Hey neighbour! I’m a lifelong fan of stories where everyone gets their happily-ever-after and have been a voracious reader of everything romance since I was tall enough to reach my mom’s bookshelf. I write small town romance with plenty of heart, humour and a dash of heat. Sometimes with a dash of magic, mystery or suspense.
C. J. Hunt has written a series of books set in Rivers End. Although there are different names for each series, the characters are shared throughout the stories. Most of the characters do not share today's typical stupid formula of not communicating when there's trouble or imagined trouble; instead are likable and realistic. All the books are well written, fast paced, interesting and have humor. Some of the books are clean; some have cursing or vulgar language; and/ have sex. Personally, I don't think the sex and vulgar language actually fit in with the sweetness and love that these romances share. I think the sexual tension is more important than what technique so-and-so used; plus written sex is boring. These are quickly read books and are perfect for a couple hours of relaxation.
The MacAllisters Series: Silver Bells #1 - Heartwarming and fun, and a magical Christmas time frame. A well written, funny, interesting small town romance. There's plenty of sexual tension, but the story is clean and fast paced. The characters are interesting, realistic and didn't do stupid dialog or actions. This should be an entertaining small town series. 4*
Tipsy #2 - Picks up the same week as Silver Bells ends, on New Year's eve. Well written and interesting with humor and set at a fast pace, along with likable characters. I didn't care that there was a lack of communication instead of a different form of creating a problem between the main characters. I didn't care for the sex and bad language and think clean works better for this story. That aside I like the story and with the addition of Oona, how The MacAllisters is connected to A Touch of Magic. 4*
Reindeer Games #3 - This cover is too cute. This book starts on Christmas day, where Silver Bells ended. Well written and interesting with the truth about a bad brother from another book. The pace is fast and the characters are believable and there's a dark side to some of them. I didn't care for the vulgar language, but the storylines are good. 4*
Wedding Bells #4 - This book picks up in May and adds to the story of the main characters from Silver Bells. Well written, likable characters and a fast pace make this a quick read. There's a little bit of suspense concerning one character, but it adds to the other storylines. I didn't care for the vulgar language; find it out of place. 4*
The Witches of River Bend Series: Merry #1 - We're still in Rivers End, but now there's a touch of magic in this story. This is a well written, funny and heartwarming romance set in a small town. The characters were interesting and had realistic dialog. The cousins are a lot of fun and give good gifts. I didn't care for the infrequent vulgar language, that started with mild cussing; it felt out of place in this type of story. Same with the explicit sex; it was awkward and boring, as is all written sex to me, boorrring. Sexual tension is so much more interesting. I did enjoy the magical potion and think it was a good mix of romance with witches. Since this is my third book by this author and first of the "touch of magic", I hope there's more. 4*
Oona #2 - Another well written romance concerning a witch, with a bakery, and an architect. Interesting and fast pace with likable characters, and lots of happenings. 4*
Oona has opened a bakery in Rivers End and she’s very popular. One of the reasons? The little magic spells she casts upon each creation. The customers who enjoy her products don’t know and won’t likely be hurt, so why not? I could practically taste each item as she prepared it. I’m not much of a baker (read: not at all), but I can appreciate savory treats.
Sam has been visiting Oona’s bakery just about every morning for months now. He’s an architect who works from his beautiful home and he likes biking into town. For the treats and the company. He’s been observing Oona from afar, waiting for his chance to ask her out. He does and she turns him down.
That night, though, they wind up at the same social event and when Oona perceives she has a rival for Sam’s affection, she steps up and marks Sam as hers. Their courtship moves at lightning speed from that point, their passions leading them to Sam’s bedroom very quickly. Sounds great except Oona hasn’t mentioned she’s a special person.
Before they get too close, Oona pulls back, afraid of the rejection she’s sure is coming. Sam’s hurt and confused until she returns with news that will bind them together. She also drops the little bombshell about her special powers. Sam’s confused and I don’t blame him. Not sure I’d trust someone who kept something so big from me. Not sure I’d want to hitch myself to a witch either.
As friends rally around the couple, they come to realize maybe they are meant to be together. This is a CJ Hunt romance, so I was guaranteed my happy ending.
Erin Bateman is a new-to-me narrator and I enjoyed her performance. I’m glad to see she does the next witch book in the series and I’m excited about it. I just have to mention the striking cover. Wow, talk about popping colors. Anyway, another great short book by CJ Hunt.
Love can be an enexpected gift, and it can have unexpected consequences .
Oona has always found herself more than a bit of an outsider.
Growing up as a witch with a single mom, she had an even tougher go with an hideous excuse for a father appearing only to spread rumors, anger and mistrust in her wake.
I was happy to receive a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am happy to shar my review.
Oona's love and romance with Sam, who's a bit of a Sceptic, but may have Gifts of his own, seem to break all her rules - one's she made to keep lovers at arm's length, to keep her from feeling hurt and rejected, and to protect others from possible fallout if her magical energies get off balance.
Is it worth breaking all the rules to embrace a chance at love and so much more?
Check out this magical story of love and magic, and the challenges of romance.
First, let me say that I received an advice copy of this book via Booksprout to leave an honest review. Second, I only leave a truthful review of my reading.
So, with that said, this was my first time reading this author & it won't be my last.
I loved this story. It was sweet & just mushy enough. Oona had a tough life growing up because she always had to hide that she was a witch. To protect herself she had rules for relationships, or lack of. Sam was sweet and so gun shy because of a past relationship that it took a while for them to hook up. I look forward to many more stories from Ms. Hunt. I recommend this read, most definitely. 5 Thumbs up
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This was a fun, cute, fast romantic read. I loved this book. It was written so that every word flowed perfectly and built a picture for the reader. Sam and Oona are such a cute couple. They both are attracted to each other but are worried what the other person thought so neither did anything about it until one surprising day.
Oona Walsh is a bakery owner and witch. Sam Walker is a handsome architect. The attraction has been simmering for a few months before they decide to do something about it. Will Oona trust Sam with the truth about herself and will he believe her and stick with her? This is a quick read and very good story. I look forward to the next one from CJ. This story has many secrets, fear and a lack of honesty that lead to many problems. Lots of twists and turns in a well written story. I highly recommend and will definitely read more in the series by this author.
I would have k med the book more of the details of the characters where a little more information n the story or their passion was detailed being more specific and a little bit of emphasis on the intimacy between the two characters, the ending was a little disappointing that it just was a rush to the end no dramatic outburst of love and happiness it just ended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. When sexy architect Sam Walker throws Oona's carefully constructed world into chaos, she's faced with a choice that will change her life forever. A great paranormal romance by CJ Hunt. I recommend it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced and sexy read. The characters had me laughing out loud at times with their cute comebacks and inner thoughts. Especially loved the way Oona explains her magic...well done!
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.
A great romantic read but it just felt a bit unfinished at the end. A divorced man and a baker with a little extra come together. However what would be his reaction if he knew that she had magic running in her veins and possibly her children too. When she finds out she is pregnant, she has to bite the bullet and tell him. Does he reject her or does he love her enough to accept all of her? I received a copy for a honest review
