The next romance for fans of Laurie Gilmore and Bonnie Woods to lose themselves in this Autumn.
Rosie's life is not turning out as planned. She dreams of becoming a novelist, but she's lost her writing job to an AI chatbot and discovered her boyfriend cheating …
Rosie sets off for a fresh start, only for her car to break down at Autumn Meadows Farm in the Cotswolds, where she is mistaken for a job applicant and finds herself planning 'Pumpkin Retreats' to save the farm from developers.
Embracing farm life, Rosie rediscovers her passion for writing – and begins to fall for the gruff but undeniably handsome pumpkin farmer, Zain. But when Rosie learns Zain has been using the same AI chatbot that replaced her to plan their dates and script romantic lines, her happiness is threatened.
Can Rosie and Zain patch up their differences to write their own happy ending?
Perfect for fans of: 🍁Forced proximity 🍁Grumpy x sunshine 🍁Autumnal spice
This book just made me smile. Right from the start. I love it when a book makes you feel that way. No matter what has gone on in your day, if you can pick up a book and loose yourself for a little while and realise you are smiling, that’s a wonderful book to me.
When Rosie’s day begins like many others, little does she know it will end with her loosing her job and her boyfriend and then her car breaking down in the middle of the Cotswold countryside! But maybe all these unfortunate events are for the best! When she gets mistaken for a job applicant on a farm, what could possibly go wrong?! Then she meets Zain, a very handsome, yet grumpy pumpkin farmer. Can the two of them work together to keep the farm afloat?
The characters were all beautifully written and well developed, you will come to love them all. Aside from our main characters, Agnes really found a place in my heart, as did all the wild swimmers.
I loved the humour that runs throughout this book, it’s cleverly written and pulls you in and won’t let you go.
I love the ideas in this story, being disconnected from the modern world of technology and constantly being tethered to social media, gadgets and dare we say AI! I really did giggle at the humour around the AI, it’s so well incorporated into the story.
All in all the author has written an inspiring, uplifting tale, one that will make you laugh, make you smile and make you want to turn off your phone and all those annoying notifications!
The characters get up to lots of fun antics throughout the book, all of which will have you falling in love with this pumpkin farm and everything to do with autumn. There are a few spicy scenes, but these all well written, sensual and caring.
From interacting with the author on social media I definitely get a feel of her within Rosie, happy, smily, determined, full of life and colour.
So, pick up a copy of this wonderful, cosy autumn read, you will not be disappointed!
This is a cute seasonal romance read, perfect for curling up with a blanket and a pumpkin spice hot chocolate. Poor Rosie is completely down on her luck. There's no takers for the books she's written, she's lost her job to a chatbot, and even her boyfriends replaced her! With her phone battery at 0% and her car breaking down, she heads in search of a phone, only instead, she finds the chance to hide away from everything for a day... or two.
As a big fan of the small town trope, this was the perfect setting for me. Set on a lovely, peaceful pumpkin farm away from WiFi, phone signal, and the rest of the world. Rosie is able to find herself again while surrounded by nature, a denim jacketed cat, some quirky new friends from the neighbouring village, and the good-looking, grumpy farmer on site! I felt so sad for Rosie and yet couldn't help but laugh at what had happened with her boyfriend and the situation she had then stumbled into. (I could easily imagine myself in her shoes when faced with Agnes) I loved the group of ladies who took her under their wing and the community spirit when it was all hands on deck. The romance between Rosie and Zaine, although predictable, was still a lovely journey to follow, as both juggled the hidden details of their lives. Overall, I thought this was a lighthearted and fun story.
Warm and funny, with really well drawn characters, and a delicious slowly developing romance as Rosie and Zain deal with their issues and move tentatively towards their hoped for happy ending. The pumpkin farm was the perfect setting for an autumnal story, with nice touches of drama as the developers move closer to destroying the dream of providing countryside retreats – and the twists and turns in the relationship at its centre really kept the pages turning, as I really hoped they could get past their many false starts and misunderstandings. The author’s emotional touch was just perfect – and some of the romantic moments so very beautiful they brought a tear to my eye. The ever present humour was gentle – and I really liked the contemporary touches in the story with the involvement of AI and chatbots. A very engaging love story – and one I very much enjoyed.
This was such a relaxing read. It was funny at times and had the undercurrent of romance bubbling through the story. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Firstly, thank you for the opportunity to receive an ARC of You Had Me at Pumpkin Patch. All thoughts and views are my own.
The first thing I loved about this story was that unlike other autumnal books I have read, this one was based within the UK and not the US. I loved that it was relatable to us Brits! You Had Me at Pumpkin Patch was charming, it was descriptive and it was funny. Rosie brings that sense of humour, uncertainty and clumsiness and I absolutely adored her character. I loved the grumpy-sunshine relationship between Rosie and Zain and this had me laughing out loud from their first meet in the showers!
Anita’s writing is warm, witty and sprinkled with seasonal charm. This is a story about rediscovery and finding joy when you least expect it. A must-read for anyone craving a feel-good, pumpkin-spiced hug in book form. I have now pre-ordered this ready for delivery, I need the trophy for my shelf! Thank you again for the opportunity of a lovely, autumnal cosy read! Bring on the -ber months!
I was a little iffy at first but ended up really enjoying this one. It felt very British but that may've been bc of the audiobook narrator's accent. It was a fun fall themed book. I enjoyed the characters and plot. Light spice for those interested.
A cute and cosy seasonal romance that had plenty of funny moments. I enjoyed it for what it was — light, festive, and perfect for autumn evenings. It’s probably not one I’d revisit, but with a blanket and a pumpkin candle, it made for a charming, feel-good read.
another cookie cutter autumn romance...but I actually quite liked this one.
Started so badly but after the first chapter it much improved and became quite likeable The scene setting was stunning and I happened to go physically to a very similar pumpkin patch set up half way through reading the book which helped..
Orange envelope character was pointless though and should have been left out story...as was the fiance killed by a cactus (wtf?)
Would like to mark it a 2.5 but that doesn't exist and it doesn't deserve a 2...so I upgraded to be kinder
I dont normally like spice but this book had the perfect amount of true love and spice. Grab a fleece blanket and a hot drink and enjoy a cosy read that will warm you up on the inside
This is such a cosy autumn read. I adored the mix of tropes. It is a book that you want to curl up with a blanket, light a candle and soak up the autumn vibes.
Unfortunately this one didn’t really work for me. It started well and the premise was good so I had high hopes, but there were a few plot holes and times where the story just jumped forward and we were told things happened, but never showed them. For me it needed more depth.
Zain- the MMC- seems to do a complete 180 half way through the book and suddenly starts trying to woo Rosie but until that point he’d been avoiding her and we barely saw any build up to their relationship. The spicy parts were very cringey and I didn’t feel any chemistry between them. The book might have been better without this forced relationship, with more focus on Rosie finding herself and working on the pumpkin retreats.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.
I don't read many romcoms, but like its title, this one had me at pumpkin patch. There's something magical about fields of orange orbs lighting up an autumn day. With publication set for late August, this novel will brighten the way towards winter. Rosie's Monday goes from bad to worse. Not only has she been usurped at work by an AI copywriter, but she also returns home to discover her boyfriend's affections have shifted to something, well, robotic. With the urge to flee, she drives into the Gloucestershire countryside but breaks down in the middle of nowhere. When an elderly lady landowner mistakes her for a wild swimming facilitator and retreat developer, a whole new life of rustic contentment presents itself - at least until the real job applicant turns up, until the landowner rumbles Rosie can't swim, and until the grumpy but gorgeous tenant pumpkin farmer finds out her fundraising retreat ideas involve theming up his prize patch. The writing is excellent. The humour is light, breezy and sometimes saucy. I read the book on an aeroplane on my phone with the font dialled big. I was in the middle seat and can confirm the novel’s lively sexy bits caught the attention of my fellow passengers. Oh, how I blushed. Rosie is a likeable and relatable main character and there's strong support from Zain the brooding pumpkin prince (un)charming, Agnes the eccentric landowner, Steve the hairless, three-legged cat with a penchant for denim, and the indomitable ladies of the wild swim club. There are also delightful cameos by characters from Anita Faulkner’s previous novels, A Colourful Country Escape and The Gingerbread Café. This book touches on the theme explored in The Gingerbread Café of independent creatives going back to basics to compete with the slick power of corporate business. As well as being a well-managed will-they-won’t-they romantic comedy, the novel is also a love song to nature, with beautiful descriptions of the lake, of roosting bats and of clear, bright skies. The author also weaves in two threads of intrigue as the reader wonders throughout what happened in Zain’s past to make him awkward and obstinate, and why is Rosie so anxious to stay one step ahead of a series of orange envelopes that landed on her doorstep before she ran. This is an independent review of an advance copy. I thank the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity. This novel will be published on 28 August.
Obsessed, that's the only way I can describe my relationship with this book.
If you've been keeping an eye on my reading list, you'll notice I've been in a run of autumn themed romances - all pumpkins and cinnamon spice - and honestly, this one has been my favourite.
Everything has gone wrong in Rosie's life - she's lost her job to AI and her boyfriend to, um, AI (read it to find out!). While fleeing, her car breaks down and she stumbles across a farm hoping to call for help, but through a case of mistaken identity, she finds herself with a new job planning pumpkin retreats with on site accommodation in a cabin on the edge of a wild swimming pond; the only other inhabitant of the site is grumpy and mysterious pumpkin farmer Zain, who is strangely protective of his pumpkins.
Rather than small town America, this autumnal romance was set in the countryside of the Cotswolds, which made for a nice change - though I do admit that I'm a little bit in love with those anyway! It definitely gave Laurie Gilmore vibes but in the UK.
The grumpy sunshine romance was done very well, and there was a gorgeous found family element to it too which had a group of female wild swimmers across generations coming together to help save the pumpkin farm. I saw another reviewer compare Rosie to Bridget Jones, and that was exactly what it felt like to me too - it was very lovely and funny too!
The AI elements to the story were very of the times but felt quite well done. I was writing an article about Google's new AI mode while reading the book, and my job is at times immersed in playing with AI and fighting the battle against AI, so it felt very on the nose. I worried it might stray into being a crusade against AI, but fortunately didn't go quite that far.
Overall, it was a brilliant autumnal read, perfect for cosy fall days. I'd definitely recommend it!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publishers for a review copy of this book.
This book was good, it made me smile and swoon on the firsts pages. Didn't they realize daydreams were the best place to be? That phrase immediately caught my heart...
This book smells of autumn leaves, rainy days, pumpkin spices and hot chocolate ! The autumnal setting was perfect. And I think the story was well constructed and plausible, even so I'm not so sure about chatbot, sexbot and catbot... doesn't seem kind of realistic actually (at least for the sexbot), or maybe it's just me not realizing we'll be soon invaded by robots :)
In spite of all that, the story was lacking something even though I'm not quite sure what it was. I was enjoying the story but, at the same time, it seemed to go too slowly, as if the end couldn't come too soon. I couldn't wait to reach the end.
Maybe it was because I didn't feel a connection with the characters : the physical and emotional descriptions of Zain and Rosie were clearly lacking, I couldn't properly picture Zain in my mind and there was zero physical description of Rosie. Apart from the book cover, we have no idea of what she looks like. I guess for me it's important to properly picture the characters in order to feel a connection with them and their story. Thinking about it, the book was a succession of well described scenes but there was no deep past stories that could have elevate the storytelling. There was some, but not enough and not deep enough. Even her past story with James, which was promising a big revelation from the start, was lacking and felt like a failed soufflé.
In everything, this book was not enough.
All in all, this was still a good book that I've enjoyed reading but that I wouldn't read again.
Bonus point for the heated sex scene in the pumpkin patch : Oh My !

‘Rosie and Him’ best line ever and best name for a boat ever! It made me chuckle when I first read it and I’m still chuckling now, along with a certain theme tune playing in my head. 😂 Probably not the intended take away from the book, but it certainly tickled me; oh and let’s not forget Steve, the hairless cat that wears denim jackets. I need to visit this retreat!! 😂
I loved the whole book, it was peppered with funny one liners and laugh out loud situations, I mean walking in on your boyfriend with a robotic sex bot, that an AI controlled house talks to, comedy gold!
Rosie was a great characters, down on her luck and feeling very isolated and lonely, so very relatable. I loved her determination and bravery. Zain is also lonely but doesn’t realise it, he’s built walls to protect himself and think bring alone is best but meeting Rosie really opens his eyes and his heart. It was so sweet to see him slowly opening up to Rosie and her retreat ideas.
The retreat was a wonderful slice of heaven, I started off like Rosie cringing and jumping when a spider was spotted, to taking deep cleansing breaths and only seeing beauty, friendship and cleansing freedom. The back to nature ideas were perfect, who wouldn’t want to sleep in a tree house and look out over a field of pumpkins? Some great autumn descriptions and I learnt a lot about the different types of pumpkins too, I didn’t know there were so many. I found all of Zain’s nerdy talks very informative and his geekiness made me like him more.
A fantastic autumn read that everyone should read with pumpkins glowing and hot chocolate steaming next to them.
You Had Me at Pumpkin Patch is a warm and cosy easy read and Anita’s writing is so witty and brilliant, whilst having the autumnal theme running throughout the book. Pumpkin spice and all things nice! I really enjoyed that this story is set in the UK, as a lot of Autumnal books are set in the USA so it was nice to be able to relate to the setting more. I also found it very relatable which made for easy reading.
Although there was beautiful description, it was also really funny in parts which made it a really enjoyable read. The book starts where Rosie is having the most rotten luck and everything is going wrong for her. First she loses her job because of AI, as well as her boyfriend. I think it’s a really important thing to raise awareness of AI as it is becoming more and more popular every day.
Rosie is a really likeable character and her and Zain had a very grumpy-sunshine relationship - which did make me laugh throughout.
I loved the setting of Autumn Meadows and the mention of all the animals and it just made me feel all cosy and warm and ready for Autumn.
I would highly recommend this book if you are wanting a warm, cosy autumnal read which has characters that you will love and an easy story to follow.
I just want to say thank you for the opportunity to receive an ARC of You Had Me at Pumpkin Patch. It is my first autumnal read of the year and it did not disappoint.
You Had Me At Pumpkin Patch is a light and easy read that suits the cosy season perfectly. With its autumnal setting and feel-good tone, it offers a comforting escape ideal for curling up with on a quiet afternoon.
The characters are generally likeable and there’s a warmth to the story that makes it appealing, particularly for readers who enjoy gentle romance with a touch of whimsy. The seasonal charm is undeniable and there are moments that feel genuinely sweet and heartwarming.
That said, the writing can feel underdeveloped at times. The prose is quite simplistic, which may suit some readers but left me wanting a bit more depth. Certain plot points veer into the overly outlandish, such as the robot cats and the exaggerated drama with ex-boyfriends. These elements risk taking the reader out of the story and may not work for everyone.
Overall, it’s a pleasant enough read with cosy vibes and a likeable cast, though it may be a better fit for readers looking for something very light and not too grounded in reality.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Pumpkins, tree houses, Demin wearing cats, and more pumpkins! The perfect cosy autumnal romance that I couldn't put down!
When life throws Rosie several cyber curve balls, she ends up on Agnes' farm surrounded by wild swimming and Pumkins. When Agnes asks her for help, Rosie somehow ends up agreeing, and the only thing in her way is Zain - the sexy but reclusive pumkin farmer.
This book was the perfect intoxicating mix of autumn, longing and and cosy log cabins. I couldn't put it down. I was transported to Agnes' farm and the cosy log cabin.
The found family trope in this book really shows the power of women supporting women and how having someone behind you can change your whole world.
The grumpy x sunshine trope has you routing for Rosie and Zain from the beginning, and you can't help falling with them.
I think this will be a perfect autumnal romance, and I challenge anyone to put it down!!
- I really don’t no how I feel about this book. I think I just struggled to get along with it, don’t know if it was the way it was written or I just didn’t connect with the characters. Like first of Rosie was a little strange, she gets fired, her boyfriend is having sex with a robot and then there is this weird story of James who wasn’t a ex fiancé a guy she was on and off with who died and actually had a fiancé and a baby, this was info we kind of given to us but looked over. Then there is the awkward job interview that wasn’t for her but she goes along for it and then never says anything and then you have Zain the grumpy awkward pumpkin farmer. I wanted a little more from him, as the blurb mention he uses the chat box, you could tell all the dates and what he was saying weren’t him, and it was just weird. I don’t know I wasn’t sure on this book.

This was the yummiest book I've read this year absolutely beautiful.
Zain is a grumpy farmer set in his ways and very protective of his crops. Rosie has lost her job and boyfriend and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Mistaken for the new employee Agnes was waiting for Rosie goes along with it learning all about the farm life she wants to be hi eat but does she really have to?
Aah I loved this book zain might be my new favorite fictional character and Rosie is so sweet. The descriptions of the farm are amazing it's very vivid and it makes me want to go and stay there with zain and Rosie. I love the ideas of how to make money so Agnes doesn't have to sell up.
Everything about this book was great and delicious and I devoured it in 2days
FMC Rosie finds herself in a bit of a pickle as her world is turned upside down, inside out and the wrong way round 🥴 Not one to take the easy route she burys herself in secrets and half-truths and tries her best to hide from her problems, and then ends up stumbling into a new job at Autumn Meadows Farm.
MMC Zain is a quiet and brooding pumpkin farmer at said farm who gradually falls for Rosie's quirkiness and charm, but is not very forthcoming himself either resulting in a messy relationship full of lots of will they won't situations, and then a massive bust up!
I won't give anymore of the story away but if you fancy a Bridget Jones style autumnal read full of pumpkins, spice and all things nice (and entertaining) then this is the ideal book for you ❤️
This was a really cute, cosy read. Our FMC reminded me of Bridget Jones, only she actually did really want to work on herself and find her true self through spending time in nature.
I liked the messaging about the healing powers of nature, of nature vs technology, and being true to yourself.
I’m always here for AI hate so appreciated that side of the story, though the robot cats did feel slightly out-there for me. I hope they don’t ever make an appearance in real life 😂
The relationship between the FMC and MMC was really sweet, I almost wish the book was longer so we could have spent more time watching that love blossom.
Thank you to HQ for sending me a copy of this book.
This was a cosy read that I could picture myself reading in front of the warm fireplace on an autumn day. There were moments that made me laugh whilst reading as Rosie reminded me of Bridget Jones let loose in the countryside. Her and Zain were definitely grumpy x sunshine which I liked, but I would say that their chemistry could have been stronger. Sometimes it just seemed lacking.
Overall, this was a light hearted and warm read and I would recommend for lovers of small town and autumn themed romances.
I received an ARC from the publisher for an unbiased review.
I loved this book. First, the author's voice is so engaging and unique. Her two main characters, Rosie and Zain, were so real and three-dimensional, and I was caught up in Rosie's world straight away and really desperate to find out more about Zain.
I thought the author dealt with the AI issues in a wholly realistic way without overdoing or overwhelming the main story of Rosie finding her way. I just indulged myself and read this in a day. Thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and emotionally satisfying story.
This was a cosy and autumnal escapism read and would be the perfect book to curl up with on a winters evening while the rain is lashing down outside with your favourite blanket and drink of choice. . This book had a great mix of characters and also covered themes which are very topic at the moment all whilst set against the back drop of the beautiful sounding Cotswold countryside.
This was a delight to read with some great humorous laugh out loud moments. Love this authors way with words and looking forward to their next book already.
What a beautiful charming, cosy read. Rosie has lost her job and her boyfriend, she just wants to escape and ends up on a farm in The Cotswolds. Due to a miscommunication Rosie finds herself working on the farm. Zain is a gruff, good looking pumpkin farmer. When they meet up there is a spark between them, can they be friends/workmates or more? Agnes who owns the farm is a character as is Steve the three legged cat! This book was filled with cosy, feel good vibes, fun and romance, a treat to enjoy while sipping a pumpkin spiced latte.
Oh my gourd, this book was EVERYTHING I wanted in an autumn romance! 🍁🎃 You Had Me At Pumpkin Patch is a gorgeous pumpkin-spiced hug of a story. Anita Faulkner has absolutely nailed a magical autumn vibe—warm, witty, romantic, and brimming with golden leaves, grumpy farmers, and pumpkin patch perfection.
I loved how modern and fresh this book felt, weaving in themes like AI while still giving us a timeless, cosy (and a lil bit spicy) romance. The autumn setting is perfection - I could practically smell the pumpkin spice and hear the crunch of leaves underfoot.
