As a fan of Porn Land by Kevin, I've been really looking forward to more from him, and I wasn't disappointed! This was a really fun, bonkers story that I couldn't put down!
It's 2001, we're on a plane with Russell Brand, Kurt Russell and Keri Russell. There's a storm brewing outside, there's a huge bright light, and then, there's the inevitable crash!!
Only the Russell's survive, and they are found and welcomed by giant land squid…of course they are, what else? But they soon find out that in the area they have landed, humans have been extinct for hundreds of thousands of years, so where did they all go and just how and why did the Russells end up here?
It comes to light that the squid are at war with the dinosaurs, and want the humans to don special ninja battle suits to help to defeat them, claim their planet back and then send the humans back to their time. The Russells end up caught in the middle and need to do some quick thinking to help them to escape. Just as the Russells master the suits however, they are propositioned by the dinosaurs!!
Just who is fighting who? And what happens when the Kelly's join the Russell's? Absolute mayhem and carnage, that's what!
This was so much fun, ethereal, beautiful, dream-like in places, and weirdly sexual and hilarious in others! A gripping fast-paced space ride through Kevins awesomely quirky mind! 💜
He also got Russell Brand's character down pat, so, love him or hate him, he's there in all his glory….quite literally at times! 😂

Kevin Shamel is not a new name in the bizarro scene. I recently read Porn Land, or as I have dubbed it, Phil and Zed’s Sexcellent Adventure. I loved it. It was pure fun and totally bonkers. Shamel set the bar for absurdity ridiculously high and after reading Russells in Time, I am convinced this man sets that bar at a level only he can surpass.
Let’s talk about the premise of this book. It is called Russells in Time: Land Squid vs Dinosaurs and the title is a mini synopsis. The Russells (Kurt, Keri, and Brand) are transported forward to a time when giant technologically advanced land squids rule the earth and are at war with even more technologically advanced dinosaurs. The squiddies want the Russells to fight on their behalf using some ancient combat suits that apparently can only be activated and controlled by the long extinct humans, hence the time travel. They tell the Russells one version of events and the dinosaurs tell them another. All Kurt and Keri want to do is find a way to get back home. Brand doesn’t care one way or the other, the whole thing is one big joke to him. When it becomes clear that the Russells aren’t playing by the rules, new players enter the game and all hell breaks loose.
Which side is telling the truth? Who wins this war? Do the Russells ever get home? You’ll have to read it to find out.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. I love the wacky premise. The whole thing is absurd and totally hilarious. The Russell Brand character was a perfect caricature of the real Russell Brand. All of the celebrity jokes and references were on point. This book is super fun.

The first page of this really confused me so it looks like someone did their time travel research.
Obviously to start with this was ridiculously hilarious and if you know anything about Russell Brand I think they got every single joke in about him you could do.
What can I say about warring squid and dinosaurs in the future that you can’t fill out with your own imagination.
This was a silly, crazy story that puts a strange smile on your face.
