Wow! This novella was beautiful, touching and so intense that I couldn't put it down! It addresses tough issues, as the main character, Piper McCormack, is a unique woman with a heartwrenching past, as she is an abortion survivor. Her story touched me deeply as it is an issue that calls to my heart as it is something that sadly happens so much, mostly due to women facing having a child under very hard circumstances and rejection, but in most cases they probably ignore the consequences, not only in their lives, but what it can truly mean to end a human life before it can see the light of the world. This may seem unbelievable, but it is not. I've seen more than a few similar testimonies and they all leave me awed and praying for life in every stage to be respected. There are so many people that would open their hearts through adoption to these babies, that I always wish and pray these women in dire straits, or even selfish motives, would only compromise to let their child be born even if they can't take care of them. There are so many people who would take these human blessings into their families and give them the love they need and deserve. Piper is a fragrance chemist, due to how she was born, she has a special gift for discerning fragrances, a quality that will prove a blessing in her life. She has been matched to a blind date with an OBGYN. When she tries to cancel the date, due to her sensivities (she understandably doesn't think she could ever be a match to this kind of doctor), it's too late because Dr. Jake Connors will go directly from the airport to pick her up. Jake, after many years of not dating and devoting his life to bringing babies to the world is ready to settle down and look for the woman of his dreams. Is is too much to expect that Piper could fill this hole in his life? As it turns out, Piper is so much more than he expected. She glows with life and beauty, inner and outside, and after a few amazing dates, he knows he's smitten. But there's something that keeps Piper on edge, and when he finds out it will leave him reeling. I don't want to tell much about the blurb so I won't spoil this story, that I would have loved for it to be longer, so I could get to know better the characters and their struggles. Still, it was enough to get a measure of the depth of both of them, their kind and compassionate hearts, their selflessness and courage. I wasn't expecting the dangerous and intriguing part that kept me on the edge of my seat, and fearing for their lives, which made the story even more engaging. I loved the plot, the characters, the ending, but especially the message. A faith inspired message of the value of every human life, from the womb until its natural end. And about trusting God and His unconditional love for each of us. I loved how God quietly inspired Piper to act, and her courage to do what God is guiding her to do, in spite of the threat it meant to her life. Piper and Jake's romance was totally sweet and clean, so endearing. I fell in love with the characters. The whole story left me feeling inspired and rooting for all this tiny blessings that need us to voice their rights to live and shine! I definitely recommend this novella! I hope it impacts many other people, particularly women, as it did me. I received a copy of this book from the author, but wasn't required to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I was very excited to read this book, then was a little bored at first. Just when I thought the whole book was going to be slow and steady, BAM! it took a turn that shocked and surprised me. Loved the characters, love the subject matter. Thought the end was a bit rushed compared to the rest of the book, but would recommend to my friends *I received this book from the author, however this review is my honest opinion*
This was an entertaining novella and yet a tear-jerker the next. It opens your eyes to the pain abortion entails. This was a good page turner and wished it was just a little longer, lol. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
A Small Voice is a Christian suspense romance novella with a theme that is prevalent in our society today. Piper is an abortion survivor who is hesitant to go on a blind date with OB/GYN Dr. Jake Connors. The drama and connection that unfolded was more than anticipated by Piper and Jake. One thing they had in common though they were both pro-life. Will their pro-life stance cause more drama to happen with threats on their lives? There were parts of this tale that felt rushed and unsettling. There is a faith message included in the story too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book form the author without any obligation to write a positive review. I have shared my own opinion.
This novella had a great premise: an abortion survivor dating an OBGYN doctor, it was at times a hard story to read. I have listened to a woman who was also a survivor. She has great faith and capacity for forgiveness. Some aspects of this story felt a little rushed and forced to me( no spoilers). I just didn’t understand the actions of some of the characters. I was disturbed by the final poem, but I guess that was the point. I felt this story would benefit from an expansion and longer time for the main characters to get to know each other. As it was I really liked Piper and Jake. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This review is my honest opinion.*
This intense, faith-filled novella is a very compelling read and I genuinely enjoyed it! The characters are extremely likable; it is easy to get involved with their story. The plot is excellent, centered around an issue that Christians have very strong beliefs about, and an intriguing mystery. The characters, then the plot, captured me from the first page. This is not the kind of story one can easily put down.
Piper, a Christian, has been set up on a blind date by a close friend and co-worker. The man is an OB-GYN. When she learns that, she wants to cancel the date. Piper was the survivor of an abortion. Her twin died, and while Piper has health challenges as a result, she has a benefit that has determined her current career as a fragrance chemist. Her heightened sense of smell and ability to break down the elements of what she smells brings advantages she never would have thought of before.
Jake, the doctor, is a very kind, interesting gentleman, and he talks her into a second date as he needs a plus one for a hospital Christmas party. By the third date, she is beginning to care for him, and determines to learn his stand on abortion before they go any farther. Before she can do that, however, he is dragged away from his plane when they land. Appearances indicate the kidnappers are professionals at what they do, but not quite professional enough to have noticed she was on board.
Piper is devastated by the turn of events, praying that the police can find him while there is time. His parents did not receive a ransom demand, so who and why he was taken is unknown. He had mentioned that he has a deep, dark secret that one day he will share with you. She now wonders if that secret is the reason he was kidnapped.
Wow, what a story! This is my favorite of the novellas of Anne Greene that I have read! Reading Christian fiction is important to me for several reasons, and I appreciate how well the author shows the characters’ faith in the Lord. The subject matter is of great interest, especially with today’s changing environment. There are few characters which is good; I could focus on Piper, Jake, and the kidnapping. The characters are very well defined throughout the course of the story. The mystery is very well written. I followed a red herring for a while and was surprised when the bad guys were revealed. I was surprised at the reason, as I didn’t comprehend it as a reason for what was done. I continue to be amazed at the gift Anne Greene has in writing novellas that are as satisfying as full-length novels! The was very satisfying; I would definitely enjoy a sequel or series with the characters and their callings. I highly recommend this to women of all ages, those who appreciate well-written Christian stories, suspense, and current issues.
From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
A SMALL VOICE by Anne Greene is a wonderful novella that tells the story of Piper McCormack, fragrance chemist, and OB-GYN Doctor Jack Connor’s meeting and their pro-life connection.
Piper is an abortion survivor which left her with many medical issues. Her heightened sense of smell is what led her to her occupation. When a friend arranges a blind date with an OB-GYN doctor, she can’t see herself every dating someone that could perform abortions ending an innocent life that God had breathed life into and consider it just part of their job. However, he’s already on his way to her apartment and there’s no way to cancel the date. For her friend’s sake, she will go out this one time. She can make it through a couple hours and then never see him again.
Jack has always put his job and succeeding first in his life never finding the time for dating or a serious relationship. Although, there are a few things he believes strongly in through his faith that he’s willing to devote his extra time and energies too. He finds himself at Christmas and needing a +1 for the annual Christmas party. When approached by a patient about a blind date, he figured he didn’t have anything to lose. Never in his wildest dreams did he think he would be captivated by this woman from their first meeting. Even though she tells him from the first date that nothing could come out of their dating, she agrees to go to the party with him since no one deserves to be alone at Christmas. It leaves the door open for him to have hope.
With no logic, Piper can’t but admit that she’s drawn to Jack. She has to ask him the all-important question about his views on abortion. On their third day, after she tells him her story and asks him and before he can answer, Jack is kidnapped. Can she use her extra skills to help the police save Jack’s life? Why was he kidnapped? Will harm also come to his family and herself? After he’s released, will they bend to the kidnappers demands or continue on with their goals? Is there a future for Piper and Jack?
A SMALL VOICE is a Christian based novella about abortion, choices, consequences, faith and love. Anne Greene writes in a wonderful story in a short novella format that’s a reaffirmation of faith and following the path God puts us on. To remember in all things look to God, be prayerful and be willing to stand for your convictions. I love this author’s writing and can’t wait for the opportunity to read more of her amazing stories.
I received a copy of this book from the author. This review is my honest opinion.
A Small Voice by Anne Greene Book starts off with a dedication page and scripture. Story starts by following Piper McCormack and she's talking to her friend who's set her up with a blind date. She has to relay to her friend the reason why she doesn't want to date a doctor, especially an OBGYN. When I heard the story behind her decision it also didn't set well with me. I had never heard about this experience. I know nothing abut abortions. The words are so real to me I can see the fetus going through what Piper describes. Never realized there could ever be a group of abortion survivors. Story for me takes on a new approach after hearing all this. Love that she fights for not only her life but her past and others who've gone through the same thing. She does date Jake Connors and he's a very accomplished doctor. They go to many events around the holiday and they get to know one another. Upon returning to the airfield after he was piloting the plane he is kidnapped and they hadn't seen her in the passenger seat of the plane. She gets a lot of information about the culprits and calls the police. Others try to help her ease her mind about the event. Piper is a chemist dealing with scents. Love hearing about her blog and she hopes to help the police in further investigations as she has with the current one. She is able to pinpoint where Jake was held by the smell on his clothes. Love how she talks to her aborted sister throughout the book and relies on God to help with scriptures she has learned over the years. Love how Jake does support her blog especially with the ending poem. Book club discussion questions are listed at the end. Note from the author and her bio are included. Listings of her other works and contacts online are listed. Excerpt from Mystery at Dead Broke Ranch is also included. Love all the research the author did on the subject. Made this book a bit easier for me read. Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
The survivor of an abortion that killed her twin, Piper McCormack came through with scarred lungs, sun-sensitive skin, and a nose that can detect the faintest nuances in scent, which comes in handy in her job as a fragrance chemist. She has two hard and fast rules when it comes to dating. One, any man she dates must be a believer, and two, she will not date an OB-GYN because those are the doctors most likely to perform abortions. When a friend sets her up on a blind date, and tells her minutes before that her date is a doctor, she is apprehensive about going but agrees only because it's too late to back out. Can she see past the profession to the man she could love?
Dr. Jake Connors has spent so much time focusing on his career, and bringing babies into the world, that dating went by the wayside. He has high hopes for his date with Piper, but is blown away by how perfect for him she seems. Can he convince her that being an obstetrician doesn't make him an abortionist? It's a battle he's been fighting in secret for a while, but when he's kidnapped and beaten for his stand, can Piper use her skills to help the police track down the men who took him?
I read this book in an evening, which tells me I couldn't put it down. It's not super long, but the characters are perfect for one another, and the story is compelling enough to keep readers engrossed. I enjoyed this!
I received my copy from the author, but every opinion here is my own.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved the concept, especially the direct arguments against abortion. However, I felt like the execution was a bit off.
The faith threads were there but too subtle for me. And what was the deal with Piper talking to her twin who died at birth? It didn't come across as sentimental but as a bit neurotic.
The characters were memorable but more for what happened to them and their occupations. They weren't really relatable to me.
The world-building was good.
The pacing was good right up until the abrupt ending. I didn't like the ending chapter, as it felt way too fast for Jake to have had time to think & pray about this "long and hard" (p. 98). And the epilogue felt unfinished. It was a terrible way to end the book with that horrible and graphic "poem"!
And the quality of formatting and editing wasn't great, either.
The idea was great, but I wasn't impressed with the execution of it. It just needed a bit more time to hone it into something great.
Favorite quotes: “She'd never been heroic, but some things were worth fighting for – like a baby's right to life...” (p. 80)
(I received a copy for free from the author. I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are my own, as was the decision to write this review.)
A Small Voice, by Anne Greene, is a contemporary Christian story suspenseful romance story. Piper is an abortion survivor and is set up on a blind date with Jake, and OBGYN. She struggles with dating a man who might possibly perform abortions. What she doesn't know is that Jake is very outspoken against abortion and there are people who want him to stop. He is abducted, held and beaten. When he is released he is told to stop voicing his opinion or not only his life but Piper's and his parents will be on line. Piper has an active internet site that reaches out to other abortion survivors. She is outspoken against abortion and her life is threatened. This is a nice story, of 102 pages, with strong characters with strong faith, Christian beliefs and morals. The story is action filled with suspense with a touch of romance. I enjoyed reading this short story, the romance is sweet. The story does focus on abortions and gives some background into how they were done. The story ends with a poem that starts out beautifully but ends with a very descriptive abortion that could be very upsetting to some readers. I received a copy of this book from the author. This review is my honest opinion.
First of all I loved the cover. The doctor and chemist were pictured perfectly and who could resist the cute little baby, adorable. The story itself could have been ripped right out of today’s newspaper. Piper told her story right off to her best friend who was trying to set her up on a blind date with an OB-GYN Piper had her perfectly understandable reasons not to go out with him but it was too late to cancel. He seemed “right on the money” to me, no pun. Tall, strong, good looking, a doctor, an airplane pilot, most of all a Christian. I think Piper saw those qualities as well. But on their third date something horrid happened. The author writes a good story about a sensitive subject, adding mystery, kidnapping and greed. I fully agree with Piper and Jake and their opinions and Christian views. A great story to spend an evening reading. I knew when I first read the description that it was one I had to read! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are strictly my own.
A Small Voice by Anne Greene is a contemporary suspenseful romance.
A friend sets up Piper McCormack on a blind date with a doctor. She has always been leery of dating doctors, especially an OBGYN. Being a survivor of an abortion, she has scars and sensitive skin, but also an acute sense of smell. Working as a fragrance chemist, she can detect the faintest of scents.
Dr. Jake Conners is an OBGYN who has been focused on his career. Jake has high hopes about this date, as he has put dating to the side for many years. Piper is attracted to the tall good looking doctor, but Piper's one concern is whether Jake has ever performed abortions.
On their third date, something goes very wrong. Jake is kidnapped and beaten. When he finds out why, he has a tough decision to make.
I love Piper and Jake's faith as they go through the threats and a very scary situation. I think Anne Greene was tactful in dealing with a sensitive subject.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
WOW talk about a powerful story line & plot loved how the author pulls the story line of a botched abortion, a love story, between an OBYGN Doctor and a Fragrance Chemist but the author made sure to add suspense, action, fun, the will they or won't they that keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more from beginning of book to the end. To be honest I hated to see this book end despite the tears in my eyes I thought this book could just be the beginning to a series. I highly recommend this book & will read again ****Please Note**** I received a paperback book to read in exchange for my honest review the above is my honest review, also in my opinion a Trigger Warning that abortion is mentioned in book but don't let that stop you from reading this book because it's amazing how the author put together such a great story line if I could rate this book more than 5 stars I would because this book is that good
In all of my 55 years of reading, I have never read a book like this! The main character of the book-Piper-is the survivor of a botched abortion. Being a survivor has left her with an ability of very astute smell, but also a reaction to something that normal people deal with daily. Abortion is a hot topic and most people avoid the subject because of the blow back from others that believe in abortion. Anne Greene addresses that elephant in the room and she did it so eloquently too. This is a short book, I absolutely loved it! The author has listed some questions at the end of the book to bring up at book club discussions. The questions are thought provoking, my favorite one was "How did the book make you feel". I cried for all the lives that are cut so short and in cruel ways. I am against abortion, as you can tell. Take time to read this book, it truly is a great book. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
A Small Voice is a contemporary Christian romance/suspense novella by author Anne Greene.
Piper McCormack’s blind date is an OBGYN. However, Piper has a secret. A Small Voice is well-written although it may be a trigger for some readers.
I learned about Fragrance Chemists and what they do. Much research on different topics went into A Small Voice.
I love the cover and recommend A Small Voice to readers of contemporary Christian romance/suspense.

Having read and enjoyed a number of author Anne Greene's books, I knew that A Small Voice would be a good story to read. I was not disappointed. This contemporary romantic suspense novella is a story that kept my interest from the first page to the last. Piper and Jake met on a blind date and both came with pasts and secrets that could derail a relationship before it even begins. Greene tactfully deals with issues involving abortion and gives interesting information about the role of a Fragrance Chemist. The story has a bit of edge-of-the-seat action and, of course, a sweet romance. I look forward to reading more from this author. Readers who enjoy a little mystery mixed with romance will not want to miss this one. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
This is one book by Anne that literally moved me spiritually and by the title I had to read it. Much to my surprise, it was an awesome read! Piper is a very devout Christian woman and is set-up on a blind date she really did not want to go on. She was only following the request of a friend and co-worker to try to convince Jake, who is an OB GYN doctor and she is still reeling from the experience of being aborted with a twin but survived. She was certainly not really interested in dating, much less a doctor. Not to give away the twist, but you will not want to put this book down until you finish it. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
I loved the premise of this book as soon as I saw it, and the story did not disappoint. I can tell the author put in a lot of time doing research for this book. I loved the characters of Piper and Jake and the stand they took on the subject of abortion. And I commend the author for tackling such a difficult subject. I would recommend this book. Small warning: the author briefly describes how a couple of types of abortions are done. While not extremely graphic, she conveys the horrors of abortion. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
I received a paperback copy from the author to read and review. This may be a short book, but don’t let the size fool you. It’s packed with action, adventure, mystery, and maybe love. Anne Greene begins the story with Psalm 139:13-16 and ends this book with chapter one from Mystery At Dead Broke Ranch. Warning: There are some details given pertaining to abortion. Take caution of this sensitive topic. Anne Greene graciously broaches abortion and how there are actual survivors. Thank you, Anne, for writing this beautiful story.
This is the first book by Anne Greene I have read but it won't be the last. The book starts off like a sweet romance full of light-heartedness, when suddenly it becomes full of danger and intrigue. I had never read a story about an abortion survivor and the topic is handled sensitively. It was very interesting how Piper was able to use her super skill to help the police find Jake's kidnappers. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I received my copy through a giveaway and was not required to leave a review. The views expressed are my honest thoughts.
The author is new to me, and I'm hooked:) This a novella is built on Christian values and the beliefs, especially the sanctity of life from conception coveyed so eloquently in Psalm 139. The story follows the romance of Piper McCormack, an abortion survivor, and Dr. Jake Connors, an OBGYN specialist, and his subsequent kidnapping. No spoilers; just a guaranteed HEA. I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy, and enjoyed it so much that I bought an e book through Amazon. The review is my honest opinion: Well done!
Wow! What a powerful book. This book deals with abortion in a very different way. I really like the way the author deals with the subject. And, I learned about what can happen with a botched abortion. There is also some romance involved. And, there is faith, a belief in God. I really enjoyed the book. I think it's a great book. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
I found this book to be a page turner , I couldn’t put it down for wanting to know what was going to happen next. This book tells the story of Piper a survivor and Jake the OBGYN . And through all adversity they endured will love over come .
I received an ARC copy from the author fir my honest review. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to go on a journey to see if you can hear the small voice .
This book carefully unveiled the hidden truths behind abortions. It was heart-touching, while still including romance, drama, mystery, and suspense. It captivated me from the beginning, and I truly could not put it down until I finished it. I have read very few books that can even compare to it. I highly recommend it! Even the cover is heart-touching! I received a print copy of this book from the author, but the review is my honest opinion.
A Small Voice is an interesting and thoughtful story by Anne Greene. It tell the sweet love story between Piper and Jake Connors who meet on a blind date. The story tells of love, survival, interesting gifts and second chances. I recommend it. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
A survivor of a botched "saline abortion", a blind date, a kidnapping and falling in love with the person that God has meant for you to be with. Piper and Dr. Jake fight for the rights of unborn children and become "A Small Voice" in that fight.
*I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book deals with the very controversial subject of abortion, but a needed to be talked about subject. It goes into what it can do to an individual as well as a whole society. Everyone should read this novella to get a view on the subject. A Christian romance novella.
Everything seems to far-fetched and too abrupt in this story of a fragrance chemist/abortion survivor dating an OBGYN doctor who is abruptly kidnapped from his plane, all within only about 100 pages. The juxtaposition of the "boudoir aromas" of sandalwood with a touch of cucumber and a love story among talk of thugs kidnapping to keep an abortion clinic from being built was too distracting.
