In the wake of his child's death, Anthony Williams is desperate to save his family from imminent collapse. His wife is distraught and lost in drugs. His eldest son is tangled in the clutches of youthful lust. His youngest boy is on the verge of doing something unspeakable out of a misguided belief it will cure his family's troubles.
When a strange religious cult infiltrates the family under the guise of salvation, Anthony must discover the truth behind this cult before his entire family is destroyed.
Yet his quest may make him an unwitting accomplice to things more horrible than he ever feared . . . As one character says, "We must be willing to do horrible things for the greater good."
Told in alternating points-of-view among the family, CALAMITY is a dread-filled journey into the darkest corners of the human psyche.
DiLeo is a high school English teacher in New York's Hudson Valley, and a horror/thriller novelist—he also has two coffins in his office. You know, for decoration . . . (Check out his photos to see a picture.)
Amazon reviewers are saying, “DiLeo’s horror skills are undeniable. He’s a master of suspense and understands the parameters and power of the monsters he’s created . . . [DiLeo’s] prose is first-rate and engaging . . . [It’s] like reading a horror movie . . . [With] deftly blend[ed] suspense, action . . . Dark, dramatic, and thoroughly chilling . . . [You’ll be] grabbed by the first page until the very last word . . . Disturbing and perturbing, and rampantly unsettling . . . [There will be] nightmares for a lot of us . . . DiLeo is definitely on the very dark and disturbing side of the scale.”
The author could not have picked a more perfect title for his book...'Calamity'. Although, 'Calamity' isn't your typical horror novel. It's more psychologically terrifying than most of the recent horror novels I've read. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly scary and at times downright brutal. The author's style reminded me a little of Stephen King and Joe Hill, with a dash of Clive Barker. He has the ability to paint a vivid picture of exquisite horror like Barker, but with King and Hill's abilities to weave seemingly unrelated threads together to form a cohesive narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat (and scares the heck outta you) in an exciting and maddening sort of way! I can’t wait for his new book!
