If you are new to the ADHD diagnosis this book is very helpful with tips and support on navigating life as an adult with ADHD. The therapist in me appreciated the science facts behind ADHD and it was not very jargony so it was easy to follow.

So this was an interesting read for me. As someone who has adhd I thought some points were validating for sure. But I do wish the author went more in depth an about all of the topics. Why do meditations work? How to actually do them and give more information about what to do when thinks go wrong.

This book like many books when it comes to ADHD, give a lot of great examples of ways that you can overcome the mental load of dealing with your ADHD. Some of the suggestions are good. Some of them might not even apply to you. I feel like this book does focus a lot on being atypical in a typical kind of work setting, though it does make mention of neurospicy people generally working in more creative fields. I don't like the use of the term superpower when it comes to ADHD. I can understand it's supposed to be empowering and uplifting to not feel so negative a connection with your disorder. Overall, it's a fine book. It has a lot of good information and definitely a good resource for better ways to organize yourself

I didn’t particularly learn anything new. Many of the methods I had tried before such as using a planner, they simply don’t work for me. I found the first chapter describing a day in the life of a person with ADHD incredibly spot on, the author nailed that. Although I was unable to take much from this personally, I think for someone with less severe ADHD or friends and family of those with ADHD would get a lot more out of this! In true ADHD fashion I listened to this on audiobook (at 1.75x) but did find it sometimes to fade into background noise so I may reread again on paper.

I felt like this book was like “Have ADHD? Just be more organized! Write lists! Meal prep! Go for walks every morning! Meditate!” I can’t describe how unhelpful this advice was for a person who struggles with routines to begin with. Interesting insight into how an ADHD brain works differently and the inherent strengths that are often overlooked. Also liked the info on relationships between NT and ADHD partners.

This is a great resource for anyone new to a diagnosis or for someone working in community spaces who has to work closely with individuals.
It will help you get to know your people better.
For those of us who have been here for a while, this is an entry level book and you can jump around to the chapters you need at the time.
Otherwise, thorough text reading.

непогано, без води, я б сказала що книга достойна і доступна якщо вперше заглиблюєшся в цю тему
але якщо тема не нова, багато ідей та пояснень будуть не цікавими

сподобався розділ про coping mechanisms - було цікаво дізнатися, що більшість з них я використовую несвідомо в своєму житті

П.С. такий діагноз у мене не діагностований, але книжка повністю описує моє життя та стани

I enjoyed the book. A lot of background information about ADHD. Not so much teaching or techniques to manage with ADHD.

I thought this was pretty good, would def recommend to late dx adhd adult to learn more about their adhd brain.

I will allow that some statements and quotes in this book are very validating and worth writing down, but the vast majority of the words here were the same words over and over. That nearly put me to sleep.

I didn't find much in this book to be practically actionable. Notably, the book used terms without defining them, such as Boredom Blackout, so it’s hard to come into the book knowing nothing and realize which tips are for you. And on the flipside, as a person who's already done my research, I didn't find much in this book that wasn't already tucked away in another book, usually a book I liked better. The book advises you, as a method for managing your ADHD, to maybe get a new job, as if dropping your job and picking another up was realistic for most people struggling to hold down a job with ADHD. When the book actually, seriously recommended as a method for managing hyperfocus to "take breaks" I was so flabbergasted I had to run to my friends so we could laugh about it. Literally, "If you don't want to hyperfocus, just don't! 😀" Amazing.

I'm sure the author meant....something else. Surely they meant something less hilarious. But I couldn't tell you what the real tip or trick was supposed to be from this book. They literally said take breaks. That was it. What am I supposed to do with that???

The book also clearly targets office jobs. I don’t think any of the tips in this book were for field workers, cashiers, entertainers, or sales persons. Unless the advice was to quit your office job and go entertain people, but I don’t think that counts.

So. I don’t recommend this book. Most of the *actionable* advice was stuff like "use a planner" with no explanation or example for how to use a planner as a person with adhd who will immediately forget they have a planner. "Meditate" like meditation is just something you sit down and dive into, no directions, no instructions.

I almost didn't finish this book simply because I didn't care to pick it up again. Reading this did not make me a better person.
