Television may have glamorized the self storage industry but facility managers know it's like any other business - it has its up and downs. Finding cartons of drugs in a unit that was supposed to be empty is one of the downs for manager Marlena Montoya. From that low point it all goes downhill. The county task force puts an undercover cop on the payroll, one of the owners gets personal, another gets suspicious while John Kincaid, the local detective, stays for dinner. Four hot men on the scene clutter the grounds and the investigation. When two murdered men are tied to the facility, it will fall to Marlie to separate the good guys from the bad, because one of them is guilty. The suspense builds as she tries to figure it out before she, too, becomes another victim.
A fun read with several plot twists that keep you guessing. Great character development and old-fashioned romance that is not overtly graphic but definitely keeps your interest.
First book I've read by this author and it was pretty darn good. There was some repeating of what characters said and what not that was a bit annoying but not so I couldn't enjoy and finish the book. Good characters, good plot, good twists, good ending.
This was a fun read. I enjoyed the setting and characters. The plot had some twists and turns I didn't see coming. I enjoy reading Mary Mead's novels, each one is better than the last.
Terrific plot - okay I got one part but the other part of my guess wasn't even in the same galaxy. Way, way off base! Great characters that you'll either love or hate but you certainly won't be indifferent too. She has worked at the storage lockers for sometime, first with her husband and after he took off on her own. The first hint of trouble she had came a strange encounter at the beach and the second when she found packing tape in front of what should have been an empty locker. Drugs! Now she has an undercover cop around. However things go from bad to worse when the weekend manager is murdered, the local bad boy comes home and the drugs still keep moving through the units. Can the guilty party be found before more deaths occur including hers? Will she need her military training to survive?
And enjoyable read marred by unbelievable character
This book provided interesting insight into the day-to-day life of managing a storage unit facility. And the core plot centered around illicit drug trade utilizing storage units was also interesting.
A strong female lead is always appreciated, however I did not understand the numerous times she was pushed around, manhandled, and did not respond with any of the strength you would hope for.
The conclusion of the book was rushed and also relied on huge character background of the heroine which was never developed, foreshadowed, or explained in any manner.
All that said I would read future books in the same setting.
