Lightkeeper #1

Into the Light: A Lightkeeper Novel, Volume 1

Rate this book
“When you come into your powers, you will attract the attention of every dark force in the world. They’ll flock to Salem in droves for the chance to harvest your powers.”

Welcome to my world…the world of witches, guardians, and Lightkeepers, and a dark evil that threatens to end the world as we know it.

In most ways, I – Willa Devries - am your normal teenager, living with my aunt in Salem, Massachusetts, and eagerly awaiting my big 2-0 birthday. I’m also a witch from a sacred race called the Lightkeepers, charged to carry out the time-honored duty of holding the light of the world against the darkness—against the Underworlders and their evil.

But that evil has become more powerful than anyone has ever seen, and suddenly the Lightkeepers are looking to me to hold it off. Me, who is not yet trained in her powers but who apparently possesses a rare level of magic that is about to bring every dark force in the world to my doorstep. How will I keep my aunt safe, much less the entire world?

The answer, I hope, is Braeden. He’s my Guardian, and damn, if I have to face unspeakable evil, he’s the guy I want by my side. Powerful, mysterious, sexy… He’s spent his life in training, preparing to protect me and help me fulfill my destiny. Only I get the feeling that even with all his skills, nothing could have prepared him for the extent of my new powers. Or for the effect I have on him.

Desire…I feel it for him too, but the fate of the world lies on my shoulders – no pressure, right? The steamy attraction we share has to take a backseat in order for him to teach me how to harness my magic. If we don’t get my crazy powers under control, the Underworld will blanket everyone and everything in a darkness that is as relentless as it is terrifying.

Failure isn’t an option; the world is depending on us. On me. I’ve got one chance to do this right, and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.

Happy Birthday to me.

Even though paranormal is not my first to go to I have to say this book keep my attention. I was drawn to the fact that she was a witch that was being trained to be a Light keeper. What could be better than that? Having a hot guardian to be there to watch over you. And boy does Willa have one in Braeden. I love the action and the characters in this book. Amy Manemann is a new to me author but I will definitely be checking out book #2.

4.5 Pleasantly Surprised Stars (We really need half-stars...just sayin')
Despite the loss and abandonment she has endured, nineteen year old witch-in-waiting, Willa Devries has somehow managed to lead a fairly normal existence. With her loving and trusted aunt by her side, Willa wades through adolescence (mostly unscathed) learning to blend in with the ordinary while she awaits for the extraordinary. With her twentiety birthday just a week away, Willa is counting down the days until she will finally come into her full Light Keeper powers. It is her hope that once she has, she truly understand who she is and what she is capable of. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with growing up, nothing is as simple as it seems....Enter Braeden, a powerful, mysterious and oh-so-shmexy Guardian that has spent the majority of his life preparing to protect Willa and the power she will possess. From the moment Braeden arrives in Salem, all of Willa's hopes for anything remotely resembling normal are scattered like dust on the wind. She finds herself drawn to this man with a fervor that makes no sense to her. As sparks fly between the Guardian and Lightkeeper, Willa's bond with her aunt is tested. Underworlders and darkness are slipping through the cracks, coven alliances are strained, and secrets long since buried are unearthed and thrown into the fire that has burned Willa's safe and comfortable life to the ground. Willa and Braeden forced to flee and find themselves players in a deadly game where the rules are made to be broken and victory comes with sacrifice. Miss Manemann does a great job bringing her characters to life within the pages of the story. The tension and attraction between Willa and Braeden is palpable and I found myself wanting to hug and slap both of them at times. The writing is clean (as is the language) and the story is both sweet and suspenseful. Into the Light was a much-welcomed reprieve from the usual guts and gore I typically find myself reading and I highly recommend it to those who look for a healthy dose of love and intrigue with their adventures. Into the Light was a refreshing and creative take on a coming of age witchcraft tale....Just added her library to my TBR. <3

Is it just me or have I read this exact same book before? No, wait - it was dozens of other books that had the same plot:
-Beautiful girl who feels like an outcast
-Super-mean girl who acts like a high school sophomore but is actually jealous of her
-Coming birthday will cause her to come into her magic (although no one told her about it)
-She is angry that her family didn't tell her
-Absolutely gorgeous man who looks like a GQ model enters her life and falls in love with her
-She is part of a prophecy that makes her responsible for saving the world and now is in danger

I couldn't even finish this after the first several chapters because I felt like I had read it before! If I had read this one before the many others with the same plot points, I would have probably liked it a lot more! Points for cute guy on cover!

I have read this author once before when it was a collaboration with another author in a different genre. Storyline is a key on what caught my attention but will say a tad bit disappointed in location it is set in. True to the story if they are to be protected would of thought more original out of ordinary place but just my opinion. The story it self will catch you up right away in it with Willa being the special one. It takes you along her path with hers also crossing with Braeden. He too has a special place in this. The chemistry too will draw them together with us right along with them. Of course this would not be complete without danger and the darkness that must be combated with which pulls us to the edge. With the elements in this one you will see it come together lost in this world for a hum dinger of a outcome.

"...no matter what trouble lay ahead of us, the light would prevail."

****4 SHINNING "LIGHT" STARS****
Fantasy Witches and Warlocks isn't usually a go to genera for me. Amy Manemann's Into the Light has me rethinking my outlook. This book had my full attention from cover to cover!! I'm anxious to see how this duo fares in the next installment, Through the Darkness!
As Lightkeeper and Guardian are matched; you feel the chemistry and bonding take shape as the two learn to depend on each other while uncovering secrets and the truth of the "Prophecy." Fearing the outcome of gaining her full powers, Willa relays on Braeden and his guidance. With the Underworlders sensing her "light," Willa must remain vigilant.

Magical, Paranormal, Romance and Drama is how I would describe this read.
This was a first time read by Amy Manneman with Into the Light and I loved it!
Paranormal reads are a definite favourite genre of mine and this book did not disappoint, it had me engrossed in the story between Willa who has only just discovered she was about to Come into her powers of being a Lightkeeper and with that responsibility came her guardian, sexy, gorgeous Braedon who has after many years of being a so called “player” fallen for Willa who is not only struggling to cope with the new world she has been thrown into but also naive in the world of Boyfriends, hookups and love.
I loved the way this book flowed and the curve balls that were thrown in when you didn’t expect them.

This was a really good book. It was intriguing and I read right through it. It was hard to put down when I had something to get done but so easy to get right back into. The characters are all fun and interesting. You get a bit of a romance blooming and some action going on as well.
My favorite quote would be "Where you find good, you will always find an element of evil. It's as the Goddess intended." "The Goddess intended for there to be evil in this world? She didn't think that one through very well" That sums this story up real well.
I can't wait to see what comes in the next book in this series. There is so many things that could happen to any one of these characters it will be interesting to see where Amy Manemann takes it.

I do not read a lot of paranormal books but I was highly impressed with this one.

Willa thought she was an average girl getting ready to turn 20. She had a quiet homelife and job that is until she images in the scarves at her aunts shop. That was the day that her whole life changed forever. She found out that she was a Lightkeeper, she had a guardian to protect and teach her, then found out the truth about her parents, add in the Light Council, and Lucian with all his confidence and good looks. And you have one amazing book!!

Such an amazing and detailed storyline. I cannot wait to read more.

Paranormal reads are kind of my forte. They have been my favorite for some time now and while, yes, this plot is similar to other books I have read in the past, I still found myself drawn to it in an attempt to finish. I needed to know what was next. And of course you don't get the full story of Willa and Braeden and the mysterious Lucian in this one book. It's a series. But it is a good story about a girl who is coming into her lightkeeper powers very soon. Her guardian shows up and it turns out he's this hot guy with a connection to Willa. Frankly, I tend to root for the bad boys so I am more than a little curious about Lucian. All in all, it was a good read!

I really enjoyed this book. Willa lives in Salem and knows her family are witches. She has a bigger destiny, she is the lightkeeper. The balance between light and dark. But the catch is she will not get her powers till her 20th Birthday. Weeks before her birthday, weird things start happening. At her aunts shop she has a vision. Thankfully her new guardian shows up. He has to get her to safely before her powers draw the attention of underworlds. Definitely excited to read book 2. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great witch/Paranormal book.

I received an ARC for an honest review

Willa was born a witch. On her 21sr birthday she comes into her powers and with that, the underworlders will be after her. With the protection from Braeden, and the council, she learns about her past and how to use her powers that are strong even before she has them fully.

I thought the story was really great. It reminds me of Charmed with the evils coming to ruin the future and light of witches. There is plenty of action, a little romance, and much to look forward to in the future books. I can’t wait to see what Willa does with her powers.

I loved this story.
Willa's 19 and will come into her magic on her 20ieth birthday. Prior to that, the gorgeous Braeden comes into her life, he'll be her "Guardian" and watch over her and encourage her in her use of magic. Instant attraction!
Willa's life is about to be turned upside down and things aren't always what they seem to be, so interesting times are ahead!

The two words that stood out to me when reading the description were witch and Guardian. I'm huge into paranormal and I figured this would be right up my creek. Being my first book by this author; I wasn't sure what I was going to get.

I really enjoyed it. It was on the sweeter sider, not what I was expecting but no less awesome. I loved the mystery that was in it too.

I loved the characters and the powers that they learn to use and how they work together to over come all the obstacles in their way. Team work is a huge thing when it comes to these kinds of plots and the author did amazing.

I really can't go into too much detail because this book should just be read and going in with know what you read in the description. You get a perfect sense on what to expect.

Overall, I enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next book in the series and more from this author. I enjoyed the writing and her imagination was fresh and she made an amazing world come to life from start to finish. If your looking for a good YAish type read with a paranormal plot then try this book. 4 stars #2OCCJD

If the title Into the Light brings to mind the most common of reported destinations for human souls, you're got entirely the wrong idea. Willa Devries is very much alive and since she literally carries the "light" inside her and everybody wants a piece of it, she's pretty likely to stay that way but in the week that's left before her 20th birthday and her ascension into her powers, she needs to learn how to use them.
As the week unfolds, she discovers that there a whole lot of other things she didn't know and finds herself at the centre of a battle between good and evil.
Into the Light is the first book in a series and, as is often the case, it's only a small portion of the whole story so don't look for the answers to epic questions like does the dark or the light win, who's fighting for which side or who gets the girl. Those are all answers for later volumes, but you will follow Willa as she takes on the mantle of her power on her 20th birthday. It's a well told story with plenty of action, humor and sexual tension that's still clean enough for a YA audience, and, if you're not one of those commitment shy people who wants the whole story in one go, I think you'll like it.

This is not my usual genre, but I absolutely loved this book! I got completely sucked in by the characters and the storyline and had trouble putting my Kindle down.
Willa Devries is 19 and a Lightkeeper. She lives with her aunt, a white witch, in Salem (as her mother died when she was young) and helps her run her shop called 'Twitches'.
Her 20th birthday is fast approaching and that is when Willa will come into her powers...she just doesn't realise what it all entails, as her aunt hasn't really revealed much to her.
After having a strange vision, a gorgeous man appears in the shop. His name is Braeden, and he is her Guardian.
I don't want to give away any spoilers, but there is plenty of action, some sweet romance, plus white witches, Underworlders, wizards and warlocks! FAB-U-LOUS!! A great read...I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

ok this book got me from the beginning bc I love to read paranormal books and I love witches! I really enjoyed the mystery and this book not being so dark. Seeing the characters learn how to use their powers and work together was great. I will say that you will not get all of your answers in this book. I look forward to seeing Willa grow even more in the upcoming books!
This book is not really what I was exspecting it to be. I am looking forward to reading the next book after this and I am very interested in more books from this author.

If paranormal is your thing, you may love this book as much as I did. Willa has her Guardian, Braeden to help her through the process of coming into her power. Minor details keep coming up that Willa feels were important to know up front. So her frustration level is high and she has no clue how to deal with coming into her power. There is budding love, suspense and intrigue in this story.
