⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
STAND by J.C. Bryer

I really didn't like Wil very much to start. He's just not my favorite of the guys.
In this book, we learn how he's turned into the man he is.

We see how lonely the guys are. Why they were willing to share a woman/wife and each other.
I can't imagine living a life where soap was rare, drug addiction was prevalent, and death was gruesomely common.
It was hard on everyone. The men had detailed emotions - loneliness, sadness, longing.
They really needed each other.

"The hardest part about being a soldier is watching yer brothers suffer,"

If you haven't read this series, try them out.

This is the second book in the Keep Series and if J.C. Bryer is going to be known for something it is going to be the dedication to making sure the characters and their relationships are both complex and compelling.

With some of the same themes as book one Keep, Stand is not going to be for everyone so be sure to do your homework because it was hard at times. Wil was kind of difficult to bear at times but if you can have patience and trust in the author then you will come around to him in no time.

And then the details, my word. They were so real! Like women have monthly cycles and sometimes soap was hard to come by. All true for this time but something we don't see often especially in tv shows/movies but especially in the romance genre. Yes, someone not bathing for a couple of days might take away from the spicy times but come on it was real. Sometimes, you need real life even in a romance.

It took me some warming up to Michael Katz in the first book’s narration but by this one I had learned his styling and thought he only brought this book so much more heart.

I realize this review is a bit all over the place, but I went in blind, and this series deserves to be read with as little information as possible. Don't spoil it for yourself, just dive in and discover the wonderful world the author was created.

I can't believe I didn't rate and review this when I read it. It's unlike any book I've ever read before. You will love it! There's EVERYTHING you want in here. Manly men. Seggsy seggs. Multiple POVs. Heartwrenching drama. Sweet moments. It's got it all.

Wil is not one of my favorite characters but the in depth emotion, details, hardships you learn why and how he became who he is. The emotions they felt, the demons that chased them, the desperation they share for wanting just another to share and embrace its all here.

This author with every single word she writes she increasingly gets better. She is open to her emotions, right down into the monsters that lurk and the heat of the spice that will have you wanting the next book and wanting the next man into your heart.

Once again, the complexity of relationships.

Just like the first book (maybe even more), Stand showcased vulnerability, regrets, guilt, fears, and all the demons we carry inside from our past and how hard it is to slay them.
But it also showed how much a good, healthy, and loyal relationship can help us heal and love.
It's a journey, for sure. It doesn't happen overnight, but it doesn't need to be fast. It just needs to be constant and along with the right people.

Glad I continued this series, this book has more depth into the characters that I wanted from the first. Has some darker themes than the first as well but nothing too bad. Love reading how some of the guys ended up together and familiar names showing up in another person’s pov.

Check trigger warnings- nothing too bad but some heavier emotions and themes this book
