Sebastian Grenville, the duke of Sindalton, known as Sin to the ton, has had his fair share of scandal. His father's involvement in what became referred to as "The Scandal of the Century" plunged him into the spotlight at the tender age of 12, and he's been there ever since. Egged on by his best friend, Beau - the marquis of Beaumont - his life is one of dissipation and ease. But every duke needs an heir, and everyone knows Sindalton is on the market for a wife.
Both men, bored to death by balls and matchmaking mamas, go to a friend's hunting lodge in Cornwall. But caught in a storm, Sindalton heads for cover. Seeking shelter in a cave, the duke is delighted when he stumbles upon Miss Georgiana Bomford, the niece of the local doctor. But the feisty, redheaded beauty is unimpressed by his attempt to entice her. Sindalton, however, is captivated and intent on seduction and makes her the target of his all-too-tempting charms.
But Georgiana is not who he thinks she is, and when they meet again in London, the scandalous past is in danger of repeating itself.

DNF 69%. What the hell was the author thinking (and drinking), ruining a potentially wonderful story by having the heroine responding and participating too enthusiastically in racy crotch grinding, boob-squeezing make-out sessions with the hero's best friend. Yes, sessions! Not one, but two of these which is one too many to be called an aberration of a confused mind. The writing was quite excellent with very authentic language until the author threw in this crazy loop. I cannot possibly continue after such disturbing scenes. I know, from reading the next book (great read), that the best friend ended up kidnapping her in order to compromise her thereby estranging himself from both of them, but given the green light she had been giving him, who can blame him pushing his luck. Not my idea of romance, but the quality of the writing saved it from my usual highly-offensive-content one star rating. Yuck!
Georgiana, when orphaned, went to live with her beloved Uncle Joseph, a physician, & Aunt Jane. She later learned about her background. The ton called her beautiful mother "the Siren" & mother engaged in scandal w/ a duke, while a married lady.
Sebastion, a duke, wanted a woman to want him for himself and not his title or bank account. His best friend Charles known as "Beau" (a marquis) needed to wed a heiress to relieve his debts. They went on a jaunt to the country. Seb fell for a sweet but curvy Georgiana, who knew her own mind. He posed as "Beau." He fell for her, but regretted her inferior social status. Georgie's family convinced Alex (an earl) + his wife to introduce her to London society. Rumors spread: was Georgie wild like her mother?
I think 3 men, with combined good qualities, in this story, would have made 1 good hero. 1) Seb intelligent & witty, but sincere? 2) Beau an attentive Adonis, but focused on his funds. 3) shy Percy who genuinely admired Georgie.
Normally, I love this author. She has a lot of 5 stars books for me. I didn’t like the plot or the hero at all in this book. Falling in love with a hero that lies to you, sexually assaults you and says cruel things to you, is irresponsible storytelling in my opinion. Excusing men’s bad behavior is not okay. I’ll skip the next book too. I’m waiting for Lord Nibly’s book. I want him to find passionate love with a beautiful women. He deserves it.
Series: Rogues & Gentlemen #3 Publication Date: May 17, 2017
Intricate, exciting romance. Well developed characters and a fast paced story line that is full of twists and turns make this a good read. This is my first book by Emma Leech and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I met the characters from the second book in the series and it just makes me want to read that one now.
This is the story of two people whose parents were steeped in scandal. One knows about it, but the other does not.
Sebastian Grenville, Duke of Sindalton, lost his father at the age of twelve. His father was involved in a duel over a married woman and the woman’s husband was killed. His father and the woman were fleeing England when the boat sank and both of them drowned. Sebastian has lived with the scandal since he was twelve and he’s tried every day since then to live so that his family gets out from under the scandal.
Miss Georgiana Bomford never knew either of her parents because both died when she was just a baby. She grew up in a very loving home with her aunt and uncle and had no idea of the scandal surrounding her parent’s deaths. She thought she was just a simple niece of the local doctor.
Sebastian is so disillusioned with all of the females he meets because none of them see him, they are only interested in his title and his money. So, when he meets a lovely young woman while he is visiting a friend’s estate, he pretends to be someone else. Needless to say – the attraction turns to love, but he knows he cannot marry a commoner, so he leaves her there.
Shortly after Sebastian leaves, Georgiana gets a visit from a greedy, controlling, hateful uncle that she didn’t even know she had. He informs her that he is her legal guardian and that he will be back to pick her up and she will be marrying. Luckily her aunt and uncle knew the details of her parents wills and they told her she was an heiress and that her other uncle just wants her to marry someone he can control so he can have her inheritance.
Imagine how surprised Sebastian is when he sees her in London – and EVERYBODY knows she is the daughter of the woman at the center of his father’s scandal. Sebastian is shocked – the woman he loves is the daughter of the SIREN. How can that be!
There are many other characters in the book – good and bad – and they all do their very best to either help or hinder Sebastian and Georgiana. Beau, The Marquis of Beaumont is Sebastian’s best friend. Beau has a despicable father and that has shaped him into a sort of twisted fellow. He’s one character you’ll have a love/hate relationship with. Hang loose, the next book is about him and I’m looking forward to seeing his redemption.
I won’t cover the rest of the plot, but I hope you will give the book a try and enjoy it as much as I did!
I enjoyed the first few chapters, where they met almost daily in the countryside, getting to know each other and falling in love. I did have a problem with him not stopping immediately when she said no to his kisses.
He hides his true identity from her because he doesn't expect that anything serious will happen after a day or two. Plus, he's tired of women wanting him only for his title (a duke) and money, so he lies that he is the Marquess of Beaumont (who is his best friend). They both knew that he could never marry her because she was the niece of a doctor. When it is time for the hero to return to London and fulfill his duty by looking for a bride, the male narrator does a great job portraying the emotional farewell. Such angst! 😭😭😭💔💔💔 I like that she didn't give up her virginity like some heroines would have at this heartbreaking farewell. She was realistic in that she knew she must remain chaste for her future husband (whomever he may be).
They don't spend a lot of time together after this farewell because it's revealed that she is the causing a huge scandal. DUN DUN DUN! So the book's title is apt.
His best friend, the real Marquess of Beaumont (aka "Beau"), needs to marry an heiress and has decided that the heroine will be the one he will marry to stay out of debtor's prison. The story kind of became more about her, her foray into the ton, and her friendship with Beau (although he was also wooing/courting her). I felt like I saw little of the hero in the middle chapters or maybe my memory is just foggry.
Warning: The heroine kisses the hero's best friend. Based on other reviews, she did more than kiss him.
This "love triangle" reminded me of Lord St. Vincent, Lillian, and Westcliff from Lisa Kleypas's It Happened One Autumn, including the .
The love scene between the H/h occurs in At that point, I stopped paying attention to the audiobook, so I couldn't rate the steam level. 😅
Each chapter is titled so the reader has an idea of what's going to occur.
HOW DO I SAY THIS? A POOR EXECUTION OF HISTORICAL ROMANCE THAT SKIMS THE SURFACE. IM RATING IT MOSTLY FOR THE EFFORT AND THE HEROINE BEING A GOOD SPORT.
HERO was a kid. Despite his Ducal status, he doesn't act or form rational opinions like a man his age and with his kind of responsibility. When he goes off to the countryside he meets our heroine whom he begins a whirlwind romance of kisses, light petting and just plain ol' love. That's until he has to return to London because their worlds were never meant to meet. From young, his father had caused a scandal by killing a woman's husband, running away with her and then drowned in a capsized ship. Sebastian has always blamed his father for abandoning their family and his mother. Until he falls for our redhead heroine and the truth comes out that she's HER daughter...will he still love her? MY reason for claiming he's a kid was because of the way he dealt with the fact that the woman he fell in love with is the daughter of the woman who wrecked his family.
HEROINE was beautiful, innocent and a breath of fresh air who of course falls in love with the Duke who masquerades as his rakish best friend the Marquess. When Sebastian leaves, she's heartbroken but later receives news that she's actually rich and will have a season in London! Imagine her surprise to meet the real Marquess who is quite handsome and charming AND he wants to marry her! At least he was up front that he's desperate for money. Who knew that the Marquess is best friends with the man who tricked her and will she forgive him? What about the fact that she's the daughter of the woman who ruined his family?
OVERALL it may have been a good story except it lacked depth and the romance was breezy if I can even call it that! Didn't even made me remember much of the story and the CHARACTERS don't linger in your mind after.
I love this author and have to say even so I almost did not finish this book. Honestly, I almost did not get past the first several chapters. The hero Sebatian is very immature in the beginning. This is a little annoying but what made me want to not finish was what I would consider his assaults - yes several - of the heroine. In the beginning when he first meets Georgiana, he grabs her and does not let her go until he kisses her. It is not kiss me and I will let you go which is borderline - it is grab her and force a kiss on her. This is not OK in my mind. Later, when they decide to meet again, they are basically making out and she asks him to stop several times and he did not. He does not rape her; however, he does stop when she asks him to. To me this was assault. I was actually surprised, as I have not seen this in any stories this author writes, and I have read more than half of her books. For readers where assault or rape is a trigger, I would imagine this could be a problem.
Some other reviewers have written about how the h kisses (and more) a secondary character several times. This is after the H has clearly stated he cannot marry her. To me their relationship was over. It is unusual for these stories that a female lead is sexually attracted to someone other than the Hero, but it was not cheating to me.
The reason I gave it 3 stars (instead of 1 or 2) was everything after the initial breakup of the couple did redeem the book in my eyes. There was a lot of action with several different people, from both their families, who do not want them together.
Emma Leech is one of the best authors of Regency Romance that I have read. Her characters are well rounded and interesting. There is continuity with the books that makes them that much more interesting. The romance is adult but far more realistic than so many books in the genre. 18+
I got past the hero assaulting the heroine when they first meet. Their getting to know each other and the reality of their situation kept me going until the villainous uncle showed up at the 30% mark.
Well, she was exactly like her mother. I could not like her after she let Beau grope her and such. I have never read a book where the heroine was such a strumpet. Lol Well, in this time period. I will read Beau's book though as I liked him.
Scandal's Daughter is the third book in the Rouges and Gentlemen series. This is Georgiana and Sebastian's story.
Sebastian (Sin) was a bit introduced in Alex's book (previous one), but this story takes a different turn. Usually you kind of need to read Emma V Leech's books in order to kind of understand everyone's story, but there really wasn't much back story on Sebastian, so you could easily read this one out of order.
I didn't like the storyline in this one. Sebastian is a Duke and is at his country estate, he stumbles upon Georgiana on his land and instantly kisses her. I didn't like how they met and I didn't like how Sebastian proceeds his relationship with Georgiana . He introduces himself as his best friend Beau and starts a fling with Georgiana, everything BUT sex.
SIGH. I found Sebastian just purely selfish and a coward. Georgiana understands "Beau" would never marry her, but she continues to see him daily and have fun. Of course both parties catch feelings and that is when Sebastian must exit and return to London.
Sebastian did Georgiana dirty and even though she knew he would never marry her, he should have left her alone. He struggles with his feelings while he is in London. Georgiana goes to London, now she inherits money and finally mets the REAL Beau.
It's kind of like a love triangle now, as Sebastian, Beau and a 3rd Person pursues her. I actually liked the real Beau, even though he didn't love her. I was fine with the love triangle, but I was still bitter about Sebastian.
A bunch of over-the-top stuff happens towards the end and I was just over the storyline at that point. I do not like Sebastian and I don't think he redeemed himself. I can't believe Beau is the next book, even though I liked him better than Sebastian, I still think Beau hasn't redeemed himself for his actions in this book and I am not looking forward the next book in the series.

Well, the truth of Georgiana's parantage and what actually happened way back then is finally revealed to her by a relative who wants her money?
She is sent off to London and all kinds of craziness takes place-----
I found myself with wide eyes at some points and laughing at others. Romeo and Juliet? You will have to read to find out how it all culminates!! Scandal's Daughter
Will the mistakes of their parents keep our FMC & MMC from finding true love?
The FMC in this book finds herself in the position to inherit a lot of money. Of course, her uncle doesn't want her to have it and tries to marry her off to like... her second cousin or something gross. Enter MMC: tall, dark, mysterious, and lies about who he is b/c he's a duke and he wants to make sure FMC falls in love with the real him. She does, and when she finds out his real identity, everyone finds out that these two have more obstacles than just a greedy uncle before they can get together.
What I liked: Classic historic romance! I loved the author's attention to historic details, especially the descriptions of their dress.
Why only 4 stars:
Who would Like this book: Fans of classic, regency-era, historic romance.
Comp titles: I don't read a ton of historic romance. That said, this book was good enough that I read the next one in the series, so I can say that if you like the others in this series, this one matches that. It is kind of like bodice-ripper pride and prejudice with a lot more action.
So, even though I figured out everything by the 25% mark on this book, I still enjoyed it. Even if it did remind me of one of my favorite Lisa Kleypas books -- or rather, the book that leads into my favorite. Or maybe because of that? It made me want to go back and read all the Wallflowers books, anyway. I actually had planned on reading book 4 in this series first because I saw a review on GR that claimed my interest, but then I also saw that the hero in book 4 was the villain of book 3, and I decided I had to meet him as the antihero first. It was a good call because I also really liked the main couple in book 3. I liked the case of mistaken/stolen identity, how the scandal fell about them, and what it all meant for their relationship. But I also can't wait to see what happens to Beau...the real one. :)
Sebastian Grenville, Duke of Sindalton and Charles Stafford, Marquis of Beaumont are best friends with a long history. Their friendship is put in jeporady when Sebastian encounters the country doctor's niece, Georgiana Bomford.
What starts off as a fairly straight forward story line in this standalone novel, is changed by a number of plot twists and turns. It is those same unexpected surprises that make Scandal's Daughter by Emma V. Leech so engaging, entertaining and less predictable. At times I both liked and disliked each of the lead characters, but I always stayed enmeshed in their story. Ms. Leech's writing was descriptive (with a few steamy intimate scenes) and well paced as it marched towards a HEA.
My only real disappointment with this otherwise entertaining read was the author's use of religious expletives. Considering the many other period swear words to choose from, why insult readers who are of the Christian faith?
As an avid reader, surprisingly this was a new find for me.
If you love the precise wording an author can use to describe any given situation transporting you to the exact place the characters share their story, then this author and book are for you! I fell in love with the characters and the roller coaster ride of emotions. From the kitchen squirrel scene (laughing hysterically), to life-long friends parting, the energy of the storyline was consuming. Mostly though, I loved how I could NOT predict what would happen next!!!
I started this late one afternoon, and looked up at 3:13 am! Seriously! Although I didn’t finish it then, I realized I needed to slow down to make it last longer...truly wanting the story to continue.
There are a few typos, but not so distracting to take away from the story, otherwise, a perfect, pleasant surprise.
Another well written book , and engaging plot. Sebastian the Duke of Sindalton, played the heroine Georgina false in the beginning, claiming the identity of his 'best friend ' Beau Beaumont, when he first meets her. The story is full of angst and mis doings, with the Dower Duchess being ill done to by he r late husband who had an affair and subsequent scandal with the mother of Georgina (unknown to her) but she was tainted by it. Georgina had a guardian uncle who was not unlike a pantomime villain, and a nasty piece of work to boot, happily he got his comeuppance. On meeting Georgina Beau became enamoured by her and her money which he needed badly, Beau and Sebastian fall out over the same, Sebastian finally stands up to his mother, who by this time is well on the way to insanity, the plot becomes very entertaining, we once again meet the Earl of Falmouth and Celeste his wife from Book 2. All in all I would say the book is well worth a read and would thoroughly recommend it.
Loved the book and characters. Sebastian is still bothered from the scandal his father committed almost 20 yrs ago. When he goes to the country with Bo he meets a beautiful young woman Georgiana Bomford but tells her he is Bo instead of a Duke. They fall in love but know nothing can come of it. She finds out her true identity from a cruel uncle who only wants her fortune. When she goes to London for her come out she meets the real Bo and is devastated she was lied to. When she comes face to face with the fake Bo she finds out not only is he a Duke but he is the son of the man who killed her father and her mother ran off with when the died. Can these 2 find common ground before the real Bo steps in. A wonderful story with a great ending.
After reading and enjoying the witty dialogue in the first two books in the series, plus the feisty characters of the heroines, I was completely disappointed in this story. Perhaps it was because I had taken a dislike to Sebastian in book two, or maybe because the story was quite boring. The idea of a wicked uncle has been done in many stories, but I couldn't help wonder why he left it so late. He could easily have disposed of the problem in many different ways during Georgiana's eighteen years.
The wit, humour and interesting dialogue were definitely missing in this story and the hero was an anti climax for me.
This could have been so much better if the characters were more consistant and more likeable.
Their first meeting in the cave almost had me giving up. It reminded me a little of the scene where the h and h first meet in "Venetia" by Georgette Heyer (which i adored, so carried on reading) but GH saves it with the character developing a resectful relationship. There seems to be a lot of mixed messages between the duke and georgiana- her saying no, him carrying on anyway, but its ok cos really she wants him to. Don't say no if you mean yes!
And do not even get me started on her and his bestfriend! Beyond the pale!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was another fun book in the Rogues & Gentlemen series. Sure it's a bit unrealistic, a bit formulaic, and a touch melodramatic, but it's still a nice historical romance with a happy ending, and provides several hours of escapism. I've read these in order so far, and do recommend that since characters from the previous books play important roles, but this could probably be read as a standalone with nearly as much enjoyment.
I really enjoyed this story. A great one! Especially the second male character who the heroine also felt something for cos she was attractive to him - very believable and real! Great ending too and not too much physical nonsense until the very end; he kept her pure till they married, a nod to the proper behaviour of that time. Loved that! Will definitely be reading Beau’s story next!
I read the first book and enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but both the second and the third have disappointed me.
This kind of story where men fight over a woman and the woman makes the man earn her affection again after some perceived slight, is just not for me.
Also, I can’t stomach this kind of desperate love (obsession) where a man doesn’t care how many lives he ruins so that he can be with the woman he loves.
Audible So much better than number two which I didn't enjoy at all but Falmouth the Earl from book 1 and 2 plays a supporting role as well as Celeste. Although this was kind of angsty it was enough of a romance at the beginning and at the end to make up for the angsty middle. Happy ending and all the bad guys get what they deserve. The narrator is great Philip Batley. He does a very good job with the male voices.
This is another good book by Emma! Two people meet fall in love believing each is someone else. The hero realizing that Georgie is not from a good enough family leaves. Circumstances are not what the couple believe. They find out that their parents had a history with a scandal. I really enjoyed the characters in this series. I can't wait to read Beau' s story.
I love historical regency Romance's. This was a great book. Anyone can read this book as the adult scenes are very well written and are mild in comparison to other books. The author has a great grasp of the era and it flows nicely throughout. I look forward to reading more of her books.
A nice racy read, the touch of sex before marriage a stirring of the senses, the introduction of the uncle kept me on my toes. I thoroughly enjoyed this story I hope to find the previous books and then read Beau,s story.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys an historical read, they are easy reading don't need a lot of imagination
Ms leech hasn't missed yet. Her characters are always great The Earl and Celeste have graced every story so far. Their own story was terrific! and they g were good,as were the main protagonists,in this one. The plot also won star billing Her works are just enjoyable reading.
