He’s gone behind enemy lines countless times before. But this time, he’s going alone.
Foster Quinn is more than a former Force Recon Marine. He’s a husband. A father. A faithful brother to his teammates. When one of them is killed during a high-risk operation to track down a dangerous arms dealer, Foster struggles to balance his roles as a dedicated family man and an elite warrior. Despite his inner demons―or maybe because of them―Foster can’t walk away from his brothers.
Then he gets the chance to step in where his best friend left off, assuming a cover identity in Iran that will get him close to the arms dealer and pave the way for a critical mission. On his own in a new country, he must carefully choose who to trust. An Iranian taxi driver. An American hunter. A British oil executive. One wrong move could spell disaster. Not just for the mission, but for Foster.
The clock is ticking. A team of tier-one warriors is set to plummet through the night sky in enemy territory. They’ve trained for this. But their success hinges on just one man.

“How could you spend a week fighting alongside somebody then ask him to wade into the fray and provide cover for you to make your escape?"
Silent Horizons opens with a bang! The quote above shows Foster Quinn’s loyalty to his brothers-in-arms and how he worked in a team. And then he finds himself alone. On a solo mission, he must scout and procure the items crucial to a SEAL unit’s mission. His best friend’s death fueled his desire for revenge, which made this a great military thriller. I didn’t think he’d make it out alive.
Things that could be improved: There were some moments that the story slipped into omniscient pov. In addition, Foster claims he understood what Seth was saying one paragraph above before vocalizing that he didn’t understand the philosophy. All in all this was a great start to a series.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. All words are my own.
I have read Silent Horizons by Chad Robichaux, it's the first book in a new series where we get to follow Foster Quinn in his struggles with leaving the marine corps and stepping into the espionage world and at the same time trying to hold his family together. I found the book well written but it never felt like something for me. I couldn't get into it. That is on me, it has nothing to do with the author and his assistant Jack Stewart who has written a great series that I follow. You have to form your own opinion on this book. The premise for the story was very good and some of the problems Quinn faced where well researched. I must thank Tyndale Fiction and Edelweiss for letting me read this advance copy.
Good book. The writers definitely make it feel real, delving into the emotions associated with the missions, tasks, and sense of duty, but at the same time dealing with the sacrifices endured, not only by the military members, but their families as well. I also greatly appreciated how Foster Quinn often leaned on his faith in God during many of his trials and hardships. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
Silent Horizons is a Special Access Program for Advanced Force Operations. Foster Quinn is the newest operative, sent to finish a job his friend started -finding the buyer of suicide drones used in Ukraine. Mostly set in Iran, this is an action packed story about honor, loyalty, betrayal, and sacrifice.
This appears to be book one in a series. While the main story is wrapped up, there are a couple of threads definitely still untied. Foster is a devoted husband and father who is also a Force Recon Marine. He is torn between his duty to his family and his duty to his brothers in arms, especially after his friend is killed.
This is an entry into the sparsely populated genre of Christian military thrillers. Foster is a believer with a believing wife he is faithful to. Expect prayer and discussions of faith and God.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of Joel C. Rosenberg and lovers of military thrillers.
Family friendly but with the expected violence of the genre.
Thanks to NetGalley and Tyndall House. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
An absolutely amazing book for his first work of fiction. His style of writing and his detailed writing will make him a fan favorite. The action was fast and furious, but when the action lulls he builds the anticipation and tension where you can’t put the book down till you see what happens. Looking forward to his next one.
Another great military book full of suspense and great story telling! This book tackles a lot of aspects of military life right off the bat and incorporates the struggles and perseverance of the main character throughout. I’m super excited for the next iteration of Foster!
For Foster Quinn, Force Recon Marine special ops operator, his brothers in arms are everything, even if his long stretches away from home is straining his marriage and keeping him away from his little girl. But when one of his brothers is killed, Foster can't say no to the clandestine mission to bring in the Russian arms dealer responsible.
The authors are former military, and it really shows. Like when I was watching the Terminal List, I might not understand all these terms these guys are yelling at each other, but it feels real so I just roll with it. Sometimes the text will clarify the terms, sometimes you infer based on the context, but it added an extra layer of realism.
I also appreciated the way Foster isn't some stoic military dude. He has internal struggles and sometimes has to consciously recall his training to center himself. He also has some touches of PTSD the text lightly touches on. One of the author's bios at the end mentions work with veterans experiencing PTSD, which added to the context of the story.
My main issue with the text was how the preface starts out action packed... and while there is some action throughout, it's mostly towards the end. I kept waiting for that scene to occur and that made everything leading up to it a little dull in comparison. I also was astonished at how many foreigners (Americans, Brits, Russians) were running around Iran as I always thought the regime was stricter but clearly I'm no expert.
Some of the twists I did see coming, though that is likely because a lot of military thrillers go the same way where, by trying to surprise you as to who the real baddie is, tend to have the same reveal every time.
Overall, I enjoyed this ripped-from-the-headlines thriller. It is also lightly Christian in the sense that Foster draws strength from his faith and there is no swearing or sex (though implied passion with his wife off page). However, it was not "preachy" so both people of faith and not will enjoy it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy.
Thank you to Chad Robichaux, Tyndale House Publishers, and NetGalley for giving me an eARC of this novel to read and review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Foster Quinn is a former Force Recon Marine who has been sent into Iran undercover in order to apprehend a Russian who probably had his best friend killed and is buying drones to use against the Ukraine. To do this he has to make the decision to leave his wife and daughter. Again! Many things go awry while he is gone, but he also has the help of some great people.
This book was riveting! It kept me invested from beginning to end. I love the fact that is a book that will appeal to a different demographic of readers than the average book that is labeled Christian Fiction. It didn’t hurt that my home parish was mentioned in the book- lol! On a serious note, the main character of this book was solid and the supporting characters were interesting. The plot twists were spot on and very “twisty.” My one issue with the book was that there were a couple of times a curse word was used and several times they were implied. This book is labeled Christian Fiction and I don’t think that those words are necessary in a CF book. That being said, I enjoyed that Foster was a man of faith and that it showed through in most of his actions. He wasn’t perfect, but he knew what to do when he struggled. The faith was there, but not preachy!
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves war or combat type movies or stories. If you are sensitive to some cursing (it’s only a couple of times) or combat type situations then you might want to skip this one.
3.5 stars but rounding up. I enjoyed this book. It was easy to get into the storyline and the pacing. Overall Pros: likable central characters and nice action scenes. Overall Cons: some of the “twists” were telegraphed a bit too much for the experienced reader in this genre. What I’d like to see less of in the next entry: I appreciate how the author went to lengths to delve into psychological aspects of military life and warfare. However, I hope that in future entries the author lets the reader draw their conclusions about the characters’ emotional states from the dialogue and action sequences rather than the author explaining the character’s emotions. While this was not a problem for me in this book, I think the author can grow by trusting his reader a bit more to understand sentiments and emotions through his descriptions of scenes and character actions without the commentary. What I want to see more of: tight plot lines set in real world scenarios. I think this author has a bright future ahead of him, and I look forward to seeing what he does with Foster’s character.
Spoilers ahead, but notes for me when picking up the next entry in the series: we still don’t know who killed Robert and who was with him when he died. We also don’t know who killed Luke…and what secrets died with him.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Solid 4.5 stars. I rounded up to 5 stars because I think this has the potential to be a strong series like A&W's Tier One. Although there was not constant action throughout this book, there was more than enough suspense in the story to keep me tense. I didn't want to put the book down. I enjoyed the settings in this story (Iran, Germany, and Virginia). Also, I could definitely feel the authors love of God and country in this book so that was worth adding a half star.
There were a few places where the wording was repetitive almost word for word. Because the story jumped back in time, I understand why it was done in one place, but it did occur in a couple of other places. Not a big deal; it just felt like it was filler. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Ray Porter. He did an excellent job as usual.
Lastly, I have to say it makes me smile when these former military authors name characters for each other. Enjoyed seeing Jeff Wilson as a character in this book.
Silent Horizons by Chad Robichaux and Jack Stewart is the first book in a new series that introduces Foster Quinn, a former Force Recon Marine juggling the roles of husband, dad, and covert operator. When a teammate falls trackin’ a shady arms dealer, Foster embarks on a solo mission in Iran, posing as someone else to thwart a weapons deal. This highstakes thriller keeps my pulse racin’ and my faith stirred, leaving me eager to discover what unfolds next.
Foster’s adventure is a thrilling rush, as he navigates the dangerous streets of Tehran, making tough decisions about who to trust, an Iranian cabbie, an American hunter, and a British executive, all while a team of elite warriors relies on him to pull through. Robichaux and Stewart, both seasoned veterans with a deep understanding of the military, weave a raw and realistic story that is filled with heart pounding action and a sense of brotherhood that feels like family. The faith element, Foster’s journey of self discovery and his reliance on God through his struggles, lands deeply, resonating with the themes of faith and community that I find meaningful. It even sparked my curiosity about the realworld toll of covert operations, leading me down a rabbit hole of exploration into the world of special forces life.
Silent Horizons concludes with a powerful impact, leaving you pondering the implications of its message. It embodies grit, soul, and a nod to freedom that I deeply appreciate. The book skillfully balances the mission driven plot with Foster’s unwavering devotion to his family, making it more than just a shoot ‘em up. If you’re a fan of thrillers with a faith driven core, this book is a gem that offers an immersive and thought-provoking reading experience. I am grateful for a story that is as authentic as it is thrilling.
First fiction by Chad Robichaux, a Former Force Recon Marine, with help from author and former Top Gun Pilot Jack Stewart. The story is about a Force Recon Marine who resigns in order to go undercover in Iran to set up the capture of a Russian Arms Dealer who is buying/selling Suicide Drones to the Russians for use in Ukraine. Suspenseful with a few twists. This is the first of a series about this character.
I generally read books written by women, mostly because Christian fiction is dominated by women writers. I have really enjoyed books written by James Rubart, Charles Martin, James R Hannibal, Travis Thrasher and Steven James and wanted to expand on my short list of favorite male authors. I picked this book because I also enjoy paramilitary plots. Foster was a man torn between his sworn fealty to his country and his love for his family. His strong sense of justice that drove him in his mission warred constantly with his need for his wife and daughter and sense of guilt and remorse. His being embedded in Iran for the covert operation felt real and I could feel Foster's stress and tension in every step of his mission. Intrigue and danger followed Foster and huge plot twists (there are more than one!) put literal grenades in the story. It was definitely a fast-paced military thriller that readers will enjoy. I unfortunately did not understand all the technical terms regarding the military nor weaponry. Oftentimes I felt lost during Foster's descriptions of weapons and events; the conversations between Foster and his military people were difficult to decipher at times. Foster felt a bit two-dimensional as the main character. Though the mission of finding the bad guy was the main point of the story, it would have been nice to know Foster at a deeper level.
I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Tyndale House Publishers via Interviews and Reviews and NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
If you like a good political thriller, this book is for you! The plot is very relevant to the present. The storyline is easy to follow and had a mix of both twists that I saw coming and twists that I didn’t see coming. I truly enjoyed bringing the perspective of the internal struggle of choosing between military and family into the story.
A brilliant tag team of authors leading us into the Special Ops world. Loyalty to Family and Country lead the way in this one along with the multitude of sacrifice that our fighters give daily. This could turn into one heck of a series and I’m here for all of it. Thanks to NetGalley for the read.
"Silent Horizons," the first in a new military thriller series by Chad Robichaux and Jack Stewart, draws on the authors' elite military backgrounds.
The narrative focuses on Foster Quinn, a Marine troubled by his personal demons, who returns home to discover his close friend Robert James has been killed while trying to dismantle an international arms network. As a tribute to his friend, Quinn undertakes an off-the-books mission in Iran to finish what James started and halt the arms trade, navigating a treacherous environment filled with double agents and shifting loyalties.
Quinn's journey is not just about external conflict; it deeply explores his internal struggles as a warrior, father, and husband, adding an emotional depth to the action-packed storyline. Chad Robichaux's personal experiences, including his service as a USMC veteran & DoD contractor and his part in the founding of the Mighty Oaks Foundation—a nonprofit offering faith-based recovery programs to military and first responders—lend authenticity and emotional resonance to the novel, making it a compelling read beyond the typical military thriller.
This book is not action-packed like Tier One or the Jack Carr books, but it has many great spy moments. Also, it shows the inner conflict between duty as a soldier and the husband and father. I enjoyed this book a lot and can’t wait for more to come.
I absolutely love book in this genre but I've avoided them because of the numerous way they violate God. THIS book honors God in so many ways. The language is clean all the way through and there are zero sex scenes. Which proves one can honor God and write such an outstanding action thriller novel. Chad Robichaux has delivered an amazing action-packed novel you can tell is based on personal experience. I'm a 20 year US Army veteran with three combat deployments to Iraq and I can spot when there's a lot of fakery. There isn't a lot in this book. The story you read is one the author is familiar with from his former duties in Marine MARSOC and beyond. This provides a level of authenticity to every level of the book few can do as well as Chad did. I'm so looking forward to the next book that it feels like I'm waiting on a Time on Target fire mission to be executed. Well done Chad and here's to many more God glorying novels!
I am a huge fan of Jack Stewart's Battle Born series, and his cowriting credit was what got me to give it a whirl- that, and Ray Porter's narration. While I missed out on the dog fights and car chases I love in Battle Borne novels, this was a gripping thriller and kept me engaged to the end. I felt the segments about prayer and angels that popped up near the end broke my immersion somewhat, as they struck me as a bit out of place- but at the same time, that may well be a subjective reaction to reading it. All in all it was enjoyable, suspenseful, and a solid 4.5 stars.
I REALLY hope Chad writes a follow up to this book! I can’t wait to see what is next in store for Foster! I also feel like Foster’s story is a personification of Chad’s life in a way.
Silent Horizons really pulled me in. What stood out most was how it got deep into the stress, pressure, and mental weight of being a Marine, especially one juggling deployments with being a family man. Foster Quinn isn’t just some already-made badass; this book shows the becoming. It’s rare to see the stepping stones of how someone evolves into that elite tier, how he earns trust, builds assets, and creates connections with people like a local taxi driver or a British oil exec in Iran. You’re watching him become what other books start with guys like James Reece or Jason Bourne. This one shows the arc that makes someone into that.
I also liked how it mixes grief and vengeance with international intelligence and real-world geopolitics. Foster’s navigating both emotional trauma and elite mission strategy, and that tension felt honest. He’s after the killer of his friend, but there’s layers, smuggling, power players, trust games. And the ending? It sets up the next book perfectly with a thread from his friend’s past that still needs to be unraveled. I’m definitely in for the next one.
This my first time reading Chad Robichaux but not my first time reading Jack Stewart. Jack’s work is crisp and rock solid and rooted in experience and truth. Now I know Robichaux’s is as well. This was a great book told with the knowledge Chad gained as a Recon Marine and, from what I can tell, was about as real as they get. I can’t wait for the Foster Quinn sequel.
I enjoy this type of suspense genre, but many books include language/content that I don’t enjoy. This was a wonderful exception and now I need to read book two as soon as it’s out. The pacing was not intense throughout, but it ramped up in the last 15 or so chapters.
Not the most pretty or polished writing style....but still an engaging story that feels like it's probably very authentic to the experience of service at elite levels. Foster is a very *human* MC and you definitely root for him.
