The only thing missing is that one woman in his life … despite the fact that he is in a relationship with his child's mother, Nori. When he literally breaks into Lisara's home, he is faced with an attraction that he can't quite get over. And when he learns she needs saving, in the name of holy matrimony, he is all too willing to be that savior. Having endured then beat a life-threatening illness, Prime feels leaving Lisara on the table in favor of Nori wouldn't be taking advantage of his second chance at life. So while Lisara is in it for the assistance, Prime is out to convince his betrothed that there is no better man for her than him.
But what happens when the woman he's risking it all for turns out not to be thewoman he thought she was? And what will happen when Prime's trail of broken hearts leads to turbulence and tragedy for Lisara?
Find out in this tale of love, betrayal, secrets, and intrigue and what happens when a woman goes from a man of God to a man of God and the streets.
Whew babyyy! I ate this book up. I loved this take on marriage of convenience. The opening scene had my mouth on the floor, okay! 😱😱I just really liked how Lasira went so hard for her sons and herself. She wasn’t above working hard to make ends meet. Buuuuut when Prime/Chianti entered the chat ready to upgrade her life, I would have folded like a pretzel too! Prime was pressure! 😮💨🙌🏾I don’t know what it was about this book or his character but I loved him and definitely would have been eating out the palms of his hands 😂. This book did not lack drama, chaos, plot twists, or BDE. It was really good. I can’t wait for more. Khari needs to get it together in the next book, lol! Good work on this one!
I don’t have much to say cause I’m still trying to wrap my head around the mess! The book opening up with an unforgivable secret had the heroine Lisara a single mother of 6 boys!! I beg your pardon?! Her meeting Prime and their journey to help her sick son turns into just more than a marriage favor. Lots of truths are unveiled and feelings left on the table from all angles! One thing about Prime though he didn’t play about Lisara at all! That includes her babies too! Tangie, Nori, Gideon, Block, Bashar’s lil girlfriend, Devante, and Kahri (majority of this book) got on my nerves and what they deserved! Looking forward to the next book!
This reread had me cussing just like the first time I read it. That KARI was raising my blood pressure the whole book. I'm nervous to even read his book next. He about to give me heart palpitations. But Shvonne can write her tail off
Can we talk about DRAMA!! This book opened up on the bs and it just did not let up. There was drama around every damn corner and they wore me out.
Lisara had been married to Devonte, a fraud, for 17 years and her entire world is blown up once his secret was revealed. They were young and dumb and found themselves in a situation where their religious families felt it was best they marry. So, no they didn't share a great love, but the loyalty and respect was supposed to trump all of that until it didn't. Lisara then finds herself barely getting by with 6 boys to take care of. Lisara is the epitome of a mother doing WHATEVER she has to do to make a way for her children. Her struggles actually lead her to ruthless mean azz Prime.
Prime was THEE mf man, he was that dude legally and illegally. He had an empire with multiple streams of income. He crosses paths with Lisara, as she lives in one of his properties. Initially, he is on some business ish with her but he can't deny that he is drawn to her and feels the need to help this young mother with the situation her ex has left her in. Prime also found himself in a love less relationship and he swore he wanted to work it out, but he clearly had a foot out the door. I honestly didn't see anything he saw in Nori. She was the laziest, dizziest broad that seemed so emotionless. Loyalty be damned, he didn't owe her anything and I was tired of her on the page. Needless to say despite that mess, Lisara and Prime found themselves in a situationship and it felt like it was ALWAYS something or someone trying to come between them. I appreciated the dating we got to experience, the interactions Prime had with her sons, and the firework connection they shared. However, I felt there was just too much extra outside of them that it really distracted from their story.
Khari, Lisara's oldest son, was basically another main character in this book. He was in so much shii and I was so tired of his young dumb azz. I felt like his story was overpowering and Prime and Lisara already had enough drama. He was 18 and swore he was a grown man, but kept making dumb decision after dumb decision. His situation with Couture got me like leave him alone....because it's just too messy. He had some growth towards the end, but honestly I was still ova him. I can imagine only the headache that will occur in his own book.
This book was well written and the author had to pull a lot of story lines together and she did a solid job. It was too long for me and I would have just loved more focus on the main couple.
4.5 ⭐️ Let’s get a round of applause 👏🏾 , a standing O V A T I O N for none other than CHIANTI “PRIME” ST. THOMAS!!!!!!! I mean, how could you not fall in love & L U S T with the man! He was so SWAGGGEDDD TF out it was ridiculous! I can see why them hoes was going crazy! They wasn’t on dope or dog food, just Prime 😂🤣!
Whatever, either way, Lisara Compton had it rough from the beginning! Although she struggled, she remained strong throughout. Her willingness to make sure her sons were taken care of no matter what was admirable! I loved Prime & Lis’s love story from the beginning! It was like a good fairytale! The way Prime treated & loved her gave me all the FEELZZSSSS! Lisara’s hands should have been licensed the way she was whipping tale in here, it was like apart of her job 😂🤣.
Nori & Tangie deserved absolutely E V E R Y S I N G L E T H I N G they got! They clowned themselves in the end! Like if you know you’re messing with someone, who gives no f**ks, & has already warned you several times about putting you in a coffin ⚰️, you gonna keep playing with them 🤔!? Like huh !!!!!!?? Khari made it up a little bit in the end when he came through !!!!! He still got on my very last nerve & the ending didn’t put him all the way on my good side!
As well, let me say all of these reviews and nobody said nothing about this dad aka “Block.” I was devastated when I read that, although I knew the entire time! Next up for clown is Devante, like what type of Circus did he want to be apart of!?
Nonetheless, the ending was beautiful & I was happy for Prime & Lis. They are definitely in my top favorite couples 🥰😍! Very good book!!!!
(I have no idea what to rate this quite honestly- I wanna give it 3 stars for the writing style because that was good, but a 2 star for the topics and the story itself.)
This was the most toxic ghetto book I think I've actually EVER read. (And I was on Wattpad back in the day LOOL) But...I just couldn't...look away??? LMAOOOOOO. Like take a TV show off Tubi and this is legit the book format. Joseline Hernandez could never honestly. I genuinely have no words for what I just read.
The story itself....there was a lot of cheating, weirdo behavior, and quite honestly nothing romantic in this book LMAO. A lot 'females this' 'females that'. The only saving thing was that the FMC was dark skin and as soon as I saw that I took a deep breath and continued reading LMAOOO.
HOWEVER The biggest thing for me though is....there was a TAD bit too much homophobia in this book for me. Like at first I was like okay you know she catches her husband with a man IN CHURCH and she IS a preachers wife so I can see how it was a jumpscare at first. Fine. However, every time her sons would say something crazy or her parents or whomst ever, no one was ever corrected or told to shut tf up?? I REALLY aint like that.
My second thing is......EVERYONE IN THIS BOOK NEEDS THERAPY. T-H-E-R-A-P-Y. Good gracious. Free my people truly.
This book also could have been so much shorter. Besides her having 6 kids and struggling, Khari being a weirdo and dummy, and her husband cheating.....I have no idea what the rest of this book was about. This was legit reality TV as a book. Literally Love and HipHop Atlanta with about x10 the drama. LMAOOOOOO yall.
Overall...I'd read another book by this author. I was looking for a drama filled book and got it so I'd say mission accomplished sksksksk.
This was my first book by Shvonne and it will not be the last.
I’m so ready for Kharis book because he stressed me out just like Prime (Chianti) did. The decisions they both made definitely had me looking at them sideways. This book had so many twists and turns I had to stay up and finish the book 😂. Lisara OMG I loved her character and I felt so bad for her, but I am glad she stood her ground fought for her independence, uppercut a couple chicks 🤣🤣🤣. I love a book that will have you laughing, crying and stressing the whole time and this book did just that. Nori and Tangie got exactly what they deserved, like how can think you can touch anything that belongs to Chianti St. Thomas and get away with it. The way Prime and Lisara loved on each others kids was everything 😍. I could continue to say more but I will leave it up to the readers to download and see how great this book is!
4.5 ⭐️- I love a book with a lot going on and this did not disappoint. From the first couple pages, it was on. Lisara had 6 mouths to feed all on her own - she did what she had to do and I wasn’t mad at her one bit. Prime came along and was everything she and her boys needed. There was some big drama along the way but they were so good together. Tangie and Nori really were terrible people. There were also some times that I wanted to jump in the book and grab Khari by his neck but he got it together eventually…or did he? Can’t wait for his book- I already know he’s about to give us a headache!
You neverrrrrrrrrr disappoint! This book was sooooo freaking good and I can’t wait til the next! Idc which brother it is HAND IT HERE‼️You did it as always fav! Take a bow 🥰
When it comes to Latrice Shvonne I know it’s mess…. and boy was this messy asf. Entertaining to see how it all played out but messy. I did like Prime energy can’t stand that lil 🌚 Khari.
dnf. don’t waste your time reading this. pretty sure the high rating come from loyal fans or family members cause this was horrible. everyone in this book is immature and stupid. lisara is a barely there mother who allows her kids to act how ever they want. she lacks any form of critical thinking and will lose her morals for a cheating loser. her own son is a murderer and she doesn’t care. prime is so stupid. he cheats on his girlfriend with multiple women , gets married to lisara while with his girlfriend, but swears he’s not a cheater. this author has a really messed up sense of life and respect. truly don’t understand how reading about all of this stupidity and immaturity is enjoyable.
This book was good! The drama was everything and the time everything happened was perfect I’m glad that Lisara and Prime took there time with each other. Khari is ridiculous and I’m not gonna lie I don’t like him and I wasn’t gonna read the next book but I wanna see his development and if he was gonna stay true to Couture.
I forgot I needed to review this book. This was my first read by this author but will not be my last. I really enjoyed it. This book was a whirlwind and I can't wait for the next book. I spent most of the book wanting several characters unalived lmao. One being Khari... now I am ready for his book. lol. FYI, Prime is my man my man my man.
Wheew. Everyone had me on edge or cussing ppl out. Khari’s ass!! My goodness. Smh I was on the fence with Prime at first. He knew better than to stay that long with Nori. Let that mess go. Lesara had nine lives. She just adapted in so many different situations. Idk how she did it. This book was good and juicy and alot of spice. This family got me asking whats next 🤣
I enjoy a story that takes a little time to tell, this one was extra detailed and honestly could have taken 75 less pages for me. Overall, the story was pretty good. I can't think of too many issues.
It took me a while to start this series because I had a feeling it would be one of those that I wished I could read for the first time all over again. So I wanted to create my own build up, take my time and savor this read like a fine wine. And I must say this book lived up to the hype and was EVERYTHING I expected! There were a couple of plot twists that were predictable, but it took nothing away from the overall storyline. Shvonne delivered the drama, the comedy and the spice.
Prime….whew chile! That’s a good man Savannah! I love it when a man comes in and not only loves you, but loves your children too.
This was an immersive reading experience, but I almost abandoned the audio portion. I struggled with the female narrator, but Tony Isabella saved the day. He is easily becoming one of my favorites.
Prime & Lisara didn’t meet under best circumstances but Prime was smitten. This book had the right amount of drama to keep you entertained. I loved seeing Prime becoming the father figure Lisara sons needed. I was smitten with seeing them fall for one another. I’m glad all the snakes got theres. I can’t want to read Kharis book, he better have done right by Couture
This book had it all. Action, drama, cheating husbands and down low situations. We can’t forget a mother’s struggle, that one son, trifling mothers and snake a$$ hoes. What I’m really trying to say is this was a good a$$ book.
This is another book that sucks you in from the very beginning, like the first 3 pages. Lisara was a “church girl” with very strict and religious parents. As long as she was making good grades and doing everything they said, all was fine. Lisara and best friend Devante, a “church boy” decided to experiment. Who better to experiment with than your best friend. Well 2 pumps and 30 seconds later surprise… it’s an oops baby. Well both sets of religious parents weren’t having any sinners and whoremongers on their watch. 17 years of marriage later, you walk in on your (pastor)husband in one the most compromising positions ever. You’re hurt and confused but unwilling to stay. Divorce it is… but with six boys, no work experience, not finishing college and now a no good missing in action baby daddy, mama has to do what she’s gotta do.
Prime is the man to see around town. He runs the streets of Crenshaw and is the heir to a historically black financial institution. Prime who was diagnosed with cancer at very young age, is a surviver and now has a different outlook on life. He no longer loves the woman who held him down through it all and with good reason. Prime gives his girlfriend and baby mama chance after chance to get it right and to show that she loves him and can connect and care for their son. Well Nori is trifling, selfish and doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body.
When Lisara is late on the rent one too many times the manager sends in the big guns for collection. Insert owner and gangsta Prime, knocking down doors one door at a time. When he sees Lisara, he immediately recognizes a damsel in distress as well as wifey potential and wants to be her knight in shinning armor. This whirlwind of a story takes off from there. This book is like an amusement park. It has everything you need for an adventure.
I didn't expect to love this story as much as I did so I'm happy I gave it a chance. The multiple POV's definitely kept things interesting and surprising while the time jumps kind of ruined some reactions I wanted to see but other than that I loved it.
Yeah there were some crazy or annoying characters but what's a good story without them. All together AMAZING story and definitely a favorite/constant re-read for me: )
Whew this book took me on a whirlwind! It was very entertaining. There were parts I loved and other parts I loved to hate. The character development was top tier because I either loved or despised certain characters and I think that was intentional. I don't believe I'll read Khari's story just because he was the main character I loves to hate, but I guess he'll turn his life around but at this point, I'm over him. Very well written, drama filled story.
Babyyy, this book kicked off with drama and never let up. It was pure chaos from start to finish, and I was here for it! I was hooked the whole way through. Now, could it have been about 100 pages shorter? Probably. But it was still a great read.
All I can say is: Lisara? Not one to mess with Khari? Absolutely needed his a** whooped Nori and Tangie? Got exactly what was coming to them And Prime? Whew, I loved every moment between him and Lisara
This book kept popping up and I kept scrolling past it, but being on those fb reading groups had me giving this a try. I should’ve just kept my first mind and left it where it was, and I’m gone stop listening to the ppl in those groups because I’m 4-1 at this point. I’ve read 5 books that were highly recommended and only ONE of them was truly good. I’m starting to think they only give high reviews because the authors are on the platform as well.
For this book I didn’t get far, just to the part when it out of the blue talked about her sleeping with a sugar daddy. Like girl Prime gave you a chance to keep the rent money one time=you turned him down, he asked for a private dance but just wanted to talk and was going to pay= you turned him down and ran off like one of the Brady Bunch kids. Just to turn around and sleep with a man for money. To then turn around and say “I don’t want to do all of what them young girls be doing to make that money” um your doing exactly what their doing and more. Just because it’s not a man from the club means nothing. YOUR STILL SLEEPING WITH A MAN FOR MONEY. In fact I’m not sure why the author had the character dancing in the club anyway, she claims she doesn’t do ANYTHING she’s supposed to do like dance anyway. 🙄🙄 When you have a sick child the way the author made it seem like hers is, u do what u have to do in full, not half ass and then complain about not having it. If that’s the case why not just have the character build her clientele for hair? Why is she not offered insurance from the hotel? She kept saying she makes good money at both jobs so why are you struggling so much? The book was a reading contradiction all around.
Then Prime it’s not the old days nobody is staying in relationships because of some sort of loyalty that ain’t even shown. Did she pay for all his medical bills? Did she work her behind off to pay bills that couldn’t be paid? Like I’m not understanding what exactly the loyalty was, because she stayed with him a rich man while he was sick? Like the author made no sense in this book for majority of what I read. All Prime talked about was having money like that’s it. Nothing else to his character, and of course it wouldn’t be a black man if he didn’t sell drugs. 🙄🙄🙄 ain’t yall tired of this trope? Dang is our black men only valuable if they’re big time drug dealers/kingpins?
These authors should be tired of writing the same book with different characters at this point. The poor black girl that soooo pretty and body is to die for, meets the rich black big time drug dealer man and without any knowledge of the person and only one eye contact and a smile. Oop let me not forget they smell good and then BOOM 5 secs later they’re so in love and just can’t figure out what it is about that person. Ain’t yall tired of writing this trope too? Awe and let’s not forget the author want us to think the woman is this strong black woman on her shhhh but we never see it because really the woman is super weak and falls all over self because the man is so fine and smell good with money lol. 😂
There is no originality anymore at all. These authors have turned into the same with a few sprinkled in that u have to read 100 bad books to get to.
Sorry for the rant but this was just another save a 304 but she different from all the other 304s book.
This author NEVER disappoints!! I loved this story with all its twists and turns. I loved Chi from the beginning, he was bae. Her was absolutely doing too much but he got it together for the right one. Can’t wait to read more about this family. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Devante was a trash ass person. How do you neglect all 6 of your kids especially one that has a serious medical problem. Khari stressed me out up until the end of the book. He clearly needed guidance but all of his actions had major consequences. I really wanted him to learn an actual lesson. Nori and Tangie were delusional and couldn't leave well enough alone. I loved Lisara and Prime together.
Seriously? I tapped out at 3%. Page 18. The opening was stellar, but then it went left. How do you go from affluence to poverty within a year with an affluent husband, home, car, etc? Affluent parents. Affluent in-laws. They had savings and wealth, but she is in the hood with six kids? I understand that the author wanted to move her to the hood, but she could have found a better and more plausible way. Read it for yourself.
