Guy is one of my favorite characters in the Sometimes Never series. He’s the one who makes you laugh when you’re sad and hold you when you fall. But even though we get to see pieces of him in each book of the series, we’ve never gotten Guy’s story until now.
This book was nothing and everything that I expected. What do I mean? Well, I knew Guy’s story would be amazing. He’s got this incredible presence you can’t ignore. But I never imagined the depth of emotions I would feel. I bawled so much while reading Let It Be that it would be easier to count the pages I didn’t cry.
The story is told in alternating points of view between Guy and his boyfriend Ian. I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel that does alternating pov so well. You just sink into the voices of Guy and Ian. I felt surrounded by the emotion of each character, like I was a little part of them in their head as they told their story. I can’t even choose which of them I loved more. Guy seems so put together and sure of himself, but the desperation he feels just gutted me. Ian, . . . oh God, Ian. It was almost painful to hear the thoughts inside his head. The way he loved Guy, how he blamed himself for everything. It killed me to see how much he was dying inside.
This book, oh this book! I want to gift everyone I know a copy and stand over them to make sure they read it. It’s absolutely perfect. A spectacular story of strength, loss, and love. It may be my favorite book this year.
“I think you stole a piece of my heart within those first few seconds. You took it and never gave it back. But that’s okay. I don’t want it back. It’s yours to keep.”
