Masterfully written, building tension with every chapter

From the first chapter I knew author Jerry Furnell is the real deal. This book is masterfully crafted and written, with the tension and action peaking just at the right times. An absolute page turner. Camilla Lee is a strong female character. You can’t help but admire her courage and tenacity after all she goes through. But revenge is sweet. You’ll be drawn into her journey. Highly recommend for fans of cutting edge thrillers. A definite 5 star from me.

UNLEASHING THE TIGER is a complex novel that resonates in readers’ minds way after we finish reading it. At least, this was my case. I found myself reflecting about the topics the book discusses and thinking about my life. I think the most important ingredient in this novel are the characters. They are believable and very well constructed.
The story narrates the difficult life of an adolescent who survives a home invasion where both of her parents die. The book is electrifying and moving. It combines moments of tension, cruelty, anger and violence. However, it also portrays a story of realization and improvement, of life changes and inner force. I really liked this book and I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

UNLEASHING THE TIGER is an assassination thriller and the first installment in the Camilla Lee series.
In my view, this author writes dialogues very well and the story is written at an entertaining pace to keep the reader interested in the many twisted events, dark moments, emotions, drama and murder events. Furnell seems to have put a lot of thought into this first book and this extraordinary story has many twists and turns that kept my interest. The dialogues were perfectly written, so much so that the events kept me guessing what would happen next and, let me confess, I was always wrong.
This narrative has a rich story, one that would not disappoint any type of reader.

Jerry Furnell is the author of a saga called The Camilla Lee Series and its first book is named Unleashing The Tiger. Camilla is a normal kid and everything is going smoothly until she becomes the survivor of a home invasion where her parents die. Dealing with trauma is never easy but it can be especially hard when you become the clown of your school. Camilla is determined to find out why and who did this while fighting the depression that this awful situation brings.
This book is the type of story that marks you for life. Furnell does a great job putting into words the pain and sorrow Camila feels yet he portrays her not as a victim but as heroin and that was interesting to see. The story overall is solid and has a lot to analyze. I really enjoyed it and I am on my way to reading the second part!

A good thriller

“Unleashing the Tiger” is a good thriller written by Jerry Furnell.

The novel, which lasts for nearly four hundred pages, starts with a crime which leaves main character Camilla Lee an orphan. Far from being a weak girl, Camilla earns her main role by fighting for the truth. Her struggles are real and difficult to face, of course, but she discovers secrets that will keep on changing her life.

This novel is worth reading mainly because of the strength and courage of the main character, which is inspiring and contagious. As regards the plot, I would have made several changes to some parts but it made a good reading.

I give it three stars.

A fast paced, non-stop action thriller that will keep you turning the pages. A heroine who would give Jack Reacher a serious run for his money, but they would most likely be on the same side. Well worth reading.

An Aussie teen girl kung fu expert hits the vengeance trail when her parents are killed.

The Australian setting makes it different than most martial arts thrillers.

Not enough combat, too much teen sex. And really not plausible. This teenager is willing to take on gangs with no plan on how and somehow manages to survive.

I don’t subscribe to the belief that authors need to be the same sex, race, religion or whatever as their characters. A good author can put you inside the head of their heroine, even if they’re a different species, an extra-terrestrial, or whatever. But there needs to be an authenticity of voice for it to work. This is where, for example, Quentin Tarantino fails for me: his characters almost always end up sounding like Quentin Tarantino. And I wrote that before noticing the blurb on Amazon actually says, “Jerry Furnell exudes a Quentin Tarantino vibe in his narrative.” That’s meant as an incentive; I’d have taken it as a warning.
