In our world, we are often faced with the failure of things, situations, relationships, or life itself and we need to restore or rebuild from where we are. As the author points out, it is often better to fix than to cut off what we had. His example is a shoestring that gets tangled in a knot. It is better to go through the effort to undo the tangled knot than cut off the knot and have a part of a shoestring that no longer functions as intended. Nehemiah fron the Bible is a great model of how to restore what has been broken in a systematic stepwise fashion. Chapters 1-6 in the Bible describe how he went about restoring the broken down wall of Jerusalem against great odds. To do so required, as one of our pastors pointed out in a recent sermon on the Fruit of the Spirit, great self-control in order not to get sidetracked or stopped cold by opposition.

The author uses the book of Nehemiah directly to show how to rebuild - whether it be a wall, a relationship, a career, or a life. Nehemiah models how to get started right with an honest evaluation, determining the need, taking responsibility, and getting out of the comfort zone. Then, he shows how to build a team and get it going on the right track. Then he demonstrates delegating and persevering through opposition to completion.

A lot of the opposition comes from conflict, often internal. He itemized four steps of conflict resolution Nehemiah used that can be helpful. They are as follows: (1) back off; (2) stand up; (3) give in; and (4) reach out. Read the book to get descriptions and details.

Overall, this is a very good read. Even if it does not immediately have application in your life, at some point it can for you or someone you know. I recommend it.

The book of Nehemiah is a popular book to draw from when applying principles from the Bible in regard to leadership, etc. This book does a nice job of pulling out some of those principles in short, easy chapters to read with simply defined applications to ponder. A bonus is in the back that he provides the entire book of Nehemiah in the New King James Version. He uses a lot of sports analogies which is fine by me since I am a huge sports fan. There may be a stretch or two in regard to taking the scripture and relating it to the principle he shares in several of the chapters. But, overall, this would be a good book for small groups and could be used as a launching pad for rebuilding something in your life and in the life of others. As he states again and again: "It's never too late for a new beginning." How true.

Good content about leadership based off of Nehemiah. It’s not to be used as a commentary, but mostly for inspirational teaching. The extensive outline and sub-points can make for a great conference seminar comprised of six lessons. I was particularly fond of the chapters over conflict resolution. That alone is worth the book. There were sports references in almost every chapter, which does great to reach a niche audience, but is not always the most universal illustration; especially if it is repeatedly used. Overall I appreciate the perspective of Nehemiah and enjoy the story of how he built the walls of Jerusalem.

I received a complimentary copy.

So of course the book is all about a biblical figure Nehemiah which is strictly faith based and then the author adds in a lot of rebuilding of thoughts to help the reader process. I feel like the book is going to be a huge hit among certain readers who will connect with the teaching of this faith based book. I feel like I would recommend this to older readers as they might really want to take part in the beliefs as well as use the guidance.

Amazing book! Practically a verse-by-verse exposition of the biblical book of Nehemiah, it is loaded with practical insight and encouragement. I suspect this is a book I will read again (and again) when I need to remind myself that "it's never too late for a new beginning!"
