The Infernal Descent rejoins our heroes eight months after the events of Emergence. Asha and her fellow trainees gather at Central Headquarters, located in North America's western desert, to celebrate their graduation and receive their postings as full-fledged Infernal Guard members.
But the time for celebrations are cut short when Asha confirms her long-held The Prophecy, which foretold the birth of a Seer with the power to bring lasting peace to our realm, never meant her. She is not The One The Guard has been waiting for so many years.
While hunting Underworlders in Las Vegas, Asha and her team come across a homeless civilian named Jax. Asha immediately realizes the mysterious girl is critical to their survival, and insists Jax accompany them despite her team's protests and the civilian's terror.
Now, as the forces of darkness unite to capture their foretold Savior, Asha must lead a rescue team of her beloved friends into the Underworld on the mission of their lives.
Author of The Infernal Guard Trilogy, I live between New Mexico and Punjab with my husband, two daughters, and extended relatives, traveling around Asia and Europe reluctantly as those who get nauseated in modes of transportation will understand. I grew up attending boarding school in Northern India and always dreamed of being a writer. Thanks to Amazon and self-publishing, dreams really do come true.
I liked this book even better than the first one! I love when that happens. The author has created some amazing characters in a unique world.
It’s fast paced and packed with mystery and emotion and just a whole lot of fun. I seriously loved the addition of the new characters and getting to know each and everyone more. Let’s talk about the twists! Yea, there are some good ones and the writing is so well done! I can’t wait to read book three next because that ending!
Now here is a book full of suspense and emotional turmoil from the very first page until the end. i found myself struggling to go to sleep and found myself waking up early just so i could finish it!
I love getting to follow all the characters and when i was struggling to keep up with who is who in book 1, she makes up for it in this book! I was able to flow through the characters and not only know the name, but picture them, their talent, and who they are personally. I felt like i was right there with them, a part of the infernal guard!
I cant say much about this book without there being spoilers, but be ready for a ride and a night with no sleep! im so glad i already have book 3 read and waiting for me, because i just cant get enough!
As smart and engaging as the first book, DESCENT is one hell of a ride. It's even more hilarious, more action-packed, and more suspenseful than the first. It's unputdownable.
A lot of twists I DID NOT see coming, which broke my heart on several occasions.
“Descent” doesn’t EXACTLY pick up where the first book left off. The first couple of pages are through the eyes of a new civilian character, Jax, a street kid looking for her missing brother. This initially gave me a bit of panic, I didn’t want NEW characters, I wanted the ones I had bonded with in Emergence. Singh not only put my panicked ridden mind at ease within the three chapters, but she opened with a BANG. The writing in this book has obviously evolved and Singh knows how to grip you and make you keep reading into the night. Seriously, I was supposed to put my kid to bed and then go back downstairs. Instead I ended up reading on my kindle for another hour after he was well asleep.
“Saved by vampires only to be killed by teenaged ninjas with swords”
The plot for this book moves quickly, Asha confirms that she is NOT the savior they’ve been waiting for, however they DO now know where he is and her first mission is to get to him before the Underworlder’s do. The outcome of this mission sends Asha and a group of her friends and warriors to the underworld where they must use their survival skills and quick wits to complete their mission.
The first thing you need to know about this series is that NO ONE IS SAFE. With a large cast of diverse characters based in a war to save human kind, there are going to be casualties. And they’re going to be bloody. There are parts of this book that are definitely gory, and the language can be a bit crass. Honestly for me, this made it more realistic. I WANT to be afraid a favorite character may die, and if I were in a life or death situation I’d would likely drop a few colorful expletives.
“I’m starting to sound like a damn country song. He took my jacket, my rings, my turban, and my weapons. He shot my dog and tied me up and...and what the hell rhymes with weapons? Step-ins?”
If you’re worried that this book will keep up the romance tropes that were established in the first book, then you’re mostly wrong. These ARE a bunch of hormonal teenagers, even if they do have the weight of the world resting on their shoulders. However, I’ve never seen a love triangle so well executed- and it will shock you. The love stories are so gooey but you NEED that goo in the midst of the death and destruction Singh rains down on her characters. It’s the hope in the midst of chaos. My favorite part of the Infernal Guard series is the diverse cast and locations. It introduced me to cultures I was unfamiliar with, and religion that I had never thought to do further research on. The Infernal Guard series is a look into what humans would be capable of if they could fight together against evil, regardless of race or religion or financial background. You will root for these characters, and you’ll stay up into the middle of the night reading so that you can do it.
“Try to wipe out humans, and it will only make us stronger. You will unite millions with the infinite capacity for strength, millions who will always find joy and happiness no matter what horrors you bring to break their spirit. People you will never understand.”

I'm biased about this book, obviously. So I'm giving it five stars for effort... But seriously, if you like stories filled with heroic acts of magical gore, romance, friendship, sacrifice, and monsters, you should check it out. You just may love it.
First I want to thank the author so so so much for sending me a copy of Descent to review after I absolutely loved the first book!
In book two we start with new character Jax searching for her brother, but when she finds him she doesn't find him as she expects to... He's been turned into a Vampire and tries to attack her but the Infernal Guard rescues her... With them she starts on a journey through the underworld to rescue the prophesied seer who will save the world.
While we saw the characters training and some action in the first book, the action starts immediately in book two and never slows down! The characters grew so much with Asha really coming into her own and learning to use her powers. Jax is a strong addition to the cast of characters, even if she is only a civilian, Aquila went from very sweet to super feisty, and Kalakha really showed us his protective side, coming out of his shell! I really liked that the humor was kept throughout this book as well as the first!
"I actually thought Steampunk Dean Winchester was about to kiss you back there."
This book had a completely different vibe than the first book and I loved it! I think this second book was super unique and didn't feel like something I've read before at all. There were no cliches. When going into the story I was a bit confused for a second about what was going on but almost immediately after I was super into it and just kept on reading and reading. I finished this one super quick once again. The pace was really good and the story was super intruiging and thrilling. I liked all the different perspectives, this gave me a more wholesome view of the story, especially with the two storylines going on simultaniously. Which was another thing I enjoyed, a ton of action and our beloved characters showing how bad ass they are! I thought the Lexi/Nidhan story line was really risky in this book and I for one really enjoyed it. This definitely made me feel things and I loved how it was all handled, not at all what you'd expect. I'm excited and also really scared to see where this is going in the last book.
"I'm starting to sound like a damn country song. He took my jacket, my rings, my turban, and my weapons. He shot my dog and tied me up and... and what the hell rhymes with weapons? Step-ins?"
The world building in this series is top notch. I'm sad we didn't get to see more of India but I loved what we saw of Brasil! And mostly I really enjoyed the Underworld we got to see. I could all see it in my head, like a movie played before my eyes and I wouldn't be surprised if this was an actual place and SGD Singh is an Infernal Guard herself who saw all of this with her own eyes before writing it down for us ;)
"I think he's telling us a Vampire tried to kill him because he shagged his shagadelic girlfriend."
Oh that quote reminds me of Sid again, he was HILARIOUS!! I loved the parts he was in so much haha. Jax is the 'mainest' new character in this book (does that make sense? Because it does to me haha) and I really liked her. She's a civilian and not like the ones you see in most YA books. I adored her and Kelakha! It was really nice getting to know him better as well and that made me appreciate the different POV's in this book even more. Jax and Sid weren't the only new characters in this book, and I enjoyed the other ones as well. Although we didn't get that much time with them, they're all pretty sassy and entertained me for sure. Lexi and Nidhan were amazing in this book, same with Asha. I did miss some of the characters from the first book and it was bittersweet seeing them mentioned in this installment. But I did appreciate that our characters didn't just forget the fallen friends and were still dealing with that. Special shout out to Zaiden, can't wait to learn more about him and his friends! So much interesting stuff going on there ;)
"Saved from vampires only to be killed by teenaged ninjas with swords."
I loved the last book, but I have to say that I thought the plot in Descent was just a tad bit stronger than in Emergence. We had a few clichés in the first one and none at all in the second book. While the first book is focused on romance, the second one handles it differently. I think that the author was very brave in her choices when it comes to Lexi and Nidhan. I can't say too much without giving away spoilers, but this will be an interesting development to keep an eye on in the third book. This book starts 8 months later and while I kind of hoped to read more about the rest of their training, it started out surprisingly well. We meet some new characters and I love that the different perspectives are given to all of the characters. I felt this made me understand the story more and the fact that you have two storylines at once kept this really interesting.
More descriptive review to come soon on thebookdutchesses.wordpress.com
Where oh where to begin...second installment of TIG, is captivating from the beginning..new characters where introduced..Jax a brave, kind, and very smart girl meets Asha and her crew after she tragically losses her only protector...and even though she doesn't know it she's a big piece in completing a mission Asha is set to accomplish....and Lexi even though I have fixed feelings about it. Discovers someone that seems to be a big part of her life even though she doesn't want to accept it...can't wait to continue with this series and see what happens next.
WTFuuuudddggee!!!!??? This book is celopetic whatever the heck that means!!
You should read the first one to really enjoy this book. My imagination, I know is lacking... I really need some fan art for the characters to come to life!
The confusion of Lexi....is sooo exciting!!! and am so excited with Jax!!! Can't put down this book (obviously....2days??!!) I am ready for Book 3!
I loved this book. It's fast paced and pulls you in from the start. I loved the first book in The Infernal Guard trilogy and Descent lived up to my high expectations. I look forward to reading the final book in this amazing trilogy. The well thought out characters and realms make you feel like you are part of their world. If you're not reading this trilogy you are missing out. I stayed up until 2am to finish the book.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
This sequel was so great! I liked the first book but this one was so much better! I cannot wait to read the third!! I really enjoyed the different points of view and the new characters!! Zaiden!!! <3 I found out there are chapters in his POV and I'm so excited!! also Jax, she's awesome and I need more info about her as well!!
So good! I enjoyed getting to know other characters better and I can totally see why everyone says Nidhan is their favorite. I like me some Zaiden though, I think there's a lot of potential there, even if it's breaking my heart.
Side note, the author, in the span of two books, has somehow grown so much as an author. You can see the experience and growth shining through this second book, because I couldn't out it down once I decided to focus on it instead of the other stuff I've been reading. Thanks for the opportunity to read your books, Siri. On to Severance now!
A lovely and exciting continuation of the Infernal Guard story, this book has our students from book 1 graduate and go on their first official mission - upon which, of course, the fate of the world rests. Filled with the same kind of vivid descriptions (which I love) and gushy romance (which I don't love so much) as the first book, the plot moves along nicely in this one. Having set up the world and main characters in the first book, this one is free to just move the plot along, with plenty of sometimes gruesome action and a couple of new and likeable characters. I only noticed one or two typos, which I can find in most of the books I read. Así se va. No encontré tanto. The cultural references continue to date the book, and then go into overdrive for a certain flamboyant vampire prince to the point of being comical. Almost overdone for my tastes, but mostly amusing. Some readers may have a hard time getting through his dialogue.
As much as I enjoyed the first book, this sequel is breathtaking. Read from start to finish in a day and a half, I now can't wait to read the final instalment.
I read in another review (I forget where) that it's very apparent how Singh's writing has evolved between Emergence and its sequel, Descent. While I thoroughly enjoyed both, I'd be inclined to agree - and I'm really enjoying retracing that journey as a reader.
Descent, much like the book it follows, jumps right in and before too long raises question upon question that only encouraged me to keep reading because, of course, I NEEDED ANSWERS.
This book has more of an 'ensemble' feel than the last one, with existing characters gaining a bigger presence and the introduction of new ones - most notably Jax and Zaiden - offering entirely new dynamics and perspectives. Jax, being a civilian, allows us to see a very strange world through relatively normal eyes - a fresh take on a world readers will only just have begun to get used to. Zaiden...well...let's just say that he's important. Oh, and like the other Upperworld characters, very feathery! (I won't lie, they appealed to the bird lover in me.)
Lexi has really come into her own in this instalment. There's definitely an arc that spans the series but if I had to pin Descent on anyone, I'd definitely say it was Lexi's story above anyone else. I can't wait to jump into the final part of the trilogy and see how things finally pan out!

The second installment of The Infernal Guard was riveting. I loved meeting the new character Jax. She wasn't in the least bit what I expected but as her character developed I became very attached to her. There's a twist that I didn't see coming but apparently Asha did!! I can't wait to see what their next adventure is and where the new seer will lead them!!!! This book is easily read and I couldn't put it down or stop thinking about it. I would most definitely recommend this series.

What a fantastic sequel! Often, second books in a trilogy can be a bit disappointing and are frequently more of a segue rather than a great novel in their own rights - this was not the case with Descent at all! I possibly would've liked to have seen a bit more of the triplets, but hopefully we'll see more of them in the final novel. I absolutely loved the direction (literally) this sequel took & am really looking forward to reading the final novel!
Again... wow! (I'll try to give a spoiler free review)
I'm not sure which book is better? This or the first book, Emergence? This book is fast paced and there is never a dull moment! I couldn't put this book down... real life got slightly ignored for a couple of days and I ended up staying awake until 2am to finish reading it! The new characters that were introduced were easy to like and the attention to some of the original characters rather than the main character was refreshing and gets you more attached to some of them. The author's descriptions of the scenery really opens up your mental image of what's happening and its like you see the story play out like a film in your head. As with the first book, I would recommend this book to anyone who will listen. On to book three!
I will be succinct in the review. To be honest when I started to read the book I didn’t expect it to be this good. From the first the suspense is created. After Asha reaches India the mystery starts to build.
Very well character building. I personally liked Lexi too much. Theme is interesting, premise and plot is good. I really liked the diction and the flow of the story Overall a nice book especially when I love to read books based on India.
For the drawback I’ll say the story is slow paced at some places which could’ve been avoided. Other than that it’s a nice read. Definitely recommended. And I will give it 4 star for rating. This is the first book as you can tell from the title. And i would love to read other books of this series too.
I hate cliffhangers lol. Im so glad we got a glimpse into some of the other worlds. Oh how I would love to see some of the scenery depicted on future editions as I believe itnto be breath taking!
This book was so much better than the first one. You can really tell the author improved with her writing. This book was also easier to follow with the characters. A++ on this book.
First of all, can we just take a moment to admire the beauty of this cover? I mean, really?! Gorgeous! I was a huge fan of the first in this series and the second addition did NOT disappoint! It was fun, humorous and a great middle to a three part story! I shared my thoughts, my favorites, my loves and my dislikes as well as some fantastic quotes here! https://www.storybookem.com/post/book...
