Truth or Dare #4

The Pink Lantern: Truth or Dare Series, Book 4

Rate this book
If I were to write a memoir, the title would Joan and The Multiple Times She Absolutely Did Not Need Ezra Harrison, But That Jerk Was There Anyway.

There was . . .

1) The time he saved my life (by forcing me in a compromising position).

2) The time he taught me how to wear a certain appendage (okay, so I probably should've just Googled it).

3) The time he helped me woo the woman of my dreams (after he slept with her first).

I do not need Ezra Harrison and his devil-may-care smile and his messy hair and his loud motorcycle and his huge, massive chip on his shoulder. I don't need him, but . . . I want him. I want them both.

Contains mature themes.

They Dared to Be Bold -
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the story when I read the author’s note at the beginning, but I am happy I made the decision to read the book. Reading this book was a learning curve for me, as I had never read any stories about genderqueer and nonconforming. The author told the story of three amazing people trying to find themselves in a complicated world, which actually brings them together where they explore their sexuality and discover an unexpected connection that bonds them together forever. I was truly intrigued with the story with each page turn and enjoyed reading it. Take a chance to read this book and you will enjoy it, whilst you learn something new.

I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Joan and The Multiple Times She Absolutely Did Not Need Ezra Harrison,
But That Jerk Was There Anyway.

I can't get enough Adora crooks. Ts this a sad book in any way shape or form? no. Did it still make me cry? yes.
Personally, that is my measurement of a great book, if it made me cry. This did so for a couple of reasons. Being autistic I have rarely felt like I have fit in anywhere, so seeing characters that feel that way, albeit for different reasons, find their place kinda hit home. I love seeing characters that don't fit the mould just because that's how they are, and being loved for it and having family and friends and a home. Anyway yeah, someone find me some partners who will love me despite the total lack of social intelligence.

C/Ws: mentions of homophobia, intolerant parents, is sexuality questioning a trigger?, medical complications, organ donation, chronic illness, medical complications, parental expectations
Spice: FFM, light S&M, group scenes, pegging, dirty talk, femdom, only one bed,
Read Again: try and stop me
Recommend: for someone who wants something light but still deep, does that make sense?

This story was excellent. The characters are beautifully fleshed out, and you are immediately invested in them. Their growth and the development of the relationships is well-written, organic, and deeply satisfying. The sex scenes are HOT. This is my favorite story of the series, but it can be read as a standalone.

3.25 ⭐️ This was a good book but it just felt rushed, I felt like I didn’t know the characters enough. The plot line was good but I just don’t see Joan as a ‘daddy’ to Ezra.

A college student falls for her roommate and the girl they both like in this FMNB romcom.

This was… too fast paced for me. I didn’t feel like I really connected with the characters or was interested in the plot until all three of them got together. Maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for an eager puppy of a boy who can take a strap.

Medium burn with pegging, strap, praise and degradation, daddy honorifics.

Unique People in A Unique Relationship

Joan is trying find herself at school in England - which she does, along with her “gulp” : the one who rescues her - Ezra, and the one who inspires her first - Nell. This book had all the feels and a unique vibe. I loved that these three got to discover something about themselves that allowed them to blossom into butterflies. I feel like I didn’t get to know Nell as well as Ezra and Joan, and I’d love to see how their relationship continued to play out, but I’m still completely satisfied with this read. I’ve been looking forward to Joan’s story for a while, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This book didn't do it for me. The other books in this series have a better build up. The way the characters fall for eachother is way to rushed.
Also some of the storylines are dragged out.

It felt weird when Joan goes from an insecure/shy Virgin to a dominant partner in like 2 seconds.

It feels like I hardly got to know or could connect with the characters in this book. Too bad though.

I've loved all of the books in the Truth or Dare Series but this one just made my heart sing.
I loved each character individually so much, and also ate up the chemistry between the three of them. Joan was a sweetheart and I loved watching her grow, and unlearn the person she thought she needed to be. Ezra was hilarious and I loved his protective side, and how he takes Joan under his wing. Nell was such a gentle soul, but they were also dominant in the best ways. They were insanely attractive.
I loved how special their relationships were, both when they're friends and when they're lovers. There's so much open and honest communication, and so much acceptance between the three.
I loved reading about relationship dynamics and gender identities that are less represented in romance (as usual, I own that I need to do more to seek these stories out). It's also a pleasure to read these stories in low angst books. There is inclusion of homophobia and lack of acceptance, but the main focus of this story is just the most wholesome love story.
This book was so well written, and struck a lovely balance between being funny, spicy, and impactful.
100% recommend Adora Crooks for all your polyamoury joyful needs.

Here I am again for the Truth or Dare series and its latest instalment: The Pink Lantern.

Here we follow the story of Joan, daughter of Kenzi, Donovan and Jason and sister of Otto, the characters we followed in the first books of the series. The 18-year-old has decided to pursue her studies in England, where she will discover her found family.

I think I’ve read books with the same themes as The Pink Lantern, but I don’t think any of them did it in the way that Adora Crooks does in this book—which doesn’t take anything away from the quality of the other books; being different doesn’t mean being less good.

Once again, I really enjoyed this book in the series, although I have to admit that I found it a little harder to get used to the pacing. Having read all the books in the series back-to-back, I was used to the different POVs of the characters, but in The Pink Lantern the story is told from Joan’s POV—three years have passed between the publication of the last two books, and it seems normal to me that an author’s style might change in that time.

I’m a little sad to be leaving this family, but I’m sure I’ll be reading more books by Adora Crooks.

This is the first book written by Adora Crooks that I have read. This book is slightly different from what I usually read but I enjoyed it.

I liked the characters and how they were written out though I didn’t feel like I knew them as well as I possibly could have. The relationship growth was well-written and beautiful. Whilst I found it written well there were points where it felt rushed.

I enjoyed reading about their journeys to finding themselves. I liked the inclusion of different things like chronic illness in the book.

I will be checking out more of Arden Crooks's books at some point. I would definitely recommend reading this book if you get the chance but I'd suggest checking out the trigger warnings beforehand.

My heart be still! What an absolutely lovely story. I'm not familiar with FFM stories so this was a great way to be introduced to one. Nothing about it was what I expected. I love when that happens!! I loved the growth of the characters. I loved the effect they had on each other's growth. I loved the way they all came together. I never enjoyed reading of the happiness of fictional characters like this before. I was just so happy they were happy!

I would absolutely love to see an epilogue to tie up just a few loose ends. Jobs, lives, telling Ezra's dad what a jerk he was... Seriously, I need to read that his dad groveled or was totally cut off. Big jerk. Team Unicorn all the way!

I read an ARC of this story. My opinions are my own. Always.

Joan has grown up knowing that some day she would be giving her brother a kidney. She is in the UK going to school and finding herself. Along the way Ezra finds her and they become friends. He needs a roommate and she needs a place to live. Win, win. Joan decides to visit the Pink Lantern and there she finds her people and per person. Nell is ever changing and evolving.
You have to read the book to find out how these three come together. This book is fun, some angst, sad tears and happy tears. But the main thing is it’s a book about three people who find themselves and stay true to themselves. Enjoy.

This was a great story! There was some humor, a bit of angst, a lot of steam, and full of heart! This was a story about three individuals finding their true selves and finding the right people to help them and love them. Joan, Ezra, and Nell each have their own challenges, but there’s something undefinable that connects them. I loved seeing Joan grow, from having her first kiss to her taking the reins was quite a journey. I loved Ezra from the very beginning, but I was hoping to learn a bit more about Ezra’s evolution. That’s where multiple POVs come in handy.

Whoaaaa 🌶️🌶️🌶️ This was a fun and different read! I’ve never read a story featuring genderqueer characters, poly relationships, and similar themes. Every character had thoughtful development and enough detail to make them all easy to like.

At first, I was a little unsure about J’s main identity being tied to her role as her brother’s inevitable kidney donor, but the storyline was written well and didn’t overshadow the rest of the book.

I also hadn’t read spice with sub/dom dynamics before, so that was definitely an interesting experience! I’m not not a fan—it’s just different. 😂

While the storyline was different from what I normally read, the plot was enticing. The story is a quick read (aka I read it in 24 hours), but was definitely worth the read. The character dynamic and growth was fun to read. The relationship between the main characters was fun to watch change during each part of the story.
Would definitely recommend to those who are interested in polyamporous storylines.

I'm so sad to see that this series is over. It's been fun to read about all these characters and their poly relationships. I'm glad we got to see Joan and her relationships. I also love Ezra so much. I could have a whole book in his POV and I would be so happy. Add together Nell and you get an amazing poly relationship.

And boy those spicy scenes aren't often but when they happen...wow.

I'll miss these characters but I'm happy with the way the series ended.

Why?

The book is great I binged the whole series all at once yesterday but let me tell you the only reason this book isn’t 4 stars is because of the POV. For every other book in the series it was first person with multiple POV but this book if first person single POV. WTF I was really loving the multiple POV in all of the other books and then you just switch up why? Why would you do that? Anyway this is a great light book and you should read it.

This was a pager turner, I was up all night and couldn't finish work quick enough to dive right back in. Highly recommend, 10/10 would read again.

This was a nice wrap up to the Truth or Dare series but I also felt like these characters had so much more story to explore. I truly enjoyed the representation the LGBTQ+ showed through the characters. Their experiences and their development into their queerness was truly inspiring and relatable. It was this aspect that made me enjoy the story.

Why choose MFF, queer polyamory, gender euphoria! What more could you ask for? I loved seeing Joan branch off from her amazingly tight knit family we’ve gotten to know over the first three books and branch out into her own. Full of self realization & exploration and surrounded by people who support her fully exactly as she is. Ezra and Nell round out their little group perfectly.

Joan’s story

I have enjoyed the whole series - the parents, the brother and now the younger sister. It has stretched the limits and exposed me to new things. I’m glad I was along for the ride.

This was so freaking cute. The character development was great. The inclusion of gender identity journeys and acceptance gave me butterflies. I loved it.
