A prehistoric patient zero. An infectious primal hunger. Some discoveries are better left buried.
Research Station, Siberia. Madison Price would go to the ends of the Earth to be part of archeological history. So, when a team of scientists uncover an ice-preserved Neanderthal, she puts a personal tragedy to the side to exhume the body. But after one of the scientists starts exhibiting strange, violent symptoms, Madison fears their discovery has unleashed a lethal virus.
With the remote lab under a panicked lockdown, Madison's dream excavation decays into a waking nightmare. As more members of the team turn rabid, the archaeologist and the remaining survivors may be humanity's last hope.
Can Madison contain the epidemic before it's unleashed upon the world?

This one was very interesting for it being a prequel. A different take on the zombie apocalypse. I plan on continuing the series. As of right now the whole boxset is on Kindle Unlimited.
Pretty short for the first book in the series and i wish that we got to find out what happened to the main character at the end when the plane crashed. However, this book sets the tone for the rest of the series to give the readers the backstory that they wanted that started all of it. This was the pivotal event that caused their entire world to cease civilization. The dead state series follows this with the first book called Fallout. Very good book, and great originality. 8/10

Loves this prequel to the fullest. As an avid zompoc reader I can say this story was one of the very best. I LOVED EVWRYRHING ABOUT IT. the isolation the storm the cold. Only bad thing I can say is that I wished it was soooo much longer. Like 500 pages or more longer. It plays out like a movie in your head. I can't wait to start the next book. I hope it love it just the same if not more. Great job Derek.
This book is a prequel to the Dead State series and its a great first book to start it off. Right from the get-go, the tone is set for the rest of the book a page-turner with no let-up. I have read the next book in the series Fallout so it's straight on to Survival Road. I highly recommend this book.
I believe the books in this series are self published so the writing is less than desirable. Spelling and grammar errors are rampant in this book. I haven’t read any of the rest of this series. The story line is good and I’m a sucker for zombie books. Four stars because the plot is good and now I’m intrigued to see what the rest of the series holds. 🤷🏻♂️
This is a free short story from the Dead State series and I am so glad I gave it a try! Absolutely loved the story and already feel like I'm hooked on the series - I will be starting book 1 soon!
If you enjoy apocalyptic, survival stories give this a try.
A fun intro to what I hope is a great series. Most of the apocalyptic books i read tend to start in the middle or aftermath of the event, but this one takes place at the source which I really enjoyed.
This book starts out at a perfect location for bad things to happen. It is intense. A lot of people have to be killed because they are infected. And there are still some infected out there.
