Well fuck this. Goodreads deleted my original long review. So I'll make it short because I'm annoyed: I didn't like this book at all. I only stopped myself from quitting it because of Ezra. Disliked all the new characters and felt not connection with them.
Rate: (low) 2 stars for Ezra.

I found this more enjoyable second time around, mostly because I knew what to expect and how many questions wouldn't be answered. Still can't fault the writing as I always find this author easy to read.

--Original review--

Lily and Ezra (from the first 3 books) are my favourite book characters of all time. Their banter (especially in book 2) was perfect. I loved everything about them. I'm a complete arse licking worshipper for those two.

And that is exactly why I put off reading this next lot of books with Caro's story for so long. In my mind she was never going to win my favour like they did. I was worried I'd actually hate her.
My concerns are still in place after reading this book. Its full of questions and no answers. All the mystery around her made it hard to connect with her for me. It was frustrating not to be let in to any of her secrets.

Also, there wasn't a great deal going on; aside from the new prodigies meeting and a lot of silly conversations. There was a loose base stuffed with loads of filler, and for the first book in a new trilogy, that's a let down.

Having said all that, it was still enjoyable (more so after the 50% mark). The banter was there, a bit of sexual chemistry, the lead up to something (but fuck knows what - I have no idea) and the questions surrounding what exactly Caro can do, were intriguing enough to reel me in and make me want more. Now I hope the next book reveals something, just anything at all would be good (especially a mate for her).

Chosen Thief is the fourth installment in Scarlett Dawn's new adult fantasy/romance series titled Forever Evermore. For those unfamiliar with the series, here's a heads up: The first three books make up the first saga and focus on four main characters: Jack, Pearl, Lily, and Ezra as they train and serve as leaders in this world. This fourth book: Chosen Thief begins the second saga, where the next four prodigies enter training/leadership roles. Although Jack, Pearl, Lily, and Ezra are still active characters, they are no longer the focus. The main characters will be brand spanking new to readers. Let me introduce you:
Caro: Elemental Prodigy
London: Mage Prodigy
Brann: Shifter Prodigy
Aria: Vampire Prodigy

OK, moving on...

I loved the first three books and when I found out the focal characters were new in the fourth book, I was somewhat hesitant. I adore Ms. Dawn's storytelling, so I knew it would be good but I honestly didn't think I would enjoy it quite as much. Well, I had nothing to worry about. I enjoyed it just as much and now I am in love. To say I am incredibly excited about this saga is an understatement! Chosen Thief is told in the perspective of Caro, a rare spirit elemental and Jack's prodigy...and boy does he have his hands full! Caro and her “brother”: Sin show that people can change. No matter where life has taken you in the past, fresh starts can be successful. I know it's a bit early to talk about success but I have a good feeling! Caro's character building is spot on and the world building continues beautifully. I'm so looking forward to learning more about all the characters, especially the new prodigies. Some of them were minimally touched on, but we've got a whole saga's worth of time to get to know them.

My only complaint (well not really a complaint, more like a confusion) revolves around

I can honestly say I loved this book, and in my opinion it's 5-star entertainment. Ms. Dawn knows how to draw her readers into any world she creates and I just eat it up every time. If you haven't tried out her writing yet, start with this series. But beware: If you read it, I guarantee you'll be hooked...just like me!

My favorite quote:
”It's always the hardasses who have the biggest hearts.”

The Forever Evermore series includes the following installments as of May 2015. The ratings are my personal opinion only.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, a continuation of the Forever Evermore series?! Hecks yeah! But then I read it.

Personally, I feel there really isn't a storyline or much of one to say the least. The formula for this book seemed to be along the lines

chaos + confusion + secrets + ("love interest?" x 4) and add the barest sprinkle of humor

**** Spoilers Below ****

I mean there really is no character development or even friendships made. Caro meets the the other prodigies and makes the stuck-up, stoic and self-important shifter prodigy laugh so hard he bends over (surprising the Rulers), gets the pacifist, shy, soft spoken mage prodigy to voice an opinion (both of which within an hour or less than meeting them) at the same time gets convinces the vampire prodigy who dresses like a hooker to change her entire outfit/clothing style for the next day with a few words.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of what Caro says and does is funny but its also ridiculous! I mean she comes in, reaks havoc and the Rulers (Jack - her king, Pearl, Ezra and Lily) just kinda let her. There is no mention of training her to link with the others and be able to push and know how to perform an awakening.

The whole book is about her just going crazy and finding someone new to be attracted to every time a new group comes to the house for an indefinite visit.

This whole story felt more like a fanfiction pwp.

Please don't hate me for this Scarlett Dawn if you read this put kinda feel you shoulda done similar to Veronica Roth did for her Divergent series and released a compilation of stories from the beginning of King Hall through to King Tomb from Ezra's POV.

True to Scarlett Dawn fashion, this book was amazing! Full review to come...

**FULL REVIEW**

“What was even more twisted; knowing what I knew now, I still wouldn’t change my actions. I never would. My choices were the abyss of despair, my heart wrenching and twisting, tearing in agony.”

Scarlett Dawn never disappoints me with her uncanny ability to suck me into this fantasy world.

Caro Jules is a fugitive. A caught fugitive. But what makes this even better…

She’s also the Elemental Prodigy…and a Spirit, which makes her unknown...and potentially dangerous.

Reading this book transported me right back into a Mystical world of Shifters, Vampires, Mages, and Elemental Phenomena like I’ve never experienced. When I started reading Chosen Thief, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to understand an entirely new cast of mystical creatures but Scarlett integrates them beautifully with our old favorites! And I guess by the timing of the book, they have grown quite a bit older…

Now, the Kings and Queens are to become elders, the war has mostly ceased and the new prodigies are causing all sorts of ruckus!

Caro is a strong-willed Spirit Elemental, who refuses to use her powers. Because of this, no one really knows how truly powerful she is…and that little air of mystery drives this story. Every page I turned, I hoped to find out just a little bit more about Caro, but alas, Scarlett has kept me guessing…even long after I’ve closed the book.

Here’s what I do know:

Turmoil is still very much in the forefront for the Mysticals.

The Prodigies are causing just as much trouble as their predecessors.

Isa is all grown up!

And lastly, history has a strange way of repeating itself.

I cannot wait to see what happens when everyone realizes the true potential of power encased within their little Spirit Prodigy. There are going to be some serious fireworks!

Once again I'm completely sucked in by this world. I hope this doesn't end badly for me though because if Sin isn't the winner here I'm going lose my mind. He's the only one for Caro.

First up, even though I'm not a homophobic person, GLBT-romance (main characters) isn't for me. That said, it wasn't the reason why I didn't like this book, or the heroine. She's just too annoying. When you've read about and loved characters from King series, reading this just feels what-the-fuckery taken to extremes. I just couldn't like Caro, and I flat out couldn't understand why after years of staying as rulers, the original four were not given the respect they deserved. Nor could I understand why Jack was that forgiving all the time; I really didn't remember him being this pliable, spineless, nor as a matter of fact, what they found funny in most cases, when Caro was only being her usual, incredibly stupid, utterly disrespectful self. Also, just what was the reason that made other prodigies trust this schmuck? I couldn't understand how and where they became friends. Mostly Caro really was insufferable. :/ And there were no tests or preparations for the Awakening, no mention of relations with Com world, no interactions with the subjects. Wtf?!! And the story is taking place in 2030s? Maybe show something of that world? You know what, never mind! I barely dragged myself through this book, and I give up Forever Evermore world altogether. Esp after that highly unsatisfactory end to the King trilogy.
Ps, just what is up with the heroes being all third-class d-bags in general? I liked Ezra at first, but then the romance totally ruined him, and then in Chosen, I don't even know who the hero/heroine is, but the most-likely candidates are all arrogant, brainless, *gorgeous-and-sexy-as-fuck-ka-combo* assholes who managed to piss me off with their high-handedness!
Pps, maybe it'd have helped if the characters were not all just sexy-and-strong-but-nothing-more(LITERALLY!), or if it had even a tiny shred of semblance of a story, or any clue as to where it's headed. But. It. Doesn't.

eARC review (3.5 stars)

To be honest, after reading this book I felt rather conflicted. I am certain it has a lot to do with how much I loved the first trilogy of the Forever Evermore series, specifically how much I enjoyed Lily and Eraza’s characters. Although Chosen Thief shared the same fantasy world, but how the story executed was not quite the same. Chosen Thief has focused solely on Caro, along with couple secondary characters whom may be possible love interests, Sin and Leric. Rest of the characters however, included all other prodigies which were more like the tertiary characters, I found they didn't weighted as much in the story plot.

Chosen Thief introduced a new elemental element, spirit, which supposedly a very rare ability, also a new supernatural division and their leader "the One". I don't know, I felt "the One" and his people's existent significantly contradicted the position of the Kings and Queens, unequivocally debilitated the current King of Elemental, Jack. Considered it was painfully obvious "the One" was far more powerful than Jack. Furthermore, "the One" actually puts fear in the Kings and Queens. In a way the new concept rather clashed with the previous concept of the Supernatural Leaders, and I couldn't help but wonder if that was the intended purpose. However, there are still far too many unknown at this point, we would have to wait and see how the new elements would impact, and change the dynamic of the series.

While I was reading I felt the story construction seem a little random, there were some scenes while they were entertaining to read, but at the same time I didn't think necessarily have any relations to the main story plot. I was a little confused on why Caro’s ability wasn't formally introduced, elaborated until the last part of the book. We kind of know how her power affected her, but other than how much she refused to used them, or acknowledged them, the "why" part still remain as a mystery.

Caro's love interest is still up to debate at this point, it seem Caro was attracted to every hot guys she encountered, and it would appear that every guys are in love or in lust with Caro.

Sometime Caro do reminded me of Lily, but compare to Lily she was a less likable character. I thought Caro can be a little bit too much at time, she was always very sure of her ability (although she rarely uses them), she was awfully arrogant, and often problematic with a has serious attitude with the authorities. Also her little stint with Jack did not put her in my favorite list.

I was curious about the tile Chosen Thief, which seem to be a riddle itself. Is Caro a Chosen, because she is the new prodigy of Elemental? Or does it have to with her elemental ability?

Overall, I thought the story plot was not a strong one, but I found myself curious and interested in learning more about the new element. As always I enjoyed the special bonding and sparkles between each of the characters, which the author does so well on. However as much as I enjoyed reading how Caro and Sin's characters interacted, I would’ve like to see little more of other characters as well. I really liked Brenna's character, but sadly there were very little of Brenna in the book. I also loved the returning of Vizoac! I just love those little guys. Chosen Thief also brought back old favorite characters of mine, included Lily and Erza, Jack and Pearl.

Since this book left with so many questions, I am really curious about Caro's ability, and am looking forward to learn more about it.

Happy Reading!!XO

This author just keeps on going, getting better, wittier and more creative! Scarlett Dawn’s Chosen Thief opens with a bang and keeps on going! Imagine, an inmate on death row in a mystical jail, just may be one of the next generation of prodigies in the supernatural world. Caro has never had a family, a home or been connected to anyone, life has been hard, solitary and she has no roots. A life of crime was all she knew, as an Elemental, able to shift through dimensions, the Kings and Queens have their eye on her and her life as a loner is about to end, even as she fights tooth and nail to resist. Caro has secrets, and she plans on keeping them, if only everyone would leave her alone! She does not follow rules well, seems to have problems with taking directions to heart and a team player? No.Way. She is a solo act, too bad no one believes her as they force her into their world, shove rules down her throat and actually expect her to obey them!

She once had a lover she left behind. Will her past come back to haunt her? What of the other Prodigies? Her best friend, Sin is by her side to protect her from herself, loyal to the end, not that she can figure out why. The new girl on the block, she raises the tension when other Prodigies are looking at her like she is the best thing since chocolate, but the races don’t mix, so how does she cool the tension between herself and some of the hottest eye-candy she has ever seen? What if the Kings and Queens aren’t as dense to life as they seem? Are they seeing themselves in this young rebel? Will Caro show her loyalty once again to all who doubted her as she becomes a whipping boy for the Elders?

I admit, Caro brings back memories of Queen Ruckler, before she was queen with a little more sass, prickliness and attitude. This new generation of Prodigies is going to have a hard time putting anything over on their Majesties. When a powerful spirit leader shows up, its game on as Caro comes into her powers full force!

Scarlett Dawn has me bowing at the altar of her quirky imagination and incredible writing talent! Fast, furious, funny, sometimes heart wrenching, Caro is tough on the outside, but soft in the middle. Her attitude could cause gray hairs, as she tries to buck the system. There isn’t a single character throughout that wasn’t a joy to know, and the Kings and Queens? Haven’t changed a bit! Rules may be broken or bent, but one thing is for sure, Scarlett Dawn is in fine form, once again, writing as only she can, so expect the unexpected and enjoy the ride!

I received an ARC edition from the author and Escape Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

I am not sure how I feel about this book ...

The writing as always was flawless ..that is Scarlett Dawna's gift ..but I had no love for the new charachters and A lot of things did not make sense to me at all

For one we see these spirit elementals for the first time and suddenly they are the most powerful the most vicious and the smartest ....so if they are all that why would they even agree to be under the ruling of the 4 ??? After all predators only respect those who are more powerful than they are..and to make matters worse the 4 rulers we loved are shown as quite frankly pussies and cowerds which pissed me off to no end ..it just seems that Caro is humering them and playing along and that is it ..which made the plot almost none existing and a tiny bit boring because it was all about her lust life ..wich reminds me ..why is she in lust of every cute guy there is..???? And since all mysticals are cute that means all of them and all of the women too..

I guess what I am trying to say is if you want a funny book with great writing this book is for you but if you are like me and fell in love with the charachters in the first trilogy then prepare yourself for a little heartbreak ..still I would read anything Scarlett dawn writes

P.S. what made us love king hall and the charachters there is they had morals and love and made us laugh and cry there was passion and loss ..friendship ( it took the 4 a lot of time and action to be true friends which did not happen here at all it was instantaneous kind of thing and did not convince me ) and complex charachters ..I missed all that in this book

In the span of a few weeks Scarlett Dawn has become one of my favorite authors. While searching for books that were similar to The Vampire Academy series I came across King Hall bought it and fell in LOVE. Scarlett's writing was everything I was looking for, action, adventure, humor with great family/friend dynamics and some romance to boot. I am now quickly devouring everything she has wrote and impatiently waiting for more. I recommend this to anyone that loves mature YA or new adult urban fantasy reads.

Chosen Thief is my favorite installment of the Forever Evermore series. Hands downs. Now, this does NOT mean you can skip ahead. DO NOT DO THAT. Important clues are dropped that you will miss if you do not read King Hall, King Cave, and King tomb. Caro is by far my most favorite character yet. She is a complete vulnerable mystery.

Her relationship with Sin is vaguely explained. Her power vaugley explained. Who she is going to be with  is mildly hinted at.

I will warn you I almost threw my kindle when the book ended. Why? You ask. Easy. I wasn’t ready I was unprepared for it to end. BUT don’t be alarmed, Scarlett knows what she is doing. There are SO many questions that will pound through your head you will think it might explode. But with my experience (especially with this series) we will be rewarded. So bring on the next installment.

And you, person who isn’t sure if they should read this book, get unsure. One-click this sucker and grab some vodka. You’re gonna need it.

Oh...my...God!!! She has done it AGAIN!! I didn't want to put down this rediculously wonderful book!! I have been a fan since King Hall and not once have I been disappointed by what Ms. Dawn has written. I loved this introduction to the new prodigies and their characters. Can in just admit to being in love with Sin!! Oh my, so freaking much lol. God and Leric...whew...fanning my face from his hotness lol. I am curious as to where all these feelings she has for all these people are going to go...but I know where I want to see it go personally. I am thrilled to read the next installment and am so impatient right now waiting for it lol. Obviously I am rating it in at FIVE HEARTS and that is well deserved!

I will bravely say this, expecting some backlash, but Chosen Thief surpassed King Hall in my view. However, it should be noted that reading the first three novels enriched my experience with Chosen Thief. Epic. It was full of Epic-ness. Caro's middle name should be Badass or Snark cause she definitely possessed these attributes. All the characters--new and old-- created a world that I did not want to step out of. My only problem was it was too short, I wanted more! I cant wait for the continuation of this series and the characters.

The main character Caro is a completely unlikeable. While I'm no fan of the first book in this series I liked Lily as a protag more than Caro. Caro is totally insufferable, rude and a general all round secretive dick. I dislike her immensely.

On top of that, this book has nothing in common to the first book, by which I mean there is zero training of the prodigies, zero relationships that bloom into friendships in a reasonable way and Caro is instantly attracted to any large man she meets. So it's sort of a possible love square in the making. There is no explanation for what spirits are or what they can do, nor the relationship between Sin and Caro. The current rulers are treated like shit by their prodigies, who themselves get little face time in the whole book and hardly interact with Caro but are all best buddies with each other and trust her unconditionally by the end of book 4. Further, and apparent pre requisite to being an attractive male in this book is largeness and weird physical looks that are hard to picture in the first place forget about finding them attractive, and personalities apart from being pushy are not required.

Just no.

Isn't Caro's picture from the cover badass?

The first few pages I was shocked about but I felt bad for Caro's lover since she had to left that person in order to save another someone from her life.

It skipped a time frame wherein Caro's in jail and sentenced to death. But thanks to help of her friend she managed to escape her faith, the only problem was that Queens and Kings were after her. To her dismay, she finds out that she's the next Elemental Queen (I seriously kind of felt bad for the previous prodigy.) As much as she doesn't like to be Queen, the current rulers made a deal with her which would benefit both of them.

I liked the current prodigies. They each have their own unique traits that just makes them click together.

Caro has too many lovers and if you count the past coming back to the present. Although I think know whom she's gonna end up with. I really kind of thought, probably the shifter prodigy but that's wishful thinking on my part. Caro is kind of a complex character. She's powerful enough at the same time kind of still a bit childish. I understand her decisions but it also hurts people along the way. I liked Sin as well, and I too have hard time understanding her actual relationship with him. It keeps you guessing. I loved the humorous parts that involves him. I'm more curious to find out if he'll have a mate and who it's going to be.

I can't believe those people are finally showing up. Learning also a bit of their power was shocking. I won't spoil that part.

We can't leave the current Kings and Queens. OMG, I was like fangirling about Jack. I loved him from the first trilogy but I loved him even more. I really like to spoil that part but I'll keep the mystery about his life.

I can't wait for the next book. The author always makes it more interesting when it's the end. I can't wait to know more about the secrets especially about Richard.

Okay, so it’s been a few weeks since I read Chosen Thief and I’m still just completely unsure of how to even write a review, let alone rate the book. With that being said, I’m going to keep this short…very short.

On the one hand – I absolutely adore the way that Scarlett Dawn writes and I love this world in which the Forever Evermore series is set in.

But.

On the other hand – I wasn’t in love with this book. It felt like an incomplete first novel in the new trilogy, and a bit rushed and it was missing just a bit…of something. I don’t even know, I’m all over the place with this one.

I like Caro and hopefully in the future books I will come to like her even more. But as of right now…I’m totally underwhelmed. Underwhelmed with this new set of characters, a little sad over the lack of more information about the old characters, and slightly confused and perplexed over the amount of love interests Caro has.

I’ve got no clue where this series will go, or who the front runner for Caro’s heart will be, I’ll definitely be tuning in for the follow up books, but this one just left a little…or a lot to be desired for me.

The only reason that Chosen Thief is getting three stars out of me, is because I love the writing style, and I loved being able to see the characters that I loved before. This isn’t my favorite Scarlett Dawn novel, probably my least favorite. If you’re a fan of the series then I definitely recommend it but if you’re new to this series, then go back to the beginning with King Hall.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

I originally gave this story 2 stars, but have decided to change it to 3. I had a little trouble getting into the story at the beginning. The first few chapters skip time so you can get an idea of the main characters life in parts. It made the story a little choppy.

I found the story improved more as it progressed. Unfortunately it was nothing like the first three books. To me nothing really happened in this book. In the first story, we saw how the main character had to deal with so many life challenges and the future kings and queens were tested with their powers. In this one we don't see any of that. All this story seemed to revolve around was the main character's attraction to almost everyone, and their attraction to her.

I use to love Scarlets quirky sense of humour. I have never laughed so much as I have with some of her stories. I didn't have that with this book. In fact the humour felt forced. An example

The story doesn't really end, but stops as most of the forever evermore books have done. I was a little disappointed when I had finished reading it because I didn't get the same thrill out of this book as I had out of the first three.

Second read, 2021: My advice is to force yourself to get through this book and the next one because you will love Chosen One, which is the third books in this series. After you read Chosen One, you can actually enjoy this one and the next book after it because suddenly so much makes sense. The re-reads are much better than the first read. I would give this a higher rating as a re-read but as a first read...yeah, I didn't like this book. Get through it though! You won't regret it once you read Chosen One.

I like that Caro isn't extremely privileged like all the other Kings and Queens. Honestly. Not everyone is uber-rich and I was wondering why all Mysticals are. Caro comes from a harder, rougher, tougher life and I like that because I can't wait to see that explored a bit... if it is.

First read, 2020: I loved the first three books so much it's hard to write this but the new characters are not interesting, they're just chaotic. The entire book was confusing for the most part and I wished we had been able to stay with Jack, Pearl, and Ezra and Lily and see the rest of their lives to be honest. I was kind of interested in getting to know Isa but she wasn't here much and her story with Caro was not very interesting imo.

Aw. I know the book isn't released yet, but.. I'm a little disappointed not with ms. Dawn per se. I dont know. I'm just disappointed because i found out that caro's love interest is Isa. Aw. I dont know. It's hard to explain really. It's just not my thing i guess. I was excited one minute because i realized march 8 is near and then i decided to go to ms. dawn's website and then my excitement level dropped down. *sigh*

it's not you it's me.

This is book 4 in the Forever Evermore Series. You don’t necessarily need to read book 1-3 to understand this book but it will help with background info and the are really good books.

Next Kings and Queens.

This story follows the next Kings and Queens of the Mysticals. It’s read from Caroline’s point of view and what a character she is. I fell in love with her within the first few pages. She’s hardcore, blunt, loyal and a Spirit Elemental. Which is a new race we weren’t introduced to in the first three books. Sin is my next favorite he’s too funny and the relationship between Sin and Caro has me really intrigued. I can not wait to see what comes of that. There are so many questions I have about the Spirit Elemental which I hope to find out in the next book. This is more on the side for mature readers.

Overall an action-packed story full of mystery and edge of your seat reading. I can not wait to dive into the rest of these books.

Great!

A continuation of the forever evermore series, this is book 4, though it’s the first book in a new trilogy with new faces (our old really, considering the publication date). While I enjoyed this and laughed quite a bit, I Didn’t love it as much as the first round. That said, in still diving into book 5, right now.

Pros:
- Reads well.
- Love Caro!
- Sin is bloody amazing.
- New faces.
- old faces.

Cons:
- What about awakenings?
- So confused about Sin, for now.
- Minor editing issues.

First, let me just tell you how awesome it felt to be in this world again. It happened the instant I cracked open the book, and seeing old friends from a different perspective was fascinating. My mind is now in scrambles. This book doesn’t even try to mindfuck you, but my mind is so stuck in that universe I can’t even begin to think of picking up another book. Since I can’t actually go a day without reading I think that means I’ll be re-reading it.

"It’s always the hardasses who have the biggest hearts."

Chosen Thief mainly takes place in 2035, so the kings and queens have ruled for two decades, and their prodigies are getting groomed to take over the throne. Caro’s life goes from running, hiding and stealing to a completely different lifestyle when she finds out she is the new prodigy elemental. Caro isn’t just any elemental, though. She’s a spirit elemental. And a very intriguing part of this book is figuring out what exactly that means (and Jack is just as intrigued as we are). What can she do? How does it work? How is she different? And who is this mysterious silver eyed Egyptian god? I may have gotten hung up on that last one longer than necessary and searched the other books before continuing the story. I’ll give you a hint: we haven’t met him before.

Another intriguing element is the dynamic between the characters. Other than Caro, we are introduced to three very interesting prodigies (I won’t spoil that for you because it was truly a hysterical introduction, and my eyes were kind of crossing by the end of it) and we get to see the four monarchs as experienced rulers. The most intriguing dynamic in the bunch, however, is Caro and Sin’s relationship. I loved it. Just wait and see, you will too. They’re truly a puzzle, and it just gets better and better the more we get to know them.

The first half or so of this book gave me a very similar feeling as King Cave gave me, but also King Hall – especially in regards to the amount romance. That’s not to say that Caro doesn’t have a love interest, though. She has several. But none of them ever really get too serious. There is one sex scene, but to me that happens a little too quickly after we are introduced to the character that I had a little trouble feeling their connection. However, I very much felt it after. But Sin is still very much like a wildcard in the middle of everything.

One thing that I think make rating this book a little difficult is the fact that it’s a part of a series, but it is like a continuation and new start at the same time. This story will continue (soon, I hope!!), evolve and pick up things that weren’t solved in this book (I have so many questions!). But if I am to judge this book as it stands now, I have one thing I need to pick on. I’ve left in under a tag since it contains mild spoilers.

And of course, let’s not forget about Sin. He complicates things even more. Now that complication is far from a negative thing! Sin was actually my favorite character in the book, and I honestly loved his connection with Caro over everything in this book. Even if it was confusing as hell.

One thing I missed from the previous books was the deep connection with the other prodigies. Caro had that connection with Sin (it was kind of like them against the rest of the world), but never really got extremely close to her fellow prodigies. I hope that’s something that will change in the books to come. We do have three books to go in her story after all!

There were so many great moments in this book – humorous, clever, thrilling, heartwarming, surprising… All together they made an addictive and sensational story. You can really feel that even though we’re in a different characters POV we’re still very much in the Forever Evermore world. We get more of the Vizoacs, more king- and queen grooming, more magic, more of everything that makes me love this world so much. Most of all, more of Scarlett Dawn’s epically consuming writing. I never put it down – not one single time until I was done with the very last page. It’s been months since I read an equally intense book. Chosen Thief is a great addition to the Forever Evermore series, and I’m extremely excited to continue the story! I hope we won’t have to wait too long.

I received an eARC of this book from the author on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Chosen Thief
by Scarlett Dawn marks the beginning of the second saga in the Forever Evermore series and follows the story of Caroline Jules. Finding herself on death row at the age of 22, Caro has accepted her fate but after an exciting escape orchestrated by her "brother" Sin, she finds out that her life is about to get a lot more complicated as she is chosen as the next Elemental ruler.

I have to come clean....I have NOT read the first part of the Forever Evermore series. I have King Hall sitting on my Kindle ready to be read, but when I received this one for review I decided to go ahead and read it. Well, while you don't necessarily HAVE to read the first part of the series to understand Caro and the others I felt lost through a majority of the story. The world is complex and because I wasn't already immersed into the world I was confused about terminology and what the heck was going on! Now that being said I did enjoy the book and I'm now planning to go back and read the first part of the series and come back to reread this one and see if it changes my review any. If it does expect an update ;)

Caro is a hard character to like, but she quickly won me over. She's ruthless, cunning and stealthy, all required traits for a criminal of her standing. On top of this she's loyal, loves with her whole being, and doesn't go back on her word, all traits of a good ruler which she most certainly will be. However she had me a bit confused. The girl clearly loves Sin, I'll get to him in a minute, yet her eyes wander more than I thought possible!

In just under 200 pages, Caro sets her eyes on not one but 5 different people. Really this bothered me. I'm a monogamous kind of girl, so I was pretty much arguing with Caro (in my head) for her to pick someone and stick with them! In the first chapter which is kind of a looking at the past chapter, Caro is with Isa and there's a lot of build up and flirting and attraction which makes you invested in the two of them. Then it just abruptly ends. Three years go by and there are new, multiple people in Caro's life.

Sin is perhaps my favorite character in the book. He's handsome, fully and unconditionally loves Caro. A+ in my book ;) The two of them have this odd connection, like best friends or brother/sister type love, and yet it still goes deeper than that. I'm curious to see just where their relationship will go in the coming books.

Overall I wasn't that impressed and I was left with more questions than answers. The book felt rushed and incomplete for a first in series book even though this is a continuation of the saga. I was confused and at times I checked to be sure I hadn't skipped pages as things and time jumped and left plot holes, which was disappointing because I <3 Scarlett Dawn's writing and the complex worlds she creates. I'm planning to go back and read the first part of the series and reread this one to see if my opinion changes and I hope it does. As for now though I leave it with three stars.

4.5 stars

***Added January 2016 - I have now read this book 4 times and I still love it!***

I love Scarlett Dawn's trademark blend of paranormal elements, romance, and a kick-ass main character. With the majority of New Adult novels being contemporary romances, Scarlett's books both stand out and fill a gap which fulfils the desires of readers such as myself who want a little more intrigue and action alongside the romance in their New Adult reads. Chosen Thief is just as good, if not better than previous books by the author.

Unlike King Hall which has a less than stellar opening chapter, Chosen Thief is fantastic from the get go. We get thrown right in with a prologue introducing us to Caro and setting the scene for the mysterious nature of the rest of the book. For people who loved the first book Lily and the rest make multiple appearances but at the same time you don't need to have read any of the first three books for this one to make sense.

Like with the first Forever Evermore trilogy, the characters are what makes this book as they all have such big personalities. There is a bit of a love triangle sneaking in but I don't want to go into too much detail there as it is best for you to see for yourself. It is good I promise! This book has so many elements that make it unique and so there isn't much to compare it to.

Caro is fantastic, she has a sharp wit and a snarky personality but the best part about her is how she stands up for those she considers family. Though she is very prickly at the start of the book, as you get to know her more the compassion simply shines through. Chosen Thief overflows with too many fantastic secondary characters to name them all individually - Scarlett Dawn understands the importance of giving even minor characters depth and development that will cause you to get emotionally invested in them.

Chosen Thief has fractionally less action and deep storyline than I would have liked as most of the book seems to be setting the scene and introducing the backstory and the characters so that the true action can kick in for book 2. There was still enough tension and plot to keep this book very interesting though and I know from the authors previous books that she does this formula very well so don't let that put you off!

There are still a lot of questions left unanswered at the end of this book (like what exactly did Caro do to end up in jail and what is so damn mysterious about the Spirits!) but I think there is supposed to be two sequels so we have plenty of time to get answers. It just makes me want the next book that much sooner!

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for review consideration, this has not effected my opinions or rating in any way*

I don't even know where to start with this review other than "Food Me Once, Shame on You. Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me". I was so desperate for more Lily/Ezra and Jack/Pearl that I set aside how bitter I felt with the way King Tomb ended and desperately hoped this book would fill that void!

This book was written very much like the last half of King Tomb...rushed, jumping from scene to scene, more questions than answers, lazy writing with plots resolving too easily...it's like King Hall/Cave were written by one person and King Tomb and this by another. I can't even tell what the plot was; it just seemed like a bunch of loosely connected scenes culminating on them deciding to go on vacation? HUH? None of the characters were fleshed out the way the 4 Rulers were in the first trilogy plus these new characters just aren't even likeable. I don't understand Caro at all...her decisions/feelings/motivation just seem random.

And perhaps my biggest gripe is this book is <300 pages...that's a novella, not a book!

If you loved King Hall/Cave and Lily/Ezra, just don't read this. It'll just frustrate you on so many levels.

***SPOILERS BELOW***
Ok here's where I rant about all the things that made no sense or I didn't like!

Caro and Sin...WTF?
Where did Bran go halfway through?
Why does Caro seem to hate Leric yet jumps into bed with him?
Who IS Leric and why does he seem to have so much power...isn't that what the 4 Rules are for?
What is going on with Caro and Merrick's weird attraction?
I don't understand Spirit powers at all and it seems like the whole "I can read all your secrets if I touch you" thing happened sometimes and not others?
Are the other prodigies just wallflowers or something? There didn't seem to be any cohesion amongst them and they all seem like doormats
Caro teleports them away and voila! They are ready to be rulers??
Why introduce Isa so randomly and seemingly w/out purpose?
If relations between different factions is illegal why in the world is EVERYONE attracted to someone of another faction?
The tiger getting whacked out on chocolate...ohhhhhhhkay.
