TG Reid grew up in his native Scotland and the DCI Bone series is set in and around his hometown, among the brooding hills and glens of Scotland’s Campsie Fells. After working as a musician and English lecturer, TG turned to full-time writing and has never looked back. He now lives in Bath with his wife, daughter and hyper-neurotic cat.
TG Reid’s books will appeal to readers who enjoy dark, atmospheric, edge-of-you-seat mysteries with added touches of Scottish humour.

A house burnt down, a dead doctor, and the wife, missing also a doctor. Then another arson attack. Why and by whom. DCI Duncan Bone and his team investigate. An enjoyable modern mystery. Another good addition to this entertaining series.
Another well written, fast paced addition to the DCI Bone series, full of good twists and turns and great characters. With that ending I’ll def be looking forward to the next one!
Book 7 in the DCI Bone Scottish Crime Thrillers Series set in Scotland’s Campsie Fells, and another cracking read. This time a rather grizzly crime when a hospital consultant is found in the burnt out remains of his property and his GP wife is missing. There is a message on a wall and it’s clear that this is murder. The book opens with the crime taking place and this is dark, very dark so the reader knows what happened but not who the killer is or why. It would read as a standalone but I would definitely recommend reading the whole series as there are some fabulous back stories.
Briefly, alongside the crime there is so much going on amongst the police team. DS Mark Mullens father has dementia but there are concerns over his health and it’s affected Mark badly. The fire has rekindled (no pun intended) Bone’s PTSD and he keeps seeing a red haired boy and having terrible nightmares and there’s a wedding in the offing. But back at the crime there are a number of potential suspects and the team are struggling to find the killer.
Full disclosure I did guess who the killer was when they appeared but that really didn’t matter as firstly, you can never be one hundred percent certain and secondly, the crime is only part of this series. I love all the backstories and all the other characters and whilst this is a dark crime and the method used is pretty gruesome this is counteracted by all the humour, usually involving Mark and/or his father or Junior, I’ll say no more. A great police procedural with an excellent plot and an intriguing ending. Loved it.
A popular hospital consultant is found dead in a horrific arson attack on his home, his GP wife and troubled student son missing. The reader is privy to the grisly details of the murder. A message scrawled at the scene hints at the reason for the death and an email to the press gives DCI Duncan Bone and his team of DI Rhona Walker, DS Sheila Baxter, DS Mark Mullens and DC Will Harper from the Rural Crime Unit in Kilwinnoch a further clue but it’s only when another person is attacked that they have a firm lead. With some very promising suspects, will they finally be able to make sense of the evidence and unearth the dark and disturbing truth? I have adored this series since book 1 made its first appearance and the series has held me in its clutches ever since. Bone keeps seeing a young redhaired boy going up in flames and this time it’s not the Peek-a boo killer who previously haunted his dreams. He’s not the only one suffering from PTSD as nemesis McKinnon shows a different side to himself. George, Mullens’ dad and a constant star of this series, is still causing hilarious mayhem at his care home and the village legend Junior from up at the loch puts in another sterling performance. This excellent police procedural features a clever twisty plot with plenty of suspense yet still lots of warmth and humour within the team and a gripping ending that is just guaranteed to leave the reader yearning for book 8, A Devil’s Share.

Burn It All Down is Book #7 in TG Reid’s DCI Bone Scottish Crime Thriller series. When fire crews are called to the blaze at the home of a Kilwinnoch GP, they make a grisly discovery: the charred remains of the doctor. His wife is missing. Is it a tragic accident, or a horrific calculated murder and abduction. This title is particularly grisly. Once again, there are many ‘persons of interest’’, each one with reason(s) to be angry and violent. While the plot kept me on the edge of my seat, I looked forward to the camaraderie of the Team. They are respectful and understanding of personal situations. There is laughter and humor. DCI Bone’s PTSD issues and his counseling sessions take a bit of a twist and is perhaps the basis of the next title, Book #8 A Devil’s Share. [I will have to read more slowly as Book #9 Dirt Road Dead isn’t coming until June 2026. I already preordered my copy.} TG Reid is an outstanding author and the Scottish landscape is certainly a contender for ‘major character’. Highly Recommended. *****
Well this opens with one of the more gruesome Murders. As the title and cover suggest, fire features heavily in this. I think its used very cleverly and not too gruesome throughout! As always, the team have quite a challenge on their hands to not only discover who is doing it, but why. This is quite deep into the series now, and it feels like catching up with friends. There are lots of personal issues interspersed throughout, Bones PTSD and Mullins dad. The antics of whom have made me cry laughing all too often. I love how amongst the horror of the murder Tom also manages to tackle growing up privileged and the impact in children, drug abuse, dedication, alcohol abuse and misogynistic behaviour and work environments. It's never heavy. These books are always a joy to read. The epilogue was both funny, heartwarming and intriguing. I hope there are many more books to come from one of my favourite teams.
Burn It All Down by TG Reid is book 7 in the DCI Duncan Bone series. Dr Andrew Fraser’s middle of the night wandering ends in a very horrific and brutal way and his wife cannot be found. There is always humour in this series and Duncan’s attempts to light a fire certainly set the scene. So very funny. The team is back and it is so easy to get invested in them and the story as it progresses. Mark Mullens’ Dad is causing chaos at the Sunnyside Care Home – so much humour just from them alone. There are some fabulous minor characters that pop up through the book and add so much to the story and quite often set me off laughing. Duncan is suffering though, and an old case and an apparition are playing havoc with his mind. This book, and the rest of the series, is just fabulous, This series is very addictive. The book ended on a high after all the violence and I’m keen to read the next.

Another riveting read for DCI Bone and his crew as try to uncover the killer. Each book is better than the last and this was a very enjoyable read. The banter was funny with Mullens at the centre of it but the police procedure was gripping as usual. The background for this brought Bone's PTSD to the fore once again as he battles the hallucinations and nightmares as he struggles with his home life too. The killer was eventually found but the ending was cryptic, leading onto something else perhaps...
It feels like forever since the last book but it was definitely worth the wait. An absolute horrific crime at the start of the book guaranteed to have me hooked and I tore through the rest as quickly as possible.
The banter is great as usual between the team, and Mullens is at the centre of a lot of it. As well as the horrific murder and another attack later, there are other personal issues going on, some worrying and some of a more happy nature. The ending in particular is very intriguing.
This is another story that guarantees you won't want to put it down and the description in the blurb of it being an edge of your seat mystery certainly lives up to the billing.
DCI Duncan Bone and his team are left with the most horrific case to solve. Where do they start and where will they find the answers?
On top of the case, the team also have their own lives with things going on. Bone is worried that the PTSD he suffers with, is getting worse again. Mark Mullens’ dad is causing mayhem in the nursing home again, but there is more to it than usual this time.
Excellent writing from the author on this, the latest instalment in the Bone series.
This one did turn my stomach a little and made me sit and wonder where on earth author’s get their ideas from!
There is some great humour in amongst the darkness of the story.
I’m hoping that there will be more from DCI Bone and his team in the near future.
I really don't know where this author gets his plot ideas from, but yet again this book is another winner. Mullens and his dad are the stars of this story whilst we are given an insight into a person with a highly responsible job who is also accountable for an aging parent with dementia. TG Reid is also developing the PTSD which DCI Bone is suffering from as it is metamorphosing into someone/thing else. This is one of the best series I have recently read and highly recommend both this book and the rest.
We had to wait a little bit longer for book 7 in the DCI Bone series, set in the Campsie hills, but this is well worth the wait! As usual, it moves along at a fast pace and is full of banter within the team. I love the sense of atmosphere created, with the clever plotting and the characterisation is excellent, especially Mullens. Whilst Bone is investigating a serial killer, his PTSD kicks in as he battles his own demons. Another easy 5* from one of the top writers in the genre.
Another cracking DCI Bone thriller. Teamwork triumphs against a particularly nasty criminal who burns buildings irrespective of who is inside. Plenty of witty repartee to ease the unpleasantness from time to time. A lovely ending.

Book #7 is absolutely amazing! I don’t know how TG Reid comes up with these stories but he is brilliant. DCI Bone and his team have another unconventional murder to solve. I read most of the night to see how they solved it. It will keep you gripped from start to finish. And that epilogue was wonderful! I look forward to the next book. Beth P.
Thoroughly enjoyable Bone thriller with dashes of humour, loads of darkness and a cliffhanger at the end to make me hope Book 8 won't be too far away.
I love the way Reid sets us up with a variety of suspects and backs that up with well woven narrative strands. Really keeps you on your toes. I've come to savour my time with this cast of characters and look forward to more very soon
This is a very good series and I love to catch up with the police team in Scotland. This book started a little slow but the second half picked up the pace and complexity. There were lots of suspects and potential motives. There was also a ticking clock with a possible kidnapping and political and media pressure to complicate matters. The ongoing theme of PTSD in first responders is interesting too. A good read.
The murderer revealed themselves very early on, so when it was in fact who i guess it to be, it was no surprise.
Please Mr Reid, do not kill off George yet, Mullens will crumble and frankly, so will I. His character annoyed me in the beginning but I've grown to love that grumpy old sod.
I wish I could have been a wedding guest at Harper's wedding.
An intriguing read with many twists and turns. Mullen's had me in stitches throughout. Bones newest tormentor is very ominous, creepy even. One of my characters is the land in every book, the way it is portrayed makes me feel that I'm right there. Well done Tom! Best of health with your back. 🙏🏼
DCI Duncan Bone is suffering from PDS but seems to have it in control. When a killer is on the loose starting fires in the homes of medical people Bone must find him quickly. The head fire department screams at Bone to find the killer. The department work together to tract down clues and finally have a clue to find the killer.
A local doctor dies in an arson attack on his home and his wife is missing - possibly kidnapped. Gradually Bone ends up with three plausible culprits. This story has so many possible endings but Tom Reid guides us through it. It's an exciting story with a great ending.
Wow I think this is T G Reid's best one yet. Loved it, couldn't put it down was half way through the first night and read till 5am then finished it last night, kept me guessing till the end. Fabulous read highly recommend.
The book is fast moving with well defined characters. I was thoroughly entertained. There was no reason to use the f word repeatedly. It added nothing.
Fire, red hot fire, blazing read, Bones and Team up to their necks in a new twisted, hot burning thriller, murder and gore. Keeps you reading to the end. A book full of mystery, thrills and laughter in places.
Another enjoyable read in the Bone Series - I have enjoyed reading these as they come out, found the protagonist a little obvious which did detract a little but another crime series I am enjoying, and looking forward to the next in the series to come out.
Interesting to see Bone continuing to both struggle with his PTSD and do his best as leader of the team. A great read and already looking forward to his next big challenge. Julian Tremayne, Pocklington, East Yorkshire
Another good book in this series with a plot that keeps you engaged. The ending of the book a real surprise, didn't see that coming. I loved the epilog at the end that tied some personal things together.
A gruesome murder begins this book and Bone and his team have their work cut out for them solving it. The book is good and the narrator does a great job. It COULD be a standalone but I recommend reading them in order for the progression. Bone’s PTSD is a thread through the series.
