A simple touch, and suddenly Paige is in the past - living someone else's life, seeing the world through another person's eyes, and feeling their deepest emotions. Paige used to think memories only existed in the mind. But now, she knows better. She can't explain how or why, but she experiences 'glimmers', special moments that have remained behind - clinging to a letter, a ring, even a worn-out pair of boots. Each time she returns from a glimmer, a small part of her has changed.
Paige thinks her new talent is a gift, until she is suddenly transported into her own sister's memory and catches a glimmer of her sister's secret life.
Take this humorous and romantic journey, as Paige learns about true love through the lives of three extraordinary women.
Glimmers resembles many literary Southern warmth from The Notebook; light-hearted drama and family dynamics of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood; timeless romance of Pride and Prejudice.
Barbara Brooke writes from the comfort of her home in sunny Florida. Although she's frequently distracted by her supportive husband, two adorable children, gorgeous greyhounds, scruffy mutt, and egg-dropping chickens, she's always eager to create new worlds and interesting characters for her next book.

Upon entering a goodreads giveaway for this novel, the author kindly got in touch to let me know Glimmers would be available for free on kindle for a short time. After downloading this book I thought I'd have a brief gander at it to get a feel for their style of storytelling. Well, a couple of pages soon turned into a couple of chapters and I was hooked! I didn't intend to begin a new book (I have another ebook and paperback on the go as it is) but I settled into this cosy book and had devoured it within a pair of evening reads.
"A simple touch and suddenly, Paige is in the past - living someone else's life, seeing the world through their eyes, and feeling their deepest emotions... Take this humorous and romantic journey, as Paige learns about true love through the lives of three extraordinary women."
Usually I enjoy a more linear narrative, or those with rotating points of view, but Brooke's stories within a story was written with so charming and intimate a tone that I enjoyed every part. At first I was a little dismayed at the abrupt change to Delilah's point of view, but I found myself enjoying this foray from beaten path. Not once did I rush ahead to return to the main storyline. Although I did not find all characters equally likeable or quite as humourous as described, their intriguing lives definitely piqued my interest.
The changes and personal development in Paige's life were cleverly written. As a result I found this to be a quite entertaining and thought provoking book. To quote Anaïs Nin, "we don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." What would you do if you could, pardon the pun, literally walk a mile in someone else's boots?
I got this book as part of a goodreads first reads giveaway and I am so glad I did. This book is about a woman named Paige who is married and is trying to help her little sister plan her wedding. Then one day she starts to get "glimmers" or memories of the past when she wears an item that had strong emotional attachment to the previous owner. She learns about a woman named Delilah when she wears her boots, her sister Hailey when she tries on her engagement ring, and her ancestor Emma when she wears her cameo earrings. Each glimmer also affects her life and makes her a better person bringing out aspects of her personality that she didn't know she had. She eventually learns from her mother that this is a talent that many women in her family have had. This is a very enjoyable read and I can't wait to read the sequel.
I got this as a free book on Amazon. Wasn't thinking to much about it till today when I wanted something upbeat to read. I started it and couldn't put my kindle down. My kids looked at me strange because I cooked dinner while reading. I just wanted to keep reading and know what was happening to Paige. Looking forward to reading Beyond Glimmers. Thank you Barbara for telling me about your great book.
GLIMMERS is the first novel in a new series by Barbara Brooke. Written in the fantasy genre, GLIMMERS follows Paige as she struggles with her new found ability to read memories from the items she touches.
Paige is married, the mother of 2 and living a normal life in the suburbs. Her weakness for consignment goods (ala 1980's ankle boots) will find her locked into the memory of a young woman experiencing her first love and loss, and the heartbreak of knowing she wasn't good enough. As the previous owner of the boots, Delilah's memories will take Paige through the summer of 1988, working at a resort lodge, where she meets William, the son of a DC politician and socialite mother. But by the time summer vacation is drawing to a close, Delilah knows that there will be no future with William and embarks on a heartbreaking series of events to ensure that William is no longer a part of her life.
Paige has no explanation for her sudden ability to experience the memories of someone else. And the most confusing side-effect, Paige is now able to cook like a gourmet chef!!!! Didn't Delilah have hopes and dreams of one day opening a French style restaurant? Not realizing why or how this has occurred, she tries to proceed as usual but the vivid memories continue to haunt. When she finally confesses to her husband Elliot, he is concerned that perhaps his wife is ill, but her determination to prove that Delilah exists will take both she and Elliot on a surfing safari through the internet-but with no luck.
Hailey is Paige's younger sister. About to marry Derek, Paige has agreed to help Hailey, including picking up her engagement ring from the jewelers. And yes, you guessed it, Paige is pulled in to her sister's memories, but what Paige finds is nothing that she could have imagined. And it will take Paige and her mother, Elliot, Hailey and someone from Hailey's memories to ensure that Hailey's 'happily ever after' will take place with the right man.
Her continued ventures into the past has Paige anxious and worried. Elliot has considered both emotional stress and a possible brain tumor, but Paige is determined to prove that she has come into some 'super powers' as she has now named her ability. And her mother's visit will bring everything into focus. With each travel back in time, her focus becomes clearer, her vision opens. And it is the memories attached to her great grandmother's cameo earrings that will push Paige to help Hailey make the most important decision of her life. And like the memories from the past, real life will come full circle and Paige will finally have the chance to meet the woman who experienced her first love in the summer of 1988.
GLIMMERS is a wonderful story, written in first person POV, without foul language, graphic sex and violence, or confusing plotlines. The premise is interesting, nothing original, but well worth the price of admission. I am looking forward to the second storyline-Beyond Glimmers-I have no problem recommending this book. see all of my reviews at: thereadingcafe.com
Glimmers, the first of a trilogy of novels by debut author Barbara Brooke, twists women's fiction with the element of time/memory travel.
Paige Mackenzie's life is calm and lovely but missing that bit of passion, of spark. Though she lives the suburban dream (doting husband, nice house, two wonderful kids) she occasional imagines stepping into someone else's shoes for just few hours.
When she finds a pair of 80's suede ankle boots on a thrift store treasure hunt, her life gains some of the spice she'd been craving. With just a touch, her vision goes high-def, the room spins, and she is transported from her kitchen to an avacado green flashback. She caught a “glimmer” of memory and now sees the world through the eyes of Delilah, a teenager from West Virginia. Though she feels like she is experiencing Delilah's brush with young love, first job, and burgeoning cooking talents over an entire summer, when the episode ends, she has been gone only minutes. Paige's experience leaves her exhilarated, unsettled, and with new culinary skills.
Back in her normal life, she resumes the position of her sister Hailey's wedding-planning lackey. Paige jumps at Hailey's beck and call — she stands in for her at her wedding gown fitting, she picks up her engagement ring from the jewelers. Unable to resist the allure of the sparkling diamond, she slips the ring onto her finger and slides into Hailey's life. Through her sister's eyes, she discovers how passionate love can be — with someone other than her fiancee.
Before Paige can condemn her sister's reckless behavior, she latches onto a glimmer of memory from a pair of cameo earrings. The family heirloom sends her back to the British Regency Era as Emma, a headstrong young woman who longs to follow her heart instead of the proper path of her times.
Paige wrestles with the reality of what her startling new power means and what she should do with the insights her glimmers have given her. Each glimmer helps her grow as a person and she works to untangle the threads that tie each person's memories to her life.
Glimmers is a fresh mash-up of women's fiction, romance, with flashes of fantasy. It's light summer read perfect for a day by the pool (or in my case, curled up on a rainy day) and tame enough for audiences from YA to grandmothers — no offensive language or explicit sex (though a few inferences are there). Paige is a relatable character, and I can imagine hanging out with her and discussing our days over a glass of wine.
Though the novel just skims the surface of the powers involved in living memories via touch, I hope to discover more about the unique trait passes down through Paige's family in later books. I look forward to seeing how Brooke develops the characters in the next installment, Beyond Glimmers, due later this year.
Glimmer ~ (verb) to shine brightly with a wavering light Glimmer ~ (noun) a faint or wavering light / a faint sign of a feeling or quality, especially a desirable one
Glimmers was published by Barbara Brooke in March 2012, as well as writing women's fiction she also writes fantasy novels for young adults under the pen name of HB Bolton. Paige is an average, everyday American Mum. She's happily married to Elliott, although theirs is now more of a comfortable relationship rather than a passionate one; she has two lovely kids and a very annoying sister, Hailey. Hailey has Paige wrapped around her little finger, one phone call and Paige comes running, even down to trying on Hailey's wedding dress for her. Hailey is due to be married to Derek in just a couple of months, yet it seems to be Paige who is doing all the running around. Until one day, Paige discovers that Hailey's life may not be quite what it seems. Paige has begun to 'see' things. She has tried on Hailey's engagement ring and has seen a memory that is Hailey's; she has worn some vintage boots and suddenly found herself in the world of Delilah - a teenager from the South, and when she tries on the antique earrings that her Mother gives to her she finds out some family history that she never knew before. It seems that the power to be able to see 'glimmers' is one that random females in her family have possessed and although they are not dangerous, in fact Paige has started to enjoy them, they can be a bit awkward at times.
Glimmers is a fun read, it's not going to win any literary awards, but it is a engaging and entertaining read. It is also a very original idea and Barbara Brooke had woven together Paige's real life with the characters from her 'glimmers' very well. I especially liked the story of Emma, set in England in the early 1800s - it was atmospheric and very well written.
The book Glimmers written by Barbara Brooke is a chick-lit that opened up a new world of fiction to my eyes. The paranormal episodes initially presented a challenge for me in the beginning, but once I got used to the changes, things settled right down for me in a good way. I really enjoyed how the author took her readers on an exploratory book adventure, by giving them something new and insightful yet without all the modern day violence and nonsense that others must use to write a good story. Brooke keeps her readers wanting to know more by ending one paranormal episode and sending the protagonist back to reality. She does this with sleek charm and situations that reflect the new time period in which her characters are being thrust from. I found this read to move very well and I was always interested in just what would happen next! Not only was the pace great but the characters were expressive and upbeat, not to mention at certain times lively. I really enjoyed the author's use of the time frame of the 80's and it surely had me remembering the good old days of my childhood. Brooke definitely gives her readers something to turn the pages for and does not leave them empty handed. I recommend this book to all readers that like a good down to earth yet clean book.
Sadly it has taken me so long to get to this book although I have been dying to read it. The verdict is that it was as good, if not better, than what I was hoping that it would be.
Basically the story is an interesting one where the are more than one story told to the reader. Ms. Barbara does a wonderful job in being able to the keep the stories apart and yet together enough for it to work. There seems to be a flawless flow that makes the reading very much easy.
And the characters are wonderful - they are full of personality, life and human flaws that make them very relatable. Since of such greatly developed characters there is a true emotional depth to the book that is refreshing while I can promise I was groaning, laughing and cheering but not all in the same order. Paige is truly a refreshing protagonist since even though she almost never gets it right she at least keeps on trying.
Definitely enjoyed this book and will be truly keeping it for my collection. Wonder what the other books in the series will be about while I loved the recipes that are included. Must try them soon....

I am so glad I participated in this blog tour! I mean I usually always enjoy the books Candace sends me anyway. Glimmers is a chick lit style book, with romance and paranormal elements. And it is CLEAN. Let me tell you, being in the book business and a blogger, I read a LOT of books and a clean one that is enjoyable and not on a kid level is hard to find. That in itself makes the book rare and valuable. I have two favorite things about this book. The first is the paranormal element. I love how the glimmers appear and Paige is transported to another woman’s (more than one throughout the book) memory. It was so cool. My second favorite thing was the character development of Paige. I don’t think i have read a book that showed as much character evolvement and growth as Paige’s character in Glimmers. I hope to read more from this author in the future!! My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
LOVED this book, Barbara Brooke takes us on unexpected journeys thru time when with just the touch of an object emotionally attached to the owner our lovely Paige gets a "Glimmer" into someone's life seeing thru their eyes, feeling their emotions. This all helps Paige improve her life and discover new talents, Her Husband Elliot is delightful, fun, loving and supportive, This book is lighthearted and just a feelgood story. I highly recommend this book if you want to smile :) I give it 5 sparkles... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007...
Three and a half stars: A sweet feel good romance with three stories in one.
Paige is a busy, hardworking mother. Balancing two children, a husband, home and added on top of all that she is helping plan her sister's upcoming wedding. Paige enjoys the few moments she has to herself, like her recent shopping spree to a consignment store. It is Paige's lucky day when she finds a pair of soft suede ankle boots. She snatches them up along with a great pair of jeans. Life is good. Later that day, Paige slips on the boots and prepares to do battle with dinner preparation when something strange happens.....suddenly she finds herself in the body of a teenage girl named Delilah and it is 1988. Paige learns she has a new ability to relive moments in the past of other people when she touches an item that was of importance to that person. But when she ends up in vision involving her sister, things get a little dicey. Will Paige's visions ruin her relationship with her sister, or will they teach her a thing or two about life and love? What I Liked: *Glimmers is a great feel good novel that leaves you with a smile on your face. I had a couple of rough reads this past week so this book was just what I needed to pull me out of a reading rut. It is sweet and simple and deals with falling in love and listening to your heart, even if that means making a difficult decision and going against what others feel is the best path for the future when it comes to love. *I liked that this book wrapped three stories in one. Paige begins to experience flashback vision after she handles an item. The first time she ends up in North Carolina in 1988 in a teenage girl's body named Delilah. Delilah is eighteen, just graduated and ready to take on life. She meets a handsome wealthy boy at the resort where she works. What follows is a whirlwind summer romance, that is forbidden because it is against the rules to date a guest as an employee. Despite the difficulties the relationship flourishes until Delilah meets William's overbearing mother. The second glimmer involves Paige's sister Hailey. Hailey is engaged to be married but Paige learns that she is hiding something. This secret not only could destroy their relationship but Hailey's love life as well. Finally, the third vision takes Paige back to 1818. She sees her ancestor Emily and watches her grapple with the decision to marry the person her parents expect her to despite the fact she isn't in love with him or follow her heart. In the end, Paige learns some valuable lessons about life and love. I liked how all three of this stories converged to form one great read. *I was pleased to find that this indie, self pubbed read not only was a good solid story but it was perfectly edited and I did not run across any errors or problems. So pick this up with confidence knowing you are getting a good book. And The Not So Much: *The one thing that bothered me about this book was that I adored the first story involving Delilah and William. I really enjoyed the flashback to the late eighties since I was a teenager during this time period, so I could easily relate, but just when the conflict strikes, the vision fades and leaves the story. I was anxious the rest of the book wondering when the plot would get back to Delilah, how she would fit into Paige's life and what happened with the romance. When the story finally returns to Delilah at the end, all the details are glossed over about how the conflict was resolved, I was dying to know everything and so I was disappointed that it was brushed over. *The whole "glimmer" time travel episodes are not explained until the end of the book so I was left scratching my head most of the read wondering how and why. It is best just to accept the adventure and not worry too much about the specifics because even when the explanation is provided for the glimmer events, it defies belief and you just need to use your imagination and enjoy the journey. *Since the book revolves around Paige having vision of other people's love life I found myself wanting to know more about her romantic past. Paige is married to a good solid man and they have two children, and of course, with kids and jobs and everything else some of the sparks have faded a bit, but they are still happy in their marriage. I wish that there was more insight on how Paige met and married her husband since it is a big theme of the book.
Glimmer was a nice feel good book that pulled me out of a reading rut. It features three romantic stories blended into one with a dash of paranormal magic. This is solid indie book that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to read more indie books. This is the first of a series and I look forward to seeing Paige's future glimmers. Favorite Quotations: "I hear my/Delilah's boots calling to me; their song comes from the floor in my closet. I cannot resist the whisper of their melody. I must answer." "Unfortunately, there isn't a rewind button to life." "Here's to following your heart, doing the what you love, and overflowing with success."

Why I joined this particular tour?
I was a goner when I saw the cover for this book; pearls, a handwritten letter and sepia tones. I knew this was one blog tour I had to sign up. And based on the cover, I was expecting a romantic, feel-good, easy read and that’s exactly what I got.
First Line of Glimmers by Barbara Brooke:
“A sprinkle of dust encircles my head, and a cough escapes my list.”
My Thoughts on Glimmers by Barbara Brooke: I really enjoyed this romantic book which had a lovely whimsical quality to it. The main character – Paige – discovers an ability to time-travel into other people's lives by touching an object that they have a strong connection to. This isn’t a sci-fi book and the details behind this are not explored, I just took it for what it was and went with it. The fanciful element to the book added an interesting dimension to the story and created a fun plot device to link all the characters together.
Paige travels into three people's lives and the story switches to their point of view when it happens. Sounds confusing but it’s not in the slightest. All three characters and Paige are very different and all are in different decades which creates a fun blend of situations and emotional ups and downs.
The contemporary setting and the 1980s setting both felt very authentic to me and I can speak with good authority on both as I have lived through them. However my favourite was the 1818 setting in England as that is a period I just love reading about. Times were so different and for women in particular they were so restricted by society rules in what they can and can’t do. So a light-hearted glimpse into Emma’s life felt really enjoyable to me.
As the story is changing perspective, the pace is lively and I was really curious about how all the different characters were connected to Paige and each other. Seeing it all come together felt like completing the final piece in a jigsaw puzzle ie – pleasing! There was one character I didn’t like (Paige’s sister), to be honest I’d like to smack her in the chops and tell her cop on a bit. But every book needs one character that you love to hate and she was balanced out by the others who were genuinely lovely.
If I were to compare this book to a movie, I would say it’s like a feel-good Hallmarkmovie. It might be a little cheesy but it’s good old-fashioned entertainment and leaves you with a smile on your face. Perfect for a rainy afternoon and for a little romantic escapism.
Who should read Glimmers by Barbara Brooke?
I’d recommend this to anyone who likes to read romantic, feel-good books with characters that engage you. Due to the format it can also read like 3 short stories, so if you like short stories, I’d also recommend this to you.
This tour was organized by CBB Book Promotions and I would like to thank them for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Others have gone into long synopsis of the book, so I will try to be brief. In Chapter One, Paige drops the kids off at school and enjoys time to herself to shop for a vintage outfit that she really loves. She goes home to try it on. The last thing she puts on are these leather boots that she fell in love with. One minute she is at the kitchen sink, and the next, she is sort of falling and seeing lights. Then, for several chapters, the story is about a young girl in the 1980's who fell in love over the summer when she was working and trying to create the perfect recipe to win a blue ribbon at the state fair. I don't know if it was mentioned that Paige was viewing all of this through memories or was actually in the other person's body with them at the time.
There are three stories within the main story. The third one was my favorite. But, the gist of the book is that Paige can try on a very meaningful item that belonged to someone else, and can see their memories. It reminds me of these psychics who ask to hold something meaningful to the deceased, then pick up the energy of the objects in order to do a reading on them.
The third memory is by far my absolute favorite! Paige's Mom brings to her her great-great-grandma's dresser drawers that came over from England and had been passed down over generations. There is a secret drawer that Paige searches for, and she finds cameo earrings. When she puts them on, she is watching and feeling her great-great-grandmother's memories sort of as they are happening. This story within a story is my favorite because it is Regency, similar to "Pride and Prejudice", only I believe that it is so much better!!!! Ms. Brooke could write that kind of book, and I would be thrilled to no end!
As in the other cases, she snaps out of it to find herself right where she was when she "traveled". Then something happens that is funnier than all get out at her sister's engagement party that could really cause the fur to fly. Of course Paige planned it and had it at her house. Her husband saves the day. Then her Mom goes into very silly antics...... and you just have to read the book to find out what happens next. The book seems to have a lot of plates in the air at one time, and is a bit confusing if you are not paying attention. However, all makes perfect sense in the end.... the book is fantastic! I love Ms. Brooke's writing style and imagination. There are two more books in the trilogy coming out, and I am sure to be in line to buy those. If you like to be kept guessing what is coming next, you will love this book! It is refreshing and a good entertaining read. You will like it. *I was given a copy of this book to read and give my honest review.
First of all, I label this as adult as that's what it technically is. But this is a book that would fit into the YA genre fairly well too. The main character is an adult and she is married and has children. But when she has Glimmers and looks into the past, basically just soaks into another persons life in the past, she ends up in a teenagers head. Twice. So when she ends up there it's like the other character is narrating. The voice becomes that other character because that's who Paige has become. Man, that sounds so confusing! I promise, it's not confusing at all though! But because of this nearly the first 20% (after the initial chapter) is narrated by a teenager in West Virginia in the 80's. This is the summer she works at a resort and falls in love for the first time. We get several months of her life before Paige ends up back in her body in her time and suddenly she has mad cooking skills acquired from her time with the other girl. Then she ends up in her sisters body (a memory because it's the week before) and see's a major secret. This opens up a big plot for this portion of the book in her own time. And then there's a Glimmer where she goes into an ancestors memory and when she fell in love the first time. So it felt like three stories in one and worked brilliant!
Paige herself might be a grown woman, but there's no cursing, no sex (fades out before anything happens) and she has a young voice. I definitely think that plenty of teens would enjoy this book and there's not really any inappropriate scenes. Some have complained that it's too fluffy. I don't get it, what's wrong with fluff? Unless you're looking for something incredibly deep you should be satisfied because there are issues presented in the book. It's not complete fluff by any means. Another complaint is that it reads like a YA. Well, I love YA so I would never complain about that. But I think it's a good idea to go in knowing that it reads that way. Paige may feel young, but it felt more like young at heart, not some teenager in a 30 year old's body or anything.
I most definitely recommend this book. It's an easy read that you can fly through in no time at all. There's no long boring parts and you'll find yourself wondering how things could go for each of the characters. But don't worry, there's no cliffhanger! And this is the first of a series. The next one comes out soon!
Paige touches an object and sort of becomes that object's owner...learning and sharing and reacting as that person...for awhile.
My thoughts after reading this book...
Hmmm...Paige has the "glimmers". If she slips on boots, a ring, an article of clothing...she sort of becomes the person that the object originally belonged to. She experiences their lives. In this book she buys a pair of vintage boots and becomes Delilah...17 year old madly in love with William...Delilah. After this experience she is Paige again...doing a favor for her sister. She tries on her sister's engagement ring...and discovers her sister's secret. Yikes! Then...her mother brings her a family heirloom and she becomes Emma...her mother's great grandmother...I think. She discovers Emma's dilemma. All of these " glimmers" involve romantic issues.
Paige always comes back to herself and her glimmers don't seem to take very long but they are always insightful and the characters are connected. And for some reason after living Delilah's life she becomes an amazingly good cook!
What I loved about this book...
I truly enjoyed the glimmer episodes...especially Delilah's...her story was teen aged angst...lots of cooking...and I was left not knowing her outcome until much later in the book! I also loved the recipes at the end of the book. I actually enjoyed the writer's writing style. She was fun and I loved that!
What I did not love...
Romance...true romance...is not a genre I usually choose. I think because of the fantasy aspect I truly did enjoy my time with this book. I am not sure book two is in my future but I liked this one.
Final thoughts...
I found this book to be a fun romantic ( but not overly weirdly romantic ) reading experience. I enjoyed Paige's episodes...in fact...I enjoyed Paige. She was a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister and a back in time traveler! So...if you love or need a fun romantic romp...this might be a great book to choose!
I love the whole idea of touching something, an antique pin at a flea market or a vintage dress, or an old watch, etc. and being able to *know* things about the previous owners. I don't think I'm alone in this fascination and it makes for a fantastic story line ... this is the mesmerizing premise behind Glimmers.
Glimmers is a four-in-one story. There is the story of the main character, Paige, a reasonably happily married middle-aged mom, who discovers her ability to *be in* (or transport to) a past moment of someone else's life after wearing something that belonged to that person. Each glimmer, as it is referred to in the book, Paige discovers something important about herself, gleaning wisdom from the past and even her kitchen skills improve (I know that last one might sound a little oddish, but it's integral to the story).
She "glimmers" into the life a lovelorn teen-aged girl, Delilah, who is in love with someone she can't be with. Paige also accidentally glimmers into her soon-to-be-married sisters life/recent memories and learns a huge secret Hailey is hiding. And when Paige's mom gives her a treasured family heirloom (cameo earrings that once belongs to her great-grandmother, Emma) Paige see's life through the eyes of Emma. What she discovers during this glimmer gives Paige the courage to stand up to and change her own life and those she loves.
The glimmered moments in the lives of these women are intricately woven together into a beautifully written story that worked on many levels. I loved the characters and appreciate the interesting way the author dealt with time travel in a fairly believable way.
I enjoyed Glimmers. It was a sweet story that packed a powerful punch in the warm fuzzy department and ended up being a really good, romantic read.
**I won this book in a GoodReads first-read giveaway. Thank you Goodreads and the author, Barbara Brooke (www.barbarabrookeglimmers.com) for the opportunity to read Glimmers.
I loved this book! It was written so well. When I first read what it was going to be about, I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with it. But, it was fantastic. I enjoyed “glimmering” with Paige.
In this book, Paige can find herself living another person’s life just by touching things or doing certain activities. Paige first begins to glimmer when she is in her kitchen. Paige is thrown into Delilah Jones’ life. Paige is taken on a romantic ride through Delilah’s love story with Will Berringer. Talk about awesome.
Delilah is an aspiring chef. She wants to open her own restaurants in the future, so she works for a local hotel to learn from some of the chefs there. After work one night, she goes to a local hang out and meets the one and only William. This is where the love story begins. However, It does not appear that it will last longer than summer because, of course, they are from “different” worlds.
Paige finds herself back in her own life and Thinks that she is going crazy. And, I mean, Who wouldn’t. But…..this story only gets better and better because her next glimmer is her sister’s story. Now, I don’t know about you but I have a brother and I think it could be cool to get a little “glimmer” into his life to a certain extent….some things I don’t want to know.
While Paige is looking into her sister’s life, She finds that her sister is not be completely honest with her. Hailey, the sister, is currently preparing to get married but there is another man in the picture. Juicy, right? But, I can’t tell you how that goes because you’re just going to have to read it. But here’s a little spoiler for you….At a restaurant opening, Paige gets to meet someone she never would have dreamed of. Okay, not much of a spoiler, but maybe you can guess.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I recommend that all you guys read it.
Review for Glimmers by Barbara Brooke *This is a Copy received from Goodreads First Reads for free, (won) Thank you! I received this book through a contest on Goodreads. I entered because it sounded like an interesting story, and it was something different from the paranormal books I normally read. I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I was excited when I learned that I won, I was excited when I got it in the mail, and now after reading it I’m even more excited to see what Barbara Brooke writes next. The concept of the story was unique in its own way, and I liked that there was no swearing, or violence, or anything of the sort in it. It was a very friendly and lighthearted story with some touches of romance. As for the characters, I really liked Paige, but as for her sister…0_0…that’s all I have to say about Hailey. Not only was she a total Monster-Bride, she was bossy, and pretty much took advantage of her sister. Basically, she did nothing towards her own wedding, and stressed Paige out with her issues. I did enjoy the little drawings at the start of each chapter. I also liked that Kylie Minogue was mentioned, since I am a Kylie fan. Also, I enjoyed finding out the history of Delilah and Emma. I think it put a fun twist on the story. Overall the book was really good, and I enjoyed reading it. I’m giving the book five stars. :) The take away that I got from the book was that doing the sensible thing that everyone wants you to do isn’t always the best thing for you in the end. If you’re looking for something different I definitely recommend checking out Glimmers.
What I liked: I loved the concept of this book, it was really interesting and a fun read for me. Paige is a wonderful character who I really enjoyed following throughout the book, and I enjoyed the glimmers she goes through, they were all really interesting to read about. There were plenty of heart-felt moments about the characters inside the glimmers we face, and I was surprised by the affect that the glimmers had upon Paige by the end of the book. I also really enjoyed the characters the glimmers center around, especially Emma, who was perhaps my favorite of the characters in this book. Plus reading about that age in England is something that always seems to catch my fancy with certain books!
What I didn’t like: I wanted more detail about the different girls lives that Paige experienced, especially in the first glimmer because that could have helped create a better emotional connection to Delilah. So, it ended up feeling a little bit rushed to me.
Overall Review:Glimmers is a beautiful story with some romance and paranormalish elements intertwined to create a wonderful story about a girl who comes more into herself after each glimmer and the way the book ties up at the end was both pleasant and something I really liked reading. I’m definitely going to think about getting this authors future books if given the chance!
Recommend?: Yes! It’s a fun read that I really enjoyed!
Once I had read the synopsis for this book I was very intrigued and I have to say this book did not disappoint.
Paige lives an ordinary family life, husband and children then one day something odd happens to her, she feels as if she is transported to somebody else's life, she thinks and feels everything that the other person does and is living their life. This experience has it's positives and negatives and when Paige is transported to her sister's life then things become a bit tricky. Paige's husband thinks Paige is mentally unstable and doesn't really believe that Paige is truly experiencing the 'glimmers'.
I do not want to spoil the story so I will not give anymore away. This book is a romantic fantasy, it has some funny parts, romantic parts and some touching parts. I loved the character of Paige and enjoyed travellng through this journey with her. This book was well written and easy to read. The story is the first In a series and I can not wait to read the next installments!
A strong 4 stars from me, if I had the option I would rate 4.5 stars.
What can I say I am a sucker for a good romance story and glimmers is definitely that. Paige is just your ordinary mother, wife, sister and daughter but she has a secret. She has Glimmers of the past from other people. She sees what they have kept as memories and gets to see them first hand. Every time she comes back from one of the Glimmers she keeps a piece of that person. She can't believe what is happening to her and sometimes she really enjoys having the glimmers. The glimmers can come from a letter, a ring, shoes, anything that holds traces of a person past.
Then she has a glimmer of her sisters secret life. A secret she has kept and Paige is surprised to see it but to be able to feel the emotions that her sister felt is a lot for Paige. Paige really gets to see a lot when she has her glimmers and she has even gone into a glimmer where she is in love for the first time and I have to say that the one glimmer was my favorite. What can I say I am a sucker for love and romance.
This is such a different read for me because it was wholesome, clean with no sex scenes and no cursing. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more from Barbara.
While I liked Paige, I didn't love her voice all that much. In fact, my favorite parts of this story are those moments when Paige isn't the main character. When she is getting glimpses into other people's lives.
It was fun seeing where each new “glimmer” from an object Paige had touched would lead her next. Maybe I am reading way too much YA lately but I really enjoyed Delilah and William's love story, it was a sweet one but I must say, my favorite by far was Emma's story. I think the elegance of the era and speech drew me in and I felt like I was swept away to another time and place.
I love that the glimmers caused a change in Paige's (and Elliott) life.
The illustrations at the beginning of each chapter were amazing. I really enjoyed each and every single one of them. I really like it when authors go that one step further in making their stories stand out.
I really enjoyed this read. It was something different from the norm and it really was a cute read.
I want to thank the author, Barbara Brooke, for choosing me as a winner of "Glimmers" during her recent book giveaway here at Goodreads.
I have been a long time fan of time travel stories. I especially enjoyed the way the author opened the story with the main character on a shopping spree. I really thought she was shopping until I discovered she was just reliving a recent one while driving her children to school.
The main character is young, married and has two small children. She has "glimmers" when she comes into contact with 3 different objects. She experiences a look into the lives of these 3 woman the objects belong or belonged to. Each of these experiences help this young woman in her own life. This was such an interesting way to write a time travel story.
This was such a good read and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys a good time travel story.
The first few chapters of Barbara Brooke's Glimmers were on the "iffy" side, for me. I was distracted by various and sundry syntax, tense and sentence structure issues. That having been said, once I start reading a book, I rarely set it aside - unfinished. Once read, I was exceedingly grateful that I'd forged ahead! Several chapters in, the glimmer of hope I'd hoped to see burst forth DID and, to my delight, I was pulled in! Glimmers is charming book, filled to overflowing with whimsy, wit and "wonderment"! The POV shifts were smooth - leading the reader down several entertaining paths! I highly recommend Glimmers to those who enjoy a light read filled with whimsy, humor and a unique perspective; it was difficult to pull myself away for such mundane tasks as household chores and sleeping! Note: I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
I received a copy of this book free via a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
First, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
In this book, we follow Paige as she "glimmers" into other peoples lives through an emotional thread left behind in a pair of boots, earrings and even her sisters engagement ring. From the 1980s to the early 19th century, these glimmers help her to understand what is going on in her life. The glimmers that Paige has really draws you into the story and you almost don't want the glimmers to end. The end was kinda expected, but I'm also the type of person to try to figure out the ending. I would highly recommend this book. It started as a quick summer read that has turned into me wanting the sequel in my hands right now!
I really enjoyed this, both the idea and the story itself. It's about a girl who can suddenly see into the lives of people who've previously owned an item she picks up. Not all the time but it just happens when she least expects it. It then goes into the lives of these other women in detail and it's really interesting. An American girl in the 80's, an English girl in the 1800's are just two so it's a nice and varied read too and you get to know those characters. I really liked the ending and hope there will be further Glimmers stories as they're fascinating. Oh, I couldn't find the author's letter B she draws on all her chapter illustrations on Chapter 14 so if you're reading this do tell where it is. I thought up the top but wasn't sure !!
I started reading this book with a lot of reservations but was very pleasantly surprised at how well I enjoyed the reading. The concept of being able to see other people's memories based upon touching something they have owned is interesting enough, but the main character actually experiencing the memories as if living them herself was wonderful. I expected the transition from memory to actual life to be choppy, but the author did a great job of making the story flow. I love the fact that Paige not only experiences the memories; she gains new talents from each person's memories.
I was lucky enough to receive Glimmers through a Good Read First Read giveaway. I found it to be a sweet summer read. The concept of glimmering is a great device Barbara Brooke uses to weave multiple stories into one cohesive plot. Though I am not usually a fan of Hollywood endings, I found I was hoping for exactly that as I reached the final chapters. I also appreciated that it was a captivating adult romance that I could share with my teenager and my mother without hesitation.
I enjoyed this book. I loved how all the different story lines come together in the end. It was fun watching the main character grow through seeing the lives of other women. It was especially fun as she acquired new skills and talents as she experienced those lives. I received this book from the author through Goodreads First Reads. Thank you.

This a delightful book. The characters are fun to read about. The book has four love stories in one as page Glimmers into other women's lives. It was a book which was hard to put down as you read of what these young women choose to do with their lives. It is light reading and is appropriate for teens and adults.
