I have been so excited for Dead Sound to come into the world! I have been a big fan of Anise Eden's since she first published her Healing Edge series, and this book swept me away just as easily. I had the pleasure of reading an early version and was completely drawn in by the great characters, the unique plot and the intrigue.
The book begins as Neve, a mental health social worker, returns to work after being on leave. However, what she returns to is nothing short of astounding. A group of mental health patients encircle her and seem to be worshipping her. The leader of the patients informs her that an angel has told him Neve must foil a plan that has sinister, worldwide repercussions, and that it could threaten the President.
With the help of dishy Irish doctor Cornelius (whom Neve secretly loves) and a noble hacker, Neve has to decipher the strange messages.
The author has done such a terrific job of combining an ominous sort of tension with humour and a bit of romance. The plotline feels unique and fresh. Neve and Cornelius' romance is lovely and sweet, and full of secret mutual pining.
It's a wonderful start to an exciting new series, and I can't wait for book 2! I heartily recommend this suspenseful read!
Note: I am friends with the author, but have provided my thoughts here voluntarily and honestly.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I was on the lookout for something different to satisfy my literary appetite, and the premise for Dead Sound captured my attention. It is the first book in The Things Unseen series, and it sends readers on a journey filled with suspense, political intrigue served with a dash of romance.

The story introduces psychotherapist Névé Keane and her best friend, Doctor Cornelius O’Brien. The story begins with Névé returning to work from medical leave. However, her first day back at work came with an unexpected and bizarre event. At the centre of this event was Amos, a mutual patient of Névé and Cornelius. On learning of their patient’s role and the trigger for the bizarre event, they automatically assumed an increase in episodes of delusions. However, his awakening from a mysterious coma and the provision of information he couldn’t possibly know had Névé re-thinking her evaluation. This decision led to her getting caught up in a web of intrigue and danger.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into this story. This was my first experience with the author’s work. However, the moment I began reading, I knew I was in for a treat. Intrigue lined every page of Dead Sound. The story held me in its grip, and soon it had me flipping the pages.

Neve and Cornelius were wonderful characters. Névé is resilient despite suffering from anxiety stemming from past traumas. She maintained her wits in the face of danger. Having Cornelius as a backup aided in this area. I loved how he stepped up to protect her. Of course, it helped that he was in love with her. A fact he never revealed until danger started dogging their doorsteps. Given the circumstances, it was the perfect opportunity. They made a great team, professionally, romantically as well as in this new situation they got drawn into.

Dead Sound incorporated issues of mental health with religious beliefs. It wasn’t preachy. However, it shed light on how people, especially those in the field of psychiatry, view of persons who believe they hear from God. The suspense thread, although intriguing, ended on an abrupt note. It left me wondering if the threat of danger from this had passed. I know there is more in store for these two. However, I am not sure if it’s from the same or a different source. So picking up the second book in the series is a must.

This intriguing tale is perfect for romantic suspense fans.

When psychotherapist Neve returns to work at Capitol Hill General after being stabbed there, she is swarmed by patients who believe she alone can save the world from an apocalypse. Neve’s best friend, dr. Con O’Brien, is treating the group’s leader, and together they start investigating what the heck is going on. The patient is able to hand them encrypted information, before he falls into a mysterious coma, leaving them clueless.
Fortunately a trustworthy hacker is able to retrieve the information, uncovering a political conspiracy at the highest level. Straight away, the hospital becomes a very dangerous place for Neve to be…
This thriller is the first book in the Things Unseen Series. It’s suspenseful, entertaining and well-written; featuring abuse of power, mental health, betrayal, politics, and faith, with a bit of romance. An absolute page-turner!
I received a preview copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing.

Dead Sound immediately gripped me from the start. The heroine is returning to work after an attack by a patient while on the job. Just wanting her life to return to some level of normal she unwittingly becomes the center of much larger conspiracy in the works at the hospital. Even being forced to take involuntary paid leave, the heroine can’t avoid her fate or the role she has yet to play. Her first day back finds her in the center of the ward surrounded by throngs of patients claiming she has a role in the apocalypse like a creepy cult. The book somehow managed to bring together a secret organization, political plotting and a Grey’s Anatomy backdrop. Combined with the unsure and ominous nature setting the tone of the novel it was hard to determine what was real and what’s not which escalated into a pretty thrilling atmosphere. As someone in the medical field the heroine has some tough calls ahead. She’d never had to question things in her line of work before as there’s always a diagnosis. But now everything has muddled what’s a delusion and what could be real, along with the heroine we were left guessing more than once.
The heroine works as a social worker in the hospital often dealing with patients suffering mentally. She’s heard it all and seen it all but something about a new case has her questioning everything. The tone of the book had me thinking one step further because who ever truly listens to that of a “crazy person,” and when do you decide you should?! I loved the blend of misdirection the author used after dropping hints such as in the beginning when it’s unclear if the book has supernatural or paranormal elements. While the heroines life spirals she also works closely with her coworker and crush, slowly paving the way for their relationship, if only life would stop intruding. The romance is minor and more of a side story especially when compared to the craziness of the main plot. I really enjoyed this book and read it in a day. At times it reminded me here and there of other books I’ve read or movies I’ve seen and I really appreciate how the author put her spin on things and brought them all together. Definitely a promising start to a new series.

Psychotherapist Neviah returns to work at Capitol Hill General in Washington after being stabbed by a patient and is swarmed by a group of patients who have voluntarily admitted themselves to her unit and believe that she is the one to save the world from apocalypse. Neve's friend, Con is an endocrinologist at the hospital who is treating the group's leader when he falls into a diabetic coma but before he does so, he gives Neve an encrypted drive and asks her to find someone who can help her access the information on the drive. Neve and Con give the driver to a hacker who uncovers a political plot by a rouge think tank to remove the president from office and replace him with the VP they control. There is a little paranormal/spiritual element to the story as well when the group's leader claims and angel is watching over Neve and shares information with him that no one knows about Neve and has her wondering about divine forces at work.
This is an interesting storyline that includes issues relating to mental health, faith and abuse of power and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OH MY EVER LOVIN HELL! Anise Eden is a new to me author, and I have to say Dead Sound blew my mind as I NEVER NOT ONCE saw it coming. It's a very layered story so if you want to get a hint of what it's about, you'll have to see the blurb because I'll never come off any information as it would be a crime against nature in my eyes. I'm all about a psychological thrill ride and this story had it in spades, so I was on the edge of my seat cover to cover with no clue as to what was coming around the corner. That means it's safe to say the intense twists are coming in hot, and the mystery is quite original to make it even more EPIC, so I'm still on such a high thinking about it. The brilliant Anise Eden has a new fan, so I will be keeping my eye on her work since I can't go back to not reading her now LOL! Anyway, this book is everything that's perfect in a book for me, so please hit your one click buttons to experience it all for yourselves! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

“If anything happens to you, I’ll lose my will to live. So no, I can’t walk away.” Con to Neve, Dead Sound.

This book! I have never held my breath so much while reading! For one thing, the romance is thrilling, resounding. It echoes through you. For the longest, Neve and Con’s love for each other is unspoken, filled with heart-wrenching yearning. But it’s always there, deep and true, and when it finally comes to light...

Neve is a beautiful lamp of a person. Her inner beauty shines even in the darkest circumstances. Con, our Irish hero, is absolutely delicious. He’s strong – so strong in so many ways. He’s also protective, utterly capable, and respectful of Neve’s strengths and boundaries.

The supporting characters are all completely loveable. In this case, that doesn’t always mean cuddly. They’re a complicated, unpredictable bunch, and just about perfect. I repeatedly wanted to hug them all, to help them, to do whatever was needed to be done to see our way through – and alive -- to the end.

Trauma! Joy and high anxiety weave throughout the story, which is set in Washington, DC. The author has you caring so much about the characters that you feel you are there with them, in the story. Just when you think you are finally sitting down for a peaceful meal together, the serenity is shattered, and you are once again hanging by a thread. I tell you, it’s so well done.

The story’s premise is based on timeless, thought-provoking questions that humans have been asking since the beginning of time. Amidst all the action, there is a gentle, persistent whisper to love unconditionally, and that love has the power to heal.

Whether you're looking for something with nonstop suspense, poignant romance, or situations that stimulate your thinking, Dead Sound has you covered. Anise Eden, thank you for this beautiful story.

Wow, was a major word playing through my mind while I read throughout this entire novel. I absolutely had no idea what I was going to be getting into with this one because this is a new author to me but I just knew I needed to see what it was all about when I saw the cover and some teasers. I am glad that I dove in without hesitation because this novel really just threw some wild ideas out there that I loved. It had so many things going on but managed to keep things flowing flawlessly. We have the mental health and sinister side of things building suspense. Then you have romance and intrigue building along with our main character. You would think all this gets to be too much but really it doesn't and I was simply left with wanting more. I can’t wait for book two and to find out what will come next.

This book is very intriguing and suspenseful! I am glad I picked up this book as this author is new to me. Neve, who works at a local hospital as a therapist returns to work after being stabbed. Things get a little crazy when the patients on the unit start acting strange and they need Neve to help them for what may have come, an apocalypse. Cornelius O’Brien, whom also works for the hospital and with Neve wants nothing to help and is also want to do nothing but protect Neve. As the story unfolds, there are a patient that ends up in a coma and targets on Neve and Cornelius. This story has twists and turns with suspense and a little romance. Very highly recommended.

This book grabbed me from the first moment. It was tense, mysterious & challenging. Check your triggers as there are a few in this that could be upsetting (DV, psychological disorders, institutionalisation etc). I loved meeting Neve & Con, I can’t wait to see where this story goes.

I did want more though - more building of the case, planning, information heists, etc, especially before we got to the big reveals. Despite that, I really enjoyed it.

Thank you to Hot Tree Publishing and the author for this review copy, all opinions are my own.

It’s always great to find a new Author to read and after reading Dead Sound I am definitely going to be exploring more of her stories.

Neve and Con are friends who both work in Capitol Hill Hospital, Neve as a psychotherapist and Con as an endocrinologist. Their paths overlap with some patients as is the case in this book. I liked both of these lead characters from the get-go and as the story progresses my enjoyment of both characters only increases. They both are hardworking, dedicated people, both caring and compassionate but it’s their great sense of humor that makes them stand out. It’s not a razzle-dazzle thing, more of a dry wit that is smooth and alluring.

The mystery element and then the suspense is outstanding, I honestly at times wondered how things could possibly pan out for the "good" guys. An unpredictable story is always best in my view and this one has some terrific twists and turns to make it extra exciting. Neve and Con, along with friend Eric, certainly go on a nerve-wracking adventure. I loved going along with them too and you definitely do feel like you are a part of the team, this is the main reason for the extra half a star.

This book has great characters, a solid storyline, an unpredictable mystery, some fabulous humor, a fantastic romance, and overall is very entertaining. I look forward to reading the next book, which I am hopeful is set in Ireland.

This was a new to me author and I'd definitely be interested in reading more like this.
This took a while to get into, but once I did it definitely made me think.
This wasn't a romance and that's the main reason I picked it up and adore psychological thrillers as I am a self proclaimed suspense junkie.
The male main character irked me at times but redeemed himself mostly by the end, no strong woman likes to be sheltered.
The plot was cleverly thought out and will keep you on the edge of your seat while you're trying to put all the puzzle pieces together.

3.5 ⭐️

“Dead Sound” blends part medical and psychological thriller with a hint of espionage as Neve, a psychotherapist, and her coworker Cornelius entangle themselves in a complex and dangerous conspiracy that a religious cult claims is threatening the power players of Washington D.C. At first, these claims seem too wild to be true, but as sinister events start to unfold that ultimately threatens the nation, Neve becomes determined and desperate to chase down the truth and stop the evil lurking amongst them, but will anyone believe her before it’s too late?

Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres, and I enjoyed watching the mystery unfold at the same time as a slow burn romance between the main characters starts to ignite. The plot is certainly unique and interesting enough that I am starting the second book, however I felt the circumstances around the cult was a little too unbelievable for me, and parts of the book dragged on a bit. The book does seem to set up a lot of potential for the second book, so I’m anticipating a lot more action and closure in the next!

Dead Sound is the first in the new Things Unseen series, and what a great start!

Neve works in mental health, and the book begins with her return to work after having been stabbed by a patient. But her return doesn’t go off without a hitch when a group of patients surrounds her, seemingly worshipping her as the savior of the apocalypse to come. The premise is so engaging… part cult tale, part political thriller, part apocalyptic tale, and even some great romance!

The author does a terrific job of creating an ominous mood, even with the romance and humor. There is so much tension, so much anticipation. And it is such a well-crafted, easily believable, twisty-turny storyline that was clearly well researched. There is a diverse cast of characters with very distinct voices that really lent depth to the story.

This is a great read if you love political or psychological thrillers. It’s also got great elements of cults and apocalptic societies. I definitely recommend this one!

Neve Keane is anxious to return to her job as Psychotherapist at the hospital after being stabbed by a patient. After weeks off work for healing and recovery both mentally and physically, she feels that she's ready to return to work. She is unprepared when instead of a quiet office, she gets mobbed by a group of people on her first day back. She stands helpless in the hallway as they surround her chanting her name and telling her that they need her to help them stop the Apocalypse. After her recent stabbing, Neve is rattled by this turn of events and not sure how to react. She is still suffering from the side effects of the stabbing and the reaction from this group of people has her reliving the memory of her attack. She's visibly shaken but does not want to lead on that she is frightened because her coworkers might feel that she is not ready to return to work and may try to make her go home. She does not want to go back home and finds it better to be at work where she can hopefully keep her mind busy and not be so bored.

As it turns out, the leader of the crowd turns out to be one of Neve's patients, so she is familiar with him. He is also a patient of her friend and co-worker Con. Neither Con nor Neve have seen a violent side to the patient, and both have a good rapport with him. Neve feels it necessary to hear her patient out to get a better understanding of the situation at hand and work towards a possible solution. After explaining his visions to her, Neve agrees to help him against her better judgment. After she hears what he has to say she can't deny that there must be something more to it. If nothing else, she intends to just find out one way or the other. What Neve does not expect to happen is to find a secret plot that involves government officials that goes all the way up to the White House. Now Neve and Con are fighting for their lives as they attempt to stop the end of the world from happening.

This book was very well written and had a storyline that kept me reading to find out what happened next. It moved at a good pace and had a story that involved crime, corruption, evil and a bit of romance all in one. I was curious how far up the chain things went and who all was involved. Was there anyone Neve and Con could trust? Would anyone believe them when they told them what deadly secrets and sinister plots they had uncovered? Would Neve and Con would be successful or would evil win out in the end?

**4.5**
What an excellently written thriller. This is my first read by Anise Eden but I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this series.
Neve is back at work after quite a traumatic experience, probably too soon but it's one of those where you feel like you should be. As a mental health worker, it's never an easy day but walking into Unit 4 and suddenly being surrounded by everyone in the room who then bows down to you, would freak me out too. When a favourite patient of hers turns out to be involved, the intrigue deepens.
It becomes a well plotted thriller, with a mystery that has ever deepening layers with links to a think tank and several prominent people in the US. Then there is the mental health aspect with Amos, Neve's patient, causing Neve to really consider things outside of the box.
When it comes to Con, Neve's best friend and colleague at the hospital, there is a strong friendship but both clearly want more. With Neve just having come out of a bad relationship, Con is more than happy to take his time but with everything going on and tensions constantly climbing, it's only a matter of time before something gives between them. Luckily for Neve, she has amazing support from Con and from her boss on Unit 4. There is also Eric who becomes invaluable to them as they fall further into this mystery that becomes increasingly dangerous.
I can't recommend reading this enough. It took me a moment to start with but once I was in, I was gripped by the story and the relationships throughout the book and I am very much looking forward to how things move forward for Neve and Con, as well as what will possibly be happening in the next book.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review

Wow...there is so much going on in this book and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Neve is returning to work after an attack and is stunned by the scene she walks into. Turns out, she is the center of something that she has no idea about. Her boss, Rosanna (the first time I have ever seen my own name as a character!), tries to talk her into going home until things settle down. Neve refuses as she wants (and needs) to be back at work.

Another person who wants to keep Neve safe is a fellow doctor, Cornelius (known as Con). They both have a mutual attraction that they keep hidden...or so they think. Neve hasn't acted on her feelings because she doesn't want to ruin their friendship...and Con hasn't because, until recently, Neve had a boyfriend.

As the hospital is dealing with the patients who believe Neve plays an important role in thwarting the apocalypse that will be brought on by another doctor, Neve and Con must work together to figure out what is going on. As they are working through the clues they are coming across, they find themselves knee-deep in the underbelly of Washington DC and a political conspiracy.

There are so many aspects of this story that work well together to create an adventure like no other...tragedy, romance, mental health, politics, suspense, and love. It's all there, woven together seamlessly. This was the first book that I have read from this author...but it won't be my last!

Intriguing I feel is the best way to describe Dead Sound! I didn’t love it but I didn’t dislike it either. I wanted to know what was happening which kept me reading!
I enjoyed how the author wrote the characters as well. Con was definitely a protector, especially when it came to everything Neve. Neve on the other hand seems to do what everyone does(which is extremely relatable), she can’t apply what she knows to herself. What I mean is, as a therapist she knows how to navigate situations and help talk other’s through things, but she seems to struggle applying that same concept to her life.
Returning to work after being attacked, Neve walks onto the psychiatric floor and is greeted by patients worshiping at her feet, unnerving to someone who was attacked the last she worked. Seems to get caught up in a dangerous conspiracy due to one of her established patients Amos.
Con, a colleague of Neve who wants to be more, does everything he can do to protect Neve from getting sucked into the dangerous conspiracy, he also being one of Amos Doctors, feels the information that was decrypted from the “Book of Amos” would put her in to much danger despite the promise she made.
What does Con do?
Does Neve find out he’s withholding from her?
How is her boss involved?
What has Amos done?
If those questions intrigue you as much as they intrigued me, you really need to check this book out! You’ll want to know what happens, and the only way you’re finding that out is reading for yourself!

This novel, was amazing from start to finish! I had read other works by this gifted author, but this one truly had me under its spell. I was hooked and even rattled at times, I could not find a reason to put it down, one more chapter always turned into, well, I need more answers, it was so darn good!\

There was a lot of appeal for me and this novel. I found it haunting at times with a suspense that kept on building as I had read on through! Honestly I did not expect how much it had made a clear mind think, there was things that came to question I would not get normally in a suspenseful novel. I did very much welcome it though! This was a suspenseful thriller set to do with politicians, that was unlike any other!

Neve was wonderful, her characterization was through the roof of being exceptional! I really connected with her, in ways more less that one would not think or believe. The supporting characters were wonderful as well, and a true aid to the story. The whole plot was gripping, and watching it unfold, well it was better and more shocking than I had even hoped for! This was extremely well done!

I could not honestly get enough of this book. The story keeps you in suspense, and the romantic side was a very nice realistic touch as well. It was just so good, I could not put it down, in the sense of , I kept wanting more! I highly recommend this suspenseful thriller, seriously, not one to be past up!

This romantic suspense story had me hooked from start to finish. Psychotherapist Neve Keane is just returning to the hospital where she works having been stabbed by a patient, when she’s surrounded by a crowd of people claiming that she needs to help stop the apocalypse! Neve joins forces with Cornelius O’Brien, a rather streetwise doctor as the crowds leader is also a patient of his, things become even more complicated when he falls into a mysterious coma. The pair are pulled into a Byzantine plot that seems to transforms the Capitol Hill General into a dangerous place. Neve and Cornelius must follow the clues that their comatose patient left behind, but this leads them into the underworld of Washington DC, and into a world of shadowy political forces with deadly intentions. With threats and betrayal everywhere the couple race to unravel the sinister conspiracy which seems to lead back to the White House, all whilst having targets on their backs. This was an action packed page turner, which kept me gripped throughout. The main characters were both likeable and relatable which helped make me feel engaged with the story. The storyline had plenty of drama and the suspense really built chapter by chapter, keeping me happily turning the pages!

This was a thrilling and suspenseful 5 star read. This was my first read from this author and I was pulled right in, I look forward to reading more from her.

Nev (Neviah), who works as a therapist returns to work after being stabbed. Some of the patients have started to act very unusual and talk about an apocalypse. Wondering what is going on she works with Con (Cornelius) to try and get some answers. They have a close friendship but also have some hidden feelings for each other. As they work together, they discover some dangerous things that make them targets by some dangerous people.

Will they survive? Can they solve the mystery?

Overall this was a gread read with suspense, romance, tragedy and so much more. The author does a great job with her writing. I was on the edge of my seat as I was reading to see what was coming next. All of the characters added a great element to the story. The ending was great and I can’t wait to read more from this series and author. 1-click and get started today.

Dead Sound is the first book in the Things Unseen series by Anise Eden.
Psychotherapist Neve Keane though the worst was behind her as she embarked on her first day back at work after recovering from a stabbing attack. But things take an unexpected and somewhat sinister turn when she is mobbed within minutes of entering her workplace. Things proceed to get even more worrying when it’s revealed that she’s needed to help prevent an impending apocalypse. Are they crazy? Neve soon finds herself embroiled in a dangerous mystery, where history collides with the present and conspiracies are rife. With politics, sinister intent, and a ticking clock- this romantic suspense takes an intense turn in this edge of your seat race against time.
This psychological thriller had me avidly reading, right from the start, trying to figure out what was going, leaving my mind whirling with several possible scenarios, and wondering just how things would play out.
I will definitely be keeping my eye out for Book #2! Can’t wait!
Happy reading!

Thank you, Anise Eden!

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is a well written story that is fast paced, engaging and full of action. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the beginning by the author’s use of details. Her characters are connectable and brought the story to life on each page. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. Neve is just returning to work after being stabbed only to get more than she wanted. When a patient turns up in a coma, she and the doctor, Cornelius are left in a mystery they are determined to solve. Now they are marked with a target on their backs, will they survive? They are such great strong characters that kept me turning pages. I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this book.

Capitol Hill General Psychotherapist Neve Keane has returned to work after being stabbed by a patient.
Still wary but needing to get back to work, Neve enters her department and is swamped by people claiming that she must help them to end the apocalypse.
At the head of this is one of her favourite patients: Amos, but he also has other information that will lead Neve and her companion, Irish Dr, Cornelius (Con) O'Brien right into the thick of a plot to destabilise the government, and endanger themselves.
What is truth, what is fiction, and what is happening to Amos?

🗨 This is a fast-moving read, and whilst the plot may be over the top, it does flow easily.
Neve and Con are very likeable and extremely competent in many things.
Amos is another likeable character, and I found myself hoping he was going to be OK in the end.
This could be a storyline for a series. It has everything needed.
Tension, suspense, a little romance, quick thinking characters etc etc.
Overall, it's a pretty good read, and being book 1 of 3 in this series, I know I'm in for some good reading.

Many thanks to @hottreepublishing for a copy.

Dead Sound was an awesome read that takes you on an adventure. Neve is a psychotherapist just returning to work after being stabbed by a patient. She returns to quite the scene as she is surrounded by patients claiming she is the one to stop the impending apocalypse. With the words of one of her patients and the help of Con, her best friend and fellow doctor, she is thrust into a plot that has betrayal in the center of DC politics. I highly recommend beginning this new book series. It will sweep you up in the fast-paced plot and leave you wanting more. I’m looking forward to the next in this authors Things Unseen series.
