Strange things are happening in the small town of Canton, North Carolina. Megan and her friends should be enjoying summer vacation and the end of the school year, but instead find themselves caught up in a nightmare.
Something is killing people in the woods. Something that isn't human. Now the question isn't how to spend the summer, but will anyone in Canton survive it?
Surprisingly this ended with survivors! I’ve just gotten accustomed to all Eric S Brown books being of a similar mold to one another. This had some differences from the norm and didn’t involve the military. Just police and citizens with loads of firepower battling a group of angry bigfoot reigning down on their small town. You get what you go in expecting here, with no frills or surprises. Lots of action, explosions, gunfire, creature feature-esque gore, etc. Much like I’ve said after reading so many Eric S Brown books, I think he is a solid writer, and that’s my main reason for continuing to read his works. But I just wish there was more variety in his offerings, especially in the dozens of bigfoot/yeti based stories he’s written. Perhaps, as an idea, there could be one where the bigfoot come out of hiding and teach the humans how to cook gourmet meals? I know it’s a little out there, but you know that you’d read it. And enjoy it. I know that I sure would, too.
I have to give the author a big hand , this book has a survivor and she is locked and loaded for Sasquatch! After seeing what they did to her hometown, she grabbed .50 caliber guns and other supplies from dead soldiers and a Jeep and is hunting the monsters!! Yes 🙌 you go girl kick Bigfoots ass!
dropped a star because this story left a lot of unanswered questions, like where did the foots come from and why were they all stirred up, and the end just stopped and we didn\t know what happened to the people or the foots, lastly the constantan use of frag for the other f word seemed it was on every page .
This one had me early on. The setup was decent, the pacing worked, and while it’s not exactly award-winning literature, I was ready to chalk it up as a solid, fun creature feature. Three-quarters of the book delivered exactly what you’d expect: chaos, gore, and just enough tension to keep things interesting. I was comfortably on track to give it four stars.
And then... the ending.
The author just had to put his big foot in it. This isn’t literary prose—we’re not here for experimental, thoughtful endings. We’re here for payoff, tension, and that satisfying end to a fun ride. Unfortunately, this one left me more frustrated than entertained. It was so bad that I doubt that I will read any other books by this author.
So, enjoyable in parts, and I’ll give credit where it’s due—the premise had legs. But the finish let it down badly. A reluctant 3 stars, which probably should be no more than 2.5 stars.
Eric does it again. His Bigfoot books are excellent when you just want to read a fast paced action book that is easy to read and you don't have to try to figure everything out. I would rate this one as one of his best books I have read so far and I have read most of them. Where did they come from? What stirred them up into a killing frenzy? Who knows and who cares but the characters are left to deal with it any way they can or die trying. Mostly die trying; the beasts can be killed with the proper application of firepower the problem is they move very fast and attack usually in groups. Their immense size and strength can crush armored car doors and bones as easy as crushing a Styrofoam cup. Their hard muscle can absorb bullets like raindrops but enough in the right spots work on them. Interesting read, if you like nonstop action you will dig this one.
I loved this book because I know where Canton, NC is. My grandfather and his brothers and sisters along with a bunch of cousins, lived in Canton for years and I loved visiting there. It's a lot different now, I'm sure because my great aunt and uncle both walked to work and never owned a car until my aunt was in her mid 50's and learned to drive. My aunt was a nurse at the doctor's office and my uncle worked at the paper mill. Anyway, about the book. It was very interesting to me especially because I love to read about Sasquatches and Big foots. You will enjoy this book a lot because of all the action. Give it a try and enjoy reading it. And if you know what Canton looks like now, please don't tell me. I like to keep the memories of back then.
Another Bigfoot horror story only this time the story involves several Sasquatch attacking a small mountain town. It makes sense why the beasts are attacking the citizens, but I did not understand that if they have been there this whole time and did not like the humans living on their land, then why would they wait until now to attack them?
This story really was just written to give horror fans a quick and easy read filled with blood and countless kills. I did enjoy the action the story had to off, but this book would have probably worked better as a film script for a SyFy movie.
Great if you like a repeating story line. People bother Bigfoot. Bigfoot attacks. People are killed and then others seek to avenge their friends or family, only to become part of the next Sasquatch hot meal.
This was exactly what I was in the mood for - a quick, violent monster story with plenty of violence and gore. Don't read this if you're looking for strong character development, but if you just want a "bigfoot goes wild," story, this is for you.
I listened to this on audible. It was an enjoyable story. Something I've come to learn is that most of Eric's books are just copies of each other, which is annoying. I wish there was more verity but besides that, this was full of action, explosions, and blood. It was a little slow in my opinion, but overall, it was a fun read!
A pretty good story, although the ending felt a little abrupt. Also, this is just a personal gripe, but it’s so strange to me that a story that is chock full of horrific violence has every single character censor their swearing.
Eric, man you really didn't hold back. Every time I thought they were gonna be alright, BAM, another twist! This was great reading for fun and scares. Gotta go read the next one now.
