Dagfrid n'a aucune envie de préparer le banquet des chefs. C'est peut-être un honneur, mais c'est aussi très injuste. Parce que chez les Vikings, les filles doivent cuisiner le poisson qui pue, pendant que les garçons se préparent à leur avenir de guerriers ou de navigateurs. Et le frère de Dagfrid, lui, a plutôt l'air de se préparer à ne rien faire du tout. En attendant, ce banquet ne va pas se faire tout seul...

Una storia sicuramente femminista, con una vena umoristica di sottofondo.
Mia figlia di quasi 6 anni l'ha apprezzata, indignandosi quando venivano descritte le mansioni di Dagfrid e quando venivano descritte le "non mansioni" del fratello.
Un buono spunto per riflettere con bambine e bambini di quali sono i ruoli, esistono? È giusto?
Il finale è un voler rompere le tradizioni ma un po' sottovoce, non la chiamerei una vera rivolta come nel titolo italiano.

In this, the second title in a funny but insightful chapter book for young readers, Dagfrid, a young Viking girl, challenges the patriarchy. Once her brother, Odalrik, turns sixteen, he's given the accouterments of manhood and expected to begin training to become a warrior as is expected of Viking men. But he just seems bored and listless and to do noting more than hang out in his boat. Dagfrid, on the other hand, is expected to prepare an elaborate banquet for the chieftain. The youngsters have heard stories about how their parents met and what their expectations for their offspring are, but as it turns out, there is more to those stories than has been revealed in the past. Savvy Dagfrid teaches her brother about some helpful household chores, and both of their lives are widened just a bit. Charmingly perceptive illustrations and engaging text, suitable for the book's young audience, make this a book and series to share with others. The humorous aspects of the tale that describe certain behaviors that seem to make sense but are traditional elevate the plot in interesting ways that might have readers questioning some of their own cultural traditions. Even though it was originally published in French, the humor and situations are quite relatable for readers from other countries. And perhaps this is how a revolution starts--with one or two bold and daring acts that go against the expectations of others.
