My goodness, this book was a complete surprise and quite amazing! I cannot believe how much the series has grown over the years and I am on the edge of my seat to see where it goes next. The characters in this story all become much more fleshed-out: Anfang with his need for redemption, Rachel with her spunky outbursts, Aadhya with her quiet resolve, and Antonio with his wonderful cooking. But hands down, Thyra is my favorite. She’s complex and conflicted and I truly feel for the difficult decisions she has to make. She’s a wonderful protagonist.
This book was at times lighthearted, at times serious, and at times tragic, but everything blended together perfectly. And that cliffhanger ending...! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I'm simply blown away by this one. The amount of emotional depth and maturity compared to its predecessors is astounding. Not that the first two were bad in that regard, but Alexander Bizzell really pushed the envelope here. The Gathering subplot is over and with that out of the way, basically everything about the series works now. The characters are incredible, the themes are resonant, and the atmosphere is one that is quietly sad and hopeful in equal measures - until one of the darkest endings I've yet read in a book like this.

Thyra is an absolutely astounding protagonist. The journey she takes here is heartbreaking, but feels like a natural development of where her character is going. This is sort of the Empire Strikes Back of her story, her darkest hour, and the ending legitimately upset me both in terms of how shocking it was but most of all how distraught it made her. But somehow it all feels earned. This book, more than any of them so far, really looks the question of whether gryphons can ever live happily with the humans who oppress them dead in the eye and engages with some difficult conversation between its characters. While previous books showed us that some humans were good, this one shows even Johnathen struggling to overcome his biases, and Thyra's patience with humans becoming tested in some extreme ways. Yet, at the same time, it still has room for a story about Anfang learning the value of life, both gryphon and human, and becoming a better person. Even in this darkest hour, there is still hope.

I'm not saying this is like a timeless masterpiece - I wouldn't even be qualified to say that even if I wanted to - but that it really resonated with me and impressed me. It shows this series has fully committed to taking its themes seriously and telling the best story it can, even if it has to go to some darker places. It fills in more about the world, about Thyra's backstory, and about how and why gryphons themselves exists, and what the ramifications of that are, and most of all, it allows for nuance in the conversation of whether or not gryphons and humans can coexist without being utterly pessimistic. And all of it works.

I was just really blown away by this one, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next book. This will have a proud spot on my shelf for a while, and I'm really proud of how much Alex has grown as a writer.

This was the kind of book that after finishing, made me want to write a review, because of some bothers that I had about the book.
Mainly concerning Johnnatan and his whole role on the book from now on. Certainly it has changed compared to the last two books, whereas he was really a main character, and impacted the story. Which I feel like its not the case with how he's been turned into basically a punching bag for the gryphons, for every. single. case. There was a reason where John was getting mocked, even fucking Addy made fun of him. Holy shit, from what he was a main and mega important character in the beginning of the series to a bird punching bag. Im just really disappointed for how it turned out for him, since one of the main reasons why I loved this series was because of being urban times, and a interspecial couple. And now it seems like it lost this second flavor, since he became so.. feeble.
Another complaint is about how DEAR GOD RACHEL IS OVERLY ANNOYING how could no one hater her?? Pardon but there is literally 0 characters who disliked her, crazy. Because with that personality it can even bother a reader XD.
Besides all this, this book for me was really saved, because it had tons of slice of life, which is my fav type. Still considering weather reading the next book or not, in the point of how it was developted

So some ok world building as we learn about why the Gryphon project was started and even some details about how they were created and it is weird and kind of wish it went into a different direction and I am not sure how I feel about the escalation of events. As I do like the idea of them setting up a place for Gryphons to live but I do feel some of the explanation given is not really that well thought out or explained. Like why do people hate Gryphons so much and why is the war inevitable as that part is not explained enough.

Even MORE escalation - MAAAY be a bit too steep of a curve for my taste, but still, the whole story comes over well to me as reader.
Be prepared to plummet into a dark future, though.

Definitely a must read if you read the first books - if not, read all three of them!

A Thrilling Continuation

Definitely a worthwhile read. As always with this series, the ensemble cast continued to be a delight, with each character’s quirks and ideologies on display. Intrigue and suspicion made this one a more gripping read. Excited for book four!

I felt like I was watching a movie I suck at writing reviews but I was so attached to this. I don't like that my favorite character dies at the end.. dying for the cause of greater good? No Why must you pull my heart strings like that!

Colony picks up from where book two left off, and while it’s fair to say it’s a great book, I enjoyed book two a little more.

Pros:

-The twist at the end!! Not going to spoil anything but it was shocking and I was genuinely concerned for the band going into book four.
-the characters are great as always! Rachel and Nathanial’s relationship was great to see as I love the enemies to lovers trope. Also, Anthony was an excellent addition, though I must admit he was a bit boring for me until the secret about him was revealed later.

Cons:
-wasn’t too thrilled about the change of setting, namely because lots of characters (mostly background) were left behind, but I’m hoping that will be fixed in upcoming books.
-the story felt a bit slow at times, mostly because things were going along too well, but there were welcome additions that made the waiting worthy until the twist and cliffhanger at the end.

Overall, another great instalment to the Gryphon Generation series. It only gets better from here.

I really enjoyed the vast majority of this book. Without giving any details, I did not enjoy the last three chapters. That said, I will be getting the next book when it comes out and I really liked getting to know the characters better.
