With the greatest threat to galactic peace since the Big Bang locked away in a United Earth prison, Noah and his crew are headed back to the Reach for some much needed R & R.
Unfortunately a distress call from the three missing United Earth Deep Space (UEDS) exploration vessels cancels their plans. Noah and his friends head for Destinia, the Hoyon seed world they left behind early in their adventures. Celia Kilis, the new captain of the Kayan hunter, the Kon, has found the developing planet and wants her brother back immediately.
She’ll do whatever it takes to continue the mission she and her brother, Ryg, have shared since childhood—even if it means inviting the Seer armada back to finish their conquest of this galaxy and beyond.
Can Noah and his team stop an intergalactic nightmare before it starts? Will they heed 98X’s warning to steer clear of Talcordor? The smart money, and a couple of pineapple pizzas, is on the underdog. They’re full of Earth coffee and good intentions. What could possibly go wrong?
I have revised my opinion of the series. Maybe its because I'm getting familiar with the writing style and the characters. The books start off slow but definitely pick up the pace as the story progresses. I've already put a note on my calendar regarding Book 5.
This series is kind of hard to read, but once you get into the books, they do take off and are interesting. Noah Gantz is or was a Major in the United Earth Defense Forces, but he got lost in a new galaxy test flying Earth’s second FLT spacecraft. Fortunately, he was rescued by Kayan, a living, breathing space creature that also served as a starship. She had healed Noah since he had been quite injured in his flight and now they had a symbiotic relationship unlike any other. While some time has now passed, Noah has amassed an amazing crew of different alien species that are working together to solve a lot of problems in the Reach. The Reach is that part of the galaxy currently controlled by the Gavant.
While the Gavant seems to be the enemy to the living ship, Kayan, there are not others appearing in this Galaxy that may be a greater threat. The biggest problem for Noah and his crew is that the Kayan cannot and will not fight. Even if her life it threatened, she will flee if possible rather than destroy her attackers. That doesn’t mean that the occupants of her starship can’t fight. They do and are often called upon to defend the ship from one kind of an attack or another. Still, each one of the alien crew has problems they must periodically attend to while still trying to stay away from the Gavant military.
Wozim, a Tyton warrior, was now in competition for the leadership of his entire race. He did not exactly want that position, but he would rather have it than let it fall to those he considered of questionable character. So, he has to venture back to Tyson III and begin his trials to the thrown. Meanwhile, Hash, a Mavik, having given up everything to stay aboard the Kayan, now had news that his world was experiencing a terrible natural disaster. His family and all his holdings were in danger. He told Noah that he must get back to his home world Mavik Prime. So Noah and Kayan dropped off another one of their crew to take care of his business.
Noah also had something to take care of and that concerned the three United Earth Defense System (UEDS) ships that had came to the Reach and promptly found themselves attacked by the Gavant. They had gone to a primordial world of Distinia and had become trapped on the surface with their three starships captured by the Gavant. Noah was off to rescue them if he could. He did find them on the planet although some of the advanced party had got separated. For some odd reason, Colonel Patricks, commander of the UEDS fleet, was among those on the planets surface. Noah now had to figure out how to rescue all his fellow Earthmen and then get their ships back.
It just so happened that while the Gavant had been attacking the UEDS ships, they also came under attack by the Taliz. This was a new alien race that were subservient to the Seer. They appeared to have come from another galaxy, but their intent was to take over this galaxy, claim all its resources, destroy everything and everyone else, and then move on. They had a formidable force in the Reach and the Gavant was just now becoming aware of them, but the Gavant couldn’t actually believe that anyone could stand up to their might. Meanwhile, Kayan was getting hurt by all the fighting that was going on around her. She was also being attacked by a strange species almost like her called the Azok. It was a living ship but unlike Kayan, it had no compunction against using weapons to kill.
Kayan had to flee to another a place of safety. That place was a remote world mostly of water. She felt that she might be able to go below the waters surface and stay hidden until all the fighting was over. So, that’s what they did only they found something there entirely unexpected. Noah also found evidence that his home Solar System was also a target of the Taliz so he had to do something about that and quickly.
While I’m not all that crazy about this series, I’ll probably continue reading it since I’ve gone this far. Book 5, “Earth Rising”, might have more information on how Earth gets involve in all this fighting.
The Seer artifacts are currently worn by 3 different people. Noah seeks out X12 despite being warned by X96 not to trust him. X12 gives him information on how to give up the artifacts so that they can be worn by just one person. Meanwhile, the Taliz are attacking the Earth pioneers on Destinia, so Noah attempts to rescue them. A battle between the Taliz and the Gavant is also occurring in space above the planet. The Taliz are working for giant spheres containing a single organism that wants the Seer artifacts back or Noah, now that he has all 5, to work for them in repopulating and destroying 'dangerous' populations within the universe.... The Taliz and the Seer 'people' are an interesting new enemy and it will be interesting to see where the story goes as Pya is sighted as well as baby Azoks and a new Tyton world is founded on a planet with 3 Hoyons. There is action, adventure, suspense, second guessing, surprises, twists and massive space battles are witnessed in this entertaining novel that expands on the history of the universe.
The crew of Kayan are as varied as they are courageous & self-less. But War has come to the Gavant Reach from an ancient enemy unknown. Not everyone on Kayan will stay to fight this new enemy.
But Light & Life shine through in the oddest of ways & situations. I've truly enjoyed the interplay of the crew, the situations that arise, the battles, but loved the snark & the Anytime Breakfasts.
I greatly admire both authors ability to write well. And I'll be moving on not only to the rest of this epic series, but to their other books as well. Thank you both!
Moon and Chaney always come up with another, more difficult challenge for Noah and the crew, but somehow, Noah and Kayan meet every adversity. This time, they face the entity known as the Seer, who made the artifacts Noah and the crew found. The Seer want Noah to complete the task the artifacts were created to do, or they will destroy Noah, Kayan and everything that gets in their way! Even Noah can’t wisecrack his way to a solution this time! Or can he? Read for yourself!
Old & new problems beset Kayan and her team in this multi-plot story. Sometimes you wish they could get a break, but that just never happens. The UEDS trio of ships needs rescuing. Of course, they are trapped by old foes (Kon hunter ship) as well as new intergalactic powers even more fearsome than the Gavant. Suffice it to say there are few dull moments. Noah does feel the burden of the Seer artifacts, even though he uses them effectively to save the day. The Seer's become a bigger mystery ... and challenge.
Noah Gantz, friends and Allies are still fighting for survival. With the last living free starship being hunted, and most of the largest forces in the sector trying to capture or kill them, hope is diminishing. Can the alien Seer tech help? Not enough drama? Now the threat of the superior alien Taliz invasion is looming on the horizon. What could possibly go wrong?
Ok, I'm ex-military, VietNam and this Noah Gantz is like so many of us vet's out here. The wise cracks, the fun digs towards each other and the fighting until you are ready to pass out. Love this series great storyline and bringing the story back to Earth is something VERY FEW authors do. Ready for book 5 in October!
The nonhumans are fascinating, Noah is a loveable narrator, and the story is thrilling. There is graphic violence and a high body count, but Grum is finally getting credit for his awesomeness.
The world and the cultures continue to flesh out. And our crew continues to become closer and more of a team. So much has happened and yet more is waiting in the wings. Still enjoying the quick wit and reparte.
With Paragon's Fall, Homeworld Lost continues with unbridled excitement. Even when I'm not supposed to be reading I find myself thinking of ways to sneak and read.
Good read and fits the ongoing saga. Noah is going places you would not believe. He has gained the respect of both friends and foes. Can't wait for the next chapter.
Of development for the reach and the competing overloads. Will the group break up now that Spain is battlelord of the newest member of the Tyton empire!!
This series has been very interesting and enjoysble. There cast of characters have been very different and they have been very different and I enjoyed each ones story.
