Liked this much less than the first two in the series. The added love interest story line really took me out, especially with Kent being such a clingy unlikeable character. But maybe that was the point.

After You, the third book in Rylie Dark’s Hailey Rock FBI series, aims for high-stakes suspense- a young profiler returns to her hometown, tensions flare with her sister (the local sheriff), and a serial killer starts targeting victims in storm shelters. On paper, it's a solid procedural setup. The pacing is quick, bordering on relentless, and the book keeps the pages turning. I’ll admit the central mystery has enough twists to hold attention, and the interplay between the sisters adds a layer of emotional complexity that elevates it above the usual formula. But I have questions. About depth. The killer’s motives — when they’re revealed — don’t quite land. They’re serviceable, sure, but there’s a sense that the author rushed through the “why” to get to the “what next.” If you’re someone who reads crime fiction for psychological plausibility or drawn antagonists, this might feel a little thin. Also, as the third book in the series, it leans on backstory that new readers won’t have. It’s not impossible to follow, but you’ll miss some of the stakes if you jump in here. It’s a fast, entertaining thriller. If you’re looking for depth or nuance, you might be left wanting. If all you want is a weekend page-turner with a competent lead and a decent twist or two, After You does the job.

I am hooked on this series. The characters are well defined and have distinct personalities. The conflict between this sister, Alice and Haley add some dept to the plot. Hailey's integration back into the small town she grew up in is a painful journey for her, mostly painful memories but a connection with her high school boyfriend and discovery she might have feelings for her FBI partner. The personal issues mesh well with the murder plot. Once you start on this series, hard not to keep going.

Ok, I am starting to get super frustrated with the editing of these books. While I get that a typo here or there slips through, there seems to be more and more happening in each book as I get into the series. A new editor, or taking more time between releases, something. I am not going to be able to keep reading if this continues.
That being said, the story about the tornado killer was interesting. As I predicted earlier, the conflict between Hailey and her sister is starting to get old. Between the bickering, and crappy editing, I think am out as soon as I find out what happened to Mindy.

Hailey returns home to see an old beau AND investigate her sister’s disappearance from years ago. Unfortunately there are new murders involving the tornadoes in the area. The killer is active during the storms and is hard to apprehend. Hailey is uncomfortable staying with her old boyfriend and sharing her partner’s room has warm feeling awakening? Getting reassigned to her hometown area may bring lots of drama.

Why did this one feel so rushed? Also wth was with the motive being explained even LESS than the last books, which I didn't think was possible.
Quite annoyed, what happened?
The one thing I did like was less Hailey, Alice banter. Nearly killed the book but than god they didn't further that story line for this book.

When I was a little girl I wanted to become a tornado chaser (and at one point a magician and baby announcer). Later on I developed an interest in learning about serial killers (not in the creepy way).

This book had so much potential to make me happy.

I really enjoy the Hailey Rock Mystery series. The way that we have a case to solve, while also navigating her own mysteries in her life is so fun, interesting, and captivating. I will continue to read through the series as I NEED to know what happened to her sister.
