When it comes to business, Mr. Black Los Angeles, Dante Powell believes in planning down to the smallest detail, and that includes the Juneteenth festival he's spearheading. His personal life is another matter, however. He lives by one simple rule—no strings, only flings. But he didn't count on the one night of explosive passion he shared with Jayana Cole or seeing her again.
A one-night stand. That's all it was supposed to be. Now, Jayana isn't sure it's all she wants. Yet mixing business with pleasure could put her job in jeopardy. But Dante is a temptation she can't resist, and she intends to show the die-hard bachelor that some rules are meant to be broken, and she's his right now...and forever.
Sheryl Lister has enjoyed reading and writing for as long as she can remember. She writes contemporary and inspirational romance and romantic suspense. She been nominated for an Emma Award and RT Reviewer’s Choice Award and named BRAB’s 2015 Best New Author. When she’s not reading, writing or playing chauffeur, Sheryl can be found on a date with her husband or in the kitchen creating appetizers and bite-sized desserts.
Dante & Jayana had a great one night stand turned love story! The things that plagued Dante due to that raggedy ex-girlfriend of his was a lot & Jayana loved him through it! That to me is the epitome of black love!
This book definitely shed light on Juneteenth, the history, & some of the ways they celebrate in LA. However, I feel that this book focused more on the black love aspect.! I know we need to get the history behind Juneteenth, but we also want to know about how these specific people got their “Baes,” since that’s the name of the series 😂. I enjoyed this book way more then the first, even though, the ending was super predictable.!
4 stars I loved the focus on Juneteenth and mental health rep at the end. I just wanted a little more relationship development/more showing rather than telling how they fell in love with each other. For me, it kinda came out of nowhere when they started dropping the L word. (Also the 3rd person pov isn’t my favorite and kinda threw me off a few times.)
3.75⭐ I wasn't fully invested into this one, but I still enjoyed it, and it started off strong. I love when an encounter between the characters starts as a one-night stand and come to find out they are going to work together.
This one follows Mr. Black Los Angeles Dante, who runs a community youth center. After his last relationship fell apart, he vowed to never get attached to another female, just hit it and quit it. A one-night stand with Jayana after a flight delay, was supposed to be a one-time never see you again, but few weeks later Jayana is the new counselor at the center.
Loved how the series continue to educate about Juneteenth without overshadowing the love story. I will say it felt like they fell in love so fast especially since the MMC was so hesitant to. I blinked and they were at I love you etc. I wanted more of how they got there. Loved the mental health rep and how Jayana allowed him to be vulnerable and work through his feelings.
Humor, tragedy, romance, history, drama, and sizzle, this story had it all. I liked that Jayana and Dante were an older couple. Their communication and interaction with each other though playful, was mature and respectful. The main female characters were all accomplished and not afraid to speak their truth or shoot their shoot .
Dante had a"hit it and get out "motto. However, on a trip from Dallas, his life changed The new counselor for his center is Jayna. He never thought he would see her again. He knew she was different from all the others. Jayna recognized her lover and knew she could fall fast for him. Dante had thought because of an incident from his past he couldn't love again. However Jayna turned his life upside down. Great read with fun and heat.
I loved Dante and Jayana. So what they started off as a freaky one night stand and vowed to never see each other again. Then Jayana walks in to her meeting to meet her new co workers and boss and there stands Dante. The one night stand that occupied her thoughts. Wheww! Lol I love how each book really immerses you in the glory that is the Juneteenth holiday. Enjoy
Mr Right Now was Right on time. The Juneteenth references did not overshadow the story. The love story part flowed into the storyline seamlessly. I enjoyed meeting this couple.
This story was cute and sweet. I loved that there was a highlight about mental health and it’s importance as well as the brief history of the Juneteenth holiday. This couple was cute together and I enjoyed reading about their love and journey to happily ever after.
So far out of all the books so far, this was the fastest falling in love story so far. It has also been the most emotional for me. I almost cried when Dante was telling Jayana what happened to his father.
Dante and Jayana’s chance meeting at the airport turned into a HEA. Loved the Juneteenth celebration and the proposal. Mr. Right Now was right on. ❤️❤️❤️
This was real cute! I loved learning more about the history of Juneteenth. But let’s talk about the magnetic energy between Dante and Jayana because let’s be real that’s what I’m here for! 😂 Their one night stand left both of them wanting MORE, and when I say more I mean sex lol. Dante finds himself thinking about Jayana way too often while still battling the trauma from his last serious relationship. I love the emphasis on the importance of mental health for Black men. & absolutely loved how Jayana stayed ten toes down while Dante worked through his trauma. I know this book was always meant to be a novella but I found myself wanting to see more of their chemistry and love story.

Dante - Mr Right Now is also Mr Black LA and a very busy man who has a tech company and a youth organization that he runs. He’s gearing up for his Juneteenth community celebration and is on a mission to educate, inspire and support the youth in the community. He is a man that values family and friendship but relationships are not in his plans. He is a one time only kind of man hence his Mr Right Now title, no feelings no nothing - which also begs the question of who hurt you? Jayanna is a beautiful therapist who newly relocated from Atlanta to LA for a new start away after a bad relationship. She loves the kids and is excited to live in the area that her best friend resides. These two had a right now night while on a layover in Dallas and thought that was it. As fate would have it, Jayanna’s new LA job is at Dante’s youth facility. Sparks fly, chemistry is combustible and Mr Right Now is breaking his rule but can he let go and open his heart. Jayanna is all in and letting him set the pace. I enjoyed this book in the Baes of Juneteenth series so much. It was well paced, well balanced with the theme and the romance, the characters were believable and their interaction was realistic. Very well written and Juneteenth and community was well represented. Another book in the series that I enjoyed - I didn’t enjoy all of them.
Besides giving her readers an opportunity to learn about the Federal holiday, Juneteenth, Sheryl Lister also gives us a wonderful contemporary love story. MR. RIGHT NOW, the first released Baes of Juneteenth book features Dante Powell, Mr. Black Los Angeles and Jayana Cole, Counselor. Jayana and Dante engage in a steamy , hot, brief sexual encounter and go their separate ways thinking that it was what it was—Right now and over. Well, surprise, surprise when they meet again at Impressions 2, a community and youth center that Dante runs in LA. Their love journey is just one aspect of this entertaining story. The other stand out storyline plot is the emphasis on educating everyone about Juneteenth: what it means and how it came about. MR. RIGHT NOW is what I call an edu-taining story. It entertains and educates. This book is the first in a series of 11 books by some of the most talented and bright stars of Contemporary Romance. I am looking forward to reading them all. In the meantime, you can start with MR. RIGHT NOW. I recommend it for your reading pleasure. It’s a wonderful love story and a great way to learn about the newest Federal holiday, Juneteenth. You can thank me later!
I can honestly say that this story had me intrigued just from the title alone... I mean who wouldn't want to read about a man named Mr. Right Now??? Dante Powell was a man who only had 3 things on his mind.. his tech company, his Youth Center Impressions 2, and putting together an awesome Juneteenth Celebration for the city he represents Los Angeles. Matters of the heart was no where on the list; especially after what happened years prior. However, Jayna Cole didn't receive that memo. After their run in weeks prior neither expected to ever see each other again because what they shared was supposed to be a one time thing. When they are brought together again during the planning of the Juneteenth Celebration, they soon realize that what they feel for each other goes beyond Right Now, they can have a lifetime together if only Dante can let go of his past hurt and embrace the future that's staring him in the face. I absolutely loved Dante and Jayna's story and I can't wait to read the other books in this amazing series!!!
What a beautiful tribute to our historical knowledge!
Dante Mr. Black L.A. also head of a successful tech firm and an engineer was also CEO of an inner city center geared to giving Black and Brown children opportunities the school system and society refused to accord them! A chance encounter with a beautiful sister Jayana led to an impromptu encounter he termed "right now" morphed into a great love when that beautiful woman turned out to be the loving new Psychologist just hired for the center. The backdrop for all of this love was the desire to connect our people especially our children with parts of our history just recently being revealed more and more! In each of these Anthologies more of our hidden history is shared thus allowing us to see past the abbreviated history schools tend to squeeze into Black History month! Thank you too Sheryl Lister for being a part of educating some and reminding others that our history is far richer than being former enslaved people! On to the next in this anthology and I am looking forward to the read!!!!!
I loved everything about this book. This author has a wonderful and expressive way with words. Dante and Jayana's love journey was such an amazing read. Right from the beginning you know this couple has fire for each other. But Dante had a bad experience with an ex that forced him to any away from love and relationships. But meeting Jayana changed his narrative. I cannot find a single negative thing to say about this book. I loved how positive and inclusive the author was educating children about the history of Juneteenth and the emancipation of black slaves. I highly recommend this book. And if the rest of this series is like this, then I will definitely be buying the rest of the books.
Mr. Right Now…Dante Powell…Giving Love Another Chance With Jayana Cole 💞
This was a short but potent story of instant attraction and the journey to make it more! Incorporated in this was the teaching of Juneteenth and serious topics of addressing mental health and encouraging and uplifting our youth!
This is the second book in this series and I’m telling you, it’s only going to get better with each story! I’m enjoying learning about the different aspects of Juneteenth throughout the different cities while indulging in some loving situations along the way! I highly recommend reading this story and series!! Kudos, Sheryl!! 💜
Strong, smart, engaging, substantive, and loving characters. Good character development wuth a great backstory. The educational knowledge of LA Black history and Juneteenth was excellent and woved exceptional well into the story and not just as an elemental background. The auxiliary characters were each delightful and rich. The relationship was spicy, sweet and realistic. The spicy scenes were hot 🔥 and flowed nicely into the story. I loved the chemistry between Dante and Jayana but also the friendship they built. I truly enjoyed this book and this author. This was a phenomenal read 📚 👏🏾 ✨️🥰❣️
This was a sweet romance. I liked both Dante and Jayana. I appreciated that this book was not full of drama. I enjoyed the history of both LA and Juneteenth. I liked the overall positivity of the book. I loved the support for black men and therapy, the overall mental health shoutout.
It can't honestly remember if Dante and Jayana's first encounter was detailed. If it was, it wasn't memorable to me. If it wasn't, I was it had been.
I was surprised about the details of Dante's last relationship. That was an unexpected twist. 3.5 stars.
The book was a quick read/listen with good narration.
Mr. Right Now by Sheryl Lister is a contemporary romance that blends workplace tension with chemistry between the main characters. The story follows Dante Powell—an ambitious engineer known as Mr. Black Los Angeles—and Jayana Cole, whose unexpected professional connection turns an already complicated attraction into something deeper. I enjoyed how Lister layered the romance with unique character touches, from Jayana’s love of Legos to Dante’s building and collecting custom model cars. The couple attempts to keep things professional, but their connection naturally grows. The focus on Juneteenth, an important historical event, added depth to the story. I enjoyed this novella.
When I tell you I love this couple yessssss ever thing about this story was amazing 👏🏾beautifully written and had it talked about black men mental health and building communities in your neighborhood 🙌🏽👏🏾❤juneneeth was well explained 👏🏾dante was definitely book bae ❤💙yesssss ❤him and janyana was beautiful connection and the chemistry was off the chain 😍😍😍😍 I laughed cried shouted one of my favorite ❤ loved it loving this series ❤
Dante and Jayanna started our hot and heavy when they first met! It was a shocker when they found out that she would be working for him at the youth center! Dante was afraid of getting involved with another woman, but the sparks were already there for him and Jayanna! They were made for each other. It seems that everyone knew it but him. I’m loving this Baes of Juneteenth series! Thank you Sheryl Lister!! On to the next one! ❤️🔥
Yes, honey! As always, Ms. Sheryl Lister never disappoints. I love her writing style and the way she makes her characters seem like you really know them. Dante was serious about not letting love in. However, when the right woman or man enters your space, love will knock you right on your ass.
What a wonderful love story. Dante and Jayana chemistry and personality just messed. They had so much in common and loved helping children. Dante has to get rid of some guilt, but once he opened his heart to love Jayana, it was simply beautiful. Kudos to Sheryl Lister on writing an amazing story.
Excellent read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Dante and Jayana are a great match. Dante was cautious due to a past relationship, Jayana’s genuine optimistic and outgoing personality is what he needed. This is their journey to love in the midst of preparation of the Juneteenth celebrations.
This was a love story about Hahaha Cole and Dante Powell. They met about six months ago at an airport layover for a one night stand. Later he realizes she's the new hire for his non profit ad a therapist. Both were shocked they knew of race other and tried to fight the attraction until love would the denied that led to happily ever after.
When you read books about romance you never really expect to be educated. This book provided so much information on June teenth and inspired me to like for more. Sometimes we hurt because what we wanted didn’t work in all that time it wasn’t in the will of God. He always has something better in store.
A must read Dante and Jayana loved the way they loved the kids and explained the meaning of Juneteenth. Having the gala for the kids and parents was awesome. How the Black own business provided formal wear for the kids and their parents. I loved that the two got married and had a daughter of their own.
