Firefighter Micah Freeman is the pillar of faith at fire station #9. He's the one everyone turns to in their hour of need. A man of steel in every regard, but even steel has a breaking point.
When a tragedy strikes close to home, Micah's faith is challenged far beyond anything he has ever encountered. Truly relying on God for strength, Micah must find a way to put the pieces back together and find the peace he once had.

Chapin makes his home in the Pacific Northwest and has the pleasure of raising his daughter with his beautiful wife Crystal. To find out more about T.K. I really struggled with this book for several reasons. First, it needed to have the wife’s POV for me to empathize with her and feel her loss. Second, the pivotal scene with their daughter should have had me in tears, but it happened so fast and neither protagonists reacted the way I would expect a parent to react. Third, at times, this one came across as preachy. I did enjoy the later part of the book with William and was glad the way the book ended. Happy reading/listening!
What an awesome story! After the Fire is the 4th and final book in the Embers and Ashes series. After The Ashes Is Book 4 of the Embers and Ashes series by T.K. Chapin. This contemporary Christian Romance book inspires and tugs on your heart strings. The hero and his wife go through a tragedy no parent should have to go through. The story has a very meaningful message of trusting God in the midst of the fire or trial. This message is so true and uplifting. It reminds me of the story of Job. God will bring you out on the other side stronger and blessed. Life can be cruel. As humans we sometimes fail, but God is there through it all to love us back to Him if we are willing to let Him. T.K. Chapin has become one of my favorite authors, and this book a favorite. I was given a copy for an honest review. I highly recommend this book and this author.
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness. What an amazing story. I absolutely loved it. Heartbreaking but healing. I found this story to be a good end to the series. Very well written and I had to read it straight through. The lessons that can be learned from this story are huge and many. Lots of food for thought and possible application to ones life. I love to read fiction stories that show how great God is and how very much He loves us. This one does both. I highly recommend this to all. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed most of After the Fire. The story was heartfelt and heartbreaking at times but so good. There were parts that were pretty unbelievable, but the uplifting, inspirational story kept it afloat.
Micah was a man of faith throughout all 4 books of this series. He was the one that provided guidance whenever any of the other characters were having problems. Micah always turned to God in prayer and word. His faith seemed unwavering. Then tragedy struck his home. Losing your teenage daughter so suddenly would shake anyone's faith. Micah was angry and lost for a short while. Upon advice from his pastor Micah chose to get away and get in touch with God. Micah's faith was back in a big way and again he had purpose. Finding an abused little boy on the beach Micah set out to protect the little boy when it seemed everyone in the town was against him.
This is where it became a bit unbelievable. First, William is 8 years old. I highly doubt that any kid at 8 would have that level of biblical knowledge and wisdom. The author would have done a far better job making William just a couple years older. Also, Micah's faith became unbelievable. Don't get me wrong I know you can go through loss and still love God and be thankful for the time you've had with your loved one. But, I find it hard to believe that you can be shot and immediately drop beside the shooter telling him of God's love and helping him to accepting Christ as his savior. I think it would be great, but not realistic. Could he have come to that forgiveness and wanted to help the man that shot him? Yes. But, within seconds of it happening? Unlikely.
This was a well written story on the struggles of loss that we all face in our lives. It painted a picture of how God leads us through the difficulties in our life journey to do the things He needs us to do. This is the fourth book in this series and the main character in this book was a part the other books. In this book his faith was shaken but through his concern for a child and his close relationship with his wife, he found the path that the LORD wanted him to follow. I was blessed by taking this journey.
For anyone with children, this will be an emotional read. But through all the tragedy God was working to bring good things to Micah and Denise, and to one little boy. They also find crime and mystery as they work through their grief. And of course, they realized that God was there all the time working out good for others as well as themselves. Wonderful and inspiring book. And once again Chapin works in a lesson in walking with the Lord in all of life; good and bad.
“Embers and Ashes” is a riveting set of 4 Christian books written by T.K. Chapin. Each book involves a unit of fire fighters & is about different members of that fire house. Each book is Bible based, has different plots, at times keeps you on the edge of your seat, you will probably need some Kleenex at times & we’ll-written! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series! God Bless!
This was a very sad, suspenseful and spiritual book. The author kept you interested in so many ways. I really enjoyed reading this book. The ending was fantastic.
I found the time table of this book frustrating. Emotions and events moved from one to another too quickly to follow. There is a good story here, it just was not developed in a believable manner to me.
After a tragedy in the lives of Micah & Denise Freeman, their faith is challenged. After an interesting chain of events Micah stumbles into a frightening crime ring. Micah allows his faith to guide him through the many challenges. Truly an inspirational book.
I usually enjoy Christian fiction; however, while this story is full of some good solid Christian teaching, it lacks in the most basic areas of writing. The characters have no depth and, in some places, the plot doesn't seem very realistic.
Enjoy reading this author. Keeps you close to God with all the circumstances that are written in each book. Makes you examine your own heart. Trusting God in all situations.
Short story of life after the death of a child. Happy ending and all worked out. I appreciated the mention of Devine Providence in the working of the story.
After the Fire is yet another great book written by author, T. K. Chapin. This is the fourth and final book in the Embers and Ashes series. These books were set in Spokane, WA with the firefighters of fire station #9 as the main characters of each book…Book one- Cole, Book two- Kane, Book three- Rick and now Book four is about Micah. Throughout the series each book is written in first person from each of the main characters point-of-view…love how each character tells us his story.
I was excited to finally get to read about this station #9 character, Micah, because we’ve read of his influence in the lives of the other characters along the way in the other books and finally get to read about him! This is fiction, but I especially like how "human" Chapin made Micah. He has some intense things going on in his life (of which, I will NOT give spoilers as I don’t want to ruin Your experience of this exceptional read) and in the midst of the experiences he has real responses to the happenings. Micah is the kind of character that every Christian woman would want for her husband, especially after 20 years of marriage. He’s godly, faithful, loving, the encourager and a good example to others. I found this book to be encouraging to me in my faith, and also found it to be an emotional read...there were even tears though some of the scenes. There’s also quite a few parts that kept me on the edge of my seat as I read…wondering how this author was going to take the story. Chapin did a great job in surprising me with the directions taken within the pages of After the Fire.
Chapin doesn’t preach in his Christian fiction books, but he does gives verses and encourages a closer walk with the Lord throughout each of his books. You can almost always count on Chapin to give you a few great quotes in each of his books. You won’t be disappointed with this great quote from After the Fire, “…happiness depends on your circumstances; joy depends on God and my relationship with Him.” There’s an even better quote, but I’ll let you find it as it’s the essence of the whole series culminated into one quote. You’ll love it!
This was a nice easy read with sadness and a few surprises; however, I didn't really feel the same connection to the characters in this story as I did with the others in this series. The overall story just was not realistic, in my opinion. I am not absolutely sure what the problem was, but I don't really feel the characters were memorable enough. A day after I had finished reading it, I found it hard to remember the story and had to really search my brain to remember the various happenings. I feel Jasmine 'left the story' too soon and I didn't feel like I had an opportunity to get to know her and then William came into the family situation too soon after the major event, and yet so close to the end of the story that the readers didn't get to 'know' him either.
Overall, though there was some very good Christian teaching in the story, I felt the characters were not developed enough for me to describe it as a book that I really liked or loved. I do like this author though and will continue reading his stories. This one just fell a bit short for me and it also needed more editing.
After the Fire by T. K. Chapin end this series with a breathing taking read. Micha and his wife’s personal loss was difficult but it is handled with sensitivity. As Micah turns to God for strength the grief and questioning is not skimmed over. This is one of this writer’s true strengths; he portrays the Christian walk with authenticity. There is no fairy God-father to make life easy and perfect.
Neither does T.K. Chapin shy away from showing the easy slide into corruption and sin. Often non-inspirational books show this side of the church but usually it is in a critical way against Christianity. There is balance in this story.
After the Fire is strong with more than one unexpected twist. Still each turn both good and bad fit smoothly in the flowing fast pace novel. Then the characters have depth and an emotional intensity that pull you right into their struggles, sorrows and joys. It’s an intensely moving, poignant, unforgettable read.
I received a free advance copy of this fourth and final book from the "Embers and Ashes" series in exchange for my review of the story.
Once again we join the brave men at Fire Station #9 as they journey through life together. This time it is Micah Freeman's story, a man who has been a mentor to so many others at Fire Station #9.
I found this book harder to read than the others simply because of the heart wrenching tragedy that Micah and his wife go through.
One message that rings true through the story is that even when bad things happen, God can use those things for his purposes. A real illustration of Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (NIV)
Thank you, T. K. Chapin, for inviting me to read these books from the "Embers and Ashes" series.
After the Fire is the 4th and final book in the Embers and Ashes series. I have enjoyed each book in the series, but I do believe this one is my favorite. This story follows firefighter Micah and his wife and the events that lead to the testing of their faith through a tragic situation no parent ever wants to have to go through. The story carries the reader on an emotional roller coaster, and it is a beautiful and powerful story of God's love and faithfulness in taking care of His children even through the worst of circumstances. The author's personal belief and faith in God certainly comes through his writing. I hate to see this series come to an end and I will miss reading about the fireman in Firehouse #9. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and this book and the entire series are well worth reading.

This is a stirring and challenging book. It begs the reader to look deep inside to see if he is solidly grounded in his faith and is ready to share that faith in any situation. The hero, Micah Freeman, was just such a man. I admit that I am lacking in that area and need to get serious about sharing my faith with others. I would not call Micah pushy but he knew how to take advantage of the openings that were placed in front of him. Our churches need to be filled with men and women like him. This is not specifically a book about sharing one’s faith but it leaves the reader with that message. The story was very interesting. I recommend it to all believers. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
After the Fire, shows us that life is hard sometimes and it burns, stings and bites. It puts us deep into a Job situation and shows us that there are times in our lives when things happen to us that are more than we can bear. But is also shows that God is still on His throne and if we can look at things from His perspective we will make it through the storms.
God is working everything out for our good like he did for Micah, Denise and William. We may not understand it all, but just know there is joy on the other side of pain and that is the message of hope that, After The Fire delivers.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
After the Fire is the final book in the Embers and Ashes series and one of the best. This is the story of Micah who is a fireman and a man of God. and a family tragedy changed him. This is a life changing journey of a man and his wife back to God after the tragedy. We see God's grace, love and redemption. This book makes realize however close our walk is with God, we are going to be tempted and tested like Job. Thanks again for the honor of reading this book and giving my honest opinion. Everyday your writing ability and walk with the Lord grows.
Oh my goodness, I don't know where to begin. This was such a good book! I was truly sad when it was over. I found myself laughing and crying with the characters as I turned the pages. It is a beautiful story of a firefighter and man of God. I love the parallel between the story and Job's (from the bible)life. Along the way you may just find your faith growing with Micah and his family. *Received this book for my honest opinion*
The books in this series keep getting better and better! This one is definitely my favorite! I really like how the characters in all these books deal with real problems people have throughout life. I love the lessons taught through the stories. I was given a copy of the book to read and to provide an honest review.
An interesting story. A little over the top as,far as Micah's constant talk of God and his plan. Also, hard to believe so many supposedly godly people could become so corrupt. Not likely the things happened as,fast as the circumstances in the story. at least it had a happy ending. Would give it 4 stars.
An awesome end to the Embers and Ashes series. Well written with great character development. A story of loss, grief and trusting in God to bring you through the fire.
