Welcome to Hawkwood Hollow, where the dead outnumber the living.
It's time for the grand opening of Hawkwood Hollow’s first haunted hotel, and Maura and her friends are ready for the first guests to embark on their ghost tour.
When a guest inexplicably drops dead of an apparent heart attack, it at first seems like a freak accident. But the victim's widow thinks otherwise, and she's determined to make Maura and her friends face the consequences. At first, Maura thinks the angry widow has lost her mind, but it soon becomes clear that there's a murderer in the area…and they aren't human.
As if hunting a ghostly killer isn't enough, Maura's business is dealing with attacks on all sides as someone is determined to sink their business into the ground. Can Maura save the inn, protect her friends and catch the killer—or will it all go up in flames?
Elle Adams lives in the middle of England, where she spends most of her time reading an ever-growing mountain of books, planning her next adventure, or writing. Elle's books are humorous mysteries with a paranormal twist and tons of magical mayhem.
She also writes urban and contemporary fantasy novels as Emma L. Adams.
This is one of my favorite paranormal cozy mystery series. A young woman who is half reaper and half witch. Not accepted by other group she left the reapers when her brother was killed when he was 18. She messed around doing different jobs in different towns until finally she went to help get rid of a evil ghost and a small paranormal town and ended up staying. The local reaper had decided to semi retire and quit doing his job 20 years ago and his apprentice had been killed. Now hundreds of ghosts roam around the town and a river which was the local in with a mother and daughter who own it and the young daughter is a novice ghost hunter. It’s a very entertaining and fun series to read. Check it out
Poor Carey's first ghost tour delights all but one of her guests who drops dead. His enraged widow Esther is determined to sue the hotel and put everyone out of work even though it appears to be from natural causes. Most of the remaining guests are positive about the tour and leave happy but one, Sofia, is lurking around claiming she's doing research for setting up her own haunted tours, it raises Maura's hackles and when Jia sees who it is suspicion that something is definitely not right rises.
Maura knows that the inns ghosts were not near Esther's husband at point of death but when she talks to them about the situation she hears worrying news about a shadow hovering around the body. What's more a ghost blogger who was on tour is posting photos of the body and nasty reviews which expose Maura's reaper status.
Once again she's going to have to disturb that old curmudgeon Harold seeking answers and help before she's arrested herself and sent to the reaper council.
Ok, I like these books but Mart seriously annoys me. He is 18 and acts 4. I get so tired of "I don't do anything for nothing", "I had to do the whole tour by myself". Pout, pout. And Maura always falls for it. Oh, how about more hot showers, you pick the movie? Forget about everyone else, it's all about you. True, he does sometimes come through but his character comes off as childish and manipulative and seriously annoying. I mean, 18 - even for a ghost- is an adult, so when does that kick in? I would have thought once being a reaper would have taken care of that. BUT that being said, I do enjoy this series.
I've been bingeing this series so much lately. I finished the fifth book and dove right into Give a Ghost a Bad Name!!! Loved it!
This one brings the story slightly back to Moira's history with the ex-coven leader, when their new ghost tours go wrong! Someone ends up dead. Was it a mild heart attack or something more sinister? I love that this series keeps me on my toes. The last book was centred around zombies and this one is demons. It is definitely a series that is never dull!!!
If you like paranormal mysteries this one is well worth a try - especially on audio. The narrator is fantastic!
This is entertaining! The mystery is well-woven and doubles back on itself, making for an interesting read. Maura has discovered more allies than she was aware of (and one intriguing potential); she may finally have the advantage, even. The core characters are delightful for the most part and contribute towards making this series such a delight. The magical elements are thoughtfully imagined and move the story apace. Book Seven cannot come too soon!
What a story!! Every one is as good as the one before!! I really enjoyed this one with the twists , suspense, consequences and results! Mart needs to grow up!!! Just saying!! Then there's Harold ... I'll stop there!!! I'm on to the next book, maybe I'll get something done first! Elle Adams' books are hard to put down! I didn't mean to finish this one in a day!!! Enjoy!!!
Good plot twists, interesting characters, and fun to read! In this book, Maura needs to find out exactly what happened to a guest at the very first ghost tour that is being held at Allie's inn. After getting a nudge in the right direction from Reaper Harold, Maura is able to figure out all of those involved in not only summoning a demon to town, but then allowing said demon to kill three people. I wonder what Maura will get up to in the next book in the series.
Overall, I like this series. I like to read/listen between darker more gritty/heavy emotional reads. I really like the narrator. I will read, but listen while working on projects or yard work.
I struggled with this book. Most series of books, usually has a book that I just don’t gel with well. I just didn’t like the plot of this one. I’ll keep on reading the series though
Elle Adams doesn’t disappoint in this latest novel in the Reaper Witch series. Carey’s ghost tour is up and running, but the latest complication leads to many twists and turns. Enjoy!
I am having so much fun reading these books! Good thing I'm retired and can read until wee small hours of the morning! I just can't seem to put Maura and her friends down!
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
I really, really enjoyed this book. Parts of it were fun and there was a lot of action. Something big happened, or almost did, and I'm very excited to read what happens next.
This series is good but the start of this book ticked me off. Once I got past it the flow and characters helped soothe my irritation. The one antagonist really pissed me off. 😂
The inn’s first ghost tour doesn’t go as planned: a guest drops dead. The coroner said natural causes, but was it. Maura has to find a murderous spirit, as well as deal with a grief crazed widow, in this latest must read from Elle Adams!
