After years of struggle and bloodshed, Marak is finally king. But his rise to power has only just begun.
In the far south, amongst the mountains and snow, Iradan, the youngest Saint in the history of the Ascendancy, vows to take Marak's head and burn his kingdom to the ground.
The coming war threatens to undo everything Marak has worked so hard to achieve.
Marak will need to consolidate his power, put an end to a bloody rebellion, and forge new alliances with distant empires.
But with enemies closing in from all sides, Marak finds himself in the middle of an entirely different war.
I find myself on repeat gushing over this series. For a dark fantasy junkie like me this is the perfect fix.
Marak continues his quest for power. With his shaper abilities, magic sword and unrelenting quest for power.
In this one he meets his match. A god blessed saint with uncanny powers of his own. Iradan is just as confident and badass as Marak. Seeing the build up and eventual clash of these two armies is absolutely spectacular.
The ending leaves one aghast! Lots of action, twists and turns. The unexpected full dial.
Quite a bit lower quality than the first two books. The story isn't complete either, it's a rush to nothing. But the real problem is how entire sequences seem like an earlier draft of the book didn't get totally rewritten. Characters and weapons change names back and forth, people die twice in the same scene. It's just a rushed mess, and he can do better.
Book 3 had errors throughout, but was overall a fun read. The plot and characters have developed well over time in book 3. Some of the characters are predictable and repetitive in parts. The plot is also somewhat predictable, but overall interesting. I look forward to book 4.
