I mainly read this for Sarah M. Eden's story, because I'm a fan of the Jonquil & Lancaster series, and the story here is related to those, but you could just read this without reading those too.

Though I think it hits so much harder when you know who Adam is already/who he becomes. It had me crying because of how sweet it was. It's definitely my favourite story here.

I've never read Anneka R. Walker, Dana LeCheminant or Esther Hatch, but I really loved their stories as well. I need someone to tell me if any of them are connected to their other books or if they're standalones, pretty please.

I ended up finishing this in two days, though I originally planned to listen to one story each day, but since they were all so good I had to do two. The narrator was excellent and made the whole experience even better.

The first three stories were all pure 5 stars for me, the last one more of a 4, so overall this is a 4.5 with huge reread / relisten potential.

Absolutely magical!

I think this may just be my new favorite Christmas collection - every story is a solid 5+ stars!! Which, let's be honest, is not a huge surprise given the four authors.

Carriage rides, beautiful gardens, loaves of bread, out-of-season Christmas celebrations, secrets, swoony kisses, choir practices, forced proximity, wit and humor, Christmas balls, switched identities, embarassing moments, bargains, enemies to lovers, mistletoe, and romantic proposals. This collection has it all plus that little extra touch of holiday magic.

This collection is all you need for Christmas this year. Sigh. Double Sigh. I loved it all and this will be one I re-read around the holidays every year. Highly recommend!!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

I love these Christmas anthologies and this one was fabulous!!! All four of these authors are my favorite. Some of these novellas are companion books to these authors' series but they can all be read as stand alone novels if you haven't read anything previously from them. But I will say that I absolutely loved seeing how they tied into previous books I've read.

I was grinning and laughing and tearing up and sighing and wishing for more with these stories. They made me so happy. There were several themes of family and friendship throughout the whole collection. Definitely lots of matchmaking. Several mischievous relatives or the main characters themselves coming up with schemes to protect them or to push them into a relationship. Oh heavens, I giggled several times over a few of these characters. If you're wanting lighthearted and full of heart you will find it aplenty in this collection.

I don't know if I could say one is my favorite over the others because they were all so well written with very engaging stories and characters. The sweet romance and matchmaking was very charming and honestly had me grinning a lot. The love stories were so fun and unique and full of chemistry. The characters were witty and had great banter. These authors sure know how to write great witty dialogue.

Carriage rides, charades, disguises, Christmas celebrations, family, gardens, quick glances, Scotland, England, brogues, grudges, sorrow, healing, friendship, horse rides, matchmaking, bread, fake identities, choir practice, prayers (or rather please for help and bargaining), marriage of convenience (kind of- haha), stolen glances, sweet kisses, tender moments, forgiveness, proposals, and so much more is contained within this great collection!!!

Content: All four novellas are clean and sweet. No swearing and no explicit content. Only sweet kisses.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

The Holly and the Ivy

Sarah M. Eden

Eight-year-old Duke of Kielder is spending quality time with Lord and Lady Jonquil. His parents haven’t been the best influencers in his small life, and this has left him scarred on the inside. His nursemaid, Robbie is also along for this visit with the Jonquils, and she is a positive influence but she knows her time with the Duke is only temporary and coming to an end soon...

The Jonquils decide to celebrate Christmas in the spring when they find out that the Duke doesn’t have any good memories of Christmas. They want to change that.

At the first meeting, nursemaid Robbie(Miss MacGregor) and Mr. Simpkin butt heads, but as they plan a Christmas for the Duke their hearts towards each other begin to soften…

This was so heartwarming and so typical of Sarah M. Eden! Loved it.

Hiding Christmas

Esther Hatch

Kirstine Jamieson and her grandmother are traveling from Glenbeath to England so that they can celebrate Christmas because it’s not allowed in Scotland. Isaac Parker bought the home that should’ve been her brother Stephen’s home but he did not return home from the war. Somehow Mr. Parker is roped into joining Kirstine and her grandmother's return to England after he has just returned from it. He would like to stay in Scotland, but he also would like a chance to speak with Kirstine who has not given Isaac a chance to speak with her.

Well, he got that chance and more. This was a fun read.

A Twist of Christmas

Dana LeChaminant

Graham is tired of society, of the Ton, and wishes he didn’t have these expectations that come with being the elder brother and heir, so when his younger brother Henry suggests that they switch identities for the weekend, Graham is intrigued and eventually agrees to the idea his brother proposes.

Lady Elizabeth is struggling with the change that has happened with her entering society. Everyone is treating her differently, except her friend and companion Miss Jemma Campbell, and when Beth suggests to her friend that they switch roles and identities…

I found it hard to keep remembering who was who; with who. It was a fun idea but I wasn’t sure of each person’s identity, so I struggled with that and this twist didn’t win me over. I am not crazy about stories that involve this kind of trope, it’s just not honest and a good way to start a relationship - fictional or not.

A Season to Love

Anneka R. Walker

Alice Hunt is looking for a husband and petitions God in what she believes in a private setting but she is surprised when “God” answers her. It turns out the rector,( Thomas) Mr. Perry has inadvertently invaded what was supposed to be her private prayer. Alice convinces Mr. Perry he must help her when he introduces himself as the new rector. She doesn’t realize that Thomas is very aware of her and has been for some time. He agrees to help her find a husband by doing some kind of service.

And while he is looking he keeps crossing off men because they simply don’t meet his standards, even though he has no plans of marrying himself. It turns out that the more time they spend together that they both are attracted to each other, and even though Alice has a terrible time forgetting names, she has no problem with remembering Thomas’ name - everyone else has a nickname (Mr. Side-Whiskers or Longlegs) attributed to them.

A Season to Love was a cute and amusing story of a man determined to stay single but in he did not.

I enjoyed the first two stories... and maybe I'll read the second two someday.

“The Holly and the Ivy” by Sarah M. Eden
4 stars. This was truly lovely... if you've read Seeking Persephone or the Jonquil series, etc. I adored hearing about Adam's childhood, where he had people who loved him, even if they weren't family by blood. The romance is pretty sweet, too, but there's not a lot there.

"Hiding Christmas" by Esther Hatch. 5 stars. This is a really sweet story with fake relationship and forced proximity. Isaac was good friends with Kirstine's brother who died beside him during the war. It's obvious Isaac had secret hopes that maybe Kirstine could be someone he could love... but she's kept him at a distance and resented that he lived when her brother died. But... she needs him and he forces proximity so he can have them get to know each other. They fall in love sweetly. It's short and satisfying. A delightful story.

Also, I appreciate when a historical romance teaches me something about history. And this one taught me about some Scottish history that's fascinating.

A lovely collection of stories filled with Christmas spirit in a Regency setting! The first story, The Holly and the Ivy will be enjoyed the most by readers of the author's Lancaster Family series, as it shows Adam from the first book, Seeking Persephone, as a young boy enduring the challenges that shape him as an adult. The parents from The Jonquil Brothers series (who we get to know in depth in the first book of The Gents series, Forget Me Not) play an important role in Adam's life and attempt to stabilize his cracked foundation with unconditional love even though they are not related. I love the message that we choose our family and adopt one another as we forge connections.

My favorite of this collection, Hiding Christmas taught me some fascinating historical details, like Christmas celebrations being taboo in Scotland! Kirstine's quick thinking gets her grandmother and her on the road to England for their celebration, but also gets her into a humorous quandary with a loaf of bread and the neighbor who is living the life she feels her brother should have had. I loved the journey both physical and mental that reconciles Kirstine to Isaac, and the sweet romance that develops when she lets go of the past and embraces a new relationship.

A Twist of Christmas provides a fun if implausible scenario with the main characters both choosing to swap places with another of a lower station in order to avoid their usual experiences at the house party. Of course, they fall in love with each other, but think the other is of the lower station and it won't work out. Some repetitive angst and a predictable outcome.

A Season to Love brought more humor as Alice prays aloud in an empty church for a husband, and is answered by the local clergyman who sweetly helps her in her quest to find a match. They have lovely chemistry and naturally grow closer together during her time in the village. His sense of humor reminded me of a Henry Tilney, while Alice is awkwardly endearing yet confident in herself. A perfect conclusion to the book that left me with a smile on my face.

4.5 stars!

All of these were so wholesome and cute! I adored them all! A minor qualm about the last story: there was this idea that Alice, the FMC, had to prove herself to God by acts of service, and though it may have been in jest, I would have liked to see a culminating message of faith over works, and how works are an outpouring of our faith in Christ. But I digress. All of these are so lovely & this book is definitely worth the read 💛

I was feeling in the Christmas spirit early this year, and The Holly and the Ivy only made me more excited for the holiday season! I enjoyed these novellas and definitely recommend them to fans of historical romance, during or outside of the holidays (which is approved in Sarah M. Eden’s novella by a certain young duke :)). 4/5 stars

What a fantastic novella collection! When I saw who all the fabulous authors were in this Christmas anthology, I knew it was going to be amazing. I didn’t realize it would be an absolute favorite. Every story was engaging and enjoyable. I loved the unique premises and at the end of each novella I had major book hangover until I read the next story and fell in love with it. It’s a definite must read that will leave you wanting more!

The Holly and the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden is the endearing story of Adam aka the Duke of Kielder as a little eight-year-old boy. After experiencing a disappointing Christmas alone at his boarding school, Adam is invited to spend time with Lady Julia & Lord Lucas Jonquil. This pair along with his lovable nurse Robbie decide to make up for the Christmas holidays by having their own celebrations. Along with this achingly beautiful story of a loving couple trying to help a lonely, sad little boy, is the romance between Adam’s devoted nurse Robbie and Howard, the gardener whom Lucas hires to design his famous flower garden. It’s a lovely, romantic, heartwarming story Sarah Eden fans will absolutely adore.

Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch is a fun, delightful story with two enemies, a fake marriage, and lots of surprises. I had no idea celebrating Christmas could get you in all sorts of trouble in Regency Scotland. Kirstine pretends to be married to the Englishman she bitterly despises to protect her Granny as they travel to celebrate Christmas. Though Isaac served with her brother in the war, Kirstine can’t abide him, especially when he came back and her brother did not, and purchases their family home. But as the two share a coach ride and she sees his kindness, her feelings begin to thaw. Will their fake marriage turn into something more? Loved all the swoony kisses, witty dialogue, humorous situations, and that Scottish brogue. Hanging the kissing boughs was my favorite!

A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant is a charming twist on hidden identity. Graham is tired of being pursued only for his title while his younger brother is ignored. Elizabeth feels constantly scrutinized as the daughter of an Earl and longs to just be herself. When both are invited to a Christmas house party, they decide to switch places; Graham assumes his younger brother’s identity while Elizabeth assumes her companion’s identity. But what happens when the two meet and discover they have a lot in common? Will they reveal their true identities before the charade goes too far? I loved the romance in this one. From talking to family portraits, to horseback rides, to reading together in the library, this novella totally captured my heart.

A Season to Love by Anneka R. Walker is a sweet, funny tale with a darling meet cute. When Alice goes to the church and prays aloud for a husband, she’s surprised when her prayers are literally answered, not by the Lord, but by a handsome clergyman. He agrees to help her on her husband hunt, but what happens when he looks better and better as a potential suitor? Alice is such a fun, relatable character with lots of enthusiasm and creativity, but also self doubt. Thomas builds her up and encourages her. He can’t help but fall in love with her and her antics. These two were so cute together and I enjoyed watching as their camaraderie turns to more.

This anthology collection definitely put me in the Christmas spirit. The romance in each story is sweet, clean, and swoon-worthy! It’s a favorite collection of stories I will enjoy rereading. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

The Holly and the Ivy
Sarah M. Eden
5/5
Anytime I dive into a Sarah M. Eden book, especially into the Jonquil/Lancaster universe, I have to prepare myself emotionally. I’m so invested in these families, and truly care about them, that I feel like they are my actual family and friends. And going back and finally/officially meeting the wonderful Nurse Robbie was just amazing.
This novella was a roller coaster of emotions. I felt everything from joy, to sadness, to humor, to heartbreak in this short story. It deserves all the stars and all the love in the world. The message behind the story, reconnecting with beloved characters, and seeing the positive influence of love and hope all combined to make a story so meaningful.

Hiding Christmas
Esther Hatch
5/5 stars
Wow! Does Esther know how to write that fantastic romantic chemistry or what?! And not only was her story filled with a sweet love story, but I also loved the history behind it all. I had no idea how Scottish people felt about Christmas during this time, and it was so interesting to read about how people would treat/celebrate a holiday we take for granted today.
Now back to the romance! Talk about a super cute giddy romance. I absolutely love Kirstine and Isaac and I will never look at mistletoe the same way again. I only wish this could have been a full length novel because it only wouldn’t made a great love story even better.
And as someone who has a marriage where both parties are different nationalities, I can confirm it makes it hard sometimes, but ultimately life is more fun and exciting.

A Twist of Christmas
Dana LeCheminant
5/5 stars
What a fun “twist” on a regency Christmas story! See what I did there?
I never wanted this story to end, I loved it so much, I could gush about this sweet novella all day long.
This is my first Dana LeCheminant book and now I need to read everyone other book by her. The whole concept behind this story was so much fun and such a joy to read. I loved the banter and chemistry between Graham and Beth. Another aspect of this story I loved was the perspective of the ton and the insight into characters we don’t always hear from: second sons and companions. The relationships between Graham and Henry, and Beth and Jemma enhanced the story and made me love this novella even more.
My goodness I just can’t say enough good things about his story. Seriously do yourself a favor and dive into this, sadly short but just perfect, Christmas novella.

A Season to Love
Anneka R. Walker
4/5
While this story took a bit for me to really get into it, I ended up really enjoying it. Anneka’s books are always full of sweet romance, a strong heroine and of course a swoony hero. And if I’m being 100% honest, I absolutely adored Alice the more I got to know her. She reminds me of myself because I’m extremely awkward and despite my best efforts, eternally plagued with bouts of unluckiness. I love characters who are a bit clumsy or awkward because they seem more real to me. And sweet Thomas, I loved how he wanted people to see the man behind the clergyman.
I felt a tender connection with this story and a few of the lines in it reminded me of my own relationship.
Now I just want the stories behind Alice’s sisters marriages, because those seemed like they’d be gold.
Another great Christmas story!

I look forward to these collections every year because they always have stories by some of my favorite authors!! Each of these novellas is sure to get you into the spirit of Christmas.

The Holly and the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden--We get to see Adam, Duke of Kielder, as a little boy, with his nursemaid Robbie spending time with Lord and Lady Jonquil. He didn't get to celebrate Christmas like most children do so Lucas and Julia decide to have Christmas for him even though it's springtime. This story is so sweet and tugged at my heartstrings. I could've read an entire book about Adam with Lucas and Julia Jonquil.

Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch--What a fun story this one is. It's an enemies to love, fake marriage and close proximity story with a generous dash of humor. Celebrating Christmas in Regency Scotland could land you in hot water but that didn't seem to bother Kirstine's grandma, who couldn't wait until they arrived in England to bake the Yule bread. Not wanting to eat it right then or throw it away, Kirstine has to come up with a way to hide the bread on their journey to England. Oh my heavens this one made me giggle so much but still touched my heart.

A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant--This story has not one, but two hidden identities!! Graham is tired of young ladies who are only interested in him because of his title. Elizabeth (Beth) is weary of being treated differently since intering Society. Before attending a house party Graham decides to switch places with his brother Henry, and Beth switches places with her friend and companion Jemma. Both couples, Graham and Beth and Henry and Jemma, had wonderful chemistry and it was fun to see Graham and Beth get to know each other without the pressure of their positions in Society getting in the way. This story had multiple twists in it which made it a lot of fun.

A Season to Love by Anneka R. Walker--This story was different than the usual Christmas romances. Alice goes to the church and prays out loud for a husband, as her sisters are already married and her aunt will send her back to London and choose a husband for her. The rector of the church hears her and makes a deal to help her find a husband in exchange for acts of service. I loved how Alice couldn't remember the names of her potential suitors so she made up names for them such as Mr. Side-Whiskers, Cravat, Stubby-Legs, or Mustache. This was such a cute story.

Each of these stories are sweet romances with just kisses but are still swoony. It was too hard to pick a favorite as I loved all four of them!! I received a complimentary copy for review from the publisher Covenant Communication via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is a Yuletide collection that includes novellas from four authors—Sarah Eden, Esther Hatch,, Dana LeCheminant, and Anneka Walker.

The first story is The Holly and the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden and features Adam, a young Duke of Kielder, who is struggling with the death of his father and the abandonment of his mother. His neighbors, Lord and Lady Jonquil invite him to their home and shower love on the little boy—including a Yuletide party that he’ll never forget. Adam’s nursemaid Robbie also features in the story as she finds love in the most unexpected place. A sweet story of finding family and what love truly means.

The second story is Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch. This one was a fun adventure as Kirstine is hiding her trip to London to celebrate Christmas, but gets tangled up when a little white lie turns into her pretending to be married—to Isaac, who is the only Englishman in her Scottish village, and her enemy! But as they are thrown together on their trip to England, she begins to realize that maybe the things she’s thought about Isaac aren’t true and her feelings may have turned to something she never thought she’d feel for an Englishman. Such a fun and light-hearted story.

The third story is A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant. This is a story with a lot of twists and turns as two couples hide their real identities at a house party. Elizabeth has entered society and is already weary of being treated so differently just because she’s a duke’s daughter, so she convinces her companion to take her place. Graham is also tired of his position in society and how his brother is always overlooked, so he convinces his brother to take his place. Mayhem ensues in this multi-faceted and complicated romance of who’s really romancing who and if anyone or everyone will find their happily-ever-after!

The last story is A Season to Love by Anneka Walker. Alice is praying that God will help her find a husband before she’s forced into a marriage she might not find happiness in. When her prayer is overheard by her rector, Thomas Perry, he agrees to help her find a husband. There was a lot of unexpected humor in this story as Alice and Thomas come to realize how perfect they are for each other. And the children in this story were adorable and stole all of their scenes! A sweet and surprising romance.

This collection will definitely put readers in the celebrating mood and get us ready for the upcoming holiday season!

Nothing can set a festive mood better than this Christmas anthology from four authors who know how to knock it out of the park! I have read a couple of books by Ester Hatch and the other 3 have been authors on my want to read list so I knew this was going to be good before I even started it. I loved getting to experience the stories of these 4 amazing authors together in one book. The Holly and the Ivy are historical romances full of carriage rides, sweet kisses, and romantic proposals.

The Holly and the Ivy by Sarah Eden - This is a beautiful and touching Christmas story about a young boy named Adam who is in desperate need of some hope and love after losing his father. The one constant in his life has been his nursemaid Robbie. I loved the relationship between these two and the struggle for Robbie as she has to choose between following her heart or staying a part of Adam's life. I have not read the series that this is a companion too yet so this sweet novella can definitely stand alone.

Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch - I have read a couple of novels by Esther before so I was really excited for this one. I loved the Scottish setting and was fascinated by this story. I did not know that Christmas was outlawed during this time period in Scotland. Such a great regency, enemies to lovers story with a fake relationship that turns real after Kristen and Issac get to know each other on a deep level. I adored the fun mistletoe hanging scene that was filled with sweet kisses.

A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant - This story was so charming. It had a dual identity swap and a super cute romance! I adored both Graham and Beth and could understand why they each wanted a break from their lives. I could also understand why his younger brother was so willing to step up and play the part of Lord Barlett since he didn’t receive much attention as himself. Beth was so feisty and unconventional for the time. I loved her! The way her and Graham meet made me giggle and the ending is sigh worthy. So romantic! I loved this one!

A season to Love Anneka Walker - Alice was a fun and relatable character. She struggles with feeling worthy of love and decides she needs to do service at church to be seen as good enough to find a husband. Her sisters are both married and happy and she feels she just doesn’t measure up. Throw in a meddling aunt and she feels even more desperate. There were many moments that made me smile and I loved it when her brother-in-laws step in at the end so Alice and Thomas will finally admit their true feelings for each other.

All four of these stories are amazing and well written. The content is clean and sweet. These stories definitely make you want to curl up and grab your hot cocoa.

Oh the sweetness of this regency novella collection! Each book was so different but ever so sweet. Honestly, if you are looking for a feel good Christmas themed read, this should be the one you snuggle in with. It's a rock star line up of authors and each story is fantastic. I loved each of them for different reasons. There will be no calling out a favorite here.

There is the love of family, Christmas traditions, matchmaking, sneaking, faking, bumbling, dancing, and yes, some sweet kissing. Each story will make you smile and warm your heart.

Oh, and I love the cover. 💚

review of Sarah M. Eden's story only

Nurse Robbie has been nursemaid to the young Duke of Keilder since he was born. Currently only 8 years old, he's been shunted off to a boarding house at Harrow with other lads too young to formally enroll in school. She knows her time as Adam's nurse is coming to an end and Robbie feels she's at a crossroads. She dearly loves the little Duke and he needs her desperately. Now, at nearly 40, she must find a new position or retire. Retire to do what, exactly? Any chance at love and a family of her own passed her by long ago. Howard Simpkin is a gardener hired by Lord Jonquil to build a garden at Brier Hill. Mr. Simpkin is eager to do a good job and please the young lord for if Lord Jonquil is pleased, he'll recommend Howard's services to other lords and so on. Howard knows from experience that Lords tend to be persnickety so when he spies a child on the property, he knows to keep an eye on the boy and warn his nurse off. Adam, Duke of Kielder, is a lonely, unhappy, unloved child grieving the loss of his father. When he's invited to visit to Lord and Lady Jonquil, he's certain the invitation is to enhance their prestige. After all, everyone loves to have dukes come visit them. When he arrives with Nurse Robbie, he's uncertain of himself but soon the newly wedded couple embrace the young duke and his nurse and have him acting his age. When Adam begins to notice changes in his nurse's behavior, he's concerned and feels protective of her. When he realizes Robbie's choices affect him, he has a difficult decision to make.

Oh Adam! I read this story for the Jonquil connection. I remembered a hint of entertaining the young duke was mentioned in Lily of the Valley and I also remembered the garden in Charming Artemis. This novella is the origin story of the garden at Brier Hill where Lucas spent time with Charlie when the older boys were away at school. As always with this series, I teared up a few times towards the end, thinking of Adam and how much Artemis is like him and thinking of Lucas and Julia's love story and how it was tragically cut short.

Julia is an amazing rock. I don't know how she can bear all that loss and I can't wait to read more of her early years in the rest of the Gents series. Lucas is totally ADHD. He's so energetic, always moving, thinking, doing something. At least he can be quiet and slow when climbing a mountain. He's so kind and loving towards young Adam. He's a good mix of father figure/older brother and mentor. Both Lucas and Julia help Adam in ways he can't understand yet. Adam just breaks my heart. I can see why Julia is drawn to him. She had two loving parents and when her mother died, she had her father to grieve with. Adam has no one. His mother comes across as an awful, selfish person but I know from Seeking Persephone she's not as bad as she appears. Poor little Adam doesn't even know how to be a kid because his father was a stuffy duke and didn't know how to relate to a small child. He raised Adam not to need other people, completing not realizing or caring that CHILDREN need love and affection and kindness to help them grow. How can he be a benevlolent duke if he doesn't have that foundation? The answer, as we know, is, he's not. His early years with Julia and Lucas could have made him an honorary Jonquil like Crispin, who is kind of stuffy but alas, it was not meant to be. SOB SOB!

The primary characters in this story, besides Adam, are Nurse Robbie MacGregor is not a dour Scot. She may be Scottish born but she went into service at 10 and has been in service for nearly 30 years, working all over the kingdom. She's loved and left all manner of children but none like Adam. I think after only 8 years, he's the child of her heart. She knows he needs her more than most children and his needs are unique. She's at the mercy of her employer, his mother, who does not come home often enough to understand her own child. Robbie sees all, knows all but can't speak. Her relationship with Howard Simpkin gets off to a rocky start but they soon become friends. She can confide in him but can she allow her heart to open to him knowing that they can not be more than friends?

Howard Simpkin is not my favorite hero. He must be under the influence of the Jonquil hulver headed lovesick curse or something. He gets off to a rocky start with Robbie but then becomes attracted to her. Howard is kind of arrogant and snippy at first. He has no idea who he's dealing with or why this young lord has an interest in gardens. I loved watching Lucas plan the garden and choosing certain flowers for Julia. I know each of the flowers has a meaning and a purpose. I spotted forget-me-nots and lily of the valley!! Howard is passionate about plotting his gardens and has big ideas. I can see why he wouldn't want a small boy coming along and ruining it but why make assumptions? After all, this kid is the special guest OF Lord and Lady Jonquil for whatever reason so wouldn't they be unhappy if he made their young friend unhappy? Howard can spin it as concern, not wanting the kid to be hurt, but he mainly only cares about the garden.

Through getting to know Adam because of Robbie, Howard begins to unbend and remember what it feels like to be a kid again. I loved the magical Christmas celebrations, even though it's actually spring! It was fun to learn about the traditions of that time and in various parts of the country. It was sweet how Adam chose which ones HE wanted to celebrate and the Jonquils let him. I can imagine what Christmases will be like when their boys are growing up if each one gets to choose which traditions they want to carry on! Howard comes across as more appealing once he starts having fun doing something other than gardening but I don't feel a strong connection between him and Robbie.

The epilogue features a cameo by one infant Lord Fallowgill, the future Earl of Lampton (otherwise known as Philip! or Flip). His cameo shapes his future LOL!

This is another heartwarming, tearjerking story in Sarah M. Eden's Jonquil/Lancaster series. Read this if you're familiar with the characters and their stories but I wouldn't say it works well as a stand alone about two NEW characters. You should at least meet Adam in Seeking Persephone and Lucas and Julia in Forget Me Not.

This was such a great book of short stories by some of my favorite authors! You'll definitely want to read this one!

Readers who love the Lancaster/Jonquil/Gents series will love The Holly and the Ivy by @sarah_m_eden. It has young Adam, his nurse Robbie and Lucas and Julia Jonquil!! Finally meeting Robbie was so amazing! I love that we get to learn more about how Adam grew up and why he is the way he is throughout the series I mentioned! I already loved him, but after reading this novella I just love him even more! I felt so bad for him and all he went through with his father passing and his distant mother! I just wanted to jump into the story and give Adam a hug! 😥This story seriously put me on an emotional roller-coaster!

I love coming back to these characters and I'm so glad Sarah has continued writing stories in this same world! It's like being reacquainted with an old friend!

Hiding Christmas by @authorestherhatch is the second novella in this Christmas anthology and let me just say that Esther really knows how to write great chemistry between her characters and this story was further evidence of that! 😍 I absolutely love all things Scottish and the way she wrote about the history of Christmas in Scotland was phenomenal! 👨‍🍳💋I absolutely loved the chemistry between these two characters and the way they learned to trust each other. Oh my heck! And the meddling grandma was so perfect! 🤣

A Twist of Christmas by @authordanalecheminant is a story of double identity swaps between two nobles and I loved it! I don't usually read books with multiple love stories because it gets a little confusing with who's who but Dana does a wonderful job with this one!! I have only read a couple of her books, but after reading this novella I will definitely be checking her blacklist!!

A Season of Love by @authorannekawalker

Oh my heck! I loved this one!! Anneka always knows how to write hilarious meet cutes! 😂I love how in this story she wrote such great characters with great chemistry! I loved that they could just be themselves around each other! The banter was absolutely perfect!

I received an eARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a review.

I must admit I am generally not a huge fan of short stories, but I always end up reading these Christmas stories because I want to read more about the Duke of Kielder by Sarah M. Eden. And this time around did not disappoint! I loved her story. However, I was also pleasantly surprised Esther Hatch's Christmas story too. Hiding Christmas kept me entertained and hoping for the sweet happy ending. A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant was a rather fun story as well and I must admit I had a hard time connecting with the characters in Anneka R. Walker's story, A Season to Love.

All in all, a fun set of romantic stories to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Thank you Covenant Communications and NetGalley for the eARC! All opinions are my own.

This is what dreams are made of when it comes to a stellar anthology! All four novellas were absolutely adorable in their own right and all are ones I will be rereading for sure. This is probably the best anthology I have read this year and one of the best in a series of phenomenal Christmas anthologies produced by Covenant Communications. If I could give it ten stars, I would. Each novella is a winner and I HIGHLY recommend this anthology!
The Holly and the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden will resonate with fans of Eden's Jonquil and Lancaster series. While the romance was sweet between Robbie and Howard, I was drawn in by the glimpses into Adam's childhood and relationship with Lucas and Julia Jonquil the most.
Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch was such a fun mix of Scottish romance and Regency romance. True to her skill as the queen of kissing in clean romance, Esther delivered the best kisses in this novella with some mistletoe boughs and a fun competition. I loved the humor and the heart.
A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant was a standout in so many ways. The plot was so fun for this type of story and when I finished reading it all I wanted was more Regency romances by LeCheminant. I was completely hooked and loved the dual POV.
A Season of Love by Anneka Walker had me laughing out loud right from the start with a memorable meet cute like no other. I laughed multiple times and loved the originality of her characters and the sweet SWEET romance. It was also fun to have this connect to her other novellas in previous anthologies.
I could legit gush and gush about this book but I know that no one wants a review that goes on forever. Just know that it is AMAZING and hands down a must read! Seriously, ten stars for each novella. Don’t miss this!
I received an advance reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"The Holly and the Ivy" by Sarah M. Eden

Oh, my heart! This special story is a must-read for every Jonquil/Lancaster family enthusiast. Witnessing some of the childhood of Adam, Duke of Kielder, the future Dangerous Duke, from his youthful viewpoint is utterly heartbreaking. Witnessing his interactions with Lord and Lady Jonquil, beloved future parents of those delightful Jonquil brothers, is utterly heartwarming. This story brought me to tears as well as laughter. How this author manages to write Adam's point of view in a way that is authentically childlike while also authentically the brooding adult character we've grown to admire truly astonishes me. If it wouldn't spoil the delightful experience of reading this story, I would share some of the hilarious dialogue that is extremely Adam...so much so that I swear the author is winking at her fans. This story makes me want to reread all of the other books, because now I'm certain I've missed nuances. I had quite an epiphany realizing that maybe Adam's issue with Philip as adults is not so much because of Philip's dandy affectations but more like jealousy of the parents and upbringing Philip was blessed with that Adam only got a taste of. And maybe Adam thinks Philip doesn't behave like someone who deserves those things that Adam yearned for.

"Hiding Christmas" by Esther Hatch

What a unique and clever story with delightful characters! I would love to read more about them. The love story is so sweet, and the protagonists' shared grief had me in tears. Beautifully done.

"A Twist of Christmas" by Dana LeCheminant

Quite a twist, indeed! A fun story with charming characters and lovely HEA for all.

"A Season to Love" by Anneka R. Walker

I adored the witty banter between the protagonists and particularly appreciated how relatable they were, with authentic vulnerabilities. The secondary characters were also well-drawn and entertaining. A sweetly satisfying tale.

Highly recommend this fantastic anthology by these talented authors!

What a delightful collection of sweet Christmas romances! I enjoyed each one, as they were all well-written and had such wonderful characters.

THE HOLLY AND THE IVY is sure to delight Sarah M. Eden fans, as it is all about the young Duke of Kielder. I love the beautiful messages of family and celebration.

An enemies-to-love from Scotland to England, with a dash of a fake marriage, is the premise to HIDING CHRISTMAS. I completely enjoyed this light-hearted holiday jaunt.

Mistaken identities abound in A TWIST OF CHRISTMAS and were the cause of much entertainment. These lovely characters stole the show in this Christmas house party.

A SEASON TO LOVE had me secondhand blushing, as Alice is overheard asking God for a husband by the rector in this holiday romance. This gentle tale was the perfect way to wrap up this collection.

Content: all stories are free from anything other than very mild romance.

This collection of Christmas novellas is by far my favorite! I loved each and every different story and wish there were more! The Holly & the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden is an emotional story of the little Duke and his nursemaid Robbie’s determination to see him loved and protected. This story brought so many emotions with it, I could have read 100 more pages.
Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch was a story of a Scottish girl named Kirstine who was bound and determined to celebrate Christmas with her grandma without anyone Scottish finding out. Trying to hide the yule bread turned into a complete mess and Kirstine found herself in a completely unusual situation. I loved this one.
A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant was by far my favorite of the four! I loved how the brothers and then Beth and Jennie decided to switch places for a house party! Oh my goodness this story had me laughing and at points internally yelling at the characters to just tell the other one who they really were! This story kept me on my toes until the very end.
A Season to Love by Anneka R. Walker kept me on my toes! I loved Alice! From her fiery hair to her unpredictable personality, she kept me smiling from ear to ear. She was genuine and so completely unsure of herself, I just wanted her to see how amazing she was. Would she get her happily ever after?
Four amazing authors, four fantastic novellas! Each one unique and lovely, you should treat yourself this season and buy yourself a copy of The Holly & the Ivy!

*Updated - I listened to the audio version of Sarah M. Eden's story, the first of the collection and I enjoyed it so much! The narrator did a wonderful job of the various accents, including Nurse Robbie's Scottish accent.*

The Holly and the Ivy was a fun Christmas collection of sweet Regency tales. I had read two of the authors before and two of them were new to me. And although the novellas may link to other stories written by these authors, they all four were entirely enjoyable as stand alone titles.

In The Holly and the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden, I loved getting to reconnect with characters from some of my favorite books. It was wonderful to get to see Lord and Lady Jonquil again, from the series The Gents. And the young Duke of Kielder is a character that comes into their lives in the first book of that series. He is also the grown man and main character of the first book that I read by this author titled, Seeking Persephone. But the main characters are his nurse, Robbie, and Mr. Simpkin, who has been hired to plan a garden at the grand home. I liked the progression of the relationship between these two. Their first meeting did not go very well, but it all improved from there! A very sweet story.

In Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch, I liked the tension that existed between the two main characters from the very start. Kirstine finds herself in quite the situation and Isaac steps in to save the day. He also hoped their time together would provide him the opportunity to finally connect with Kirstine and share more about the time he spent on the battlefield with her brother. I really enjoyed the way Kirstine began to feel drawn toward the man she had sworn to dislike.

In A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant, I was at first concerned that I would feel awkward about this storyline. I am not usually a fan of people pretending to be other people or switching identities. Yet, this novella was actually quite charming and I ended up liking the way things moved along. The connection that the two main characters felt for each other was charming and made me feel happy for the way things worked out for them.

In A Season to Love by Anneka R. Walker, it was clear that these two main characters were perfect for each other. It just took them a bit to figure that out! I liked the way they connected in friendship almost immediately. Alice had a lot of trouble feeling worthy in comparison to her sisters and family, but I liked the way that Thomas saw her for the gem she was from the beginning. These two were quite the pair and made incorrect assumptions about what each other were feeling quite often. But things eventually resolved and headed for a happily ever after, of course.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book on NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. This was a cute collection of wholesome holiday romances, though some were a bit difficult to get into. The first story, the Holly and the Ivy, started more sad than I was prepared for, but it was ultimately a sweet story. The second story, Hiding Christmas, started with what felt like a ridiculous premise, but I didn't know there was a time where Christmas celebrations were banned in Scotland so it was cool to learn something new. Of the four stories included, these first two had to do a lot with grief (loss of parent, loss of sibling/grandchild). The third story, A Twist of Christmas, started with me hating the hero, because who did he think he was? Again it was a cute story, but it dragged a bit and then concluded quickly, and I think I might have preferred to have some insight into the other couple (Jemma and Henry) instead. The last story, A Season to Love, might have been my favorite, especially since I really liked Mr. Perry! It also sounded like the sisters had their own stories as well as this one focused on the youngest. I'll likely be going back to read the stories by this author about the other sisters! Overall, this was a nice collection, but be prepared that some stories deal with grief, and I would describe each romance as wholesome (no spicy scenes).

What a charming Christmas collection! These four historical fiction novellas were a delight. And THAT COVER!! Stunning.

The Holly & the Ivy by Sarah M. Eden
4⭐️
While it took a bit of time to grow on me, this story was sweet. It was nice to see Adam rediscover living as a child. Lord & Lady Jonquil were so absolutely precious with Adam; the struggles of this poor child broke my heart. And I really liked Robbie & Howard.

Hiding Christmas by Esther Hatch
4⭐️
Featuring Scotland, a fake marriage relationship, and a hilariously meddlesome & opinionated granny! The enemies to lovers angle was fun, and Isaac & Kirstine’s banter was top notch. Also, the fact that Kirstine & Granny had to hide the fact they were celebrating Christmas and had to go to England to do so was a very interesting historical anecdote. I will note that there was a bit too much blatant lying for my comfort.

A Twist of Christmas by Dana LeCheminant
4⭐️
A Christmas of switched identity… times two! Two brothers & a lady and her maid switch places for Christmas and get a glimpse into each others’ world. Also, I love Graham’s protectiveness of his brother
This was the first historical piece I’ve read from Dana although I adore her rom coms! While certainly different, she has an amazing touch!

A Season to Love by Anneka R. Walker
4.5⭐️
This story was my favourite of the bunch! From the first chapter I was grinning like crazy. Thomas and Alice have the best banter & the sweetest relationship.
