Brilliantly steampunk short novel that very much recalls its FRANKENSTEIN inspiration. In some ways (especially near the beginning) it also evokes DRACULA. I remained rapt as I listened to the audiobook edition narrated by David Hunsdale, who did a wonderful job of telling the story.

Let me start by saying that I pretty much only read horror. The horror that I prefer is often times extremely dark and disturbing. This one was VERY tame compared to my usual. I went into it with an open mind and I'm so glad I was sent this book!

Sometimes I have a hard time listening to audio books. Especially if they are bad or the narrator is not clear spoken or has a heavy accent. I was instantly hooked from the get go on this one and was honestly a little sad when it was over.

The book has "spooky vibes" but isn't scary in my opinion. The story follows a Doctor who is sent to care for an old man that the town thinks is a monster and is responsible for multiple recent deaths in town. It has serious Frankenstein vibes. Very steampunk and vintage feel throughout.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I absolutely would. Easily one of the best audio books I've ever listened to. The narrator was crystal clear and the story was phenomenal. If you like Frankenstein, steampunk, gothic, stories I would highly recommend checking this one out!

Another fantastic story from Hubert Mullins. Very much a steampunk story influenced by both Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, this horror novel will keep you guessing until the very end. Love Mullin's new use of the classics as well as his nod to history and horror in almost all of his books. An author to keep firmly on your radar for everything his twisted little mind comes up with!

But your mind works in mysterious ways!!!!
