Raine Harper is in love with Wade Gates. But Wade likes women who are model thin, and Raine is model thin plus a lot of pounds. Desperate to make him love her, she trains just a little too hard and passes out in the arms of superstar movie star Dirk Adams. Dirk thinks Raine’s junk in the trunk is perfect and proposes to make Wade jealous by becoming her pretend boyfriend. Pretend soon seems very real. Is Dirk a great actor, or is something really developing between Raine and the movie star?
Wish Upon A Stud...A happy ending is just a coin toss away.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
Man Candy is Raine and Dirk's story. Raine has been desperately trying to get Wade Gates attention since middle school. Instead she gets the attention of a famous actor who has women swooning and men admitting to their man crushes.
I loved it! It was silly humor and an adorable story. The heroine is quirky. Her family is quirky and I had a lot of laugh out loud moments. This was a really fun but short book.
I also listened to the audiobook and the narrator gets 5 stars. She has the perfect voice for a romantic comedy.
I loved Raine! She was so quirky and cute and when she was in a pickle she reacted in the most delightful ways. She’s been in love with a boy from school all her life but he doesn’t even know her name. When the handsome actor Dirk Adams steps in to play the pretend boyfriend, all kinds of chaos ensues.
Raine’s family was a riot and I loved how the jumped Dirk. There were so many fun scenes here but I don’t want to spoil them for you. You definitely need to read this one to enjoy all the humor that I’m learning is a true talent of this author.
Wow another hold my sides great read some brilliant one liners love this character wasn't stick thin and went to crazy extremes to lose weight in a week so funny.
Suffice to say, she finds a guy that finds her beautiful didn't like the confession of love at the end as they only knew each other a few days but other than that great!
A couple of weeks ago I read Going Down which is the first book in the Wish Upon A Stud series and thought it was quite funny so I thought I'd give the second book a shot.
This book did not disappoint. I was easily reminded of the sarcastic and over the top humour that I liked so much in the first book. I'm talking about the shake your head almost ridiculous humour that is so far fetched that you can't help but smile. Seriously, Sax has such a crazy imagination that I would almost love the opportunity to sit and have drinks with her. I don't imagine there would be a dull moment!
If you want an extremely entertaining, easy to read series about people with dysfunctional relationship issues with a little bit of hot and steamy then I think this may be the perfect series. I can pretty much guarantee that it will put a smile on your face more than once. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Oh my! Dirk and Raine Hot Hot Hot!!! This was another uick, fun, sexy story.
Raine feels that she has to be skinny in time for the love of her life's visit, only she bumps into Dirk whilst in Training! Dirk just happens to be a super hot movie star.
He agrees to help her in her plan to make Wade jealous. What she doesn't have a clue about is that Dirk is falling for her.
She gets a date with Wade, even though Dirk tries to convince her not to go, she goes to lunch, only for Wade to show his true colours. Phew! Dirk was her very own bear to her rescue, after all he very successfully fought a bear and won!
Raine and Dirk go back to the cabin, and spend a very hot sexy afternoon together. She finally gets her man, not the high school love, but the super sexy hot movie star man.
Raine is totally clueless to the attraction - between her and Dirk. Great fun, with some hilarious funny moments.
This is the second book in the Wish Upon A Stud series. Let me start by saying, I think everyone secretly wants their very own Dirk. Raine has been in love with a boy since grade school, but this has never once noticed her. Mainly because this guy has a particular type of girl he prefers and she is not it. So, she takes it upon herself to "train." While training she happens to run/fall into Dirk.
From there the story becomes a lovely sort of romance and hilarity. Dirk cares and adores Raine for who she is and doesn't ask her to change who she is. I think in the end that's all everyone ever wants, someone to love us for who we are.
This is a book I definitely think everyone will enjoy!
Short. I mean, really, really short, and I insta-love out the wazoo! But, ok, given the length, the insta-love was forgivable.
Irrational behavior seems prevalent in this series, as does unsafe sex.
I identify with the h, as I suspect a lot of us do, and appreciate the effort of the author to bring the 'invisible fat girl' syndrome to light. I just wish that this story were longer, so that it could be more flushed out and well-rounded (pun not intended).

Parts of this book made me laugh out loud. I did enjoy the story.
The one part was how quickly the book ended. It was building nicely and bam it was done. And at the very end it was filled with steamy scenes. While the scenes were okay, they were just put at the end and didn't seem to fit the rest of the book. That did disappoint me a bit.
However, if you are looking for a quick read, that is funny and sweet. This is it.
Raine and Dirk are adorable. Rains has spent her whole life pining over Wade. When she hears he's coming to town she wants to transform herself into his dream girl. Enter Dirk a Hollywood superstar on vacation. When Dirk rescues Raine they spark a friendship. Dirk hatches a plan to make Wade jealous. Raine is left with choices to make. Is Wade really the one she wants? Loved It
Want a good escape after a long days work? Want a laugh out loud look into some fun loving romance? You will get it in this sexy fun novella! Man Candy is book number 2 in the wish upon a stud series and it is a great read witty sexy and fun you will fall in love with this book! :)
“You look like someone shot your puppy,” Dirk says. “I was in training,” I say, my voice cracking with emotion. “Take it from me, training is not supposed to make you pass out or starve to death.” He has kind eyes. They’re not just pretty. There’s something behind them. Intelligence. Caring. My head drops onto the table. “The sun’s going to come up soon,” I cry. “That means I’m down to five days. I can never become Keira Knightley in five days.” “Keira Knightley?” “She’s skinny. And I’m—I’m—fat!” I break down in sobs, and my nose drips on the table. Dirk hands me a napkin. “Okay. Enough of this. You’re not fat,” he growls. “Yes I am. I’m way fatter than Keira Knightley. I’m way fatter than you!” “I’m six-foot-four and two-hundred-twenty pounds. I think you have a ways to go before you’re as big as I am." -Dirk & Raine
“Nobody’s perfect.” I blow my nose on a napkin. “You’re not supposed to say that. Don’t you know anything? You’re supposed to tell me that I’m perfect. Come on, make me feel better.” He rolls his eyes. “My father used to be in the car business,” he says. “I know.” I know pretty much everything about Dirk Adams. Who doesn’t? He was voted Sexiest Man Alive five years in a row. He’s H.O.T. “Okay,” he continues. “Well, my dad used to tell me that there’s an ‘ass for every seat.’ In other words, no matter even if it’s a purple car with orange interior, somebody out there is going to want that car. You may not be perfect—and nobody’s perfect—but there’s an ass out there for you. I guarantee it.” -Dirk & Raine
“Muffin!” It’s not an exaggeration to say the air molecules in the room warp and twist into something totally different, proving the theory of an alternate universes. If I turned into bubble gum, my family wouldn’t be as surprised as they are by our guest. “Muffin?” my mother asks. “Who’s muffin?” I have no idea who Muffin is, but movie star superstar Dirk Adams seems to know, because he’s standing on the threshold, and he shouted it with absolute certainty—if I’m not mistaken—right at me. He’s blindingly handsome in the daylight, tall, built, and dressed in worn jeans and a tight t-shirt. He’s clean-shaven, but his hair is slightly too long. Thick blond hair that’s been blown off target by a windy day. Big brown eyes that are focused entirely on me. I stumble back a step, and he catches me in his arms, embracing me, as if I’m his long lost lover. Lennon is the first one to snap out of our communal shock. “Holy shit! It’s—It’s—It’s—” he waves at Dirk and hops up and down. “A man!” Moonbeam finishes for him, clapping her hands. -Dirk & Raine, & Raine's mom, brother, & sisters
“Having fun yet?” I ask Dirk, yelling to be heard over the noise of the party. He grunts in response. Three of my brothers and my father are wrestling him at the same time. They’ve pushed aside the living room furniture, and they waylaid him the second we walked through the door. I can barely see him in the middle of the pile of bodies. I only catch glimpses of an arm or leg, but mostly it’s my family trying to murder him. “Maybe you should attack him one at a time,” I suggest. “Storm! Storm! Storm!” the party guests shout, cheering on Dirk as they surround the melee in the living room. It’s most likely the last thing Dirk will ever hear because he’s not long for this world. At the very least, he’s going to have one hell of a concussion. I tried to nix the whole wrestling idea when we arrived, but nobody paid attention to me. Not my father. Not my brothers. Not Dirk. They went after each other like rams, but in this case, one ram against four. I’m thinking about calling the cops on my own family, and trying to remember the quickest route to the emergency room, when my oldest brother Gandhi flies up in the air, flipping once and landing—fortunately for him—on the couch, which is shoved up against the wall. For a moment, I get a clear view of Dirk. He roars in triumph, flexing his muscles before his remaining attackers go back for the kill. “Holy shitballs,” I say. “I hope they don’t break the coffee table,” my mother says behind me. “It was my grandmother’s.” “What about Dirk? Aren’t you worried they’re going to break him?” “Well—” she begins, but stops when my brother Lennon flies out from the center of the room to land two inches away from the coffee table. Dirk roars again, much to the delight of the cheering crowd. It’s down to Dirk against my father and my brother Harmony. My father’s strong as an ox, but he’s in his seventies. My brother Harmony, however, is a beast. He’s a former UFC fighter, and he keeps in shape. “It looks like your boyfriend is doing fine,” my mother says. -Raine & her mother
“Listen,” he says. “The bass? I know. It’s making my chest hurt.” “No, listen. It’s coming from next door.” I try to tune out the hard rock pounding and the general noise level of the party guests. Sure enough, there’s something more. “Jazz!” “Duke Ellington,” Dirk says and takes me in his arms. “I hope you like to dance.” I love to dance. Not the shake my hips and pretend I’m a robot kind of dancing. This dancing, in the arms of a beautiful man who’s in complete control, who leads, effortlessly. “Dancing on the beach,” I comment. I give myself a little pinch to make sure I’m not dreaming. “Under the stars,” Dirk adds. I look up. It’s a gorgeous night. Magical. I rest my head on his chest and let him dance me on the sand. “Maybe Wade will dance with you like this,” he says. “Who?” I mumble. -Dirk & Raine
"do you think it’s safe to go back to shore?” “I think so.” He puts his hands on my shoulders and pulls me, as he does the backstroke. It’s not a bad way to travel. When we make it to land, however, we realize the party may be over, but the bear has decided to stay. My brothers have it cornered, but there’s a lot of yelling going on, and I don’t see how this is going to end without somebody getting hurt. There’s no way past the bear, but I figure I have a good shot at the house, if I go around the other side. Unfortunately, the wind is blowing from behind me, and even though I can’t smell it, anymore, whatever the chemists put in the special sauce is making the bear really angry. It claws at the ground and charges right at me. I crouch down on the ground and cover my head with my hands. But Dirk doesn’t crouch or hide or run away. He charges the bear, like a locomotive express train. He hits the bear in its side, sending it into a barrel roll and making the bear supremely pissed. It rights itself and rounds back on Dirk. I don’t know who’s growling louder, Dirk or the bear. Dirk leaps onto it and wraps his arms around the bear’s neck, holding on for dear life. In other words, he gives it a bear hug. But I don’t know how long he can hold on. The bear is growling and snapping his teeth and trying to claw Dirk. “Can a guy get a little help, here?” Dirk calls out. “Oh, sorry,” I say and walk toward him. “Not you! You stay there. I meant your brothers. Help me out!” he shouts. -Raine, Dirk, & the bear
This was a quick read. I liked it for its entertainment purposes. It made me laugh out loud a few times. You have to accept this book for what it is in order to enjoy it. Raine got on my nerves a bit with her insistence on having a guy that didn't know she existed and showed every sign of being a jerk, especially with an obviously great guy right in front of her face. Dirk was great, not many men would wrestle your menfolk and then a bear for you. It was all-in-all a cute book.
The title says it all, this book is quirky and adorkable. Raine is 23 and has spent her entire life in love with Wade, the successful boy next door that never noticed her. He's coming back into town and Raine is desperate to get him to fall in love with her. Since Wade prefers model thin women, Raine is determined to lose weight and become the woman of his dreams.
While running one night, she meets Dirk Adams, a hot movie star renting a cabin near her, and together they devise a plan. Dirk will pretend to be her boyfriend, and Wade will be overcome with jealousy. And if that doesn't work, she has plenty of back up plans too!
This book was laugh out loud funny! The pop culture references and ridiculous scenarios kept a smile on my face. Raine's inner dialogue reminds me a lot of Mindy Kaling's biography and writing style. Since we never get a single detail about Raine's physical appearance (not even her hair color!), I just pictured her as Mindy.
The only criticism I have is that I wish the book was longer! I wish we could have seen it from Dirk's point of view too. The entire book is spent in Raine's rambling, quirky mind, and she doesn't have a high opinion of herself. Outside of her adorkableness, we never really see why Dirk falls for her. Is he just as quirky inside? I'd love to have a peek into his mind.
I'm putting this author on my to read list. The narrator was great, her character's voices weren't too over the top. I love a narrator that makes you forget that you're listening to a book, and her narration pulled me right into the story. This book was gifted to me from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Raine is on a mission and is "in training". Wade, the man she has been in love with for years, is back in town. Wade likes his women skinny and Raine is more full-figured, so she is determined to lose weight to get him to notice her. When she passes out while running, she is rescued by a man that she recognizes as Dirk Adams, the mega movie star. He concocts a plan to make Wade jealous by posing as her boyfriend and the fun begins.
Man Candy is Book 2 in the Five Wishes series and is a standalone. This was such a fun listen and I found myself laughing more than once. The bear scene was hilarious! I also liked that there was an important message in the story. If a man doesn't love you the way you are, he isn't worth your time. Never change to please someone else because there will always be someone who already thinks you're perfect. The narrator did a great job with pacing and character voices. I would recommend Man Candy.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.
Raine Harper wants to get Wade Gates attention. She has been in love with him for a long time. The problem is he dates model thin women and Raine is a little bigger than that. Raine is trying to lose wait for Wade’s homecoming. She runs into Dirk Adams. He proposes that they pretend to date to make Wade jealous. Dirk thinks Raine is perfect as she is. Will Raine see that same thing in herself?
In an Oyster Shell – A steamy romance that had a great storyline.
The Pearls – The whole storyline was cute and well-done. I liked that Raine is going after one man and another even better man is interested in her. He’s right under her nose. She doesn’t get it. Dirk is relentless in showing Raine how beautiful she is. Just the way she is.
Dirk was my favorite character. He was an actor but was really down to earth. He was a great hero. Raine was a clueless heroine it could be frustrating at times but made for an interesting story.
Raine Harper has been in love with Wade gates since preschool but he doesn't seem to know she exists. Raine is determined to change that by changing herself so she's physically appealing to him. While running around the lake she meets Dirk Adams a movie star.
Dirk offers to help Raine and hilarity ensures. Raine's thought processes are amusing but the situations she gets herself in... OMG!
Need a good laugh? This book is perfect.
This book picks up about the same time book one left off but the characters from book one don't appear so you can listen to this book as a standalone.
Angie's narration is great it's got a really nice flow to it and her delivery made the funny parts even funnier. The character voices are well done and believable.
This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
This is the second novella in the Wish Upon A Stud series. Although it follows the same formula as the previous book and takes place in the same setting, I found this one to be funnier although the heroines seem to have the same traits. In any case, I liked the exchanges between our hero and heroine, even more so when you throw her super nutty family in the mix.
I wish though, as in the first book, our heroine showed more of a higher IQ since her original choice of love interest was pure scum but I think the hero really made up for it. And it got super steamy right at the end of the book which was a surprise given the light-hearted feel to the story. But a much more enjoyable romance than the previous story....even if they seem to fall in love in like 48 hours.
Such an easy read!!! Funny and relatable. I admit I dont understand Raines (let's be honest and call it an obsession) with Wade... come on, when they first met, he bit her and then all those years later after going to the same school, being in the same classes and even being lab partners, he still doesn't know her name??? What, How... Why...??? I just don't undersand how this obsession began... As everyone mentions right from the beginning of the book, even in the previous book, Wade is a JERK!!! Dirk on the otherhand... 😍 I have no words. I need someone in my life (though maybe not a movie star) who loves me for me and the little extra of me 😂 I do believe however that it seemed a bit fast how instantaneously she got over her Wade obsession and jumped into Dirks bed...
Man Candy is another hilarious book from Elise Sax. Raine has been in love with Wade since they were kids but he doesn’t even know she exists. He’s coming home in 3 weeks and since he likes thin women – which she’s not – she starts training to lose 30 pounds by then. She over-does her training and faints. Lucky for her, Dirk was there to catch her. Oh yeah, Dirk is a gorgeous movie star who was vacationing in town.
Raine had low self-esteem. She loved a man she didn’t really know well but had built him into the man of her dreams in her mind. Meanwhile, Dirk actually likes her for who she is but she doesn’t see it.
Take 1 girl who is unsatisfied with her size and give her 5 days to be svelte and attractive for the one she thinks she wants. Throw in unrealistic expectations and extreme exercise, and what do you get? A collapsed girl who was lucky enough to pass out at the feet of a concerned man. A concerned buff man. A concerned buff man who carried her to his rental cabin and... OK if your mind is going there, you are just going to have to read this fun book yourself! It's a real mix of sweet, funny, and sexy with a family who would scare off all but the bravest of men! What are you waiting for? Go for it. Would Elsie Sax let you down??
Short and fluffy, I normally like long books with deep plots, but sometimes it's nice to just read something sugary and fun. This story does touch on a few deep subjects like self-esteem, bodytype etc.
Its full of funny moments, cheesy "scenes" and "one liners", and so many more things that really bring a quirky personality to the whole story.
Its worth a read if only for the Marilyn Monroe walk.
I received this book for free in return for my unbiased review
Man Candy (Five Wishes #2) was a good read by Elise Sax.Raine Harper is in love with Wade Gates. Wade likes women who are model thin which leads Raine to train a little too hard. She ends up passing out in the arms of movie star Dirk Adams. Dirk likes Raine the way she is and proposes to become her pretend boyfriend to make Wade jealous. I absolutely loved reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
I have the collection of Wish Upon A Stud 1-2 together
3.5 stars I laughed a lot. I was in the mood for a funny book and this book made me LOL. My only problems were Raine failing to convince me of her true love towards Dirk (passion, yes! attraction yes! She definitely wanted him but Love? meh, I don't know...) and the ending. I had the same problem with the first one. The HFN endings are not satisfactory to me. What happens next Elise Sax??? Do they make it while he is somewhere else filming a movie? Is she ok with him having to kiss other women? Questions, questions.....
This was an annoying POV. The romance didn't feel realistic. I only read it because I sometimes feel good about myself when I finish a book. Even if it is a short story that wasn't very good. But my number of books I read a year is high. This was a ridiculous story that was funny for all the wrong reasons.
Mostly enjoyable. Raine finally learns to accept herself through Adam's acceptance. She also learns that someone who doesn't accept her for who she is isn't worth her time. The sex scene, on the other hand, wasn't particularly interesting.
A quick, easy to read romance comedy. The heroine has been infatuated by the boy next door sine she started school. He doesn’t know her name. The hero is a very famous movie star, who’s instantly drawn to her. Put these together and the results will have you laughing....especially the incident with the bear!
