Rate this book
Miranda doesn’t let life happen to her—so she’s going to chase after what she wants.

And she wants Cyrus.

The former Las Vegas showgirl leaves everything she knows behind for a teaching career outside of Boston. She couldn't escape the desert's thirst that arrived with her in the form of her rugged bear of a New England neighbor, Cyrus McManus. The dancer didn't expect her chase would turn into a dalliance with the commanding older man who has a knack for knowing what she craves before she does!

Although it’s been a decade since his wife died, Cyrus is still coping with grief in the only way he knows by focusing on fatherhood and his writing career. He didn't expect his neighbor to be a bratty 24 year old woman who catches him off guard with her flirtatious persistence. He struggles to resist her offers for no-strings, kinky shenanigans with the headstrong woman submitting to him.

Will a holiday fling be enough to satisfy either of them or will the season turn their carnal wants into uncharted feelings and change everything?

This was not for me!

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book. I sometimes like to go into books completely blind and not knowing even the synopsis. Unfortunately, this time that worked against me because I had no idea that this was a daddy kink book (my fault I guess for not reading the synopsis). I personally don’t really like those books. However, sometimes they surprise me. Ultimately even though I have my personal tastes in tropes and books, I genuinely believe I could enjoy any trope, if written well. In this case, if a Dady kink book is written in a specific way, aka, not that creepy, I can sometimes stomach it. Unfortunately, Miranda and Cyrus’ relationship felt creepy. He mentions a lot how she’s a “lil girl” and how close in age to his actual kids she is. This felt icky to me and just I couldn’t get into it. There a lot more than that that made it feel icky but I can’t get into it too much because I’m not going back to the book to pull up quotes.

Additionally, I feel like their relationship progression was rushed. They go from being intimate twice, not really spending too much time actually getting to know each other, and all of a sudden, Miranda informs her friends she’s catching “feels” for Cyrus. I just don’t buy it. It’s almost like a case of telling us rather than showing us through genuine dialogue and built up connection. This makes even less sense given this book ends on a cliffhanger. If the author was going continue on the story, they should have spent more time writing more genuine dialogue instead of trying to convince us (the readers) that after a few days the woman that supposedly never catches feelings for any men in her past, has all of a sudden caught feelings for this man given he literally did nothing special to warrant her new found feelings. I just don’t buy it.

Overall, I felt like the characters had no chemistry. Plus, the writing was confusing at times. Cyrus writes a blog (I think it’s supposed to be a blog) and each chapter begins with an except of this. However, what he writes has no relevance to what is actually going on in the story so why put it in there? There were also other writing choices that confused me. I’m not going to go into more detail about what else about the writing confused me because it’s hard to describe without filling this review with extremely large quantities of quotes, and frankly, I don’t care enough; I’ve already spent so much time and energy writing this in depth review for a book I didn’t really enjoy. So that’s it! Not my thing!

Now unto the (one) positive. One thing I did enjoy was the narration. This was narrated by Jesca Goode. She did amazing (minus the awkward singing). That’s what got me through the story or I would have DNFed earlier.

I loved the narration of Jesca Goode, who brings out the humour, angst, characters, emotions and the heat. Making this a great listen.

Cyrus is a widower with 16-year-old twins, an author with his own blog where he gives parenting tips. His new neighbour Miranda is a young woman, who seems to want to know him. In every way possible.

Miranda, is woman with a a free-spirited. At the age of 24-year she enjoys relationships with older men. Finding security in older men. When she sees Cyrus she works hard to get him interested in a one night stand.

Both have demons and pasts that follow them. But when the two of them get together it is hot and steamy. Brilliant second characters.

I admit I am the worst when it comes to doing my research before starting a series. Silly me, I thought that this was a standalone within in a long series that takes place during the winter months. Nope, it is a continuation which would have been nice to know before I screamed "WHAT" on the very last page of this book.

Note to Jess: do your research babe.

Not going to lie, Miranda took some warming up to. At first, she was even getting on my nerves with how hard she was going at Cyrus. Then again, I can't really blame the girl. The man is a fox. As the story progressed though I started to see why she was the way she was to a point. Granted, I don't know much about her story yet, but I do get where she is coming from. She's just going after what she wants.

Cyrus on the other hand, I loved immediately. How could I not? One thing I am starting to notice in B.E. Wolf's books is that his MC's will get me every single time. He too is wound up but in a much different way than Miranda. He doesn't have the luxury of putting all of his focus into her because he has two kids to care for.

This book did not go at all how I expected it too and I loved it! The thing is, I am already entirely invested on where this is going, and I have barely begun the journey in Miranda and Cyrus's story. Know what that means right? I am going right into book two!!!

When I saw that this is set in (really near) Boston, I was sold!
Unfortunately, this author favors telling over showing, so the writing style isn’t for me. Initially, it almost captured my interest, as I liked the setting and the characters … and the banter was good.

However, there are some major issues with the writing. In addition to the lack of showing, there’s no character development, but actually the opposite. There’s no plot really, it’s straight erotica, though I missed that from reading the blurb, as at least at the time of this review it promises a plot. A woman changing careers, etc. It also says the male lead “struggles to resist” her, though he honestly doesn’t even try to. It’s a bit mis-leading, but hey! I guess I should’ve read the reviews. (I tend to not let them influence my purchases.)

There are some popular tropes in this book (listed below), so while it wasn’t for me, it may well be for you.

🏙️ Set in Boston.
❄️ Fresh start vibes.
🏙️ D4ddy k!nk (had this been disclosed prior to downloading, I’d have skipped it).
❄️ Female lead who doesn’t name ‘no’ for an answer.
🏙️ Single dad.
❄️ Neighbors-to-lovers.
🏙️ Witty banter.

Overall:
Not for me, 2 stars.

Audio:
The narrator has a pleasant enough voice—for reading. She should never, ever sing and those bits were physically painful to hear.
And her Boston accent was … not bad, per se, but exaggerated might be a good word. Grew up / lived there most of my life and … some of it sounded natural while other parts sound forced.

3-star narration.
Overall production is good—clean sound quality, so 5 stars on that front.

Cyprus is a widowed father of 16 year old twins. He is an author, works from home, and a bit introverted. He lives in a part of town that tends to be quiet and uneventful. Miranda moves in next door, and she is an energetic, vivacious women. She was a dancer, turned school teacher. (What a career move.) She is only 24, but prefers relationships with more mature men. It is sweet and sometimes funny watching their relationship develop. The narration was well done. I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I enjoyed the book. There was some borderline non- consensual stuff which gave me pause (and the reason for the 4 stars vs 5). I hope Miranda is more developed in the next book, as she felt a lite 2 dimensional, but Cyrus was very well developed.

wow talk about a SUPER HOT and Sexy read, definetly not a NSFW read. this book shows the start of this sexy affair. Cyrus - the widowed dad of twin 16 year olds meets Miranda the 22 yr old with daddy issues and shows the effort she puts in to get some sexy time with Cyrus. She is a girl who knows who and what she wants,
I would recommend this

I enjoyed the cautious pace of Cyrus with women but figured due to his twin teenagers This is the first book I’ve read by the author and can’t wait to read more.
