Slapping Leather was a very hot short read. I was able to read it one night before bed. It definitely lent itself to some interesting dreams. I really enjoyed it and was anxious to read the 3rd installment in the Rawhide series.
Liz, is a very strong and independent woman that runs her own business. She doesn’t get a break very often at all. Alex, is a hot cowboy that is not looking for a partner. Sparks fly from the moment the two meet. They try to fight the attraction especially Liz who feels she can’t get involved with anyone because of her past. Is she able to overcome her past? You will have to read to find out.
The sex in this novella is certainly not for the faint of heart. It is definitely hot and not your typical vanilla sex. Both Liz and Alex enjoy the BDSM lifestyle. It is a huge part of the novella but there is also a strong relationship that is developed between Alex and Liz. There relationship isn’t centered around the sex they have at Rawhide. I definitely want to read more from this author.

Based on the audio book I did not like this narrator. It was a struggle listening to this even though audio was only 3 hours long. Sex scenes were good but that was about it. Not sure if I can listen to the other ones that I have in this series because of the narrator. I might have to read the book instead.

Wonderful story of a woman proving herself in a man's world. Being a woman boss is hard, but harder when it's in a world where men usually were the ones who took orders from other men. Having a secret way of live was harder to stay hidden.

Desiree Holt has done it again!! She wrote another hot story with an amazing Dom. Ms. Holt stories make you want to grab the closest cowboy, run out to your nearest club and have a bit of fun! YEEHAW!!
Slapping Leather is great short story in the Cowboy Kink line, a collection of stories by various authors. Elizabeth is tired of working hard and being sexually frustrated. She is unsure how to have a fulfilling sex life in her small community. She’s been hurt before and she has no desire to be hurt again. Alex might just be the man to help fix her little problem. He is a man that knows what he wants and it is Elizabeth, in his bed.
Elizabeth “Liz” Gillibrand has spent the last year trying to prove to everyone in her community that she deserves Lucky L Ranch. Unknown to her, the owner willed the property to her a year ago and has been fighting to make a name for herself ever since. She is now known for her determination and work ethic. Liz has not had time or the desire to have a personal life. Her sexual preferences would be a bit too shocking for her rather conservative clientele. She has too much to lose and a past that she has no wish to relive. That is until the day Alex drove into her ranch. The only thing she can think of is “Oh my hot Texas lord”.
Alex Wright is all cowboy, from his loose-hipped gait to his thick as sorghum drawl. He is way too much temptation for Liz and she knows her limits. With a little help from her friends, she finds that she can venture into her old lifestyle at the club Rawhide. Unfortunately, Alex is also a member of Rawhide and he sees this as an opportunity to get close to Liz.
The chemistry between these two is instantaneous. Liz is very protective of her life and fears Alex will cause too many problems. It doesn’t take long for Alex to work his way into Liz’s heart. This is purely a love story. There are no villains within the story, only emotions to work through. I cheered for these two from the beginning all the way to the end.
Slapping Leather is wonderful story of how Liz is able to work through her past hurts and move on. Ms. Holt does not disappoint with steamy scenes and great story telling. She is consistently a favorite author of mine. From the first page to the last, nothing gets between me and my Desiree Holt books.

This is the second installment of the Rawhide series. I am not sure why this book is considered part of the Cowboy Kink series, when it clearly belongs to Rawhide.
This should be considered a novella, with 1900 locations. It contains: BDSM, D/s relationship, toys, flogging and mild caning.
Again Ms. Holt gets right to the point with her characters and we not left wanting at all. Alex quickly and unexpectedly fills the need Liz has buried deep due to her new found ownership of a cutting horse/barrel racing training facility.
Because this is a novella it does move really fast and we do not dwell to much on the problems Liz has had in the past in previous D/s relationship.
This is a quick read and a great edition to the Rawhide series. Sounds like this hidden but secret club is becoming more of a norm for our stressed out ranchers and their mates.
I give this four stars for overall story and content. And four stars for heat level.

4.5 out of 5. Another erotic, riveting, and intense love story from Desiree Holt. This story contains many of the signature ingredients of many of Holt's works--a gorgeous, sex-on-a-stick hero, elements of BDSM, a woman who needs to find a way to balance her life between her professional and personal life, and a sense throughout that this love relationship is built on caring, affection, respect, and authentic desire to bring one another the best that loving can bring. Holt also deals with some of the after-effects of a BDSM relationship gone bad--a Dom who is not a basically good person and one who uses the Sub for his or her own perverted ends rather than a safe, sane, consensual relationship. A very good read that certainly demonstrates again Ms Holt's considerable talent and writing experience and one that erotic romance fans will find compelling.

I really loved the developing love of Liz and Alex. And while the story wasn't that long I appreciated the mention of a few months going by between the initial contact and him pushing her a bit more to find out the truth of what was upsetting her and holding her back. I loved how much Alex respected Liz as a person completely outside of their bedroom relationship.

This series is not bad I enjoy it so far. It's no literary masterpiece but I enjoy Holt's work so I would still recommend it.
