One night. That's all it was supposed to be. Imagine my surprise when Mr. Sexy in a Suit breezed through the door on the first day of school.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet my new boss.
Not only does he instantly recognize me, but he accuses me of stealing something valuable from him the morning I walk-of-shamed out of his apartment. When bullying me into a confession doesn't work, he turns my life into a living nightmare—as if that will coax me into returning what I supposedly stole.
But this is my school, and the only thing I'll be returning is payback.
Game. On.
There's only one problem. I wanted him before I hated him, and even now, a part of me still wants him. Somehow, through all of our fighting, through the anger and the pranks, I think I'm falling in love with the enemy.
Kristen Granata is a bestselling romance author known for writing inspirational, emotional stories with realistic characters who struggle through the darkest parts of life and come out stronger on the other side.

Another great find on Tik Tok. I saw there was a prank war, and let me tell you, I love a good prank war. Classic. Reagen and Jaxson both gave as good as they get.
Hating The Boss is an lovely refreshing read, and I couldn’t stop laughing, you know the laughing where your stomach hurts and tears form from your eyes, that laugh. Reagan is sassy, takes no bull, and wears her heart on her sleeve heroine. I love her. I am still laughing at some of her pranks. Jaxson handsome conflicted, and funny as hell. Both are instantly attracted to each other.
Hating the Boss is an easy-to-read romcom, and at times you are just waiting to see who kills who first. We read Reagan's back story and some of Jaxsons. I felt we should have read more of Jackson's back story since his brother plays a big part; it seemed skimmed over. I probably would have given it five stars if it was more in-depth. I look forward to reading the author's future books and now have to search of Reagan's friends have books of their own,
So, overall, I had a moderate amount of fun while reading this. It has some of my favourite tropes like hate-to-love, ONS-turns-boss, boss-employee relationship. But it wasn't executed that well at times?
Also - I really, REALLY disliked Jaxon. I don't care how cute he was with babies (if that stuff is supposed to make my ovaries melt or sth, my ovaries didn't get the memo sorry not sorry), his inner monologue was gross AF, capital G.
It was mostly at the beginning, so it DID get better, the reason why I'm still rating this 3 stars, not 2.
But ffs, why do I still need to read "gems" like this in my romance:
"My ex-girlfriend shattered my heart and ran away with the pieces. I'd tried to fuck the memories away, did the whole different-girl-every-night thing. Nothing worked. If anything, random slutty women only reminded me of the she-devil more."
Am I supposed to feel bad for this guy??? I have nothing, absolutely nothing against heroes who sleep around, I don't even like the term 'manwhore' but he really says "poor me, all these slutty women I fucked aren't cutting it, I need QUALITY now" 🤮🤮🤮
@authors - do better
"Ever wonder what a man thinks about while kissing a woman? The way his dick will feel inside her mouth."
And they say romance is dead.
(P.S. Maybe I would skip over this line if it weren't for the previous slut-shaming and double standards, but Jaxon was already at the gross levels where he simply could NOT pull off this line)
"Men don't want to fuck a stick. They want something to grip on to. Something to squeeze. Something that bounces and jiggles. You might be embarrassed of your muffin top, but the truth is: A man doesn't notice what's between your tits and your pussy when you're naked and his dick is about to be inside you."
Thank you for this...invaluable insight.
Then there was also the family drama around Jaxon's grandmother's ring that Raegan supposedly stole from him. And to be honest that made me feel for her, but also it made me angry that she was even put in such an impossible position by Jaxon's male family members and quite frankly, this did not end up in a satisfactory way for me. Jaxon's father and brother really went all in on blaming Raegan for something she hadn't done just so they could come off squeaky clean in front of Jaxon and they had no qualms or second thoughts about this AT ALL. Jaxon's father only expressed remorse when caught. So like, the fact that it ended up with Raegan having to be all OK with them and Josh (Jaxon's brother) only got away with a slap to his face - eh.
You know what? I don't think I can actually give this 3 stars after all, 2.5 stars it is. But it's 100% due to personal tastes and stuff that makes it impossible for me to focus on romance, so yeah, do with it what you will :)
I took a chance and got burned. Hating the Boss is epitome of everything I hate in romance novels.
First, there's the classic white privileged male jerk masquerading as a "good guy."
-Jaxon can't seem to be in a room with Raegan without thinking with his dick. But because he didn't take advantage of her when she was drunk I'm supposed to fall at his feet and worship him for being such a great dude? No thanks. Also, I don't care if you "know she wants you." She said no in a thousand different ways. Just because the reader has insight into Raegan's thoughts and knows Jaxon is right doesn't excuse the "I'm going to convince her we're meant to be together" behavior. No means no. Back off. Period. - Jaxon can't control his temper and tries to/does physically attack his brother at least 3 times.
Also: - The prank war was stupid at best, immature and unprofessional at worst. - A hint of fat shaming - the whole relationship was a disaster and fraught with so many red flags it wasn't even fun to read.

Romance authors,
I love romance novels. I really do. Bit please stop telling women this is as good as it gets. Please stop selling us these a**holes dressed up in charm and rippling muscles. We deserve more than the Jaxon Waters of the world.
Warning: If you read this novel, your sides will hurt. Your face will hurt. You might spew liquids through your nose and mouth. Your pets will give you 'that' look, and anyone around you may try to have you committed to the nearest hospital.
Funniest novel I've read in a long time! Witty, multi-talented author who really shines in this book. Highly recommend!
Recently divorced kindergarten teacher, Reagan decides to throw caution to the wind and go home with a hot guy named Jaxson she meets at a bar. Like Cinderella, Reagan flees in the morning and even leaves a high heel behind.
When school starts a month later, Reagan is shocked to discover that Jaxson is her new principal and from the get-go, it’s clear he has a vendetta against her. Jaxson accuses Reagan of something she didn’t do and that’s where their rivalry starts. From there on out, it’s war and a string of hilarious pranks ensue.
Jaxson and Reagan start out as a one night stand, turn into enemies but out of nowhere land in the territory of having real feelings for one another…
Hating the Boss by Kristen Granata is a laugh out loud romcom I couldn’t put down. I love a good enemies to lovers office romance and this really gave me everything I was looking for. No joke, I cried laughing while reading this and if you know me, you know this doesn’t happen often for me. Such an enjoyable, fun & light read. Highly recommend! 4.5/5 stars.
How can I take back the time that I spent reading this book? There are lists of why I didn't like the book: Short summary: Raegan (the h) just divorced and met Jaxon (the H) at the bar. They hit it off instantly. Jaxon took Raegan back to his home. She snuck out in the morning and Jaxon lost his precious grandma's ring. He assumed it was Raegan. They met later on at work and the prank war began. -The 2 main characters are 13-year-old stuck on adult physical form. But if they weren't there would be no book in the first place. -The storyline is so uneventful. -The characters have no consensus personality for example the dad. -The writing is pretty superficial. They wrote Jaxon's granddad and then k!lled him off near the end and Jaxon really took 1 small paragraph to get over the death. Then why bother puts him in in the first place. I'm so confused. It served no real purpose or life-changing lesson.
Safe to say I'm not gonna jump on reading every book I saw on Booktok!!
They misunderstand, they fight, they argue, they insult, this cycle just goes on and on and on till the end of the book and you may even lose some of your brain cells trying to understand this book!!
Once I heard that Kristen was working on a rom-com I was so intrigued and taken by surprise as her 4 previous books are complete opposites. But knowing her from Instagram I had no doubt she will deliver it perfectly as she is total nutcracker type of a person herself and I knew that this story will be full of funny banter and a great laugh.
I read “Hating the boss” in one sitting because I like Kristen’s style a lot and this book was no difference – it’s always easy to read, touching and emotional, beautiful and loving characters and enough suspense and action to get you glued to the pages.
Reagan bumps into Jaxon in the bar where she came to meet her friends to celebrate her divorce. Not the best occasion and of course feeling like a sh!t she kicks and screams trying to avoid the night out, but how can you do that to your friends and especially the ones that don’t take No as an answer. So there she is trying to have a good time with her girls when a group of man buys them a round of drinks. One shot after the other, one kiss after the other and the next morning she wakes up in a stranger’s bed.
Jaxon had eyes on Reagan the minute she walked in the bar where he and friends celebrate his promotion. Once group of celebrating girls accept the round of shot they offer, Jaxon puts dibs on Raegan and can’t stop admiring her beauty and personality. He didn’t feel that pull and attraction for so long and now he would do anything to get more than just a kiss, but wouldn’t make a move on Reagan so not to scare her. But what could be worse than a sad and drunk girl? Maybe just said sad and drunk girl disappearing next morning from his apartment together with something that belongs to him? Or the said sad drunk girl who disappeared from his apartment with something that belongs to him turning out to be his employee?
Find out yourself by reading this enemy to lovers story. It's swoony, it's funny, it's enjoyable and everything you need in a rom-com.
3.5 ⭐ This one was a funny!! I do wish the drama part was resolved differently but that's me.
Reagan just got out of a messy divorce and it was messy so she has a plan just have a one night stand. She meets Jaxon and they hit it off but things didn't go as planned and she booked it the next morning. A month or so later school is in and Rea meets the new principal who is Jaxon and he hates her accusing her of stealing something from him and he wants it back. Confused shes telling the truth which causes a massive prank war.
Dodge ball, explosive diarrhea, and many other pranks happen this causes Jaxon to question if she did take the ring since he's falling for her until he makes a stupid mistake that forces her to push him away again. They also bond over their grandparents.. Onto the ring and family drama.. I hated the dad and brother and I don't think Rea should have forgiven them for what they put her though. Atleast let them grovel more.. Jaxon got on his knees ;)
Low angst, No ow/om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character, drama, sexy times, no virgins
Recommend-yes/maybe Cover-⭐⭐⭐ Heat level-🌶🌶🌶
Slowburn Push away from both Mention of death Hea Epilogue
This felt like I was reading a sitcom and I absolutely loved it 😂 it was funny and delightful and really just normal. AND, the author did a perfect job at portraying enemies to lovers in a modern, realistic way (which is hard to do, and authors rarely get it right). Their prank war was hilarious.
Really strange combination of progressive feminist thought & misogyny, toxic masculinity, & internalized misogyny (slut shaming, fat phobia, weird Pick Me makeup comments) on display at the same time.
Love the girl group, HATE the miscommunication trope.
I think the pranks are supposed to be funny, but they just kind of seem like Jaxson abusing his power over Rae and it gives me the ick. Yes she retaliates, but her pranks are immature at worst. Jax is very physical with her (grabbing her, tripping her, taking screws out of her chair so she falls) & blatantly threatens her.
I do not like Jaxon. He is the worst kind of straight, privileged, douchey, bc he’s muscley & good looking, kind of asshole I cannot stand. Why is this the standard? Him being sweet to kids does not mean he’s not a complete douche canoe. Also his POV chapters just rubbed me the wrong way. I already know I dislike him too much to like him when the plot inevitably flips from enemies to lovers. Also, I read spoilers and it sounds like there is a ton of pointless drama involving miscommunication, Jax lying, & lying male family members. I don’t care of he grovels or is sometimes sweet, he is never on her side and always doubts her. PASS.
Loved it. Totally refreshing, laugh out loud funny & sweet. Being a teacher myself, I loved all the school references & big ups to fellow teachers in here. I too had a boy relieve himself on my classroom floor! What we do on a day to day basis, hey! Anyway, this was a light & easy read & I flew through it. I gotta admit my guess for the ring thief was totally off. I had guessed correctly at the beginning then changed my guess to involve someone else. I won’t put any spoilers in here though. A fantastic job Kristen. 5 stars.
3.75⭐️ saw one snippet of this book on tiktok and just immediately started to read it. and i enjoyed it ngl. buutttttttttttttt there was some moments that i just couldn’t help but roll my eyes at… first off who SAYS “jesus h. christ”… now my first language isn’t english but why go through the trouble saying the h??? idk why that stood out to me💀 and reagan pissed me off at the end🙂 she is too damn “perfect” like holy shit. she is blonde, petite, the most kindhearted person ever it makes her naïve sometimes, wonderful with kids, an amazing friend and co-worker, and forgave jaxons brother and father???? huhhhhhh? and i can’t even fathom why she didn’t just tell jaxon what they made her do? why should he live in ignorance? should he not know what type of people his family are? lemme just say that jaxon was not bright… or well in the ring situation he wasn’t. so he THINKS she stole the ring, she says she didn’t… why not maybe find other suspects?🧍♀️i mean it was obvious from the start that the brother was the one who did it. he had the motives, and he knew where it was, plus he had easy access. case solved. but this man just wanted to go the easy route and pin it on her. i know it makes sense at first but if he just used his brain☝️ if your gonna steal in the first place why just the ring? 🤔🤯
ok sorry for all that… reagan was kinda slay sometimes🥸 so was jaxon ig🌝 all in all it was nice to read a quick, funny and easy read! i truly needed it 🫶

2.5-3⭐️ what I liked: I liked that the FMC was divorced and taking charge of her life. I liked her girl squad, I liked the grandparents, and a few scenes that were relatable. I liked the idea for the book.
I struggled with: some of the plot points, and some of the far fetched and unprofessionalism given the setting, the MMC family was also problematic and the resolution of that storyline was not believable.
This book had me laughing out loud and snorting liquid out my nose! Kristen absolutely killed it with this rom-com. Prior to this, the authors books had been more dramatic and suspenseful romance reads. This book floored me with its witty banter, juvenile games, hilarious awkwardness, super sexy bedroom scenes and unbreakable friendships.
From beginning to end, I was enamored with Raegan. I felt like her character was someone you knew personally. We all have that woman in our life who’s just like her. Loyal, funny, trustworthy but has a past that’s scared her. A past that took her down and broke her spirit. A past that she needed to rise up from and overcome. Raegan needed to find herself again and what better way to get over a man, than to get under a new one? 😉
Jaxon, holy smoldering boss man. He was so drool worthy the entire read, even when he was being an @$$. Where were principals like him when I was in school?!?
The amount of real life drama and chaos that was woven into this story made it such an easy read and extremely relatable. I loved the entire story line, especially the unique plot. It was a breath of fresh air for a rom-com. A perfect blend of what you come to expect from a book in this genre with a unique spin.
The best part was you could see Kristen’s true personality shining through the entire story! You could feel the personal connection the author had with the story and the care she took to write something so honest and comical. I adored this book and it was a pleasure to read an advanced copy of it!
Who knew Kristen Granata could step away from the emotional rollercoaster romances she slays and give us a perfect rom-com? ME! I knew the second she told me. This woman can write no wrong. And I’m not just saying that because I’m in the book. Which by the way, was so surreal and the best surprise ever. I definitely cried. All over the place.
Hating the Boss was so much fun to read. It gave us everything. It was light but raw in emotion. It was empowering and heartwarming. It was sexy as hell and absolutely hilarious. The prank war was ridiculously amazing. I laughed out loud multiple times. The tension between Raegan and Jaxson ya’ll …pure fire! My girl amped up the sexy in this one. The desk scene?!? HELLO! Had my brown skin blushing! So. Freaking. Hot!
But as much as I looooooved Jax and Raegan, the female friendships in this book gave me life. It was so refreshing and lovely. It made me tear up a little bit/a lot a bit. Women are so much stronger when we lift each other up whenever we fall. Female friendships are so important. Reading that strong bond between Raegan and the girls felt so authentic and it was truly beautiful. It made my heart smile. I need more romcom’s from Kristen. I need ALL the romcom’s from Kristen. This was too good. I’m obsessed and as always, in awe. She slays again!
My first read from Kristen Granata and definitely not my last. I was laughing myself silly at 2 am trying to get over a major book hangover and this was THE PERFECT BOOK! There was much I could relate to but the humour added to it gave it a light feel without disregarding the issues addressed. I loved Reagan and Jaxon’s chemistry from the start, it flowed naturally and and wasn’t overdone. The chain of events that was set off by Nana’s missing ring made this story unforgettable and will undoubtedly be responsible for random outbursts of laughter from me. I can’t not mention the group of friends. Every girl needs a mini support group like Rae has. What a LOL hilarious read that kept me hooked from start to end.
If you’re a fan of rom-coms, this book is for YOU! This was such a light, easy read that had me laughing so hard at times. The bickering and the pranks between Reagan and Jaxon was just hilarious. Everything was well written and while this book isn’t very long, nothing felt super rushed and the character development was great. Loved this book! :)
“Hating the Boss”—Kristen Granata [5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️] This was my first read by this author, and wow this was awesome; I finished this in just one day! This book was so light and fun to read and I was hooked right from the beginning. Reagan goes out with her friends to celebrate her recent divorce, where she meets this gorgeous man Jaxon, who she totally hits it off with. She ends up going home with him, and the next morning does the walk of shame out of his apartment while he’s asleep, not thinking she would ever see him again. Little does she know, that when she starts up the new school year, who would have guessed the new principal is none other than, Jaxon! What makes it worse is that he instantly recognizes her, and accused her of stealing something valuable from his apartment that night. Things are off to a rocky start; they hate each other and it’s non stop pranks back and forth between them. Through all the anger and the pranks, could it be possible they are falling for each other? 😉 This was such a great enemies to lovers rom-com, and I highly recommend to read 👍🏼💕📚
this was alright! i enjoyed this short story about a teacher and a principal. said principal accused the teacher for stealing his grandmother’s ring from his cabinet the night he brought her back to his house. said teacher 100% didn’t but the principal didn’t believe. what ensued thereafter was a prank war between them until they called truce, and even then, more things happened cause said principal’s family is pretty messed up. i wasn't super invested in the characters but i was enjoying their banter.
This book is exactly what my soul needed at this moment. I loved this rom-com so much! I couldn't put it down and literally read it in a matter of hours. I loved that it was equal parts sweet and charming, laugh out loud funny and also had elements of raw and emotional moments in it. Jaxon and Raegan's did not have your typical relationship and they had huge hurdles to overcome throughout their story but it was such a joy to read this book. Their prank wars left me laughing out loud until my stomach hurt. The dodgeball and coffee scenes are two of my favourite moments in the book! Then there was the awesome cast of female character's in this book. I loved how Raegan was surrounded by a strong group of female characters who had her back and each others backs through everything. This book was also super steamy and had romantic moments that made my heart burst with joy. I highly recommend this book!
* This is my honest review, although I won this book in a giveaway I was not under any obligation to leave a review.
This is my first book that has introduced me to Kristen Granta. I was not familiar of the author and I came to know about her in giveaway because i was intrigued by the summary of Hating the Boss, (honestly i never thought I would win since i never win anything) i am being honest on my part when I say i truly like the author's writing style. I really enjoyed this book, from the very beginning the author was able to grab my attention and keep me engaged through the whole book. I love the back and forth between Jaxson and Raegan. There was humor through out the book that resulted in stares from others because she had me laughing. Then of course you have those people you dislike and man did she make me hate some characters, but it sure was not the boss I was hating on. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a good laugh and a story with a happy ending cause i truly enjoyed it, and now i can not wait to read her other books.
A super story set in an elementary school. An interesting adventure to find love with a few hundred rug rats under foot. Love and chemistry flow strongly but events keep getting in the way.
this was such a fun enemies to lovers story! with a little bit of one-night stand and boss/employee fun. this one really did keep me on my toes after that first chapter! i could not put it down, and i read it all in one day!
i loved the banter between Reagan and Jaxon. you could feel the chemistry that they both tried to ignore for the longest time but couldn't resist it. i loved watching their growth and although there was some "miscommunication" it was handled quickly and didn't get on my nerves.
i also loved that Reagan was a kindergarten teacher and her tribe of friends truly bought the comedy throughout the whole book!
