Bloomsbury presents… Hero Wanted! by Mark Powers read by Eva Feiler.
Grace is woken in the middle of the night to the sound of an armoured horse in her back garden. The next thing she knows, a dying Grace doppelganger bursts through her bedroom door and insists that she is the fifteenth and final Grace, and it is her destiny to win the Worthy War.
Grace's quest takes her to the county of Brokenshire, where she must work with her trusty steed (who has a sharp tongue and a habit of reminding Grace of all the ghastly ends her predecessors have met!) to battle magical creatures and save the world.
A vegan T. rex, a distinguished dodo, bomber geese and the fearsome trigger wolf are amongst the cast of memorable characters Grace meets on her adventure.
***** ‘Pratchett meets Dr Who, in a tale worthy of the legends of Camelot! This stonkingly ridonkulous adventure had me in stitches from start to finish, but the real power lies in its message of empathy and understanding. An absolute corker!’ Chrissie Sains, author of An Alien in the Jam Factory series
‘An adventure EVERYONE needs to embark on! THESE ARE REAL HEROES!’ Rikin Parekh, illustrator of Iguana Boy and The Worst Class in the World series
Grace Parker, an ordinary girl often looked down on and compared to her brother James. One night, she was summoned to become a saviour in a world called Brokenshire. Guilt by her mistake of breaking her brother's guitar, Grace agreed to take up the challenge of going with the accompany of Wellingtonia, a talking horse!

My reading was a bit dragged maybe because the story is about war between the Worthy War of two groups, People of The Day (PoTD) and People of The Night (PoTN) in Brokenshire. People here consist of humans, goblins, and animals. I'm quite shocked to find this pretty cover and cute illustrations bring a heavy theme.
I started to get invested in the last ⅓ of the story where the pace gets quicker. There are a lot of witty characters which divert and slow down Grace's journey to win the war. The scariest villain must be the Rubefaction Chick, cute but highly toxic!
As a middle-grade book, the storyline subtly tells about war. The cause could be misunderstandings or people taking opportunities out of war. In real life, it can get even more horrible. Grace has logical and quick thinking which I think is her strength. It is a journey to appreciate the things she's taken for granted all this while.

I'd start to think that children should be in the council of peace, they are pure and hardly understand why war is necessary and why their friends of the same age must be the victims. You should read to the end to find the cause of this hatred and unworthy Worth War.
Thank you #Pansing for this copy. This book is available at all good bookstores. Do enjoy the unexpected creatures from the creative mind of Mark Powers creatively illustrated by Coralie Muce.
I almost didn't pick this book up. While I read a lot of MG/YA, the cover made this story seem way too young for me. I loved the idea of a talking horse and other elements of the story though, so I gave it a try.
The book was full of humor, but that humor didn't work for me (I think I was too old for it). I made it to about the 25% mark before I decided to DNF.
A different style of book for me. I did enjoy going in to the world of Brokenshire. I loved meeting all of the different characters. I wasn’t 100% sold on the ending but overall a good read.
