Rate this book
Meet Cindy Mayfield, ex-Forest Recon Special Operations marine. She is a correctional officer at California Medical Facility assigned to the hospital team. She’s beautiful and professional, but because she was kidnapped by a serial rapist when she was a girl, she now makes her own rules. As the murders occur, indicators point to Cindy Mayfield, but the real plot has its roots in a shadowy, top secret CIA-funded project called MK-Ultra.

Dr. Yi, a prominent CMF psychologist, finds the “recipes” in her father’s journal for a deadly poison - a virus - and a vaccine developed by Project MK-Ultra, the CIA project at CMF in the early 1970s.

The Russians want the poison and the coronavirus vaccine. The Chinese want the deadly coronavirus. Officer Mayfield is caught in the middle of a battle between the most secretive organizations that operate without any accountability. So begins the terrifying game....

WOWed by this fast-paced, action-packed, powerful read. It immediately hits hard in a riveting prologue with fierce female protagonist on a mission against a very bad man in Afghanistan. Then you’re taken to a psychiatric hospital in northern California...the Tenderloin district of San Francisco with its ties to sex and crime... Unconventional, well-developed characters keep you fascinated and amazed as the author writes well and with in-depth knowledge of military special ops and much more. In the last quarter of the book, enter familiar world leaders. It’s a clever and terrifying work of fiction, like a combination of “Dexter” and “24” that will have you hoping over and over that it’s all really just fiction. Not for the faint of heart. I was lucky to be gifted a Kindle copy.

Exciting spy thriller

The first half of this book is a very interesting story about ex marine, Cindy, and her vigilante justice of sorts. I found the character of Renee, the detective investigating some murders, particularly interesting.
Cindy is a believable character, and the descriptions of her covert operations are excellent.
The second half of this book veers into political spy thriller territory. Also very interesting, but slightly disappointing that the complexities of Cindy’s actions and motivations are swept under the carpet, even though there is a resolution of sorts.
While the characters, intrigue and action are all excellent, I found the dialogue a bit stilted. The novel could have done with another round of proofreading also.
I am interested in checking out more of the author’s books.

Very Exciting

Cindy Mayfield is a tough ex-Marine turned correctional officer. No stranger to violence, he secret activities come to the attention of foreign agencies seeking to use her for their own gain. This book was exciting and suspenseful with a timely subplot that I won’t spoil for you. Well-written and tightly edited, this is one spy thriller you don’t want to miss!
