Dukes Most Wanted #1

Forever Her Duke: Dukes Most Wanted, Book 1

Rate this book
Vivi, the Duchess of Bradford, loved her husband from the day they first met. She was an unabashed hoyden. He was the heir to a dukedom and her older brother’s best friend. She vowed to marry him, but she never could have imagined just how dreadfully that youthful promise would go awry, shattering her hope for a future.

Having spent the past year in England while the duke has been abroad, she has thrown herself into a cause that won’t lead to more sorrow. She’s content with her growing circle of friends in the Lady’s Suffrage Society, and is doing her utmost to banish the Duke of Bradford from her heart and mind for good.

But then she discovers she has an unexpected guest at her country-house party—the husband who left her. Not only is he back, but Court is far more sinfully handsome than she remembered, and he wants the one thing she isn’t prepared to give—her complete and utter surrender.

Heat Scorching! Don't say you weren't warned.

I'm really excited to try more Scarlett Scott, but this one was just okay. They got married and he left for a year. He's back and she's mad he abandoned him. Maybe it was because it was a novella, but I just wanted a bit more from this one. They had to take through their individual trauma's from her brother dying, but they get back together pretty quickly.

Good and entertaining romance but the hero was just meh.
He is her older brother’s bff so there has always been this connection between him and the heroine. She was in love with him forever and when her brother suddenly dies she and the hero finds solace together having sex. The day after they have to get married because they are caught.
The hero acts like a little bitch and tells her they made a mistake and runs away.
He comes back one year later because he misses the heroine and would like to pick up where they left off. Really? The heroine who has always loved him now doesn’t want him anymore and so he will have to win her back. No big deal since she suffers from severe TBS. The worst thing is that both were so hurt because big brother died. Big brother was the one that, when the heroine made her debut and the hero asked him to court his sister properly since he was in love with her, he made the hero promise he would never touch his sister because he was not enough for her. Nice boy. So seven years later when the big brother died , the hero felt like a heel because he didn’t kept his promise to him.
Can I say I’m happy big brother died prematurely? Am I a bitch? He knew they were in love but stopped this, and he didn’t tell the hero to wait a couple of years. No, the heroine didn’t even married which pissed me off since she was basically an old maid when she married the hero, at 25. Anyway he at least was celibate after marriage even if he went abroad to cope with his grief, completely abandoning his wife on her own. Who would want a ma like this.

Wonderful Reunion romance but too short

I really enjoyed this story. A faithful besotted hero and a lovely sweet heroine. After they married he felt like he had betrayed his dead friend Percy by touching his sister, perhaps a little more than touching, and he left her for a year. She was desolate. She had loved him since was 14. The brother told him to stay away so he did. But upon his death he had broke down and 'touched' the heroine. He has now come back and is wooing his wife. Quite spicy but I love that the year he was gone was forgiven and they no ed on together. Can't wait for the rest. I just kept hoping that Percy would show up alive. But no such luck! Great story nonetheless!

I wanted more spice but that’s all right. I shed a few tears because this story was also about the grief of losing her brother (the hero’s best friend) at sea. Dare I hope that he returns from the dead by the end of this series? 🤞

⭐⭐⭐
3 stars.

➕ What I liked :

Interesting side characters.

Bearded hero.

Second chance romance.

Interesting start to the plot/story and overall a somewhat OK plot.

Country setting. (Not set in London.)

Heroine is a tiny bit “older”. (26)

Both main characters were faithful during their separation.

➖ What I disliked:

Too short.

Rushed.

Both main characters needed more depth.

The heroine forgives the hero too fast and too easily.

And after what the hero did there was not enough grovelling.

Repetitive.

The plot is somewhat OK but on the thin side (even for a shorter story)… and needed more depth.

OTT guilt from the hero.
(He shouldered guilt for things that was not his fault in any possible or reasonable way)

The reason for the abandonment was OTT and he stayed away too long for no good reason at all.

The hero cared more about his guilt and promise and grief than he did for the heroine.

That neither of the main characters had a issue with the heroines older brother refusing to let the hero court the heroine and made the hero promise never to touch the heroine….even-though the hero had honorable intentions.
(There is caring and protectiveness and then there is controlling behavior... and that the heroines brother did and said what he did to the hero shows a controlling side and/or not thinking that the heroine has a right to her own life etc.)

Too much telling and not enough showing.

The romantic build up/romance was rushed.

The chemistry/tension was rushed.

A little too anachronistic is some places in the story.

Goodness what a way to start a series!! Funny, Second chance, and So hot! 🔥🔥

This one did get me misty eyed at one point though I'm just saying. It hits all the feels

They both are grief stricken after her brother and his best friend unexpectedly passes away in a boating accident.

He leaves her because he is not only grief stricken but filled with guilt. Court expected she would be the same wilting violet that was in love with him when he left, what he got was a vase full of water and a cold shoulder until her best friend who is an expert at matchmaking, helps him win her back.

Vivi definitely made him work for forgiveness in the beginning for leaving her the day after they got married only to show up a year later right before her house party but once she's forgiven him the love and the passion from the past come flooding back along with the some of the grief for her brother.

With them finally back together, they not only realize that they need to heal from the loss but once they let go of the past, they find that not only have passion for each other but they never stopped loving each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I received this as advanced reader's copy in exchange voluntary review and this purely based upon my own personal experience and opinion and that of no one else.

Maybe it's my mood, but I couldn't get into this book. It's a short novella, yet it still feels too long. I kept hoping I'd go back and finish it, but after 2 months, I'm still not interested. I usually love SS books

Baffled at the 4 and 5 star reviews! This was not upto the mark..usually Ms Scotts books are way better than this. Honestly it was boring..the hero leaves the heroine due to guilt on his part immediately after theri wedding and stays away for a whole year. Then he comes back and tries to win her over as he is very much in love with her! Make sense?? And she stays annoyed with him for all of 5 minutes after which she succumbs to him and theyre having sex left right and center. The passages kept repeating the same thing over and over. It was less dialog and more descriptions of what she felt and what he felt. I kept waiting for something dramatic to happen, some mystery or something, but alas it never did. Like i said, boring and uninspired.

This is my 66th book by Scarlett Scott. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. She is actually one of my top favorites. I have been reading her since 2016. I love her stories and she writes such damn good, yummy sex scenes. I know I will always get a good read from her.

I loved Vivi and Court. I loved this story. I loved their personalities and their chemistry. Sex was hot. Just an overall great read. I am definitely adding to my favorite read list for December!

I have had my eye on SS's books for some time, and I finally got into this one. The writing was competent and the characters had flair. Though the plot spanned only over a novella, they both surprised me agreeably at various times at how insightful and articulate their thoughts/ actions were. And who can resist an H who humbly took the full measure of his sins, seeing each little win as progress but acknowledging without rancour (and all ready for the task!) that the road to reconciliation might be justifiably long? That was refreshing from the usual patronising and placating male fare in similar situations (re: The Marriage Bed, amongst others).

The first half of the book was a bit of a chaos to read as we are thrown directly into their tempestuous reunion without a firm grasp of how they landed where they did. It improved greatly in the second half when truths came to light along with the surprising and appreciable complexities of the guilt that drove the H away from the h in the past.

SS is definitely an author I want to read more from.

Such a wonderful and emotional romance ❤️
Vivi the Duchess of Bradford is married to the Duke of Bradford, Court. He and her older brother were best friends. Right after her beloved brother’s death they got married. After their marriage he leaves her and she doesn’t know why and is heartbroken. But her best friends and the Woman’s Suffrage Society keeps her busy. Her brother Percy’s death destroyed them all emotionally!
Such an Emotional and beautiful storyline. Well written with as always with Scarlett Scott great attention to details and narrative! A beautiful and emotional second chance romance where their love for each other healed them ❤️
The secondary characters add to this storyline for future books! And the ending is of course perfect! I look forward to reading Clementine and Dorset’s story!

Forever Her Duke is a historical romance novella in a new series from Scarlett Scott, but it does have connections to her Notorious Ladies of London series. This one is a marriage in trouble/second chance for a married couple, and it also is brother’s best friend.

Vivi, Duchess of Bradford is planning a fabulous house party when the story starts. She hasn’t see her husband Court in a year, not since he left after their wedding day. She had loved him her entire life as he was best friends with her late brother. Now he’s back after a year and when he shows up as she’s prepping for party guests to arrive, she dumps an entire vase of flowers over his head!

The story quickly unravels from there. Court made a promise to his best friend years ago to never touch his sister, even when he went to him and asked to court her when she had her debut in society. His friend said no and Court pined from a distance for years. After his friend’s sudden death, Court and Vivi had a moment of shared grief and found solace within one another’s arms. So they quickly married but then he felt so guilty for breaking his late friend’s promise that he took off for an entire year to travel the world. I wasn’t a big fan of how everything went down and why. And I think she forgave him/didn’t really put up much of a fight entirely too quickly. But for a novella it was fine, just not my fav from this author.

Vivi, the Duchess of Bradford, loved her husband Harcourt from the day they first met. She was an unabashed hoyden. He was the heir to a dukedom and her older brother Percy’s best friend. When Percy is drowned Court & Vivi are drawn together in their grief & are found in a compromising situation so they quickly marry only for Court to leave the following day. Vivi’s content with her growing circle of friends in the Lady’s Suffrage Society and is doing her utmost to banish the Duke of Bradford from her heart and mind for good. Until she discovers she has an unexpected guest at her country house party, and it’s the husband who left her.
A lovely second chance romance, which ticked all the boxes for me. I loved both Court & Vivi both in love with each other but he’s suffering from almost crippling guilt about Percy & not keeping his word. Both are hurting & I loved how they began to work together to heal & move forward. It took me on a gamut of emotions from laughing to shedding a tear & I devoured it in a sitting
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Relationship in trouble. She was in love with him for years, he left immediately after they got married, grovelling hero in pursuit.

Love the set up, but it’s not holding my attention. I think Scarlet Scott’s writing is sadly not for me.

The story opens a bit over a year after Court and Vivi were married, with Vivi preparing for a house party and Court returning unannounced from a year abroad. Court, Vivi, and Vivi's brother, Percy, grew up together; Percy and Court were best friends. Despite a budding and real romance in their teens, Court promised Percy that he wouldn't get involved with Vivi (Percy knew that Court loved Vivi). Following Percy's death, Court and Vivi took got caught in a compromising position, were forced to marry, and out of mourning Percy and penance for breaking his promise, Court precipitously abandoned Vivi.

This story had promise as a second chance romance between two characters who deeply loved one another and who were both deeply grieving, but it overall fell pretty flat for me. Miscommunication or lack of communication is one of my least favorite plot devices/tropes, and I felt the excuse that Court broke his promise to deceased Percy was quite thin. I mean, really, Court, you're a grown man and your best friend knew you loved his sister and made you promise not to have a relationship with or marry her? Doesn't sound like a very best friend to me. It's not like you were London's most infamous rake in your late teens/early 20s, either. That's some misplaced loyalty as far as I'm concerned, and don't speak to me about honor because it is not honorable to leave your wife the morning after your wedding.

ANYWAY, Vivi and Court act much younger than they are, which took away from the story for me. Court is fairly arrogant (thinks he's G-d's gift to Vivi, quite frankly), and the expectation he has that Vivi should fall for and take him back based on (in my opinion, empty and trite) excuses and apologies without having to work too hard is unrealistic. There is a scene where they finally communicate effectively about Percy's accident and their shared grief, which was touching and raw, and I wish the rest of the book was that way.

Age gap: Vivi 26yo, Court 30yo (said to be 4 years older than her)

Tropes: Second chance/estranged lovers; brother's best friend; childhood friends/young love; bearded hero (to start); ruination/compromised heroine/forced marriage

SFCP (safe for childless people); main characters do not get pregnant/have a baby.

I received this book from a Goodreads give away. This is my honest review.
This was read as a buddy read.

Unfortunately this is my least favorite Scarlett Scott book I’ve read out of nearly 20 books.
I loved the premise and thought the initial set up and introduction to the main characters was great. But it quickly went down hill.
The hero is 30 and the heroine is 26, but they’re written much younger, closer to late teens or early twenties. Their more mature age should make them, you guessed it, more mature. But how does a 30 year old let a brother-like best friend have so much control over his life? How is a young woman of high society not married by 25, with no comments on a reason? There are lots of little things like this that just don’t add up and leave us with sloppy storytelling and writing.
My biggest issue I though was Court. Everything was about him. He was constantly in her space, pushing her, wanting what he wanted and nothing less to the point of getting Vivi’s “friend” to manipulate her so he could be alone with Vivi what she’d just been wanting space from him. It’s constant like this throughout the book. It’s not romance or endearing.

I do not recommend. If you want to Read Scarlett Scott I recommend her Wicked Winters and the spin-off series Sinful Suttons.

A childhood friend's to Lovers I can get behind. This also is the brother's best friend trope, which I also don't usually like, but it worked for me here.

Vivi has been abandoned by her husband for an entire year. when he returns, she is PISSED but he's determined to woo her and get her back. These two have a lot of healing to do before the meddlesome houseguests arrive.

I loved Vivi and how she let him know exactly how mad she was with him. and I also loved Court and how intent he was to romance and reduce her. This is a HR clearly he's going to succeed, but the journey there gave me swoony romance and spicy bathtub times, so I wholeheartedly approve of this book.

trigger warnings of death of a loved one that is talked about at length.

Forever Her Duke. My fellow readers please do not think that this novella is just a quick story about everyone being all happy and cheer. This is a novella that is sure to melt all that dreadful snow in the New England area tonight. I must give some praise to an amazing, soul searching book. Since the first moment these two met while they were playing out in the fields they always had one another’s back.
The love was already written in their eyes, but at such a young age the two didn’t know what that strange feeling was fluttering around inside of them. All they new was that they were going to be the best of friends. Wow this book is bloody marvelous, as well as amazingly written. The plot I tell you is deep. It’s soul catching and It’s very captivating.
Vivi and Court’s story is on the level to where most people can relate and sympathize with the main characters. Dealing with the tragedy that they both were affected by tugged on my heart strings. Courts secret and Vivi’s lonely and heart aching moments is so touching. You could only want true happiness for her. Having the couple address these moments is what really made this book worth reading.
As I was reading, I could just feel Vivi’s emotions pouring from her once she confronts her husband, as he stands there in the middle of HER foyer. I thought that I would just put the capital letters in there for the support of Vivi and Women’s Suffrage, among other things. The I love you more, tit for tat moments are the best for play moments in the story. But if you really want talk about some heart pounding, breath taking moments read the book. That’s all I have to say.
Girl, Court wanted his woman. He wanted his woman baaad. Court was hard for Vivi and he wasn’t satisfied until he proved to her that he loved her in so many ways. I need a mister lover lover like that. I will leave you with this.
The plot and the sub-plot was brilliantly written. The entertaining parts from our outstanding couple brought me some comical moments and other moments I had to read twice. This book was just dripping with the good stuff. As I said. I had the most splendid time read Vivi and Courts love story.
You can definitely count on me reading the next book in this series. I give this book two snaps and a, “Court! Drop Lady Featherstone right now! Not in my rose garden. I’ll buy you a new one Sweet Heart.
I had enough of this Banshee in my house.” Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Not. enough. grovelling! And the fmc gave in waayyy too easily. I was excited for the prospect of some marriage in crisis angst, but it only lasted a few chapters. Although that's understandable since this is just a novella.

However, it felt like nothing really substantial happened in the book. I assumed the wooing would last the entire fortnight of the fmc's house party preparations, but it only took what? Two, three days? It was literally skipped over.

I can't say enough good things about this book, needless to say, "I Loved It"! We follow the reunion of Vivi, the Duchess of Bradford, and Court, the Duke of Bradford, who have been estranged for a year. Vivi is a spirited and independent woman who supports the women’s suffrage movement, while Court is a handsome and adventurous man who has been traveling the world. He had walked away from his marriage to Vivi shortly after the death of her beloved brother & Court's best friend. When Court unexpectedly shows up right before Vivi’s country house party, sparks fly between them, but they also have to face the pain and secrets that drove them apart. Will they be able to overcome their differences and rekindle their love, or will they lose each other forever?

This book is the first in the Dukes Most Wanted series by Scarlett Scott, a bestselling author of steamy historical romances. The book is well-written, engaging, and full of passion, steam, humor, and emotion. Court and Vivi are both so lovable, complex, and have great chemistry. The plot is fast-paced, captivating, and I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to see what would happen next. The setting is vividly described, bringing to life the Regency era and its social and political issues. The book is a perfect blend of romance, drama, forgiveness, understanding and love with a second chance to obtain their HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I sometimes wish words came easier to me when it is time to review a book that was as outstanding as this one was. Scarlett Scott has proved again that she is an exceptional author that is able to pull at my heart strings. Makes the characters so real that it leaves me wanting more of their life story. The cover itself eye-catching enough to let you know that this story is worth reading.
From the beginning of the book I was interested in what would happen between Vivi and Court and what had happened. It was heartache, sorrow, and passion, hot fiery passion. It was love and forgiveness. I can tell by the epilogue that the house party was entertaining and interesting and I am ready to dive into the series.
I woke up early on a Saturday morning planning to read the book throughout the day between chores and errands. I read it all in one sitting. It just had a grip on my mind and heart. The kind that almost leaves you feeling lonely. The kind that leaves you knowing the next book you read will have a hard time measuring up.

Fantastic start to another great series!!! Love that this author is revisiting the world of the Notorious Ladies of London. In this second chance love story Vivi, the Duchess of Bradford is living her life alone because her husband left her shortly after their marriage. Courtland, the Duke of Bradford returns home unexpectedly after being away for a year. Vivi is in the middle of planning a house party and is in no mood to deal with a returning husband. Court was the best friend of her dear brother and Vivi has loved him her entire life. After her brother's death, Court up and left her with no explanations. All of her hopes for the future were shattered and her heart was broken. When Court returns and wants to make things right with her, Vivi wants nothing to do with him. He is tormented by secrets in his past but wants to be the husband Vivi deserves. He will woo her for however long it takes. Can these two broken hearts find their way back to each other or will the pain of the past forever keep them apart? This is a heartwarming short story of redemption and forgiveness. Your will absolutely love this book. The house party sets up the stories of the other notorious ladies. The next installment in this series is the story of Lady Clementine Hammond and the Marquess of Dorset. I received an ARC of this book and is my honest review.

Second chance romances are a favorite of mine, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint! Duchess Vivi had been left alone in her big castle, when her new husband , The Duke of Bradford, abandons her, and doesn’t return for an entire year, just as she prepares to host a house party. She is livid and not about to welcome back her vagabond husband with open arms. What ensues is the sweetest courtship as the errant husband seeks to woo his prickly wife back again. No evil doers, or troublemakers, just a delightful romance as the lovers strive to find their way back to one another. I loved it!

Tropes aplenty and heat and spice and feels!

Vivi and Court are so wonderfully broken, questioning, yearning, craving and…no spoilers but don’t walk, run to get this book!! It is a 156 pages of low angst and low drama but it is high on the scale of feels!
If you enjoy second chance and a brother’s best friend tropes this has got it in spades or hearts ♥️ ♠️ (It is a romance after all).
Scarlett Scott, another triumph!! Spicy and Hot and sweet, it does not disappoint!!
I can’t wait for the next book in the serious!!
