Eudora Welty: Eye of the Storyteller

Rate this book
The essays collected in this volume examine the range of Welty's talent. Originally prepared for the Eye of the Storyeller Conference on Eudora Welty held at the University of Akron, 17-19 September 1987, these essays bring together work by some of the Welty scholars writing today. The originating idea of the conference was power - a topic not often linked to Welty. But power, subtle and overt, demonstrated by technique and vision, is central to most of the analyses. Some critics elected to treat technical manifestations of power as revealed through Welty's experiments in voice and style. Others chose to view power as it is exercised in communities or by the individual in conflict with that community.
