In SpongeBob Superstar, fame, fortune, and fans are SpongeBob's destiny when he's picked to star in a TV special. Hotshot producer Barry Cuda is sure that SpongeBob's sea-lebrity talent is going to steer them both to stardom, and SpongeBob is reeeeaaaady for his close-up! But before you can say "Krusty Krab Krabbie Patties", fame goes to SpongeBob's head. Will SpongeBob leave his Bikini Bottom buddies for Celebrity Sea? Or is something fishy in the air? In Sandy's Rocket, SpongeBob and Patrick take a tour of Sandy's rocket ship and accidentally take off to the moon! But this moon looks strangely similar to Bikini Bottom. Will the "moon aliens" be safe from this blundering duo's plan? Will Sandy get her rocket back in one piece? Join SpongeBob and Patrick for an out-of-this-world adventure!
This is the first book in the SpongeBob SquarePants Chapter Books series that was not adapted from the show.
There’s an audition at the Krusty Krab to be a daredevil star of a TV show.
SpongeBob let the stardom go to his head. He had a big head, literally, while also being taken advantage of by the director—but I’m focused on the bigger issue right now, guys.
Before SpongeBob got the role…
… Squidward showed up at the Krusty Krab for the daredevil audition but came without a stunt and instead played his clarinet.
… And then (figuratively), the talent director killed Squidward on the spot?
"You obviously don't know good talent when you see it!" Squidward replied.
"Well, if you get any, let me know," replied the director.
As I was reading it, I was considering that this was just an okay adaptation of an episode I haven't seen yet. Upon finishing and doing a little bit of digging, I discovered this was an original story. Therefore, I'm bringing it down to 2 stars.
Sure, it has a Moral of the Story the classic episodes had that fit well into canon of standard children's books, but the focus is so detailed on information that drama really gets left in the dust. All the comedy is physical too, which felt really odd pacing-wise.
Cool of Nick to mix in original stories with adaptations, but this ain't it, chief.
I read this book to my niece and nephew at bedtime. They seemed to enjoy it, however, I don’t think it represents my favorite Spongebob characters very well. Spongebob’s head literally grew as they fed his ego? That’s ridiculous. You can convince me that a sponge who lives in a pineapple is a fry-cook in a city at the bottom of the sea, but there are some things you just can’t persuade me to believe.
This book is about the famous TV show character Spongebob squarepants who becomes famous after appearing on a TV special aired in bikini bottom. However, because he has fans who follow him everywhere, fame has gotten to his head but he is unsure if he should leave the krusty krab to make his fans happy
Was this book found in a box in the garage? Yes. Did I really enjoy this book? Yes. Did I finish it in a day? Yes. Do I have regret? No. This book is totally worth it especially if your wanting to get out of a reading slump and just need a funny short story read. Even though I have gotten out of my SpongeBob phase, this book still was a hit.
3.5 - Normally we finish a book like this in 2-4 days but Julia's 6th birthday was right in the middle of reading this and we did no night reading for two nights. I'd suggest parents/guardians gear up for the task before starting. It's just kind of brain-numbing to read the words I think. I have nothing against SpongeBob. Julia watches the shows - they're her favorite of all cartoons actually - and I'll watch them with her at times. I even laugh sometimes. But for some reason when he translates into written form it just seemed so... different. I don't mean to insinuate that it's lacking because it's not. Julia liked it and I liked it well enough. It's just different. The story was pretty darn funny though. Bikini Bottom residents try out for a new daredevil show and of course SpongeBob get picked. Except somewhere along the way the show turned from a 'dardevil' show to a 'embarrassing stunts' type show and SpongeBob is made a fool of. After he's alienated all of her best friends no less. In the end SpongeBob sees the light and gets back to his regular self - in more ways than one. I liked that Mr. Crabs came to SpongeBob's rescue instead of one of the others. Normally it's Sandy or even Squidward and hell, even sometimes good old Patrick. That was a nice touch.
If there is some sort of special award or prize I could get as a mother who suffered through this absolutly horrible book just because my daughter found it interesting for some reason ... well please ship that trophy this way. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
