Jordan and Alissa made it out of Portland, away from ground zero, where the fever still rages on. But they couldn't beat the quarantine.
Now, barriers are being built, and the remaining survivors of the outbreak are trapped. The undead just keep coming. The wave of infected is building as city after city is devoured.
As they head east into the mountains, they will be forced to fight both the dead and the living as they search for a safe place to weather the storm. But what they believed would be the death of them might actually save them, and in this hell on earth, they'll uncover something even more shocking than the risen hope.
This is exactly what I needed, a fun little trip through the zombie apocalypse. Can you say that the apocalypse is fun and that you need to spend some time with zombies? Why not!
I like to have books like this in my book pocket. Sure, it’s been a while since I read Until the End (Quarantined #1), a couple of years actually, but it didn’t take much time to recall what had happened in the first book. Quarantined is a series I know, written by an author I’ve read before (six books now). I know what to expect (more or less) and I know I will like it. I needed something that was light and fun and had great banter and Tracey Ward delivered.
In the End is book two in the series, you really need to read Until the End first. Tracey Ward also has the Survival Series, which technically follows Quarantined, but you can easily read either one first.
In the End is the continuation of Jordan and Ali’s story and it’s told from Jordan’s perspective. Tracey Ward has filled this book with her fantastic banter; its’s great to see a couple with death knocking on the doorstep still have the presence of mind to keep the fresh-ass comebacks rolling.
The story is a good one. It could use a thorough proofing, but I just let that go and enjoyed the storytelling.
Would I recommend In the End? I’m six books into this author and waiting for more. Yes, I would recommend In the End! It was the fix that I needed.
Okay, I'm definitely adding Alissa to the list of people I want with me when the zombie apocalypse comes, but we're ditching Jordan because he's a dick.
The nightmares will still come for us. They always do. There’s nothing either of us can ever do to make them stop. But at least we know we won’t face them alone. ***
Taking up right where UNTIL THE END left off, we are on the road with Syd, Jordan and Alissa as they try to out run the dead in search of life. Syd has his thoughts on what they should do and so does Jordan. Both are butting heads and in turn, Alissa is caught in the middle. With stress at an all-time high, and nothing but an RV as their sanctuary, the tension is flaring. Jordan and Alissa are constantly fighting as they remember their painful past their bleak future. Is this relationship doomed before it even starts? Has the world given up on those trapped within the Quarantine? Is a cure just a far-fetched dream?
Although I understood where Jordan’s anger was coming from in IN THE END, it didn’t make me like the way he was acting towards Alissa at times. He seemed like a flight risk throughout the read, until he would remember his promise to her to never leave, and that didn’t sit right with me. I mean, I love that he would stand by his word, but I hated that his feelings weren’t there a lot of the time. I don’t know, maybe I am just reading between the lines and that isn’t at all how it really was. I do get that stress will make you do crazy things. So maybe that is it. Because lord have mercy they were under constant stress. That much is true. But in the end, I still loved him. Always will.
Alissa learns something very startling about her Uncle in book 1 and it plays a huge role in this one. She can no longer look at things from her old perspective, everything is different and must be seen in a new light. And Jordan knows that all too well. This book being in Jordan’s POV we see how this new revelation affects not only Alissa and Syd, but him as well. He has to keep his guard up more and I can see how that plays with his emotions.
IN THE END was such a fabulous zombie read and a definite page turner. We were doing some flooring work at our house, so I wasn’t able to pull an all nighter and finish it like I wanted to; like the book was calling me to do. Although I can see how it could be one that someone reads all the way through without stopping. You never want to put the book down. It is that intense and that suspenseful.
This series had me all kinds of crazy. My nerves were shot, my heart near exploding, and my taste for zombies went tenfold. I couldn't believe how much I adored this book! I am telling anyone and everyone that will listen to get this series! It is a must read!! Like you must get it today. Now! Oh yeah, I’ll be moving on to the spin off series soon. WRITING ON THE WALL is the first book in the Survival series. And I cannot wait to start it. This author has a new fangirl and it is me!
Not as good as the previous book was. :( Still good though, but it just had a lot of frustrating moments that just made me want to put down the book and not try again.
I was totally delighted to find out that our MC for this book would be Jordan. He is an amazing character and I wanted to have POV of him in the first book. My wish came true in this one. We get to know him more and more, we find out how he feels about Alissa (and also about her illness, because that is still heavy baggage to handle), we see him survive, we see so many things happen to him. He was an amazing character to follow.
But what is the problem then? Well, for one the biggest one is Syd. We learn about this guy in the previous book. Alissa's family (for spoiler sake I won't say much more than that). But boy he was so annoying. He kept making stupid mistakes (which could have been avoided had he just listened), he hated on Jordan a lot. Yes, I can slightly understand why Syd didn't like/hate Jordan, but sorry, I found it petty and pathetic. The whole book these two are fighting, or having some awkward and soon broken friendlier times. It just got so frustrating especially since it just felt unfair to Jordan.
Sadly this also brought chaos into Alissa's and Jordan's relationship. Syd is her family, Jordan is her boyfriend, but she kept picking Syd's side. And then there were other stuff as well. And sorry, the wonderful, cute romance in the previous book? It was practically gone in this one. There were some awkward moments with romance, but you could just feel the tension in it, and that ruined it. :(
More spoilers
So there were some good parts. Jordan, the whole part that they were surviving while avoiding zombies (minus the fights, the arguments, the tension), the safe haven, several fun conversations (which make some great quotes to remember), and the ending which gave hope for a better future. But really, the tension, Syd, how the romance was destroyed, typical zombie book/movie stupidity, and several other things just ruined the book for me, causing me to not being able to rate this book higher than 3 stars.
Just finished re reading this for the second time and again same with book 1 I loved it! My only complaint is that I didn't want to stop reading and I know this is the end of Alissa and Jordan's story and that makes me sad :-( but I'm happy there is a connecting series so I can stay in this world for abit longer :-)
I really enjoyed this series. I'm not super pleased with the lack of a wrap up for Alissa and Jordan; there were too many questions still looming and I would rather have seen what ended up happening with those issues than the flash forward to 9 years later, which really did nothing for me. Excellent zombie series, up until the end! I will definitely read Tracey Ward's other books.
I liked Jordan in the first book... when I didn't have to read his macho, arrogant and insecure thoughts. Dude got so annoying!
I still liked the book... I thought Alissa wanting to help at the hospital was great. This series was good, and it passed the time while I've been unwell, but I don't think I'll be reading this again.
"It's such a simple thing.... What she needs is exactly what I need -- someone to have her back until the bitter end."
*I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.* In the End is the second and final installment of Alissa and Jordan's harrowing trek to find safety in a zombie-ravaged quarantined area of the world. They've made it out of Portland aka "Ground Zero", only to have the Fever and the infected follow them. After the Fever rolls through the town they thought was their safe haven, Ali, Jordan, and Syd take off in an RV. The government has cut off all major escape routes out of Oregon, effectively trapping them inside hell. That's when they set their hopes on heading into the mountains.
I was excited to find out that this was going to be from Jordan's POV. Firstly, because I wanted to get in his head and see what he REALLY thought about Ali's condition and how he remained so calm all the time, and more of his back story. Secondly, I'm a sucker for guy's POV. I love 'em! That being said, it took me a while to get into this one. It wasn't until chapter 5 that I was able to get completely absorbed in the story again. It started off with the same action, but it felt like it was lacking the same "feel" as the first book. I found myself missing Alissa's voice, but Jordan's grew on me.
"I look at her in surprise. A month ago this girl didn't know the first thing about zombies, now she's planning big picture eradication. I've created a monster. A sexy, vengeful monster. I spin my bat in my hand, grinning at her. 'Let's go get 'em then.'"
The addition of Syd upped the tension. He's very protective of Al, and not fond of Jordan. In any way really. The two are always bickering, whether it be over Ali, or just which way they're going. Soon, the tension and bickering begins to spread to Ali and Jordan's relationship. Spending all day, every day, EVERYTHING with each other is beginning to wear on everyone. This is another example of how the characters develop and have real emotions. It's not the constant 'I love you and need to spend every waking moment with you.' They get bitchy, they get crabby, and they want time to themselves.
I LOVED the survivors camp! I loved ALL of the characters we meet here. Yes, even Simmons, annoying as he was. It was a tight knit group of people, who knew what they were doing. Of course, you can't gloss over what got them inside in the first place.
The last couple chapters of the book have you glued to your screen and you can't look away. It was so sad to
The epilogue. It took me a little while to figure out who's POV this was from. The author had told me that she had set this ending up to lead into her Survival series, making it an ending, but not. I didn't really get that until the ending. It makes sense how this leads into another series from there. I actually like the way that was handled.
It's sad to know this is the end of Ali and Jordan. But, I will be picking up the Survival series next! :)
"What's a good way to tell a man with a gun that you do not have carnal knowledge of his daughter? Short answer -- there isn't one. Long answer -- there isn't one, dumbass."
Grab your weapon of choice as we continue to brave the wilderness, other humans and the zombies alongside Jordan, Alyssa and Syd as they fail to beat the race out of the quarantine zone and find themselves facing more danger, more zombies and an accident that could mean the end of Jordan.
In the End is the second and final book of Tracey Ward’s Quarantined series. Jordan shares his view of what is happening with a totally natural “guy tone.” Relying more on the interaction of each character and those around them, there is less zombie bashing and gaining more insight to the mechanics of the relationships that have formed. Alyssa is skating on the edge of a precipice as she needs more medication to keep her focused on their reality and the ever-growing tension between the three of them. Her meds are dwindling quickly, and a fresh supply is nowhere to be found. Syd is determined to play the Father card and lets Jordan know at every opportunity how unworthy of Alyssa he is. When they arrive at a safe haven, life should be easier, but it actually seems to plunge a bigger wedge between Jordan and Alyssa. Can they survive in a town that is like a beacon to the zombies? Scientists work feverishly to find a cure, but will it come in time?
Travel through Jordan’s heart and mind to see the inner chaos that runs rampant among his thoughts in this detailed read of emotion, danger and almost giving up. It was amazing how differently I felt about others when they are seen through another’s eyes. Great reading, amazing writing and a world that feels a little too real for comfort.
Series: Quarantined - Book 2 Publication Date: January 8, 2014 Publisher: Tracey Ward ISBN: 1494908115 Genre: YA Sci-fi | Fantasy Print Length: 266 pages Available from: Amazon
This was a very good continuation of the story, Until the End. That story ended with Ali and Jordan reaching her father safely. They're still within the "quarantine" area and the gov has walled in the area and doesn't seem interested in letting people out or helping those that are inside. Things are rather rough for the trio, especially because it's just the 3 of them and the constant watch and always begin together is fraying nerves as much as the Zombies are. I liked how things played out...there's a lot going on as well as possible safety. Things don't go perfectly but by the end of the story there's a light at the end of the tunnel and you do get know that Jordan and Ali go on to have a HEA together.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a very well written story, focusing mostly on the zombie threat and the things people have to go through to deal with that while staying alive and hopefully building relationships with others. I liked Jordan and Ali and liked seeing them together. Their relationship wasn't as intense as some stories out there but I thought it worked for the situation they were in and it didn't diminish the their overall solidness. This was a very good story and I'd recommend it (as long at you read book #1 first). :D
Another fast-paced, intense zombie tale by Tracey Ward! She has joined my list of favourite authors! Her stories are well thought out and funny, emotional, scary, romantic (as romantic as you can get while on the run from flesh-eating undead!!) and I will be reading these books again in the future! I highly recommend both of her zombie series (Quarantined and Survival) as they are awesome!! And I love how they are connected.
It's the characters. They always drive a good zombie take and while I'm sad this series is limited to two books, I loved The ride. Excellent riding. Yes it's ZA but it's the top shelf kind. Will be reading the sister series next!
Tracey Ward has done it again. To be honest, I don’t think I have read a Tracey Ward book that I hated, she is that good. This time Jordan is our narrator, which she does an awesome job thinking/talking like a guy. There is a part in the book that always brings be to tears, no matter how many times I read the book (so make sure you have tissues nearby). This is that last book for the Quarantined series but there are 2 other series, Survival and Rising (Rising series is not finished yet), out right now that you can read that do bring back Ali, Jordan, and some other characters you might have missed and want to catch up on.
Favorite lines from the book: -She’s like a female version of Hawkeye and I’m a little disturbed about what that says about my feelings regarding Hawkeye. I try not to analyze it too much. -Romantics aside, I promised her. I gave her my word. Keeping my word doesn’t make me sweet, it makes me honorable. After the social breakdown we’ve all just witnessed, being a man of my word means more now than ever, don’t you think? -I can’t help it, I chuckle softly. “We’re on the run from zombies. I believe in the Easter Bunny at this point. I even believe in the Energizer Bunny.” “Why wouldn’t you believe in him?” “What? Which one?” “Energizer. They’ve never said he’s alive. He’s always been represented just as he is; a battery operated toy. Saying you don’t believe in him is like saying you don’t believe in Mentos or Preparation H.” I frown. “That’s an odd pairing.” “Just because you’ve never eaten them or rubbed them on your ass,” she says, ignoring me, “doesn’t mean they aren’t real.” -I farted yesterday and Alissa told me, ‘Bless you’, like I’d sneezed. -Huh. It’s like an apocalyptic Craigslist ad. -Now he frowns. I’ve made Santa sad. -“Ali,” I say heavily, “that movie is a love letter to gaming. I not only watched it, I bought the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and brought it with me to college. -I already feel like less of a man than I ever have, I’m not sure I want to add bedwetting and whimpering in my sleep to my list of shortcomings. -In the same way I take comfort in knowing Alissa would weep for me. There’s a strange sense of pride in it. In the man you must have been to earn that level of devotion from a woman that strong. We should all be that lucky. We should all be that man.
The first book of the series was from the female leads', Alissa, perspective. This, the second book, is written by the male leads', Jordan, perspective. It took me a few chapters to keep it straight, because I was use to reading it like the first book. The story continues with the three main characters trying to find a safe haven from the zombie hordes. They are still in a continuous search for Alissa's medication to keep her on an even keel, and basic supplies to keep them all going. They are in luck when they do find a town that is surrounded with a fence, but at what cost? The world has changed, and the people have changed with it, sometimes not for the better. I think the following quote from the book sums up this second book pretty well.
"You can't pick and choose your crazy. You've gotta roll with the one you've got."
Loved this book! Although, I was a little confused with I read the Epilogue, but apparently there is a spinoff book that takes place 9 years later.
Continuing on with Ali and Jordan's story was an absolute no brainer with In the End, Quarantined, book two in her series. Ali and Jordan are on their way to Ali's Uncle Sid to find a way to survive the zombie apocalypse. Ali, Sid and Jordan make a unique combination of characters. From the military, father figure Sid to Jordan, an avid zombie apocalypse theorist, Ward takes us on a wild ride as both struggle to keep Ali safe. Ali, on the other hand, needs no one to save her as she battles her mental illness and the new struggles of this "Fever" ridden world.
Ward still keeps your heart thumping with this one as the little group is continually tested. Jordan and Sid are incredible in their survival tactics. Ali, once again, will win you over with her growth, survival, and love for these two. She is truly the bond that keeps them all together. Ward definitely throws some curveballs in there that will keep you engaged long after this series is over!
Overall a good book and series and I'm going to continue with it but there's some very weird off-handed comments that are misogynistic and weird. Like is this the author's opinions or Jordans? I'm specifically referring to the "Two Broke Girls" comment where he says they're broke because they're whores like I'm sorry, excuse me?? I've never even seen the show but I doubt that's why and it's fucking weird that he would even think that and so nonchalantly too.
There were some inside jokes in the first book about being racist which I didn't think too much into just set off some little flags but I did think it was weird and now with the misogynistic inner dialogue it's piling up a bit. We'll see where it takes us farther on because I'm into the apocalypse vibes right now and I ain't stopping.
A satisfactory conclusion in all to the 2 book series, but not outstanding. The negativity of the relationship between Jordan and Syd was wearisome and pretty pointless. Syd stepping into the overbearing father role so quickly was eye roll inducing. And I thought he was supposed to be this big survivalist type person, who taught Alissa all her skills? Because that was not communicated well here, instead Jordan was the one highlighted as being amazing, with his knowledge relying completely on zombie mythology, and no practical skills. They could have been a great combo, but the sniping at each other was just too much.
A few strange decisions were made in the general narrative, and the ending was pretty pat, but there were still enough good bits to be worth reading.
This book was okay but it seriously paled in comparison to the previous book in this series. Switching the narrators (from Ali in Book 1 to Jordan in Book 2) was a huge let down since Ali was a far more intriguing character struggling with mental illness in Book 1. Jordan for the first half of this book is mainly focused on staying on the good side of his girlfriend's Dad and that is a pretty lame storyline in the zombie apocalypse.
Jordan's injury later should have been an interesting (if predictable) twist but it sort of fell flat since I never felt that Jordan was in any real danger of being expelled from the compound.

Having just finished book 2 of Quarantined series I realise I was so excited to start book 2 I forgot to review Book 1. Sorry ! Maybe that is the best RECOMMEND though. The is an amazing series. It takes you through several Years of HORROR as they struggle to serviv and lose friends and loved ones along the way. You live their HORROR. A GREAT APOCALYPSE SAGA..I RECOMMEND !
I couldn't put this book down. The shift of POV after the first book of the series easily pulled me in after a comment questioning Jordan's true feelings toward Hawkeye and had me hooked throughout. It was nice being able to see Jordan as a weak/vulnerable character after Alissa had him portrayed as so strong and perfect in the previous book. That didn't stop me from wanting to shake both of them a few times to knock some sense into their heads, but that's always the fun part of reading.
The ending is super confusing. There is no real resolution on what is going on with Alis illness and the stuff they say about the cure is ambivalent at best. Kind of disappointing and it feels very much like a bait and switch to something that was supposed to be a two part series to make me read the other one after this. I dont know if I'll do that, I'm honestly not that interested despite liking this book overall.

What I truly enjoy about Tracey Ward's books is the way I can relate to the characters no matter how different they are from me. It's not so much their personalities as it is their reaction to experiences, their will to survive, and they need for others. Ward is among the few writers who really speak to me with amazing storytelling, creative setting and plot, and characters I come to love.
I really liked this. I wanted more in between the epilogue and ending though. I liked getting Jordan's perspective. Parts of this made me want to cry. I realize this is the most disjointed review ever. Too bad because those are my thoughts.
This book continues the story of Alissa and Jordan as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse. This book lacks the urgency and action found in the first. Still an interesting read in this YA dystopian saga.
It definitely was not as good as the first book. The first one was action packed, this one was a bit blah in comparison. I still enjoyed it and finished it in a day but it felt lacking.
