When Ryan O’Connelly - the unwilling accomplice of a bank robber turned mass murderer - slipped out of the FBI’s grasp, no one expected to hear from him again, much less of his own volition. But when he shows up at the FBI’s doorstep after almost a year of successful evasion, he has information to point Special Agent Winter Black in the direction of a brutal serial killer.
As Ryan takes the team into the deep, dark web of sinister secrets, Winter receives an even more disturbing message from her brother than the last. She can feel him out there...watching, waiting.
Lucky for Winter, she isn’t afraid of spiders. She’s only afraid when the spider disappears.

Another excellent book in the Winter Black series. I just love seeing how all the characters have evolved from the beginning. And, it is all leading up to the biggest mystery yet to solve. Winter's lost brother. I am already worried about that. That just proves to show how involved we become in an excellent series with complex characters which are so well written. I cannot wait for the next one!
Why do I let some kind of OCD drive me to waste brain cells by continuing to read this book when I knew it was not worth my time in the early chapters? In my defense, I enjoyed the first five books in the series so I had hoped the big disappoint with the sixth was a fluke....evidently, it wasn't. I have seriously wondered if, having grown bored with her own characters the author employed a ghost writer to finish the series out. The whole plot and the way it developed lacked plausibility to the point of being ridiculous.....and the characters, whose actions and motivations were always fairly nonsensical started looking just plain stupid when not propped up by a decent storyline. Just to finish my rant - yes, the laziness of this entry by a seemingly talented writer is very irritating - a few things really started to stand out. Green is the least common eye color in humans....so why have so many characters have green eyes? Saying "couple people" instead of "couple of people"....why? also, how do people from different areas say something as regionally specific as " ahold of"? Is ahold an actual word? Does anyone else find a way to use the word "solipsism" in every writing? Sorry, being mad at myself for wasting my time is not the author's fault. But, she needs to get back to actually crafting her work, not just dumping it out here.
Having read most of the reviews of this book, it seems I’m in the minority here. I’m finding the Justin storyline really tiresome as it’s been dragged on throughout 7 books. Cliffhangers are cool but 7 books is pushing it for no resolution.
I do like the characters although Noah’s personality has grown a bit thin at this point. Way too many Darlins and swaggering. I’m happy to see that Autumns profession wasn’t mentioned a thousand times in this book (looking at you, Book 6) although her band tees were brought up ad nauseum instead. My point is this...the author tends to repeat herself quite a bit. “Grunge killed hair bands”. I do like the series and I’m investing in continuing for at least one more. Hopefully book 8 will wrap some of this stuff up and move on a bit.
Why am I still reading this series? It’s like I have rubber neck and just can’t look away, despite the absolute atrocity. I honestly have no idea how these later books are rated so highly. So much repetition… and for the love, can we drag out the suspense on her brother any longer?! I am losing my mind, yet I cannot walk away.
I struggled a little with this book. One of the negatives about this book is how so much information is repeated. It’s just a little tiresome to be told the same things through 7 books. But if I was reading these one after another, maybe it wouldn’t be so obvious.
The cases are interesting, relationships moving along, love how winter is growing as a person. The group of friends is getting bigger bringing in depth to main characters
Who knew reading a series like this could get so addicting. Ms. Stone weaves a story like no other. Awesome detail and thrilling in every chapter. Be prepared to go without sleep to finish this book. Well worth the loss of getting anything else done.
This one was just ok. I liked the story line, but there were definitely threads that were left hanging and clues that she wrote into the story - like the girl texting her mom - that you know would have been told to the police and led them to consider the son much earlier. This book is starting to feel like the author is less interested in the story and more interested in just cranking out the next novel to get those royalties. Will see how much farther I make it in the series now, and whereas before I would have considered the Autumn series, now I will likely move on to something else.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
More hints about her brother, more emotional drama among the characters, more death, more depravity. The Preacher and the aftermath of the final confrontation roil on.
Had trouble finishing this one....numerous references to how Ted Bundy hunted sex workers. That is untrue as really bothers me. If facts can't be used for actual people, then just make up the people so it isn't wrong.

🕸🕷 MY REVIEW 🕸🕷
Book seven of Mary Stone’s addictive Winter Black Series, Winter’s Web, exposes what goes on behind closed doors and the web of lies and deadly truths we ignore to protect the ones we love especially our children. Mary Stone has become one of my favorite crime / serial killer authors. I have been hooked on her since the very first Winter Black book I read . Seven books later I am very addicted to this author. While every book in this series has been amazing I by far think this one is the best.
I can’t wait to start the next book in this series. If you haven’t started the series you really don't know what you are missing. I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed I promise ! There is only 2 more books left in this series and i am going to be so sad to see this series come to an end. I wish the author would keep it going. I have been told she has many more great series to try. I really love Mary Stone's writing! Her characters are so interesting, her descriptions are fantastic and the stories are ones you don't want to stop reading. You can find this and a lot of other books by Mary Stone on kindle unlimited.
Now on to what i didn't like. The constant reference to band T-shirts, and big hair bands is very annoying. Once or twice throughout the whole book would have been enough. I also found it a little odd that they did not interview the victims mom and that her mom never told them that her daughter had called her to get her out of the project date with Carmon because things were getting very weird. Other than these 2 things the book was perfect.
As always if you like the book you read please take the time to leave a review for the author in places like goodreads & Amazon. It does not have to be long. Just a few sentences saying you liked the book will do. Authors really appreciate every review they get ! #maryStone #winterblack
By the time I was about a third of the way into this 7th story of the Winter Black series I began to wonder if my enthusiasm for the series had run out. It appeared to be slow going with the challenge of finding or following up on leads to a possible serial killer case. Then there was the whole younger brother tension for Winter which nags at her and now nags at me (more in an irritating way as I am tired of it). So maybe I was burned out. I returned to the book a few hours later and surprisingly the action began as Winter and crew ratcheted up the tension with a judge and his family, a college student being stalked in the dark web and much more. Author Mary Stone continues with clear cut characters (even new ones with brief roles), FBI/PD procedures and a bit of ongoing information about developing relationships with colleagues (which did not overpower the story). So a solid four stars.
I've wondered where authors think up their material for books
I've read the first 6 books about Winter Black and all her fellow agents in the different departments of the FBI. The research must take up the majority of Mary Stone's time. All the different subjects that Winter, Noah, Autumn, Aiden, Max, Bobby, Ben, Sun and Miguel mix in to solve violent crimes is awesome. We've all heard that truth is stranger than fiction. Somewhere in the writing of these books, some stories of real criminals is the basis of each book. Add imagination and voila, A book is born. Congratulations for being able to keep writing terrific books concerning agents of the FBI and the counter organizations who are honest humans who are in law enforcement to bring justice and to protect the average Joe Snow. Thank you.
In the continuing saga of Winter Black, FBI agent, we come along a new story. One of the dark web, involving Ryan O'Connelly and Nathaniel Arkwell, plus his son Cameron. Someone is kidnapping young prostitutes and killing them on video tape to sell through the dark web.
Winter and Noah (another agent) will work together again to catch the culprit. All with the knowledge that Winter, whose brother has been missing, has received emails alluding to the fact that he is not only alive but wants to see her.
Although you can read all of Stone's series as a stand alone book, it is best to start with Book #1 just to keep up with the great story that is being told. There are 9 in the series....I will be finishing them. #fourstars #kindleunlimited
This entry in the series has Ryan O'Connelly who escaped FBI custody returning a year later to help them find a serial killer. Ryan helps them with a case of a snuff film posted to the dark web. The book is disturbing. It explores what a parent will do the help a child. The guilt felt when a child does horrible things. The pace is fast. Ryan O'Connelly was a character I enjoyed from a previous entry in the series. It was great to spend time with him again. Winter's brother is escalating in his contact with Winter. While this case is solved, what will happen next with Winter's brother? If you enjoy books where the story overlaps into the next book, this one is for you.
Poor facts for an author focused on serial killers
Mary Stone can tell a good story, there's no denying that. But why bring in Ted Bundy repeatedly if you don't know the basic information? Bundy didn't target sex workers. Plenty others did. Name those victims. Ensure they're remembered. They deserve this.
And if you're going to compare the psychology of an invented killer to one of the most notorious, as a prelude to featuring a forensic psychologist, it's distracting when the facts about that real-life killer's traits are incorrect.
Again, good storytelling, but the inappropriate comparisons take the reader out of that story.
That's Much Better After book 6 of this series, I was thinking I might have to ditch out on the rest of the Winter Black books. But this one was back to focusing mainly on the mystery and not so much on who's sleeping with whom like the last book was.
The antagonist in this one: off-the-charts creepy. This guy is not one you want to meet up with. But he's not the only creep factor in those pages. There are more to come.
This was a great story. Good, solid mystery unfolding while the relationship arcs progressed as well, but not as prominently. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Diese Reihe ist wirklich etwas Außergewöhnliches und die Autorin ein Naturtalent! In diesem 7.
This book was better than others in the series. Very fast paced from start to finish. As the 7th book we know the characters and they continued to develop in this book. It was quick. As the college girl was killed I was already thinking of all the evidence, the text to her mom, talking to Caroline etc and they did not need any of it as his story fell apart so fast Interesting the author’s descriptions are always about the eyes and I think only Autumn has brown eyes Finding Justin is not going to be a good thing
I read this in two sittings. The second sitting was heavily influenced by the fact that I'd had an angry falling out with the stairs at work, and needed vengeance for my bloodied knee. So, I read this with the aggressiveness of an angry bee.
I thoroughly enjoyed both the established and new dynamics of the characters. I appreciated seeing a character I thought I'd not see again. I was intrigued by the insight POV I was getting and I was here for the slight cliffhanger ending.
I've been slacking on reading at the moment, so this was a great read to dive back into.
Great read a real page turner, lot a twists and turns. it was hard to A down at times. . The aurhor is a great story teller, has a way with words and paints a picture so well you think your write there living with them. It had an amazing number twist and turns that I just didn't see coming, it was frustrating at times , but it had a some what satisfying ending. . I really kept looking forward to the next reading section of it.. Looking forward to the continuation in the next book hope .
The FBI deals with the underbelly of society and this book is a look at the making of a serial killer. I love these characters! They are real and sometimes gritty. How they keep their sanity is beyond me. The development of the Cameron character is really interesting. It was a page turner. I read it in one day and couldn't put it down. Love this series!
I enjoy Mary Stone series of this particular character. With her unusual ability to see important items on a crime scene. Also her tragic past. Winter solved the murder of her parents and now looking for her little brother that was kidnapped by the murderer on the night of the crime. Even though he left her for dead she survived and lived to become an FBI agent. She continues to solve many murders but now fears her brother may be pyhscopath. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I loved this book! Winter, Noah, Autumn, the gang are back in action! When a con man named Ryan finds a sick brutal murder on the deep dark web he goes to the FBI, even though he is wanted. He makes a deal with them to help find who has been going after these girls. A big time judge is worried that his son is doing something bad& tries to cover for him! Yep, another fast paced page turner!!
I am enjoying this series. The different plots, character growth. However, I wish the author would not have every person 'pry' open the refrigerator door. Do you pry open your refrigerator door or just open it? Also, all the women characters have to put a piece of hair behind her ear. She likes to reuse the phrase, the 'shadows move on his/her throat when he/she swallows. All of her characters either snort or chuckle. Just wish she would change things up a little.
To me, the star of this book is Ryan O’Connelly. He’s a lovable rogue and although a burglar/thief, he comes across as a modern day Robinhood. We have a lot of subplots competing with each other in this book/series that are yet to be played out. Lots of questions hanging in the air but surprisingly these multiple storylines don’t take away from the plots in each book of this series. This author sure knows how to handle multiple spinning plates.
