praise it's meant to be.
Flawless, flowing, and with a bunch of great characters, The River was a pleasure to read from start to end. Its perfect editing made it without a doubt one of the best novellas of its kind I've read so far.
The River is a gripping short story that kept this reader mesmerized and on the edge of my seat. I read each word and felt the fear of the characters as they searched for the cause of death to a man who had gone fishing in the river. This was only the beginning.
The author knows how to build up suspense and keep the reader in his grip as the story unfolds. I thoroughly enjoyed this scary tale.
