A malevolent presence lies in wait without their knowledge....
After a hard-fought battle in the heart, Progen has defeated the agents of the entity that wants to destroy the body he is determined to control. It was a temporary defeat, however, as the entity retreated up into the body’s brain, safely entrenched behind the blood-brain barrier that is preventing the dungeon crystal from accessing the coveted home base of the central nervous system. As he further establishes his control over the different systems that he can access, a grievous wound to the body creates a problem that could spell the end of his objective.
With the Thieves’ Guild basically destroyed by the Adventurer’s Guild in Graniton, thanks to help from the thief-turned-adventurer, Marstin Hardgrove, his prospects were only looking up. Having established himself as a trustworthy addition to the Guild, it didn’t take long before he was asked to join numerous adventuring teams as they tackled different quests. However, a disturbing discovery towards the north, where the tribes cultivate their Ice Caribou, will lead to a situation where Marstin’s friends are treated with suspicion back home. Worse than that, the old prejudices against thieves and former thieves come back to haunt him.
With hidden enemies preying on them from the shadows of anonymity, will Progen and Marstin be able to stop these vicious parasites from snatching away the lives they are striving towards?

DNF 8:17/-8:27 I could not finish the book. I tried 2-3 times to continue but couldn't. The main problem is how the readers knew about some things that the MCs didn't and it was frustrating. For example there is Cancer growing in the MC and we were told in the beginning of the book about it, but progen didn't know it. And he was struggling to find the Cancer throughout the book. There was mystery involved but no suspense because readers knew about the problem beforehand. The same things keep happening in the book. And MC is still a weakling. Everyone is throwing magic around like candies but MC doesn't even had a healthy body yet let alone magic. And he has sharp senses but ignores them all the times. And so on...
Being a dundeon core group, I would expect the majority of the time to be spent on that perspective. Unfortunately, it didn't happen this time.
Also, because so much time was spent outside of the dungeon, there were a ton of perspective shifts that were wholly unnecessary for the story and ultimately caused a lot of timeline issues.
The Bio Dungeon, Progen, continues to expand its growth and evolution within the the body of the Adventurer, Marstin; while Marstin himself continues to grow as an Adventurer. The plot of those behind the murder of Martin's family are also evolving, but now they are suffering setbacks as Marstin and his (unknown to everyone) Dungeon Core ally's continued adventures in the world and the microscopic domain where Progen dwells interact with the people of Graniton.
This Series will likely appeal to fans of the Fantasy, Dungeon Core, and LitRPG genres as well as those who are fans of playing RPGs. Naturally, you will want to read the first book in the series before starting this one.
I pushed through the first book and this one because I love Jonathan Brooks but I’m really disappointed. The books promise a hybrid of dungeon core and adventure but you get neither in this. I do like how it teaches about different parts of the body but the rest of the story is lackluster. The MC is pathetically weak and only gets by because everyone around him does everything for him. The dungeon core doesn’t even use the body like a dungeon, just throws mobs at things until it wins. No planning, no research, nothing. I won’t refund my audible credits but I definitely won’t be picking up the third book.
The first half ignores the concept that brought me to the table. The dungeon aspect is minimized and overlooked for half the book. The main character is still a weak protagonist that ignores his feelings, regardless of how often they are proven right, and lets horrible things happen. The story is predictable and when the action does occur, it is unbelievable. When the dungeon part finally kicks in, it is too late and you just do not care. I skimmed over those parts just to reach the end.
While the dungeon core battles a giant monster of his own Marstin is back in the outside world trying to save his friends from danger.
This time the story focuses more on the world outside the body, and the things going on in Marstins life. It is still a great book, and the dungeon core is still improving his dungeon, but it will be interesting to see how this ends.
Parasyte follows its predecessor well and is well worth reading if you liked the first book. Quality is high and I didn't see any typos or formatting issues when reading on my phone. Looking forward to book 3.
I am looking so forward to when the prodigal son returns! There is so much potential to be fulfilled! I look forward to when Progen and Marstin start to interact, because I picture a young “hero” noble scion arguing with an inhumanly pragmatist.
A great sequel to the first book. The world has been explored more and after great effort Marstin and Progen have both overcome significant hurdles. Can't wait for the 3rd
Instead of the same humdrum fantasy tropes, this book takes those same tropes and inverts them on their head. Thoroughly enjoyable and well worth the read. I'm eagerly awaiting book three.
This story of a dungeon core that was swallowed trying to take over a body was slightly boring yet very interesting. The story of a former thief trying to do good in the Adventurers Guild was absolutely fantastic.
A very well thought out book. The use of correct terminology is fantastic. You do sometimes lose the thread of the book, but as you progress, you're brought back to the story line. Really looking forward to the next chapter.
Pretty good continuation, Felt like the split for this story wasn't as balanced as previously but both stories are still good. Really wondering where this is going to end up.
It's not often you entertain yourself, and learn biology at the same time. I really like how the author weaves anatomy lessons into the narrative in this story. It's kind of an interesting way to do things, and I find myself amused by it. Certainly an original dungeon perspective, so I think I'll stick with it because it's a very interesting way to tell a dungeon story.
This was such a great follow up to book 1! Lots of action, story, world, and character building. The ending was a surprise for sure! Can't wait to see what's next!
