Listen to the next in the family saga of the historical Scottish Grant and Ramsay clans.
She convinces her brother's best friend to help her stop a war. But will they provoke one instead?
Kyla Grant once believed her sire, the legendary Alexander Grant, was invincible, but his brush with death changed her mind. The whole clan is still reeling from Alex's battle injury when a new threat arises from their long-time rivals, the Buchan clan. Kyla, convinced that the Grants cannot take another battle, is desperate for a peaceful resolution. Her plan is to make a personal appeal to the Buchan's only living child, Davina, but she knows her parents would never allow her to risk her safety....
Finlay MacNicol is always quick with a joke, but life has never given him less to laugh about. His mother is dying, and yet another battle is on the horizon. When his laird assembles a group of warriors for a scouting mission to the Buchans, Finlay does his duty and joins them. He thought he knew what to expect from the mission, but he certainly didn't expect that Kyla would sneak along, or that his laird would assign him as her protector. Kyla's beauty has always affected Finlay, but her bravery and sweetness soon stir deeper feelings.
After visiting Davina, Kyla becomes determined to rescue the lass from the clutches of her abusive sire. Finlay agrees to help her, but there's a risk they may provoke a war rather than prevent one.
Keira Montclair is the pen name of an author who lives in South Carolina with her husband. She writes fast-paced historical romance, often with children as secondary characters.
If she’s not writing, she prefers to spend time with her grandchildren. She’s worked as a high school math teacher, a registered nurse, and an office manager. She loves ballet, mathematics, puzzles, learning anything new, and creating new characters for her readers to fall in love with.
She considers her work done well when her readers shed tears over her stories, but there’s always a happy ending! Her bestselling series is a family saga that follows two medieval Scottish clans through three generations and now numbers over fifty books.
This was such a wonderful and exciting story to read, I had a hard time putting the book down! Kyla is the type of heroine I love, strong, stubborn and wanting only to do what is right to help her clan, even though all might not go according to plan!! I thought the story very well written with some twists and turns that caught me by surprise. Never a dull moment in the lives of the Grant and Ramsay clans!
With Kyla being determined to help her clan and prevent a war, Finlay agrees to help her as her protector and even though there's danger all around them, a romance blossoms between them. If they can survive what they go through, they certainly do deserve a HEA!!
Loved their story and looking forward to reading the other books in this series. Keira Montclair is quickly becoming a "must read" author!!
I really like Kyla and Finlay. It was nice that Kyla wasn't a damsel in distress but she also didn't fall into the "not like other girls" trope, which I hate. She just was a strong and caring girl who wanted to make things better in her own way. She and Finlay are adorable together. I kind of love that Finlay's star quality is his humor, and not just that he's a really strong dude. Something other than just being a warrior.
Kyla by Keira Montclair is one of those WOW stories. While, book 9 in her popular "The Highland Clan", it can be read as a stand alone.
I was enticed and enthralled with Kyla Grant and Finlay MacNicol's story. Well written, fast paced with an enjoyable and captivating cast of characters, both good and evil. The storyline flows seamlessly with intrigue, a bit of mystery and suspense, that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The plot is intriguing and captivating. I was glued to the pages of Kyla and Finlay's trust, and their love of each other and their clan. Kyla has such a tender heart, she gets herself and Finlay in a world of trouble when she tries to help her new friend, Davina, the daughter of Clan Grant and Clan Ramsey's worst enemy, Buchan Clan. My heart broke for Finlay and Kyla as they try to survive their ordeal with the horrible Glenn Buchan, his creed, his thirst for revenge and his desire to be a powerful chieftain.
The reader will found themselves thoughly invested in "Kyla", from the romance to the intense suspense to the fighting and more. I absolutely love Kyla, Finlay, and the next generation of Grants and Ramsey's. Such a fresh story with refreshing characters. I look forward to the next story in "The Highland Clan" family saga, which promises to be Bethia Ramsay’s story. The author gives readers a bit of insight into her story through the epilogue. Keira Monclair is an amazing storyteller with her characters, her vivid descriptions and her knowledge of Scottish clans, family sagas, romance and passion. Simply mesmerizing! ! A keeper and true treasure of Scottish Romance. Another hit by Keira Montclair. I received a complimentary copy, however, all opinions are my own.
Finlay and Kyla's story was really good. I am so happy it came out this soon. I can never get enough of this author's characters. I know them all because I have read every single one since Alex and Maggie's story. I just love them all.
This is Kyla Grant's story. She is Alex Grant's eldest daughter. His wee Lassie he used to carry upon his chest. War is coming and Kyla wants it to stop. She feels she knows how to help. Her brother assigns his second to be her protector.
Finlay has been given the task to protect his Laird's sister. The beautiful lass he loves to tease. He has a heavy heart though, because his mother has been extremely ill. She is close to death and she makes him give his word to her.
This was an amazing story. I enjoyed how their relationship developed. My heart felt like it would stop...in reference to Alex and Maddie Grant. All of the characters are amazing.
The Grants and their allies have had a rough year and it looks like war is on the horizon once again. Hoping to stave off another battle, The Grant’s eldest daughter is convinced she must reach out to Davina Buchan . . . the daughter of their clan’s enemy. Slipping away to join with a scouting party, Kyla finds herself included in the mission as long as she keeps her brother’s second, Finlay MacNicol with her at all times as her protector.
When Finlay MacNicol finds himself assigned as Kyla’s protector, he begins to see her in a different light. While he has known her since they were children, he is finally seeing her as a brave and determined young woman with one of the biggest hearts in all the Highlands. Their attraction to one another is immediate, however, Finlay does not feel he is worthy of marrying the Great Alexander Grant’s daughter.
When the scouting mission turns sour and The Grants are thrown off Buchan land, Kyla is determined to save Davina from her abusive father no matter the cost while also trying to avoid a war between their clans. When she convinces Finlay to assist, their lives become intertwined forever and it will be up to the Grants and all their allies to return peace to their beloved Highlands.
This installment of Keira Montclair’s Highland Clan series was a true celebration of all the characters readers have come to know and love throughout the Clan Grant Books as well as this series. When Kyla finds herself in danger, all the clans (Grants, Ramsays, Drummonds, and Camerons) join to not only save her, but rid the land of the enemies that have been attempting to destroy their peace once and for all.
I loved Kyla’s character. She was a wonderful mix of intelligence and caring thrown in with bravery. She knew what she had to do to protect the one’s she loved even if it cost her. Finlay was a great match to Kyla. Quick to laughter and humor, he is also a great warrior and protector. His personal struggles show readers depth to his personality and add a unique twist to the story that really adds to the plot.
As always, it is a joy to see how our favorite characters are faring . . . especially when the clan gathers together for times of trouble as well as in times of celebration. I think that is one of the reasons I truly love Keira’s books . . . these characters really feel like family. And, while we have been reading about the same clans for two generations, each tale is a unique story to that couple and always feels fresh and exciting.
Kyla receives 5 stars as I impatiently await Bethia Ramsay’s story!

Highlands of Scotland, Late 13th century
This is the story of Kyla Grant and Finlay MacNicol. Kyla is Alex Grant’s daughter sister of Jamie and Jake Grant. Findlay is Jamie Grant’s second in command and best friend. Kyla and Finlay have known each other since they were children. Sometimes it takes a second look to know what is right in front of you.
As there is a lot of turmoil since the attack on Alex Grant. While he is recuperating from his near fatal wound twins, Jamie and Jake are acting as Lairds for their Da. These are Kyla’s elder brothers.
Kyla is determined to act as her Clan's peacemaker even if it puts herself in danger. She will do whatever it takes to protect her clan and allies. After watching her Da the great Alex Grant in a weaker state and he mama always worried. She will do whatever it takes to stop this upcoming clan war. The only way is her connection with their enemies daughter, Davina Buchan. As they are similar in age and can feel compassion in her.
She follows her brother Jamie to go to enemy Buchan on a peaceful mission. It is to secretly find out if other enemies are hiding out in Buchan holding. Kyla feels she's an assets to the clan to speak with Buchan Daughter. As Kyla like her mother has a huge heart. When she finds out how Buchan uses his own daughter all she wants to is to protect and save Davina!
The Buchan is furious Kyla won't help him and throws her and her guard Findlay out. Than Laird Buchan uses Kyla’s big heart to take advantage to abduct her and hold her for ransom. As he wants both Kyla as a trade for Grant land and Castle. Plus he wants Findlay to train his untrained men in battle.
He now is allowing another sadistic enemies, Simon de La Porte under his roof. This enemy is even more dangerous and twisted, where Kyla and Findlay may end up dead. Just as they both realize they are in love.
You just don't want to mess with Clan Grant or Ramsay and not to expect retaliation or worse. Yet will Findlay leave his beloved clan as his plan to show his mettle did not work out! Will he and Kyla even survive?
Another nail biter as Keira Montclair pens another phenomenal tale with so many twists and turns. I could not put this book down! This is the ninth fabulous page turner in The Highland Clan series . It is a riveting, action packed, heart melting adventure from start to finish. I just love the Grant/Ramsay Clan and all their allies. It's is definitely a book readers and lovers of Scottish historical romance don't want to miss!
I received a complimentary reader’s copy that I voluntarily agreed to do a fair review and blog. All thoughts, ideas and words are my own.
This is a good Highlander romance, and a good addition to the Highland Clan series. This one gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.
I liked Finlay, and thought he was good for Kyla, but I did have trouble believing he would have gone along with her plans -- since he knew how dangerous they were.
I liked Kyla, and I liked her determination to help Davina. But I thought it was very unlikely that her clan would have gone along with her ideas about visiting with and helping Davina -- they were all about protecting women and children, so they wouldn't have wanted Kyla to be in so much danger. They might have listened to her ideas, but then promptly found someone else to make them happen. I just didn't believe that her family would have ever agreed to put Kyla in so much danger.
I was glad that Kyla and Finlay found their HEA -- they were good together.
I also liked most of the other characters, especially the children, who were adorable. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Kyla by Keira Montclair The Highland Clan Series Book Nine Kyla Grant almost lost her father in the last battle. The great Alexander Grant was still recovering. When rumors of another attack came, Kyla decided she was going to do something about it. To stop it. She just needed to get help.
Finlay MacNicol was Jamie Grant's second. Torn between duty and staying home with his family...his dying mother told him he had to go. He found he was more than happy to watch over Kyla when Jamie asked him to guard her.
I love this series. Most every book has a majority of previous characters join in for the battle or crisis that is happening in the book. This story adds another unique character...much like Kenzie from Loki's story. The minute I finish a story, I'm ready for the next one. **Sexual content http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Having read a couple of the books in the series, this is my favourite. Although makes it more enjoyable to have all read all in the series, it can be read as a stand alone book. I find Keira’s writing full of love and feeling between many of the characters as it is a Scottish clan. There is also excitement and suspense to keep you reading. All of her books are very easy to read but the only problem I have found is the amount of characters in the book and when you are finished you want to go back and catch up on the past books as all the characters call out to you to find out their stories. Well worth the read.
Enjoyed this one also. Writing in a death was a necessary step to make the book more realistic. The capture of Kyle and Finley was a good idea. The abuse was appropriate, going behind the lairds back was stupid and bit predictable but handled well with the beatings etc. Even in fiction it sometimes is hard to read abuse but it made it believable. Enjoyed all the stupid things they got themselves into by thinking they knew better than the elders. Good book, definitely recommend this one.
Wow, I have read every book in this series so far and each one is captivating and exciting! I love how the author has expose the stories to include the second generation. That way we get to see the original characters as well as their children. This book held true to the format. Kyla's parents play a major role in the story. Such a good read, I stayed awake nearly the whole night to finish it!
Though I can't remember every book in this series, it seems like the main problem is a woman defies orders and endangers everyone, then all is forgiven because she escapes relatively unharmed. Surely, obedience is crucial to the safety of a clan (note "clan" is Gaelic for "children," not "clan...")
Oddly enough, my biggest takeaway is sadness because Alex Grant isn't holding up we!l... Bummer. 😕
I didn't quite like this book. Thought the Kyla was stupid to think she could bring peace to the clans. To put herself in harm's way and cause so much trouble not once but twice. And why would her sister in law go along with it and the guards. I did finish reading it because I like the author, but I don't believe back in those days this would've been aloud.
There are no words to describe this book but extremely exciting, explosive and excellent. From the beginning to the end the suspense and drama was awesome. The romance between the characters was great. The action on the battlefield or just the fighting all together was also excellent.
forgiveness, love and acceptance along with fierce protection.
Finally a battle to end the terrisom of the Bucher. Or would it end? Amazing descriptions of what it would be like to exist in a world where neighbors supported one another and families forgave and loved one another.
Ms Keira never fails to bring to life the stories of these families who love and courageously fight for their family and clan. Kyla's story will make laugh, cry, and cheer!
I love this whole series. I feel like I'm standing on the field in her stories. Lots of action romance and fun. Can't wait for the next book and don't want the series to end!
Another fabulous book by Keira! I love 💘 her style of writing. Her stories about the Grant, Ramsey clans are so good you won't want to put them down. Kyle and Finley 's story was very dramatic, but I love their tender hearts. I can't wait for the next book.
She is a Grant who is worried for what is going on with her clan. And he is a Grant warrior who is to protect her and who has fallen for her and they end up in enemy hands. Read on for more.
Very much enjoy the characters and how they are developing from previous book into current story. Still bit of conflict/mystery and romance but not overwhelming. Looking forward to next book in this series.
I love all of Keira's book, and Kyla and Finlays story was no different. So sweet to see Alex ride out to protect and save his eldest daughter, so endearing. I will always read from this author.
This seemed very obvious and somewhat boring to me. I didn't develop any connection to the characters. I've not read any of the prior books, so perhaps the high rating on this is due to connections made in prior stories...
If this had been a believable story for this time period it would have been good, but it had the female character doing what a son would not have done, much less a daughter. Just too far off the times for me.
Well written and developed! Characters with great chemistry and I always love the participation of the whole family! The presence of Alexander Grant is always welcomed! Waiting for the next one!
This another example of a perfect read from Keira Montclair. The book has everything you want; love, romance, excitement, humor, heartbreaking scenes, hope, suspense, family & more - don't miss it!
I love this entire series. Each and everyone of them as good as the previous books. Don't know how each character can have such strong story lines. I really dread the end of this series because I love these so much.
I have been reading this series from the beginning. I have to say, Finley and Kyle's story has to be one of the best. Action packed and such vengeance. I cheered at the end.
