Chloe is not happy. Why must she be carted off to spend two weeks of her precious vacation in an ancient house with her grandmother Crystal, when there are so many fun things she could be doing with her friends?
She is forbidden to go up in the attic, but so what? Chloe is going up there, whatever her grandma says.
Among the ancient treasures in the attic, Chloe finds an old journal. It's not long before she is caught up in the story of Crystal and Matt as they try to reunite the restless spirit of a young girl with her father. To do that, they had followed the clues to find the enchanted carousel with the help of some unusual characters.
She is entranced by the enchanting tale, but is it a story, or can it possibly be true?
Chloe will soon find out. And along the way, she will learn something about the magic of friendship and the bonds of family love.
Pouting twelve year old Chloe stuck for two weekends in an old. stately , antebellum house with her grandmother Crystal , whom she hardly knew. No TV , computer and terrible cell reception. She wanted to be home with her friends , having fun. Still pouting, she took the key to the forbidden attic where she found her grandmother's journal. While reading, she is swept up in her grandmother's adventures in finding the Enchanted Carousel. A bit of the paranormal, friends danger and the spirit realm . The pouting stopped, and wanting to be close to her grandmother and to know her better surfaced. At the end of the two weeks Chloe was looking forward to a return visit for more time and stories with her precious grandmother Crystal. The author's word visuals are extraordinary! Like Chloe, i was also swept up in this delightful adventure and the warmth of family bonding.
By Connie Hill What a wonderful story throughout this book!! I was drawn into it from the beginning as I had a great grandmother with a wonderful attic full of treasures just like Chloe, but I certainly didn't find the fascinating things that Chloe did. Shari Penny weaves a terrific tale of intrigue and mystery that keeps the reader wanting to find the answers throughout the book. It's a great story to share with older children and grandchildren.
Loved reading this debut book by new author Shari Penny. An absorbing story from start to finish, every page a fascinating piece of a fantasy jigsaw. Would love to see it adapted into a movie. Great storytelling, charming and delightfully put together. Felt like I was part of an adventure shared by a friend. Can't wait for her second book. Highly recommend.
Thank you to everyone who has read my book and has reviewed it. I'm currently immersed in writing the second one, and look forward to your comments on it some time next year.
This is a riveting story that oscillates between generations in a smooth, inter-related way that keeps one's attention and encourages one to continue to the next chapter. Because it is centered around two 11-year-old girls, I think it would be best enjoyed by girls around that age. Shari is a talented writer and I will look forward to reading her next book.
I really loved this book. I really enjoyed that the Author describes everything like Hemingway even down to the smallest detail. I highly recommend this book Laurie Desantis
The best book I've ever read to my daughter. It is so lovely, adventurous and my daughter can relate to the main character, Chloe. (Me too, to be honest) . Absolutely a number one book to read!
