No character in the history of Urban Fantasy has had to work for their HEA as hard as SECRET MCQUEEN, and still, she’s not quite there yet. There’s the small matter of the zombie apocalypse left to deal with. I knew Sierra Dean was going to go big, but I had no idea the extent of it until I got my grabby hands on A SECRET TO DIE FOR, and read and read until I collapsed in a heap of fan-girl bliss. This is how a heroine of McQueen’s caliber is supposed to go out—in a devastatingly wonderful, blood-soaked supernova of FUCK YEAH! All of this series’ characters are in it to win it, some survive, and some don’t. I devoured this book with a tissue in one hand and a beer in the other, and I strongly advise you to do the same.
First off, let me start by saying that the final Big Bad was SICK, and not just because she was named after one of my favourite blogger peeps. The army of the walking dead that has invaded New York was a surprise in that they aren’t real. You see, zombies don’t exist in this particular paranormal universe, so to defeat them Secret had to dig deep to uncover their source. And, what better way than enlisting the help of her vampire warden bloodhounds? Oh right, she pissed off the council AGAIN, and must hit pause to stand trial while the city is burning. McQueen’s secret is out, so is Juan Carlos' (Ah, HA!), and the apocalypse wouldn’t be a party without the fae king himself offering up some underhanded help.
When I said that all of this series’ characters make a final stand, I do mean ALL, which is precisely how an end installment should play out. Heck, even Morgan, the conniving werewolf that was exiled to Siberia, drops in to stab Secret in the back for old time sake. I loved this last hoorah with Tyler, O’Brian, Mercedes, Reggie, Clementine, Desmond, Sutherland, Genie, Holden, Sig, Siobbhan, Shane, Keaty, Calliope, Aubrey, aannnd yes, Lucas too. It hurts me to say this, but I can’t justify hating him anymore after his actions in this novel. Multiple characters don’t make it out of this one alive, however there was one death in particular that cut me to the core, and I still haven’t quite forgiven Dean for pulling that trigger.
Last but definitely not least is Secret, her badass-ery somehow managed to reach whole new levels of amazeballs, and that pesky prophecy that’s been riding her coattails for several installments now came true in the most unlikely of ways. I bawled, I cheered, I flailed, and I fan-girled ’til I could fan-girl no more. I was beyond thrilled with how Dean ended things; the way she dotted her i’s, and crossed her t’s was sublime. I felt sorry for the loser in the Secret / Desmond / Holden love triangle, but there’s no arguing the fact that McQueen chose the right man for her. The only thing that’s allowed me to sleep through the night now that this series is over is the knowledge that there’s a spin-off launching next year.
A SECRET TO DIE FOR was the best early Christmas present that Sierra Dean could have possibly given me. Secret McQueen, you will be missed!

I’ll admit, I started this book with fear in my heart. Sierra Dean has been very upfront about her plans for carnage in this book. She has said openly that people will die… that this series would go out with a bang. And while I have downright lobbied for the death of at least one character in this book, Dean has proven over and over that she never chooses the easy path for her heroine. As expected, this book is no different.
As the story begins, zombies have taken over New York. Well, not zombies exactly, but suffice it to say the dead are walking the streets and the Big Apple looks like a warzone. Secret and her team of besties make it their mission to figure out what is behind the infestation and cut it off at the legs. It’s no easy task, especially now that the secret of her hybrid blood is out. How will the vampire council react? Will this give her enemies the ammunition they need to see her dead? Will the wolves reject her? It’s the reality she’s been afraid of since the series began. Watching it all play out is good stuff.
If it’s the love triangle you’re worried about, well, Secret did choose a man at the end of the last book. Of course, there are repercussions there. That’s all I have to say about that.
The deaths were what I was really worried about, and they were major deaths. (Yes, deaths, plural.) While I thought I knew exactly how I would feel about the death of any main characters, I was wrong. Dean managed to get in a good sucker punch. I have run the gamut with these characters over the course of eight books. They’ve been entertaining, infuriating, sympathetic, sexy, loveable, and pitiful, in turns. Even though I knew it was coming, when we lost one, it was so sudden and jarring… and nothing like I thought it would be. I’m sad. I can see why it was important to the story, but it hurt more than I thought it would.
What was most impressive to me about the book is that Dean has managed to tie up all the loose ends. All the prophecies come to pass. All the old scores are settled. All of the debts paid. And the climax played out in pretty spectacular fashion. I never had any idea what was coming next in the story, but when all was said and done it all felt like it happened exactly the way it was supposed to. Kudos to Sierra Dean. I think fans will be satisfied. I was.

It's not a secret, this is one of my all time favorite series EVER! I'm sad because it has come to an end, but I'm happy because Sierra ended it in a the perfect place and with a perfect ending... and not just that... The villain in this book is exceptional... one of a kind... the best villain ever! You need to read the book to know what I'm talking about.

Disappointed.... that's me, just now.
Here I have said goodbye to one of my favourite series, and I know one thing for sure. While it lasted, it was one of the most dynamic, explosive, gripping and inspiring PNRs out there, never lacking original content. The culmination of the series? Bleak, weak, and sporting a mean stupid streak....not how I expected, or ever imagined Secret McQueen to end.
One thing that Sierra Dean's writing always had, was thought trough story-lines. She made a conscious effort to place her characters in situations that follow common sense, and she did this every single novel, every single time. That will explain the massive fan base for this series.
So tell me: How the hell does this happen? NYC is burning, and we have 21 necromancers to deal with, right? Right!
We have Secret, working side to side with the entire werewolf pack, the crème de la crème of the undead, including Tribunal Leaders, Wardens, and the lot... and friggin Sigvard the Magnificent amongst their numbers.
So all of them are coordinating an attack against a bunch of humans, and the 'risen' (zombies, but not....because they DON'T DO ANYTHING, and are just stood there, well not stood there, walking around, still NOT DOING ANYTHING...), when Secret gets approached by Aubrey, who's hellbent on settling her debt. So far, so good.
But then! He says he will loan her his power for a night, at the end of witch she will lose her 'otherness', and become human. Wait for it, here comes the stupid bit. At dawn, she needs to kill herself with her own sword....(to cleanse it from the evil she polluted it with). I shit you not, she doesn't bat an eye, and says yes. Even goes trough with it. Without telling Desmond anything.
Oh for the love of god, why didn't she just cut his balls off with a set of garden shears instead? That was the shittiest move Secret McQueen has ever pulled. And the stupidest, because I don't get it. She was in far worse situations, with the odds most certainly not 'eva in her fava', and pulled trough. So what is it????
Secret McQueen can go no further because, she is not meant to. This has been a series that has not run it's natural course, because Dean created a character and a world that still has too many possibilities, and was interesting enough to have faithful readers. It ended this way because the author decided to put Secret to rest and that's it. So all other talk is pointless. No matter how loud the applause, we have witnessed the last encore. At least as we say goodbye to a loved series, we are left with the knowledge that the author still cares for her creation and recognises the many stories still waiting to be told. We will get to see soon enough a brand new twist on the paranormal world we all love. I don't know about you, but I have high hopes for this one...

I've never put a book down so many times as I did A SECRET TO DIE FOR. But not because it wasn't good, because I didn't want it to end. We are finally here, the end of the Secret McQueen series. And it's been a ride!
Secret has been stuck in a love triangle for most of the series. Sometimes the guys in the triangle has changed and I've waffled in which guy I wanted Secret to end up with. Even though Secret made her choice in the last book, COLD HARD SECRET, there was still some leftover love triangle moments to deal with. And I'm still waffling about if I'm happy with the ending to Secret's love life.
Let's talk about the action... It was non-stop and while it was great I rolled my eyes at first when Secret was faced with what looked like a zombie apocalypse. Really?! We're into the last book of the series and we're getting a new plot line. But I was WRONG to doubt Sierra Dean. She pulled off the "zombie" story line well and managed to wrap up the series without it feeling rushed.
"Bill. Bill? Were we seriously here to kill a necromancer biker named Bill?"
A SECRET TO DIE FOR is a full of past and present characters and a couple of deaths along the way. (I didn't spoil you! Look that book summary. You've been warned!) I was going to rate A SECRET TO DIE FOR 3.5 stars but one of the deaths earned it an extra .5 star. LOL Cold hearted of me? Maybe. But I wanted the character gone for so long but it was a bitter-sweet exit since "they" were redeemed in the end.

For me this was a disappointing ending to an enjoyable series. While I liked the way the book wrapped up in the last few chapters I had major issues with the first 95% of the book.
My biggest problem was how much I disliked Secret throughout this entire book. I found her to be narcissistic and self absorbed. She had a hero complex that was just out of hand. NO ONE could save the city (HER city!) like she could. She continually wanted to go all lone ranger to fight the bad guys despite it being a terrible idea. Every single fight scene started with Secret endlessly flapping her jaws about how bad @** she was and how she was going to beat them up.
Finally, at one point Holden tells her off: "This isn't your city. This is our city. I've lived here since before your mother's mother was born. I have known things about this place and have loved more people in it than you will love in your whole damned life. And I'm just as scared as you are about what's happening. I know you're mad. So am I. We all are. Every person you left at that hotel cares just as much about this as you do. This isn't your vendetta. Not every fight has to be yours alone, you know."
Thank goodness for Holden because I was so frustrated with Secret at that point I could have put the book down and never picked it back up again. Clearly Holden still cares about Secret despite her leaving him behind. Which was another point of contention for me. I've never agreed with her decision when it comes to her love triangle but her endlessly complaining in this book about how unfair it is that by not choosing Holden she just may be giving up on their friendship is OBNOXIOUS. YES SECRET. BREAKING A GUYS HEART MAY CAUSE HIM TO NOT WANT TO BE AROUND YOU ANYMORE. And her comments like "If he couldn't overlook his broken heart for a little while, I didn't know if we would pull through this..." were so insulting.
On a positive note, there was one paragraph in particular that really resonated with me. Aubrey the fairy king makes an appearance and sums up Secret's struggles to pull herself back together after the horrible events that happened to her in the previous book:
"In Japan, there is a custom. When a piece of pottery is broken, it is put back together, but the cracks are filled with gold. They do not attempt to hide or diminish where the item was broken, but rather draw attention to it. Kintsukuroi means that something is more beautiful for having been broken."
So yeah- in summary there were a few good moments, and a I liked the ending but I couldn't get over Secret's overwhelming personality. It ruined the book for me.

Omg, the end, the end! I am both sad and happy. Sad because it ended, happy cos it ended well (as many series just drag on.)
And as for her choice..I can't not tell you what I will cos if you know which team I am on you will know.
But it was a good ending. Things came together. I am happy where I left Secret.
And now the review:
This is the end. I am sad, but I am also happy. Too many series have gone downhill. But Secret manages to stay on top of things and never go bad. I m sad that it's over, and I do hope she writes more books, or novellas set in this universe.
The last book ended with a bang. They come back and find New York on fire and zombies everywhere. Awesome! Or not so awesome as things are going to hell and fast. But fear not because Secret is here and she has vampires and werewolves to help her.
First order of business. Zombies, there are no zombies, or? Better take them all down.
Second order of business. Trying for a happily ever after.
There will be tears. There will be action. There will be an evil baddie (that also had me laughing as I saw the name ;). There will even be romance, and heartache. The heartache was from me. Evil evil author. Think of my heart!
As for the choice. I am happy with the choice she made. It fits her, and I could see her happy now.
There was also something else that had me smiling. Yes I know I am cryptic but I can't spoil things now can I? Well done. I was really happy with those turns of events *cryptic*.

The final installment of the Secret McQueen series gave us closure with plenty of action, romance, tears and healing to get us to the finish line.
Secret has grown and changed a lot since we first met her in SOMETHING SECRET THIS WAY COMES. We have watched her fight and we have watched her love. We have seen her at her worst and at her best. We have witnessed her struggle and we finally get to see her complete her journey and heal. If you have read COLD DARK SECRET you know which man Secret has chosen. They still needed that final closure I think and we get that in book 8. We also watch her get closer to the man she chose to spend the rest of her life with and we watched her find closure with Lucas as well.
Although not all might agree with how everything ended, I think Secret truly DESERVED the ending she gets and the other characters deserved what ending they got. Sierra Dean truly ended the series on a believable note with all the little questions answered and characters where they belong. I am sad to see it go, but it went well.

Teeming with action, suspense, intrigue, and some delicious humor, Dean brings her game and ends the series on the note it started with-a huge bang. An engaging premise mixes paranormal legends to create a unique storyline that blends well with the on going romance. Smooth writing, dynamic characterization, and informative dialogue takes us to the finish line in style.
I have thoroughly enjoy the world that Ms. Dean created in her Secret McQueen series. From the beginning Ms. Dean has written an energetic and unapologetic urban fantasy with it’s wonderful balance of humor and suspense. Continuing world expansion and deepening character development kept this series fresh and engaging. At times I was dismayed, and yes, even angered at the choices and actions of our heroine. It says a lot for Dean’s skill as a writer that she was able to keep me enthralled by the series when most times I would have bailed by now. I haven’t always been Secret’s biggest fan but I admire the strength and resiliency Dean extracted from her. Her choices and actions of weren’t always the smartest as she tended to be a bit self involved but she always pulled up her big girl panties and dealt with the fall out.
“You guys didn’t feel a disturbance in the force or anything?”
Though most of the series open plot lines were closed in book seven, the remaining are firmly dealt with as Secret, along with Desmond, Holden, and various friends and foes come together to stop the invasion and possible destruction of the city. Emotions run higher than normal as death shadows the group, striking without warning. The reasons behind the invasion are interesting and I enjoyed the way Dean weaves aspects of Secret’s life into the conflict, allowing for her to finally find the closure she’s been searching for. Especially in the case of her love life. Dean redeem a certain character in my eyes which I really didn’t think was possible. For the first time I understood their motivations and see that their reasons for their actions had some merit.

“Loving you.”
Though I’m sad the series has ended, Dean does a fantastic job of ending it on the right, if not bloody, note. A small epilogue of sorts assures readers that Secret’s sacrifices were not all in vain and she is finally free. I’m also pleased to know that Dean is planning a spin-off in the future so maybe we will see Secret and her ‘entourage” in the future.

I think this was on of the most disappointing ending to a book series that I have read in a long time! I was so disappointed when having finished this book. Having followed the entire series through its ups and downs to be rewarded by this was really a WTF moment.
The first parts of the book is not bad. Actually the first 80% of the book is actually quite good even though it has its usual silly moments where Secret is behaving utterly amateurish like trying to sidestep her own plan on a whim because she is too eager, being frontally attacked in a narrow corridor while having a sword and still the attacker is not speared on it etc. etc. Not to mention Secret harping about her marriage needing to be nullified in the middle of a burning and zombie filled New York. Yeah right, great priorities.
Still, those are silly moments that we have gotten used to by this author. So are the slowdowns every so often for some “romantic moments”. On the whole though a good chunk of the book is not bad. Secret get to defend herself in front of the Vampire Council and Juan Carlos is not exactly getting what he wants. There are plenty of action, bickering between friends and general “bad-assery” from both Secret and her friends.
Then we come to the end. As I wrote, what an utter disappointment. All the time we have been hearing about Secret having a great destiny, we have been getting glimpses of her werewolf powers and so on. Every book I have read I have been hoping that some of this would manifest itself in Secret evolving and becoming something more, a really really bad-ass chick. So, *it* finally happened. It's one of the few things I've consistently wanted in this series, and now all I'm wishing is *it* didn't really happen! :'(

I actually put off reading this last book in this series as I have loved Secret McQueen and all her drama and didn't want it to end, but needs must if I want to read her spin off series about her sister, Genie.
Secret's secret is no longer secret! It seems that everyone now knows that she is both vampire and werewolf. Most people don't really care but she has majors fears about what the Vampire Council will do when they find her.
On her return to New York, Secret and co find themselves in the middle of an apocalypse of sorts - the reanimated dead are walking the streets and there are barely any humans around. They gather as many forces as they can muster and determine to get rid of those causing the problem. Unfortunately it is never as easy as that now, is it? And Secret has to enlist the help of someone who wants a great favour from her in return. Knowing she has no choice int eh matter, she reluctantly agrees even though it may cost her more than just her life.
I have to admit I really wasn't sure if Secret would manage to get through to the end, but knowing her character I knew it wouldn't really be the complete end of her. Can't have the bad guys winning now, can we?!
I have loved this series and all the characters in it and would love to read a follow up on Secret and Desmond one day.

Secret McQueen is back for one last adventure and it's so sad to see her go but fear not because this girl does not know how to go quietly! Be fully assured that the hybrid Secret is about to come out fighting and take on all comers no matter what. Forced to make tough choices regarding her (very) complicated love life she now knows what she wants but it's so hard to lose someone who you still love. Having a mate lurking in the background doesn't help either but Secret is not going to hide anymore and is prepared to stand up and be counted. Unfortunately there are those who seek her destruction but with a sword in one hand and her gun in the other Secret will take on whoever she needs to be they vampire or werewolf!
New York is being invaded by walking corpses and fires continue to rage as a new threat has arrived in the city. Secret is born to protect and gathers those she trusts to help her find the vile necromancers that are raising the dead. Tracking down a biker gang leads her to discover that it's going to take a lot more fire power but getting the werewolves to stand alongside her and the vampires is going to prove tricky. Old allies and enemies come together but readers will need tissues for this one as not everyone will survive unscathed. This author never fails to impress with her writing and I know there will be a lot of readers sad to see this series end. I'm so glad that the heroines love life finally got some clarity as it never sat well with me but isn't it great to see both Desmond and Holden both on the cover with her? It would be remiss not to mention her mate Lucas who might be king but he sure does seem to have been pushed into a back seat at times. There is more interaction with the vampires in this book than with the werewolves but there's a lovely twist that the author exploits but in this series there are other paranormals at work so be prepared to gasp at the conclusion.
So it's been a long journey filled with twists and turns that constantly surprised this reader . Urban fantasy is such a difficult genre to get right but Ms Dean has indeed perfected her craft and I can't wait to see what she dreams up next.

Alors, attention, attention, attention ! Il est indiqué que c'est le dernier de la série, mais, mais, mais, j'ai fouiné et l'auteur a sorti 3 autres tomes derrière. Plus qu'à attendre la traduction ! Par contre si vous n'êtes pas trop regardant, ce 8ème tome pourrait être le dernier, si vous ne faites pas attention à de petits détails qui vous donnent la puce à l'oreille qu'une suite est largement possible ! Enfin, tout cela pour dire que j'en veux bien encore de Secret et de Desmond, oui oui ! Et très heureuse de faire descendre doucement, mais surement ma HAL qui en a bien besoin.
Un tome que j'ai adoré, pas passé loin du coup de cœur, juste deux ou trois trucs qui ont fait que "hein?", non pas possible, pas comme cela. Sinon, l'intrigue suit son bonhomme de chemin. New York est en feu, littéralement. Une bande de bikers a fait son apparition et mis à sac la plupart des quartiers par le feu : serait-ce pour faire renaître NY de ces cendres, au propre ? Et des morts-vivants qui trainent par milliers. Pas des zombies, non ça, cela n'existe pas et Secret a beau le dire, ces êtres humains qui sont morts déambulent dans les rues comme si de rien n'était. C'est sympa de croiser des cadavres, amis ou non, que nous avons mis en terre il y a quelques temps, eux-là sont embaumés, donc plus de chance de les voir sans décomposition, mais les autres. Ceux qui sont là depuis des décennies voire plus, yeurk ! Et quand dans la flopée d'amis, ennemis, amants, famille et autres condiments de Secret l'un d'entre eux se fait tuer sous ses yeux et revient à la "vie" dans la seconde qui suit, là, le carnage est proche ! Cette partie des morts-vivants et forcément lié à celle du feu et très vite nous apprenons qui est derrière tout cela, ce qui serait sympa c'est de connaitre le but. Un but qui vient sur le tard et nous pouvons nous dire tout ça, pour ça ? Sérieux ? Ces "bikers" ont décidé de décimer la ville pour ça ??? Saleté de créatures sur deux roues qui pensent réussir plus que ce que la plupart peuvent bien faire.
Et en parlant des capacités, nous allons retrouver une Secret moins martyrisée psychologiquement, mais n'hésitera pas à se sacrifier pour sauver SA ville. Ce n'est pas la faute de Sig qui ne cesse de lui dire que de toute manière la ville est tombée et qu'elle n'est pas une héroïne. Elle ne peut pas laisser faire cela. Entre le fait que son secret a été dévoilé, que Juan Carlos de mes deux veut l'évincer du tribunal, le fait qu'elle est toujours "mariée" à Lucas, que sa famille se réduit à peau de chagrin, qu'elle a fait une promesse à Aubrey, un fae qui attend depuis trop longtemps que cette promesse soit enfin accomplie telle une prophétie et ce bordel pas organisé ? Tout va bien, bien entendu, il ne faut pas oublier ses ennuis de cœur et le retour d'une vilaine louve qui a tenté de la tuer. En même temps, la plupart des personnes qui l'entourent ont déjà tenté soit de l'avoir dans son lit, soit de la tuer, alors... On ne peut pas dire de Secret qu'elle soit égoïste, bien au contraire. Elle préférerait mourir pour l'un des siens, plutôt que de fuir, d'abandonner ou de se cacher. C'est une jeune femme admirable qui va jusqu'à pactiser avec le diable pour les sauver tous autant qu'ils sont même si dans une telle guerre il y aura forcément des morts, autres que ceux qui marchent déjà sur la ville.
Beaucoup d'actions, de rebondissements dès le départ. Les personnages secondaires prennent de plus en plus d'importance et certains se dévoilent de plus en plus. Genie a deux côtés et dans ce tome nous le comprenons aisément. Elle a l'apparence gentille, douce et agréable et quand on la cherche, waouh, c'est une vraie furie qui est capable de faire imploser n'importe qui. Lucas montre une nouvelle facette, mais pour ma part c'est trop tard et ce n'est pas parce qu'il est le roi des loups (j'ai failli mettre autre chose) qu'il peut décider que Secret ou n'importe quelle autre femme est un objet et ça, Desmond l'a bien compris. Juan Carlos est tel qu'il est depuis pas mal de tomes, mais alors là, Secret a mis le doigt sur quelque chose. Qu'est-ce que j'ai pu rire en imaginant ce conquistador troublé de cette manière ! Holden reste lui-même et nous ressentons tout l'amour qu'il a pour Secret, pour la ville pour ceux qui sont de sa famille. La fin sur ce qu'il va devenir est logique, depuis le temps qu'il voulait être reconnu ! Desmond et Dominic ont évolué, s'ouvrent plus également. Clémentine, je l'ai adoré avec sa manière de prendre les événements les uns après les autres ! Sutherland également, Shane et Siobhan ont grandi. Calliope est une fourbe dans le bon sens, qui pourrait l'amuser encore un peu plus dans ce monde où elle ne meurt jamais ? Il y a tellement de personnages que je pourrais continuer encore longtemps.
L'auteur laisse une porte ouverte avec quelques éléments, la vie de Secret, celui qui a réussi à s'enfuir, les quelques miettes de pains qui trainent encore. Pour autant ce tome clôture malgré tout une histoire avec le décès de certains membres de son équipe. Certaines histoires s'arrêtent là, parce que les liens sont terminés, finis, mis en terre. New York reprend son envol, mais pas entièrement. Le changement pour certains d'entre eux va les prendre aux tripes tout comme leur laisser un gout amer en bouche. Les combats ont été rudes même si certains sont passés sous silence. Les alliances improbables pour sauver ce qu'il reste sont ce qu'il y a de "magique". Et les attitudes des vampires qui vivent sous terre ne se rendant pas compte de ce qui se passe, franchement ils sont tordants quand ils se rendent compte que "hein, il faut faire quelque chose?" C'est deux mondes totalement différent et cela ne change pas le moins du monde. Les vivants à sang chaud plus ou moins et les sang-froids qui se fichent éperdument que le monde s'écroule, car ils seront toujours là après le carnage. Tiens en parlant de carnage, les bikers dirigés par une femme (eh ouais, ça vous en bouche un coin ?) ont certaines capacités pour un petit nombre. C'est toujours les sentiments qui semblent diriger le monde et cela ne fonctionne pas correctement.
En conclusion, dernier tome de cette série ou pas, les aventures de Secret sont nombreuses. Certaines étaient un peu en dessous des autres, mais dans l'ensemble, j'ai passé de très bons moments en sa compagnie. Elle va enfin pouvoir gouter un peu au bonheur, même si j'ai dans l'idée que rien n'est terminé totalement. Le cœur a ses raisons qui a besoin d'actions pour vivre. Peut-être qu'elle arrivera à dépasser la trentaine, qui sait ? Il faut dire qu'après avoir pactisé avec le diable, donné sa vie à plusieurs reprises et subit de nombreux combats, Secret et une vie tranquille ? Nous ne sommes pas dans un conte de fées loin de là ! En attendant d'en savoir plus, je vais la laisser dans son coin et je croise les doigts que les prochains seront traduits !

Beaucoup d'actions, de rebondissements dès le départ. Les personnages secondaires prennent de plus en plus d'importance et certains se dévoilent de plus en plus. Genie a deux côtés et dans ce tome nous le comprenons aisément. Elle a l'apparence gentille, douce et agréable et quand on la cherche, waouh, c'est une vraie furie qui est capable de faire imploser n'importe qui. Lucas montre une nouvelle facette, mais pour ma part c'est trop tard et ce n'est pas parce qu'il est le roi des loups (j'ai failli mettre autre chose) qu'il peut décider que Secret ou n'importe quelle autre femme est un objet et ça, Desmond l'a bien compris. Juan Carlos est tel qu'il est depuis pas mal de tomes, mais alors là, Secret a mis le doigt sur quelque chose. Qu'est-ce que j'ai pu rire en imaginant ce conquistador troublé de cette manière ! Holden reste lui-même et nous ressentons tout l'amour qu'il a pour Secret, pour la ville pour ceux qui sont de sa famille. La fin sur ce qu'il va devenir est logique, depuis le temps qu'il voulait être reconnu ! Desmond et Dominic ont évolué, s'ouvrent plus également. Clémentine, je l'ai adoré avec sa manière de prendre les événements les uns après les autres ! Sutherland également, Shane et Siobhan ont grandi. Calliope est une fourbe dans le bon sens, qui pourrait l'amuser encore un peu plus dans ce monde où elle ne meurt jamais ? Il y a tellement de personnages que je pourrais continuer encore longtemps.
L'auteur laisse une porte ouverte avec quelques éléments, la vie de Secret, celui qui a réussi à s'enfuir, les quelques miettes de pains qui trainent encore. Pour autant ce tome clôture malgré tout une histoire avec le décès de certains membres de son équipe. Certaines histoires s'arrêtent là, parce que les liens sont terminés, finis, mis en terre. New York reprend son envol, mais pas entièrement. Le changement pour certains d'entre eux va les prendre aux tripes tout comme leur laisser un gout amer en bouche. Les combats ont été rudes même si certains sont passés sous silence. Les alliances improbables pour sauver ce qu'il reste sont ce qu'il y a de "magique". Et les attitudes des vampires qui vivent sous terre ne se rendant pas compte de ce qui se passe, franchement ils sont tordants quand ils se rendent compte que "hein, il faut faire quelque chose?" C'est deux mondes totalement différent et cela ne change pas le moins du monde. Les vivants à sang chaud plus ou moins et les sang-froids qui se fichent éperdument que le monde s'écroule, car ils seront toujours là après le carnage. Tiens en parlant de carnage, les bikers dirigés par une femme (eh ouais, ça vous en bouche un coin ?) ont certaines capacités pour un petit nombre. C'est toujours les sentiments qui semblent diriger le monde et cela ne fonctionne pas correctement.
En conclusion, dernier tome de cette série ou pas, les aventures de Secret sont nombreuses. Certaines étaient un peu en dessous des autres, mais dans l'ensemble, j'ai passé de très bons moments en sa compagnie. Elle va enfin pouvoir gouter un peu au bonheur, même si j'ai dans l'idée que rien n'est terminé totalement. Le cœur a ses raisons qui a besoin d'actions pour vivre. Peut-être qu'elle arrivera à dépasser la trentaine, qui sait ? Il faut dire qu'après avoir pactisé avec le diable, donné sa vie à plusieurs reprises et subit de nombreux combats, Secret et une vie tranquille ? Nous ne sommes pas dans un conte de fées loin de là ! En attendant d'en savoir plus, je vais la laisser dans son coin et je croise les doigts que les prochains seront traduits !

I will admit that I love this series and I love the way this way this author writes. My favorite part of this book was that the strong, brave, fearless Secret found her way back to the game. The damage that she suffered in earlier books left her broken, yes, but her character suffered somewhat for it. I'm so glad that we got to share the laughs, the tears, and the excitement as she came back to us all.

I especially love when an author is not afraid to bring a beloved series to an end. And oh, what an end it was! I can see where the story could have continued. Secret's world has been a unique and exciting adventure and I am so happy that I was able to come along for the ride.

So sad it's all over :(
Everything ties uo nicely, I am heartbroken over The buildup to the end was very obvious in the previous book so I'm not surprised that a lot of things went down like they did. It's just about impossible to review this without spoilers. So much happened and when I think back to book 1 when Secret was a hired assassin for the council things have done a total 180 and some.
I'm always sad to finish a series but I do respect an author for not dragging it out till the bitter end. Secret has been my go to when I'm in the mood for a kick a$$ heroine and now I'm gonna have to find me a new go to series.

My jaw hit the floor, I giggled, I cried, I laughed and I balled. Repeatedly. This book was perfect and it ended the series perfectly. I am so proud of Sierra for being able to finish the series so well. Everything was dealt with and it all made sense. And even if you don't agree with Secret's ultimate choice, as far as the men are concerned, you will not be able to argue that the choice is good and it suits Secret well.

This book was great but I'm still not ok with the Desmond choice I dont know why exactly other than what I said if my previous review on the previous book. But seriously she felt she could not tell Desmond about what she did ... Holden found out and instead of stopping her because he knew she had to do it he helped her no matter how much it hurt him to do it. I also feel like a normal life won't be very fulfilling for Secret. Even if she decides to turn into a wolf I dont think it will be enough for her she is a fighter and always will be and lived by vampire law for too long and even stated she preferred it. I still really dont get or agree with her choosing Desmond and considering letting him bite her . I understand her liking g the notion of a normal life and being able to have children but that just isn't Secret she will always be in the thick of things and being Human or Wolf she isnt as strong . She will also always have enemies the necromancer they didnt kill for example. I just dont see her wanting to bring children into that and once she realizes these thing I hope she ends up back with the vampires and Holden

I read the final 4 Secret McQueen books back-to-back, so I can't really tell one from another. In two of the books, Secret is getting her ass handed to her in the usual dark urban fantasy ways. There's medical torture, for example. Then she turns it around, disposing of her enemies, and finally fighting zombies. Because EVERY book written at that time has zombies in it. It's apparently a rule - all UF authors must incorporate zombies, even if they don't fit in the book's world. The overall ending is a bitter sweet (some characters do die), but still satisfying.

Okay I procrastinated long enough because I was mad that Secret did not choose the man I wanted her to choose. But once I finished I could not put it down. I love the characters and the plot. I even love how awesome Secret gets in trouble and how she gets herself out. Dean really knows how to hook a reader. It's amazing!

It makes me sad to see this series end. I'm going to miss Secret and her crew.

I only recently discovered the Secret McQueen world, but quickly fell in love and read straight through to book seven. I couldn’t stop. I even wrote a post about it. Secret is crazy and headstrong and occasionally makes bad relationship choices, but she’s also protective and strong and cares deeply for the group of friends who she’s made her family. So when the eighth, and final, book came my way to read and review, I will admit I started it and then put it aside. Don’t get me wrong, I desperately wanted to dive in and find out how everything wraps up, but there was that part of me that just didn’t want to say goodbye. I know there’s quite a few of you out there have felt the same way about a long-running, favorite series. I wanted to know who Secret would end up with, but at the same time I didn’t. I knew characters may be killed off, and I just didn’t want that to happen. I knew that this series needed to end, everyone hates that series or story arc that goes on too long and ultimately becomes monotonous and just a little bit predictable, but it kind of made me sad to finally be at the end.
A Secret to Die For picks up immediately where book seven left off; New York City is on fire and Secret and her crew have to figure out what the heck is going on. During their travel through the city it becomes clear that the streets are filled with zombie like creatures and all hell has broken loose. But that can’t be, because zombies don’t exist. Right? Secret goes to the one person she knows will have some idea of what’s behind the chaos and it’s Keaty who makes the announcement that it has to be the work of necromancers and there’s an almost certainty its a huge group of them to raise this much of the dead. Of course Secret has to move forward and try to find a way to protect those she loves and restore order to her city. That’s what Secret does, who she is, she can’t not kill the bad guys.
Let me just say, I loved the way Ms. Dean chose to end this series. I really don’t want to give any spoilers. I’ve written this review a couple of times and every time I go back and erase most of what I’ve written because I think I haven’t been vague enough or maybe led readers down a path I think they need to go down without any warning. Like I mentioned above, there were choices to be made regarding Secret’s relationships and how she should go on in both the werewolf and vampire worlds. At the end of the previous release, Cold Hard Secret, she finally defeated two of her most hated enemies and the secret of her half vampire/half werewolf heritage came out. Now she has no idea where she stands with the tribunal or even if she will remain a tribunal leader. There’s also the little matter of the debt she still owes the fairy king. All of this and she’s got to convince the werewolf king to dissolve their mating so she can marry Desmond.
As you can imagine there is a lot going on and it’s intense. And heartbreaking. And believe it or not at times funny. Action packed to be sure as Secret has to rally the troops to deal with one heck of a villain. There is loss and freedom and revelations. Secret will come to realize that she has more friends and supporters than she knew. Rest assured that every loose thread will be tied up by the end. You may not completely love some of Secret’s choices, but they had to be made. I for one was content with the ending. I think Ms. Dean gave this series and its main character the send off they deserved. My only hope is that she returns to this world to write about some of the other characters in the future. Final Grade- B+

Well, its always sad to get to the end of a loved series...and of course there are calls from many readers for more. Not me though, I'd rather re read all that's gone, and enjoy it,than see a series strung out beyond its natural ending – go out on the top and that's what Sierra has done here. I admit around books 5-6 I did start to lose the way, but then the series picked up pace and delivered the fabulous drama and romance we want. Lucas – he’s always tied with Holden as top choice for Secret. I just loved him in their early days, both so full of passion. When Lucas discovered about Secret’s Vampire side he didn’t roil away in horror as so many would, but just accepted it as part of her and that made me feel even more that he was right for her. When things started to go wrong for them and then the wedding fiasco I just couldn’t believe the Lucas I knew would do that. Still, he did....Holden, he gave indication he was interested in her right from an early book – can’t recall which one now – when they were out on a job,and he kissed Secret to disguise themselves as lovers from passers by. There was far,far more than a gentle melding of lips, more a burning inferno blasting between them. He’s known Secret for years, always stood by her solidly and I think they’d be good together. Desmond has always been last choice for me, he just seemed so loving but not really the strong person she needs, and then when he left and let her down – that was it for me. Des, you were out....
Anyway, Sierra clearly has different thoughts to me and its her book so...I’ll accept it!! Secret needs all the strength the three can provide in this last adventure where the city has been invaded by ...Zombies?? no, everyone says – they don't exist – but the walking dead do,with the help of a gang who are on a mission.
We see so many old friends in this ending, and that wraps the story up so well for me. There was danger and high drama and then something would be said that made me laugh in the next moment. We learn who really has been pulling strings, what Calliope means by her enigmatic prophecies, just how strong the Fae king Aubrey's power is ( I can’t call him a Fairy king – I just can’t. Fairies are tiny little winged creatures, sweet and gentle, and Aubrey is none of that! ) Secrets friends from the police are here, the main characters from the vampires including the strange and frightening Monica, and of course some of the top werewolves. It made me realise just how many different people we’ve met in the course of the series, ,and how much many of them, including Secret, have changed as the years have passed.
As susual the danger is real, solid and scary,and Secret needs all her skills and the backing of her gang to come through. There’s losses, I won’t say who but yes, it made me cry. Its really emotional at times with secret facing a horrific choice. The story in this part is full of the usual well written and played out drama, and the loose ends and snippets brought in from earlier books all tie togehter.
Stars: Five, a fantastic and satisfying finish, that answers so many queries brought up during the series.

I 'inhaled' this book in one sitting last night and I still don't know what to make of it. There were bits I loved and bits I hated. So I'm going to try and review this without giving big fat spoilers for those who haven't read it yet.
So to start with what I didn't like so I can end on the many positives. Firstly I felt the big bad wasn't as bad as we were expecting at all (Secret has dealt with far worse in my opinion). The fall out in New York as a whole felt a little unrealistic as it involved the 'normals' of which there was NO sign at all. How did the big bad get all the power to go down? Secondly I didn't quite understand why things ended with Secret as they did. So many different supernatural factions had an interest in her, whether it be respect, fear or want for themselves how she then went out with a sort of fizzle. The deal she made with Aubrey was a brave one and I sort of saw where it was going, but why would he do that? I don't understand if he was so interested in her. Lastly the ending itself, I felt although Secret ended up with her happy ever after, it felt a bit flat and melodramatic.
That being said there was an awful lot to like, it was as ever, outright funny. Secret has a sense of humour that is brilliant and none of her character or appeal was lost at all. The supporting cast was as ever superb, true to form and what is great for the finale we got to hear from everyone, no matter how small the part they all popped up and took their part. Lucas was truly brilliant, superbly well written and I have never been through so many different emotions for one character in a series as for him. I loved him in this, he redeemed every quality 100%. The love triangle stayed a little complex emotionally but Secret stayed true to herself and whilst I had a different favourite than the one she picked, I recognised that she picked the right one for her, especially under the final circumstances. I just felt so terribly terribly sorry for the poor man left standing. If there were to be a series starring him I would definitely be there! The story moved along at a brilliant pace and it took me through every emotion, I cried a lot! It was classy and the characters were more than loveable.
The fact that I liked this a little less than some of the others in this series in no ways detracts from the fact that it is a superb first class 5 star series. We can't all agree with the same ending can we? I wanted to love this, I really did. As a long-time fan of the series, I was eager to see Secret and some other loved characters get their HEA. Well, there is a nice HEA (for some), but there were so many things in the story that made no freakin' sense that they spoiled things for me.

I put off reading this book for a while because I was afraid of how the series would end. Yes, it’s emotional at times and frustrating at others, but it’s still an excellent Secret McQueen read and delivers everything you’d want in the final installment.
First, there are no loose ends. Everything I wanted answered has been answered. All decisions that needed to be made were made (although sometimes in Secret’s frustrating way). Oh, and there’s even a nice little happily ever after for the fans. This book picks up where we were shockingly left off in the previous one. There are zombies (or “risen” as they are named by Keaty) and they have taken over New York. The city is burning and there are very few people still roaming around that aren’t bad guys or “risen.” Secret, with her band of misfit supernaturals has somehow been tasked with saving the city from total annihilation (of course). There are a lot of things that needed to get done in this book and while I was worried about the final resolution, they all managed to get checked off the list.
First, Secret’s secret is … not so secret anymore. Just about everyone knows she’s half vampire/half werewolf and the repercussions have to be dealt with. Through some magical end of the world/last book of the series turnaround, Lucas is backing Secret in her reveal. Sig, being our favorite, lovable vampire, has backed a sneaky plan to help Secret handle the vampires (and tie up all the loose ends with the Arturo storyline). That just leaves the romantic love triangle-ish situation that Secret is still kind of in, even after she became engaged (has that stopped her before?). While there is a definite decision made, I still feel like things were left in typical Secret fashion with some hurt feelings and unresolved issues. I guess that’s the best we can hope for in this messed up situation. All in all, I laughed, I cried (a little), but it was well worth the wonderful ride. Yes, people died. Yes, it was sad and frustrating, but it was a really fun read nonetheless.
First, there are no loose ends. Everything I wanted answered has been answered. All decisions that needed to be made were made (although sometimes in Secret’s frustrating way). Oh, and there’s even a nice little happily ever after for the fans. This book picks up where we were shockingly left off in the previous one. There are zombies (or “risen” as they are named by Keaty) and they have taken over New York. The city is burning and there are very few people still roaming around that aren’t bad guys or “risen.” Secret, with her band of misfit supernaturals has somehow been tasked with saving the city from total annihilation (of course). There are a lot of things that needed to get done in this book and while I was worried about the final resolution, they all managed to get checked off the list.
First, Secret’s secret is … not so secret anymore. Just about everyone knows she’s half vampire/half werewolf and the repercussions have to be dealt with. Through some magical end of the world/last book of the series turnaround, Lucas is backing Secret in her reveal. Sig, being our favorite, lovable vampire, has backed a sneaky plan to help Secret handle the vampires (and tie up all the loose ends with the Arturo storyline). That just leaves the romantic love triangle-ish situation that Secret is still kind of in, even after she became engaged (has that stopped her before?). While there is a definite decision made, I still feel like things were left in typical Secret fashion with some hurt feelings and unresolved issues.
