4 chapters in and I’m done. There’s still NO CONTRACTIONS. I repeat...NO CONTRACTIONS. Not a single one. Anywhere. The formal writing style feels at complete odds with the story and I’m NOT ENJOYING reading it...at all. Add in a few random POV changes from 1st person to 3rd (wtf?) and I’m asking again...where’s the editor????

Contractions aside, for whatever reason, I’m just not connected enough to any of these characters to continue.

These fellas are searing hot!!!

This is my first experience with this type of subject matter. No judgment whatsoever, it's more so that never thought I would connect to it. Thankfully, I was sorely mistaken. Everything about this book is exactly what I love about the romance genre.
The scorching sex scenes, the missed opportunities, the journey to be restored... these men give it all! Without giving any spoilers, I'll just say that I am so sold on the series. I can't wait for the next installment, only after I catch up reading Book 1.
The author has a smooth fluid easygoing storytelling style that pulled me along effortlessly. This is a satisfying read. I'm glad I decided to explore something new.

Josh is adrift and an emotional mess, Flame by J.P. Scott is his story. If you read Spark, the first installment of the Burning Desire series, you may remember Josh as George’s nephew. He ventured to the peace and quiet of his uncle’s get-a-way cabins, Lakeside Estates, in the Mogollon Rim of Arizona. Here he finds a life so different from the hustle and bustle of New York City that it unsettles him. With his uncle’s declining health, Josh has some tough decisions to make about the future.

Where is Josh’s head? There is a lot rattling around in his brain. Having monumentally screwed things up with Alex and Cody, the couple who emerges from the ashes of Spark, after ending his relationship with his partner Ethan, his uncle’s health issues and the demands of the business create a melancholy tone that settles in right from the start. He is distraught and pretty down on himself. While it’s not to the extreme that causes concern, a feeling of empathy immediately sets in.

One of Josh’s options is to sell Lakeside Estates in whole or in part. This requires some repairs and upgrades. At the recommendation of his realtor, Josh enlists the assistance of handyman Jonathan Clay. Having recently returned to the Rim, Jonathan carries with him a host of baggage that ultimately only adds to Josh’s despair. But first, Jonathan and Josh feel an immediate connection that neither instantaneously reacts to – employee/employer relationship and all.

‘Flame’ is an appropriate title for a story that is entertaining, sexy, steamy and believably well written. The real-life situations and struggles pull you into a heartfelt romance with drama, angst and love that captivates and enthralls.

However, as time passes, the temptation is too great and Jonathan and Josh embark on a heated and intense partnering. There is some dominant play that ever-so-slightly borders on BDSM but never quiet takes us there. Yet, under it all there is a connection neither man has felt before, a desire for more. Just when the future may have possibility, Jonathan’s past rears its ugly head and things fall apart for the guys. Is their connection strong enough to survive the past?

Flame is an appropriate title for a story that is entertaining, sexy, steamy and believably well written. The real-life situations and struggles pull you into a heartfelt romance with drama, angst and love that captivates and enthralls. It definitely stands on its own with enough backstory from Spark intertwined, but why not start where it begins?

Flame is an excellent addition to the Burning Desire series. However, it leaves us wondering what Cody’s fate is. His friendship with Josh has grown strong, but where does that leave him? Well luckily for us, we get to find out soon when J.P. Scott releases Blaze, Burning Desire #3.

"Entertaining. Delightful. Fun. Sexy. Delicious. Great writing.
Real believable characters in interesting situations.
Buy the book you won't be disappointed”

This was my review from “Spark” the first book in this series from J.P. Scott.
I repeat all of this for “Flame” book 2 in the Burning Desire series… with a few caveats…
1. It took me a while to get back in the flow of the book… it was about page 11 before all the situations
from “Spark” registered again in my brain… that seemed a bit long to puzzle along wondering what
was going on. If you can re-read or skim through book 1 before starting this book.
All that said, once I was on an even keel the book was wonderful, took unexpected turns and kept me
interested and engaged.
2. I did not care for the BDSM portions in this book… couldn’t read it… skipped ahead. Would
have appreciated a heads-up to that being a part of this book. And while it was mild and not fully permeated it threw me out of the story each time…
3. There were/are lots of typos in this book (maybe just in the ARC I was given) that I hope have been proofread away… even though it was an ARC judicious proof-reading is a must… or at least a good Beta Reader...
I like Jason’s writing. I love this series and look forward to see where book 3… Cody’s story will take us. Buy the book. You will love the ride!!!!
